Ryan Giggs jury retired to consider verdicts after being told ‘this is not a court of morals’

Giggs, 48, is accused of assaulting Kate Greville, 38, in a drunken row when she found out he slept with up to 12 women behind her back.
The attack is alleged to have occurred at his £1.7million home in Worsley, Gtr Manchester, in November 2020.
Giggs is said to have assaulted Kate’s sister Emma, 26, at the same time.
The former Wales player and manager is also accused of having exerted a coercive control over PR executive Kate’s life for more than three years.

She told police he rang her up to 50 times in an hour during one of many dodgy spells during their relationship, the court heard.
She said that when she blocked Giggs on her phone and social media, he would ring her from his son and daughter’s phones and from unknown numbers.
Summing up yesterday, Judge Manley asked: “Was this, as the defence suggest, a relationship which had its ups and downs — albeit with many more ups than downs — which ultimately veered off the rails only because of the complainant’s inability to accept Ryan Giggs’ serial womanising?
“And has Kate Greville exacted her revenge for that womanising by twisting and exaggerating their routine arguments to a portrait of control, violence and abuse?

“Or was the relationship much darker and sinister in which a man exacted and exploited his power over a vulnerable woman — and when he realised that power was not working, he lost his self-control and physically attacked his partner and her sister?
“The defence have pointed out to you, Ryan Giggs is not on trial for being unfaithful in his relationships.”
She added: “This is not a court of morals.”

Benjamin Mendy grabbed woman between her legs and asked ‘why are you angry?’, court hears

BENJAMIN Mendy grabbed a woman between her legs then asked her “why are you angry?”, a court heard today. The Manchester City left-back is accused of sexually assaulting the alleged victim at a pool party at his mansion in January 2021.

Mendy is said to have forcefully touched the woman without speaking to her beforehand or saying anything as he did it.
In a police interview, shown to Chester Crown Court today, the woman claims the former French international questioned why she was annoyed then told her: “You look better when you smile.”
She told a detective: “I was just shocked. I was just taken aback by it.
“I was just shocked in realising what happened.”

Mendy is facing eight counts of rape, one of attempted rape and another of sexual assault against seven women.
    He denies all charges.
Jurors heard the alleged offences took place on five different occasions at his home in Cheshire between October 2018 and August last year.
The woman told cops she was partying at Mendy’s multimillion pound Cheshire home on New Year’s Day when he carried out the alleged assault.
    Most read in The Sun
She said she didn’t know the footballer beforehand, but was with a friend who did, and at first they were “having a good time”.
But the woman described going up to a kitchen island at around 3am to get some food when she was approached by Mendy.
“I was just going to see what there was and that’s when he grabbed my vagina up my skirt,” she said.
“It wasn’t brief. It was like he was really trying to grab me.”
She said she continued drinking and kept her distance, but he later came “right up close” to her face told her she looked better when she smiled.
“I just thought, ‘right okay, well I’m not going to smile’,” she said.
“He said, ‘why are you angry?’ and I said, ‘you know exactly why I’m angry’.
“He then said, ‘why?’ and I said, ‘because of how you touched me’.
“That’s when he was apologising. He said he’s really sorry and he swears to god he didn’t mean to make me uncomfortable.”
    ‘I WAS SHOCKED’
The woman said at this point she walked away and she and her friends left the house at around 11am.
The court previously heard how Mendy allegedly asked police “how many stories like this do you have?” as he was arrested for rape.
According to an officer who went to the footballer’s house following an alleged attack in his “locked” bedroom during a party in October 2020, Mendy was “calm”.
In a statement, read out in court today, the cop said he asked player if he understood what was happening when he cautioned him.
Mendy allegedly responded: “I understand what you are doing, your job and stuff, but how many stories like this do you have?”
Jurors heard evidence from a woman who claims she was raped three times by Mendy in his “locked bedroom” during a party.
She said she repeatedly told the sportsman she did not want to have sex with him, but he said: “Well the door’s locked anyway”, and told her to strip down to her underwear.
The woman claims that after he had finished, he said: “It’s fine, I have had sex with 10,000 women”, before adding: “It’s a privilege.”
The court heard the alleged victim attended a rape crisis centre the following day and reported the incident to police several weeks later.
Mendy was then arrested at his “isolated” home – which has a “panic room”-style locks on some of the doors – on November 11.
His friend and “fixer” Louis Saha Matturie, 41, who allegedly helped find young women for Mendy and was present at parties where some claim they were raped, is also on trial.
Saha, of Eccles, denies eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault against seven different women – two of whom Mendy is also accused of raping.
    Read More on The Sun
Prosecutor Timothy Cray QC said Mendy will argue the women “consented to sex willingly and often enthusiastically” but he is a “predator” who “turned the pursuit of women for sex into a game”.

Jurors heard the couple exchanged 19,671 messages during their six-year relationship.
Prosecutor Peter Wright QC said yesterday that when Giggs was “riled”, he responded with “hate-filled outbursts of bile”.
He added that these were sent to “the very same woman moments earlier he had professed to love and care for”.
During his closing statement at Manchester crown court, Mr Wright said there were “two very different Ryan Giggs”.

He added: “The one who is exposed for public consumption and the one who exists on occasion behind closed doors.”
He said Giggs thought he could “get away with it” — but a 999 call made by Kate’s sister Emma, 26, in November 2020 from his home in Worsley, Gtr Manchester, was a “microcosm of the entire case”.
He added: “The truth has caught up with him and now it’s his time to pay the price.”
Chris Daw QC, for Giggs, said the case was about infidelity and Kate was a “scorned” woman “furious” about his inability to remain faithful.

Ms Mayorga’s legal team reignited the case when they claimed she signed the agreement under duress.

The case is set to be first heard by a mediator on Tuesday in a one-hour phone hearing.

The convicted brute is now no longer with the Midlothian side Whitehill Welfare FC – after news of his signing last month sparked outrage.
In a statement posted to Twitter at 10 o’clock last night, the club said: “Whitehill Welfare FC can confirm that Paul Tansey has left the club. We will be making no further comment on this matter.”
The move came mere hours after Scottish Women’s Aid called for the convicted domestic abuser to be removed from the team.
In a statement yesterday, the charity said: “Scottish Women’s Aid and Women’s Aid East and Midlothian have today issued a call for Whitehill Welfare FC to listen to the community and remove convicted domestic abuse Paul Tansey from their team.”
Women’s Aid Chief Exec Dr Marsha Scott yesterday likened Tansey’s hiring to Raith Rovers signing rapist David Goodwillie earlier this year – sparking a national backlash.
Welcoming the news, Scottish Women’s Aid shared the club’s statement saying: “We are glad to see this after action from the local community and calls from ourselves, @WomensAidEML and others.
“Disappointed by the lack of acknowledgement for the harmful message they sent to survivors by signing an abuser, but nevertheless this is a positive outcome.”
The thug was axed from his contract with junior side Penicuik Athletic as news of his violent offences came to light.

Tansey, from Dalkeith, Midlothian, pled guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to assaulting Lisa, 30, after he turned up at her home in a jealous rage and smashed her door.
The offences, which included monitoring her phone, pestering her, insulting her and threatening suicide when she dumped him, happened between July 2020 and May 2021.
Tansey – the brother of ex-Celtic player Leigh Griffiths – was arrested last May after he turned up at Lisa’s home in Edinburgh despite the her making it crystal clear the relationship was over.
After headbutting her Tansey fled – leaving Lisa with a black eye – but then subjected her to hundreds of unanswered calls the following day.
The violent lout also admitted launching a cup of hot tea at Ms Robertson and to damaging her front door amid another fiery confrontation.
He was given a five year non-harassment order and 80 hours unpaid work.
