Rico, 31, was reportedly knifed in the neck outside a bar in Altrincham, Manchester just after 3am, with a 17-year-old seriously hurt in what cops called a “senseless attack.”
Two men, one aged 20 and the other 21, have since been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Tributes have now been paid to Rico who had trained with Fury as a young man, before becoming a roofer. In more recent years, he’d been selling cars, friends said.
Calling for an end to knife crime, two-time heavyweight world champ Fury said: “My cousin was murdered last night, stabbed in the neck.
“This is becoming ridiculous – idiots carry knives. This needs to stop.”

The 34-year-old called on the Government to “bring back higher sentencing for knife crime”, adding: “It’s a pandemic.
“You don’t know how hard it is until it’s one of your own.
“Life is very precious and it can be taken away very quick. Enjoy every moment.
“RIP Rico Burton – may the lord God grant you a good place in heaven, see you soon.”

Steve Egan, Rico and Fury’s former coach, said he was “devastated” to hear of the tragedy.
The 60-year-old, a coach at Jimmy Egan Boxing Academy in Manchester, said Rico had won two national titles fighting as a junior at the gym, and boxed at the gym until he was 19.
He left the gym to look for a career in roofing and building work.
Steve told The Sun: “I taught Rico, he’s a lovely lad. I’m devastated.
“I feel like crying. I’ve known him and his brother since he was 13. What a talent, he was fantastic.
“He was always a grafter, he worked hard and he worked so hard in the ring too.
Rico’s mum will be devastated – it’ll finish her off… He was close with Tyson, they were best of matesSteve Egan
“He was a fantastic fella, I used to call him our Billy Joe Saunders because he was such a good fighter.”
He said there “wasn’t a bad bone” in Rico.
“I could never see him getting in trouble with anyone, or starting trouble, he wasn’t that type of lad,” he said.
    “I’m absolutely devastated. It’s a coward’s game.
“If you carry a knife you should get five years for just having it in your pocket, it’s just daft.
“His mam is going to be devastated, it’s going to finish her off.
“He was always smiling, he knows his boxing is bang on. He loves his mum and his brother and his cousin.”
Superintendent Ben Ewart of Greater Manchester Police said that the two suspects remained in custody and that the families of both victims were receiving support.
Describing the crime he said “this was a senseless attack” and confirmed that it had claimed the life of Rico Burton.
He added that the younger victim was in a “serious but not life-threatening” condition is hospital.
He could not confirm whether any weapons had been recovered or if the victims were known to the attackers, but described the attack as seemingly “spontaneous and unplanned.”
He was also unable to confirm where exactly the attack occurred, but did say that it was at a venue in Goose Green and that the two men had been stabbed outside the pub.
    TYSON’S GRIEF
Cops rushed to the scene of the slaying in Goose Green in the early hours of this morning after reports two men had been knifed.
Rico was taken to hospital but tragically died a short time later.
A 17-year-old man remains in hospital with serious injuries.
No further information has yet been given, although police have confirmed a murder probe has been launched.
Steve said today that Rico “had always admired” Fury.
“Tyson was a hero to him and he wanted to be like him,” he said.
“He was close with Tyson and they would spar together and were best of mates.”
    ‘HIS MUM WILL BE DEVASTATED’
Family friend Eddie Nevins said: “Funny guy and a decent boxer, one we looked up to as kids.”
Bar workers who saw the tragedy unfold have been left “shocked and shaken”, and Michael Edwards, who lives close by, told The Sun: “It’s really shocking when something like this happens.
“It’s terrible so many people carry knives these days.”
Rico’s death comes amid a wave of knife and gun violence across the UK, much of it focused in London.

Two-time world heavyweight champion Fury wrote the emotional post just hours after vowing to come out of retirement and take on Oleksandr Usyk in a blockbuster world title fight.
The Ukrainian put on a masterclass to beat Anthony Joshua and defend his belts last night in Saudi Arabia.
Usyk, 35, claimed it was either retirement or the Gypsy King next for him.

This morning Fury, 34, confirmed he is open to stepping back into the ring to win back his heavyweight titles.
He said in a now-deleted Instagram post: “I’ve just seen Joshua lose for the second time to Usyk – out of his depth.
“However, England has been relieved of its belts. Yet again, as usual.
“There is a remedy and a solution that I can suggest. If you want those belts back then send in the Gypsy barbarian of England. Come on!
“Send me in. I will relieve the Ukrainian dosser of his belts like I did the last Ukrainian dosser

Giggs is on trial accused of assaulting his former partner, as well as three years of controlling and coercive behaviour towards her.
The 48-year-old, who has admitted to being a “love cheat” and being unfaithful to every woman he has been with, denies all charges.
Manchester Crown Court previously heard Kate accuse Giggs of cheating on her with 12 women during their relationship – while promising he wanted to start a family with her.
And today jurors were told Kate wrote the former ex-Wales manager a letter titled “The Final Goodbye” when she planned to break things off, which included details of several of the alleged affairs.

She began the note: “I know pretty much everything you have been doing with other women behind my back since the day I met you.
“My gut has always told me you couldn’t be trusted, that you’re a compulsive liar and a serial cheat.
“I always knew deep down but didn’t believe it, I wanted to believe things you told me and I really loved you.
“[But] you say the same things to me as to multiple women. I am not special.”

She went on to accuse ex-Manchester United star Giggs of sleeping with a woman named Steph, married to a cricketer.
“I knew all about her,” Kate wrote. “She’s married, but you knew that.
“You were having sex on tour with her in Washington.”
Kate also mentioned another woman named Helen whom he was “in a full on, proper relationship with” while he was sleeping with her.
She then pointed to Zara, whom he was allegedly with for a year before that, as well as Natalie, Susie and Kelly.
And Kate accused the former player of sending messages about sex and threesomes to a woman named Charlotte from Hotel Football.
Finally, she said: “Let’s not forget about [redacted] who gives me a smug smile every time I see her and now I know why, you were shagging her for ages.”
    ‘FLIRT BY NATURE’
Previously, moments after he began giving evidence, Chris Daw QC, defending, asked Giggs: “You’re known in news articles as a love cheat. Is that reputation justified?”
The ex-player – who confirmed he’s a “flirt by nature” – replied: “Yes.”
The barrister said: “In the course of your relationship with women, have you managed to be faithful to any of them?”
    The footballer said: “No.”
He was then asked if he’d ever “lied” to his ex wife Stacey Giggs and other partners, and replied: “I have, yes… many times.”

Ryan Giggs sent ex-girlfriend Kate Greville a cringe-worthy poem about her name – and admitted he was a ‘pest’ to her

RYAN Giggs sent his ex-girlfriend a cringe-worthy poem praising her legs and vivaciousness, a court heard today. The former Manchester United footballer spelled out Kate Greville’s name with corresponding adjectives in a gushing New Year’s Eve message in 2017.

It referenced the letter G was for “gorgeous”, R was for “radiant”, E was for “extraordinary” and V was for “vivacious”.
“Idolised” followed for I, before a double “legs” for L and E meant she was “everything I’ve ever wanted”.
The former Wales manager, 48, is on trial accused of assaulting Kate, 38, as well as controlling and coercive behaviour towards her over a three-year period.
    He denies all charges.

Manchester Crown Court heard an hour and a half of other messages between the couple, which included one in which Giggs referred to his former partner as “the jam in my doughnut”.
He also told Kate she was “the salt in my tequila” and “the truffle in my pasta”.
It follows a string of flirty exchanges read out to the jury yesterday, including an X-rated poem Giggs sent Kate saying she makes him “as hard as a totem pole”.
It also included lines that he was “infatuated” with his “sunshine” and “one and only”.
    Most read in The Sun
Kate later sent the former football star a poem, which included the line “everyday you do me proud, because you’re well endowed”.
This then prompted Giggs to pen a raunchy response, which said “you make me feel funny down there…when you look up and stare”.
The court this morning heard that in February 2020, Giggs messaged Kate saying: “Waking up to no message. Is everything okay, Kate? I’m worried.”
He then messaged Katie Harvey, who his then-partner was with, and was told Kate had broken her phone.
He thanked Ms Harvey for being “kind” to him, and then admitted: “I know I can be a pest.”
She replied: “You are, but you love her.”
    ‘I KNOW I CAN BE A PEST’
Jurors were also told how Giggs left Kate feeling like a w***e when he abandoned her at dinner.
She said the sportsman was “beyond cruel” for leaving her at the table of a restaurant while he arranged medical care for his injured daughter.
In messages between the couple after an argument at LPM in London, read out in court, Kate blasts Giggs’ behaviour as “incredibly hurtful”.
She described it as “upsetting” to be left alone in the venue, adding that it made her feel like a “w***e”.
Kate said: “You asked me outright if I was ruining your LPM experience. I said ‘yes, a little’,” before adding she understood Giggs’ daughter was the “priority”.
“That was me being 100 per cent honest,” she added.
“I felt so apart from your real life. You just sat on your phone and I felt like you didn’t care how I felt.”
Giggs replied: “You can twist it all you like. I went outside to call the club doctor, that was it.”

Manchester Crown Court heard how Giggs, 48, sent Ms Greville a number of messages, saying he was “infatuated” as he described her as “my sunshine” and “my one and only”.
She later sent the former football star a poem, which included the line “everyday you do me proud, because you’re well endowed”.
The court heard how this then prompted Giggs to pen an X-rated poem in response, which included the line “you make me feel funny down there…when you look up and stare”.
Giggs – who denies all charges he faces – also wrote about “those pictures you sent so I can keep tabs on you” in the piece, jurors were told.
    More on Ryan Giggs
It comes after the court heard how Giggs used his teenage daughter as leverage to try to stop his ex-girlfriend’s sister dialling 999 during a drunken row.
Giggs is accused of headbutting then-partner Ms Greville before threatening to do the same to her younger sibling Emma at his home in Greater Manchester.
As Giggs returned to the witness box for a second day of cross-examination, Manchester Crown Court was told Emma called police after the argument on November 1, 2020, turned violent.
Giggs allegedly placed his hands on Ms Greville’s shoulders and headbutted her in the lip “with lots of force” before yelling at Emma: “I’ll headbutt you next.”
    Most read in The Sun
Prosecutor Peter Wright QC told jurors he had tried to use “emotional blackmail” to stop Emma going into detail to the cops, which he denied.
Ms Greville can be heard saying to her then-boyfriend in the background of the call: “I don’t care if your daughter is 17, I don’t care about your daughter.”
Mr Wright asked Giggs, 48, whether he was “seeking to dissuade” Emma from reporting the incident further, to which he replied: “Yes.”
Mr Wright added: “And you were seeking to use your daughter as the lever, weren’t you?”
    The ex-Wales manager responded: “Yes.”
Giggs was arrested on suspicion of assaulting Ms Greville, 38, following the incident at his home in Worsley, but today he denied the attack after “completely losing his self-control”.
Mr Wright quizzed him about the prepared statement he gave to police the day after the incident, in which he said a “scuffle” broke out over Ms Greville’s phone, and that his head clashed with hers accidentally.
Mr Wright said: “The reality is you headbutted her, didn’t you?”, to which Giggs replied: “No.”
The prosecutor then said: “Because in this dispute with her, you had, by that stage, completely lost your self control.”
    The former footballer repeated: “No.”
He also denied threatening to headbutt Ms Greville’s youngster sister Emma in a drunken rage.
Giggs told the court he “didn’t know” why he had put in his police statement: “On both occasions I was attacked.”
And he agreed with Mr Wright that it was “an important assertion to be making”.

Giggs also denied intending to harm Ms Greville “emotionally or physically”, insisting that was “the last thing I would ever want to do”.
