It was put forward as being the first game to allow supporters in since lockdown in March with the Government initially backing the idea.
Now the Football Association has abandoned plans to use the clash between the Premier League champions and FA Cup winners as a test event.
The decision is due to other pilot events in sports such as racing, snooker and cricket being cancelled.

Therefore the FA has accepted it is no longer feasible to open the turnstiles, according to the Daily Mail.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport are set to provide an update on their guidance for sport on August 15 after the Government’s review of the localised North West lockdown.
Today’s report also states that even if they do permit pilot events the FA “believe there will be insufficient time to organise an event of that scale”.

The Government recently U-turned on their decision to allow 5,000 members into the final day of Glorious Goodwood on August 1 just 24 hours before the event.

The FA were hoping to have around 22,500 spectators, around a quarter of its capacity, at Wembley.
However, the next round of test events are only likely to be a similar figure to the 5,000 mark. More

    When is the Community Shield?
After the Covid-19 suspension, games are being held far later than originally scheduled.
This season’s Community Shield will take place on Saturday, August 29.
Kick-off will be confirmed closer to the date.
Who will play in the Community Shield?
As ever, the Community Shield will be held at Wembley Stadium.
It usually pits the winner of the Premier League against the FA Cup holders – which would mean Liverpool facing Arsenal or Chelsea.
But there are doubts about whether Liverpool will appear – as revealed exclusively by SunSport.
Their name did not appear on the official announcement of the game, while when questioned directly about Liverpool’s involvement, the FA refused to confirm who will be playing.
Should Liverpool not be able to play, Premier League runners-up Man City would theoretically be asked to take their place.
But City may also be reluctant to take part, with the Champions League final a week earlier on August 23.

Mystery as ‘Liverpool’ is omitted from Community Shield announcement but Chelsea and Arsenal are named

MYSTERY surrounds the absence of Liverpool’s name on the official release announcing the Community Shield will be played on August 29.
The FA confirmed SunSport’s story from Tuesday that the 2020-21 curtain-raiser will be staged at Wembley.

    2

The intention is to use the game as a test event to allow fans back into stadiums.
The statement only made reference to “the winners of the Premier League” – omitting the name of Jurgen Klopp’s side – but naming both FA Cup finalists Chelsea and Arsenal.
The release read: “We can now confirm that either Arsenal or Chelsea will return to Wembley for the FA Community Shield supported by McDonald’s next month.
“The traditional curtain-raiser of the new season will take place at Wembley Stadium connected by EE on Saturday 29 August, with the Premier League champions taking on one of the two London clubs who are competing in the Heads Up FA Cup Final this weekend.

“Kick-off time, broadcast details and more details will be announced in due course.”
SunSport understands an initial draft press release was drawn up yesterday containing Liverpool.
But for some reason it was requested the club be removed from the final version.
That change delayed the announcement from being made as FA officials sought to get sign-off from all parties involved.

Why Liverpool, as confirmed and indisputable Premier League champions, are not named remains unclear.
There has been some concern raised over whether staging the Community Shield gives the clubs involved enough of a break between the end of last season and the beginning of the next campaign.
It is understood the Premier League clubs have reached a consensus that each side would have a minimum gap of 30 days between competitive matches.

That informal agreement means there is a chance the new league campaign will see a staggered start.
Teams involved in the latter stages of the 2019-20 Champions League and Europa League could kick-off as much as three weeks late next season.
The FA have been contacted for comment.

Community Shield to be played on August 29 with Wembley set to host fans for first time since coronavirus pandemic hit

THE Community Shield will be played on August 29 – and fans are likely to be allowed into Wembley to watch the game.
The season curtain-raiser is scheduled for the last Saturday in August with Liverpool taking on the winners of this weekend’s FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea.

And the FA are a long way down the line in talks with the government to allow supporters to watch the game – the first time any fans will have been back in a football ground since mid-March.
They want the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to give the green light to the match being the maiden test event involving football for the return of fans back in stadiums.
The hope is the green light will be given later this week, which would allow a reduced capacity of around 15,000-20,000 to be present while observing social distancing guidelines.
It would be the first opportunity Liverpool fans could get to celebrate with their players since they were crowned champions earlier this month.

The pilot schemes are really important so we can hit that target of October 1 to open up more sport.
    Sports Minister Nigel Huddlestone

And clubs across England will be watching on hoping all will go well as they desperately wait to be able to sell tickets to supporters for games next season.
The government have suggested they would be keen to open up sports events to fans from the start of October, but only after they are satisfied by the outcome of a series of test runs across a number of sports.
Cricket, racing and snooker are the first of those, but football is the key one for the government to get right and the FA believe they have come up with the right proposals to ensure their Community Shield is the match chosen.
Sports Minister Nigel Huddlestone said: “The pilot schemes are really important so we can hit that target of October 1 to open up more sport and get people back in stadia which is what everybody wants.

“We are looking for further testing as the weeks go by but so far so good.

“We are having discussions at the moment so that we can have more sports involved in the pilot.
“And I think the expectation is it is certainly reasonable to expect rugby and football games to be part of the pilot scheme.
“It is a matter of where and when, but we are having those discussions.”
