A WOMAN told the trial of Premier League footballer Benjamin Mendy she saw and heard a girl screaming “rape, rape” at a party attended by the player. His co-accused, Louis Saha Matturie, then started shouting at the woman to “shut up” as police banged on the door to break up the lockdown-busting gathering last year.

The witness has accused Matturie of sexually assaulting her at a property in Sheffield in late 2016, the jury at Chester Crown Court heard.
Both Manchester City footballer Mendy and his friend and “fixer” Matturie deny a series of rape and sexual assaults on young women.
The woman told the jury the party took place at an apartment on Chapel Street near Manchester city centre at the end of January last year.
She said the young woman had been in an upstairs room with other people, but she did not know who.
    Read More on The Sun
She told police the woman came out of the room “screaming her head off, shouting, ‘rape, rape'”.
The witness told officers Matturie, who was downstairs at the time then, “grabbed the girl and told her to shut up”.
The court heard the police arrived and were banging on the door as the party was during lockdown.
Officers were asking other party-goers about the girl but she had left the flat before police got in, the witness told the jury.

Earlier, the witness told the jury she was 18 and living and working in Sheffield when she began to socialise with footballers and was then sexually assaulted by Matturie.
Later she began to socialise in Manchester from 2020 onwards and went to numerous parties, some attended by footballers, the “majority” of which took place during lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, she said.
The court heard of a different party at the same apartment on Chapel Street in December 2020 attended by Mendy and his then team-mate, Raheem Sterling.
She was sat on a sofa and ex-Liverpool, now Chelsea winger, Sterling was passing by and tripped over her foot.
Lisa Wilding KC, defending Matturie, asked the witness: “He tripped over you and he was aggressive with you?”
The witness agreed and said Sterling called her “fat”.
Ms Wilding continued: “And you were cross about that?
“One of your friends called him a four-foot gnome and properly insulted him and you felt better?”
The witness replied: “Not cross but confused as to why anyone can be aggressive to someone when tripping over a foot. Non-intentional.”
Prosecutors have alleged Mendy is a “predator” who “turned the pursuit of women for sex into a game”, while Matturie, his friend and “fixer”, is alleged to have had the job of finding young women for sex.
Mendy denies seven counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual assault against six young women.
Matturie of Eccles, Salford, denies six counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault relating to seven young women.
Both men say if any sex did take place with women or girls it was consensual.

Recently we told how Rangers will not display their mains sponsor’s logo on the front of their shirts when the players take to the pitch against Dundee tonight.
The Ibrox club are sponsored by Red32 Online Casino but as part of Safer Gambling Week, they will drop the gambling company from their jersey.
32Red is part of the Kindred Group, whose Zero % Mission campaign is geared towards the goal of zero percent of its revenue being generated from harmful gambling by the end of 2023 (Kindred is also the parent company of Unibet, the Ibrox club’s other jersey sponsor).
So instead of displaying 32Red on the front of their shirts for tonight’s Premier Sports Cup quarter-final clash, the Rangers players will wear a top with the Zero % Mission branding emblazoned on it.
Rangers say additional branding to promote the campaign will also be visible on the club’s website and social media channels, and on LED advertising and screens at the stadium.

Ex-Liverpool and Cardiff City footballer turned drug dealer jailed for eight years over £6m cocaine racket

The midfielder had shown huge potential as he rose through the ranks at the club alongside aces Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.
But his career never took off and he was released in 2001 before joining a cocaine gang as he tumbled down the leagues.
A court heard Maxwell, now 43, allowed the multi-million pound gang to use his home as a safehouse for storing drugs in a £6m racket.
Organised crime agents found more than 60 kilos of cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin, as well as £2.5m in cash and weighing equipment in a raid at his Cardiff home.

Prosecutors said Maxwell was banking £500-a-month as a “courier” for gang bosses after being arrested during Operation Venetic, which saw millions pounds worth of drugs and cash seized.
Raids were carried out after officers from the National Crime Agency busted open an encrypted messaging service that had been used by gang leaders.
The thwarting of the EncroChat revealed an “Aladdin’s cave” of evidence against some of the world’s most dangerous criminals, where they also planned killings and boasted of cutting limbs off rivals.
Maxwell was one of eight defendants jailed for a total of 80 years at Cardiff Crown Court – with more gang members yet to be sentenced.
    Most read in Football
Maxwell, of Rhiwbina, Cardiff, admitted conspiracy to supply the Class A drug cocaine and was jailed for eight years for his role.
Jailing the ex-footballer, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke described the gang’s activity as a “dirty trade bringing misery to many.”
Assistant Chief Constable Dave Thorne said the raids in South Wales alone resulted in “two tonnes of drugs and millions of pounds in cash recovered.”
Maxwell dreamed of the big time when he scored his debut but never played for the first team again.
At the time he said: “I scored and you really think you’ve made it when that happens. Not many players score at the Kop End on their Liverpool debut.
“It was some night after that game, but I soon came back down to earth because I was training with the reserves the following week.”
After nearly a year without an appearance in the first team the Welshman was loaned to Stockport County for a season before moving to Cardiff City and then Swansea.
After leaving Swansea City Maxwell plummeted down the divisions before seeing out his career in the League of Wales with spells at minnows Bangor City and Caernarfon.

After retiring from football he became an engineer with Vodafone and took charge of Cardiff Draconians in Welsh football’s third tier.
He stepped down in December due to increased work commitments.

Neymar addresses Barcelona transfer in court and reveals he turned down chance to join Real Madrid

NEYMAR revealed he snubbed Real Madrid as he took to the stand at his fraud trial in Barcelona on Tuesday.Judge Jose Manuel del Amo Sanchez allowed the 30-year-old Paris Saint-Germain star to leave the courtroom on Monday as he hadn’t got to sleep until the early hours following Sunday’s match.

Neymar was also subject to a post-game doping test after scoring the winner against rivals Marseille.
Before Neymar began answering questions on Tuesday, the judge said his presence during the trial was a “right” and not an obligation apart from the day when he had to testify.
He added: “There was no privileged treatment. For those who feel we’re here doing the wave as if we were in the stands, that’s not happening.
“He’s being treated like any other defendant in the same position as him.”

The footballer, who wore a dark blue suit with a matching tie over a white shirt, admitted he snubbed Real before sealing a “dream” move to rivals Barca.
He said: “I had offers from other clubs but my dream was always Barcelona. Real Madrid was one of the options but my heart was always for Barcelona.”
Neymar took the stand after Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was called as a witness and told the court the club offered £39million to sign the winger in 2011.
He insisted: “I don’t know Neymar, I’ve never spoken with him personally.
    Most read in Football
“We were interested in signing Neymar about 10 years ago. Players go where they want. Neymar wanted to go to Barcelona and that’s why he went to Barcelona.”
The footballer, who agreed to be questioned in court only by the state prosecutor and his defence lawyer and not by lawyers acting for Brazilian company NIS and was on the stand for less than 15 minutes, spoke mainly in his native Portuguese through a translator.
He was asked whether he had participated in negotiations for a contract he signed in November 2011 while he was still at Brazilian boyhood club Santos where he agreed to play for Barcelona in 2014.
    Neymar responded: “I don’t remember.”
The Brazil star then responded to the second question from the state prosecutor about negotiations and contracts: “I didn’t participate. It was always my father who looked after that and was responsible for that.
“I sign what he tells me to.”
Neymar is one of nine defendants including his parents and former Barcelona presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu on trial on corruption-related charges.
State prosecutors are demanding a two-year prison sentence and a £8.6m fine for the footballer if convicted on fraud and corruption charges.
Private prosecutors acting for Brazilian company DIS, which owned 40 per cent of the player’s sporting rights when he was at boyhood club Santos, are seeking a five-year prison sentence.
The trial, which is beginning with the World Cup barely a month away, revolves around alleged irregularities in Neymar’s 2013 transfer to Barcelona.
The Catalan club said it cost £49.4m but prosecutors believe it was at least £71.8m.
DIS claims Neymar, Barca and the Brazilian club colluded to mask the true cost of the deal.
The trial is due to end on October 31.
The footballer is not expected to attend court for the rest of the week, as PSG play away against Ajaccio on Friday before a Champions League tie against Maccabi Haifa next Tuesday.
In Spain prison sentences of two years or less for first-time offenders are normally suspended.

Neymar’s dad was due to take the stand on Tuesday after the PSG footballer.
Spain’s state prosecution service is also seeking a two-year prison sentence for the 57-year-old if convicted as charged. More
