Chelsea legend warns club they could ‘create next De Bruyne or Mo Salah’ if they sell struggling flop

CHELSEA legend Pat Nevin has warned the Blues they could create the next Kevin de Bruyne or Mo Salah if they sell struggling forward Mykhailo Mudryk.De Bruyne, 32, and Salah, 31, left Stamford Bridge early on in their careers after difficult spells.

They have since gone on to become two of the best players in the world at Manchester City and Liverpool respectively.
Mudryk, 22, joined Chelsea midway through last season for £97million from Shakhtar Donetsk as the Blues hijacked Arsenal’s pursuit of the Ukrainian forward.

But he has endured a difficult first nine months in West London, scoring no goals and assisting just twice in 23 games.
However, club icon Nevin, 60, who spent five years at Chelsea during the 1980s, believes his former side have to keep faith in Mudryk.

Speaking to OLBG, he said: “Mykhailo Mudryk is phenomenal and will come good – Chelsea cannot risk him being another Salah or De Bruyne.
“There’s a reason why Arsenal wanted Mudryk – he’s phenomenal. His pace is ridiculous and so are his skills.
“He had different problems to everyone else as he was a Ukrainian lad coming into a new country.
“There was also a massive transfer fee hanging over him, though the pressure is slightly off now due to the other fees Chelsea have paid.

“I think he has the potential to be a great forward and a great creator.
“He came into a side that wasn’t playing well, but he didn’t make it easy for himself. His numbers last season were not good.”
Mudryk has had to deal with a tough time off the pitch as his home country continues to fight a war with Russia.
But Nevin, who won the second tier during his time at Chelsea, feels the Ukrainian will eventually settle and fans will see the best of him.
He added: “I always look at the underlying player and I don’t think Chelsea want to lose him. Chelsea know better than anyone that if you let a player go, they can be world-class somewhere else.
“He came in in January, which is a tough time for players to arrive. It’s early days this season, and I still have great hopes for Mudryk when the team starts clicking.
“That could be later this season or next season. He has all the qualities that defenders hate playing against.
“If Chelsea did cut their losses, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him shine somewhere else. He’s still only 22. You’d expect him, and a lot of other Chelsea players, to start finding their best form.
“The problem is, you have so many players who aren’t at their peak yet, and that’s why you need experienced players like Thiago Silva or Ben Chilwell to help the team gel.

Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali heads to dressing room AGAIN but fails to crack a smile despite Blues’ win over Brighton

He shook hands and greeted squad members and coaching staff following Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday before being chased down by a group of angry supporters.
And Eghbali returned to the dressing room following the club’s Carabao Cup win over Brighton.
However, he still looked far from happy.
Chelsea have endured a terrible start to the season.

They currently sit 14th in the Premier League table with just five points from six games.
That’s despite the fact that over £1billion has been spent on players since Todd Boehly and Eghbali took over last summer.
Boehly allegedly tore into the Chelsea squad following a 2-1 defeat to Brighton in April.
He spent an HOUR ranting at the players before singling out a senior star.

However, Pochettino has made it clear that he is perfectly comfortable with the owners entering the dressing room.
He said: “I like when the owners come. In all my career as a coach, at Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain before and after. I think it is good that the owner came to the dressing room.
“It’s the way they approach the player is important, if they are in a good way then they are very welcome. After my press conference after the game against Aston Villa, they came and chill with us, like normally.
“Also against Liverpool, Luton, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, they came with Paul and Laurence and Behdad.
“We talk about the game. I don’t see it in a bad way. For me, it’s good always if they share with us and they can say hello to the players. It would be different if they came for a speech or something, but with the way that they came of course they are very welcome.
“They own the club, they can do whatever they want. We are so glad they came and shared with us – even when it’s good things and we won the game, but even on Sunday where we lost and we are suffering.” More

Chelsea player ratings: Cole Palmer looks a snip at £40m but don’t be fooled by Robert Sanchez’s clean sheet

CHELSEA punched their ticket to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after beating Brighton 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. The Blues really needed a victory after a run of poor results that saw them losing three out of all seven matches, of which they won only two, across all competitions this season.

Nicolas Jackson scored the winner following a lovely attack from an otherwise nervous Chelsea side.
Ian Maatsen found Cole Palmer on the edge of the box and the ex-Manchester City ace passed to Jackson who beat Bart Verbruggen with a fine finish on 50 minutes.
The Senegal international also scored the West Londoners’ first goal of the month.
Jackson and Palmer thought they got another goal and assist respectively but the former was caught offside.

Here’s how SunSport’s Lloyd Canfield rates the performance of Mauricio Pochettino’s players:
    Robert Sanchez – 5
Gave the ball away horrendously in the first half twice, to give Brighton two or three golden opportunities. He was very poor with his feet, but made a few good saves with his hands. Somehow kept a clean sheet, but still the weakest Chelsea player on the field.
    Axel Disasi – 5
Didn’t do anything too wrong or too right either. Bang average.
    Levi Colwill – 8
Solid at the back against his old side, and played some really classy passes out from the back. Definitely the best at the back for Chelsea and his best showing under manager Mauricio Pochettino so far.
    Most read in Football
    Marc Cucurella – 6
Got caught in possession a few times and looked nervous as he played his first minutes under Mauricio Pochettino. Improved massively in the second half and looked far more comfortable from the 50th minute onwards.
    Ian Maatsen – 6
Did well to close down Kaoru Mitoma and to deal with Pervis Estupinian for large parts of the game, but failed to impact the game in an attacking sense as we saw him do in pre-season.
    Ben Chilwell – 5
Showed some signs of danger on the left hand side, but failed to create anything serious for the Blues. Not a captain’s showing.
    Moises Caicedo – 6
Disruptive in midfield and looked better than his ‘replacement’ Carlos Baleba in the Brighton midfield. Was industrious and looked like he had a point to prove to Mauricio Pochettino.

    Lesley Ugochukwu – 6
Good in patches, but went missing for chunks of the game and failed to be too involved in the midfield at times. Fortunate to escape a red card for a lunging tackle. Definitely potential there, as for most of this Chelsea side, but looks raw and undeveloped at this point.
    Cole Palmer – 8
Creative and direct for Chelsea, had his side’s best chance of the first half just before the whistle went and played some nice passes too, none better than his brilliant play to assist Nicolas Jackson’s opener.
    Mykhailo Mudryk – 7
Caused lots of problems for the Brighton defence and won a number of free kicks for the Blues. Clearly a very talented player who is just yet to be unleashed or reach his full potential. Another good showing from the start, and received a standing ovation when he was subbed for Raheem Sterling.
    Nicolas Jackson – 7
Ice in his veins for the Chelsea opener. Was fairly poor in the first half, but seemed a different player in the second period and much more lively. Could have had a hat-trick on another day, as he missed a 1v1 and had a second goal ruled out for offside.

    SUBS
Raheem Sterling – 5  (For Mykhailo Mudryk, 69′) Decent performance after coming off the bench, saw the game out nicely for Chelsea and used his experience well.
Conor Gallagher – 5 (For Cole Palmer, 76′) – Didn’t have much time to make a real impact, worked hard as usual.

Enzo Fernandez – 5 (For Ian Maatsen, 76′) – Saw the game out nicely for Chelsea, but didn’t have many minutes to impact the game too much.

Chelsea 1 Brighton 0: Nicolas Jackson becomes shoo-in for Blues Goal of the Month as Poch’s men finally break duck

NICOLAS JACKSON climbed off the naughty step to lift the gloom at Chelsea. The Senegal international has been repeatedly told off by Mauricio Pochettino for picking up five bookings and a suspension in just six Premier League games.

Mauricio Pochettino endured another testing night before victoryCredit: Getty
But he was the hero here, scoring Chelsea’s first goal in September to knock Brighton out of the Carabao Cup.
The Blues recovered from a chaotic first half to bring some much needed joy to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues had to survive to calamitous mistakes from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and were lucky to keep all their players on the pitch before Mauricio Pochettino got a chance to fire up his men at the break.
But they made it through and looked transformed in the second half.

On top of having just five points in the Premier League, an early cup exit was the last thing needed in these parts.
Pochettino knew this was a competition that he should be targeting, a chance for a trophy and a route to Europe after plenty of recent trouble.
As if to emphasise Chelsea’s slump, Brighton – the club they have dished out so much money to in the last two years – came here with bigger fish to fry.
They have European football to contend with and, as it stands, more realistic dreams of finishing in the Premier League’s top four.

Therefore it was Roberto De Zerbi who made more changes, seven in total compared to Pochettino’s five.
The former Tottenham manager is facing such a shortage through injury and suspension that, without a right-back to call upon, Marc Cucurella, one of four former Seagulls in the starting XI, was named on the wrong side of a back four.
Cucurella was one of three left-backs named by Pochettino, with Ben Chilwell back in his usual position and Ian Maatsen starting on the right wing.
Chelsea had their early chances, Mykhailo Mudryk drove a shot at Bart Verbruggen from the edge of the box.
But there was only one side playing anything like a ‘Big Six’ club early on – and it wasn’t the one with five Premier League titles in the trophy cabinet.
Neither had complete control but Brighton had dominated the ball and should have been ahead in the 24th minute.
Sanchez, another signed from Brighton, played a horror short ball straight to the feet of Joao Pedro.

The striker should have been more clinical but clipped an effort onto the roof of the net.
Chelsea were flirting with danger on the ball, playing rushed and erratic football at the back and Sanchez was again fortunate not to be punished.
His unwise ball to Moises Caicedo had the £115million man in all sorts of trouble and quickly pushed off the ball by his Brighton replacement, Carlos Baleba.
The ball fell for Ansu Fati who would have had his first Brighton goal with a better finish but just allowed Sanchez to tip wide.
Brighton could not take advantage of the chances they had forged, and soon started to lose their grip.
Mudryk started to make things happen for Chelsea on the brink of the break, driving into the box for his own chance before doing the same moments later and cutting back for Cole Palmer, who fired wide at the near post.
Chelsea could not get control and were lucky to stay with 11 men when Chimuanya Ugochukwu, having just been booked, lunged with his studs up at Baleba but escaped without even conceding a free-kick.
It was yet another slice of fortune to go the way of Pochettino’s side after Sanchez’s two errors, and they made the most of it shortly after the restart – playing with purpose at last.
Brighton had faded from their strong start, but Chelsea had struggled to take advantage – until they finally strung some passes together.
Caicedo found Maatsen, who had drifted in from the right. The full-back moved it quickly to Palmer, who shifted on the edge of the box and slipped in Jackson through the legs of Jan-Paul van Hecke.
Jackson raced into the space and finally, for the first time in the last 28 days, a Chelsea player found the back of the net, ensuring they did not end September without a single goal.
There was second half redemption for Sanchez too, making a fine save from Solly March’s powerful header to secure safe passage to the next round.
Jackson, who still has more than twice as many bookings than goals in his short Chelsea career, could have made it two shortly afterwards but was well stopped by Verbruggen before having another ruled out for offside.

As with anything at Chelsea this season, it was not a straightforward finish with Pervis Estupinian and Joao Pedro both going close late on.
But this was progress and the Blues have a performance to build on, as well as something for September’s goal of the month award. More

Wonderkid Liverpool transfer target, 18, reveals ‘Chelsea is my dream club… I’ve supported them since I was 8 years old’

WONDERKID and Liverpool transfer target Patrick Dorgu has revealed it is his dream to play for CHELSEA.The 18-year-old Lecce full-back only made his Serie A debut this season but Liverpool are long term admirers of the defender and are tracking his progress closely.

But in an interview with Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, Dorgu said: “Chelsea is my dream to play for. I have been a fan of them for over 10 years, so it would be a huge dream to play for them.”
The interview may pique the interest of Chelsea’s hierarchy, who have targeted players under 25 as part of an aggressive transfer policy that has seen them spend over £1billion on players.
The club have also struggled at left-back this season, with Mauricio Pochettino opting to play centre-back Levi Colwill there in an attempt to provide defensive solidity.
The position looked to be nailed-on for vice-captain Ben Chilwell but he started the season playing in an advanced left wing position.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Chilwell has since been dropped from the team as Pochettino continues to tinker in an attempt to turn the club’s fortunes around.
The Blues also have Marc Cucurella and Ian Matsen on their books who can both play the position so are hardly under stocked in that area.
A more pressing issue for the Blues is signing a forward that can be relied upon to score consistently.
Nicolas Jackson has struggled to settle at The Bridge and has so far scored just one goal in his six Premier League appearances.

Frustration has clearly boiled over for the forward and his five yellow cards in six games means he will be suspended for Chelsea’s short trip to Fulham on Monday night.
Liverpool could be a more viable option for Dorgu as The Reds look to succession plan for Andy Robertson, 29.
Kostas Tsimikas was an option as a successor, but has so far looked to only be a back-up for Jurgen Klopp’s side rather than a potential permanent first-team fixture. More

Mudryk’s confidence hits rock bottom as £88m ace refuses to take on Pochettino at crossbar challenge over fear of losing

MYKHAILO MUDRYK felt so low he wanted to bottle out of a crossbar challenge with Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino — because he always LOSES.The Blues splashed out £88million to sign the Ukrainian winger from Shakhtar Donetsk in January — part of US owner Todd Boehly’s whopping £1BILLION transfer splurge since taking charge at Stamford Bridge.

But struggling Mudryk, 22, is without a goal in his 22 appearances and has been subbed off nine times in ten starts.
Pochettino even told him he “needs to understand the game better” after Chelsea’s goalless draw at Bournemouth ten days ago.
And Mudryk has also been unable to beat his 51-year-old manager in trying to chip the ball on to the crossbar as part of an attempted confidence-building training-ground challenge.
It has further dented Mudryk’s fragile belief in himself.

Poch revealed: “You know how it works in the brain. It is about, little by little, creating situations that can provide trust, confidence and belief.
“One example… today, with Mudryk, I like to play hitting the crossbar from outside the box.
“But he said to me, ‘No, I’m not going to play anymore with you because always you win’.
“I said, ‘Yes, because I have the belief. The balance in between belief and quality I know very well because I am 51 and you are still young. You need to still know yourself’.”

But he persuaded Mudryk to take him on again yesterday and this time managed to earn a tie.
Poch added: “Today was the first time we drew in the challenge.
“Now, you start to believe in yourself, you start to believe in your quality because, if not, it is not a good balance between belief and quality.
“It is difficult. That is important. It is one aspect of how you work on the psychology of the player and how you can make the difference and provide him with the confidence afterwards to touch the ball and score rather than to go outside or inside. It’s a small example.”
Mudryk is symbolic of the huge problems Chelsea have experienced under the ownership of Boehly and Clearlake Capital — a young player signed at great expense failing to hit the heights expected of him.
Chelsea have failed to score in their last three Premier League games and Pochettino is worried his forwards will start overthinking and snatching at chances.
He said: “Confidence in one aspect is to score goals. We need to be more natural.
“To create chances, it’s not only about your positional game, your movement, if you play with one or two strikers, or different characteristics of the game, the most important thing is to be natural.
“We have been talking a lot in the last two days and we are going to work hard and remain positive.

“For different circumstances we are not in the best situation. The problem is we are not clinical in front of goal.
“But the important thing is to stay calm and keep working.”
Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson, a £30million buy from Villarreal, is hoping to get back in Poch’s good books with a goal in tonight’s Carabao Cup third-round home tie with Brighton.
Jackson collected his FIFTH yellow card of the season in Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat by Aston Villa — despite a warning from his boss to avoid cheap bookings — and is now suspended for Monday’s West London derby with Fulham.
Pochettino has held more talks with the striker and dished out a punishment that he is keeping under wraps.
The Chelsea boss said: “He needs to learn not only in this but in other areas.
“We are going to see if he is clever enough to adapt and accept advice, and also to learn from mistakes.
“Did he get fined? Not really . . . not in the way you think. It’s not money, it’s private.

“I don’t like to talk about money with players. But in a different way, of course.”
Former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet says Pochettino’s job would already be on the line if Roman Abramovich was still the owner.
“The most important thing for Chelsea is that on the inside — with the directors, owners and players — they know where they are.
“But Mauricio knows that five points from six games is not what everyone at Chelsea is expecting.

Jude Bellingham’s on-field row with Cesar Azpilicueta revealed after moaning about ‘time-wasting’ in Madrid derby

THE HEATED conversation between Jude Bellingham and Cesar Azpilicueta towards the end of the Madrid derby have now allegedly been revealed. Both men were involved in the capital clash on Sunday as Atletico beat Real 3-1 in the LaLiga showdown.

Former Real forward and Chelsea flop Alvaro Morata grabbed a brace for the hosts with Antoine Griezmann getting the other.
The fiery encounter then threatened to boil over in the final few moments as both sets of players clashed.
The trouble ignited when England star Bellingham, 20, caught Atletico’s Angel Correa late in additional time.
As the forward rolled round in pain, Bellingham was confronted by ex-Chelsea skipper Azpilicueta.

The pair were then spotted on camera exchanging words as their respective team-mates jostled with each other.
Now Spanish outlet MARCA has claimed that Azpilicueta shouted at his rival: “Fair play!”
That led Bellingham to hit back with: “Fair play? Come on man, you’ve thrown the ball four times on the field to waste time.”
Bellingham, who joined Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in a £115m deal this summer, ended up receiving a yellow card for the challenge.

However, Atletico boss Diego Simeone felt he got away with one, saying: “Correa’s play, the last one, to me seemed like an expulsion.

“It seemed dangerous to Angelito but now when I see it I will surely be able to tell you better.”
Bellingham had enjoyed an incredible start to life at the Bernabeu since his big-money move.
