Brighton chief reveals Roberto De Zerbi replacement plan as Seagulls boss linked with Real Madrid and Man City jobs

BRIGHTON CEO Paul Barber revealed the club have a replacement plan lined up in case manager Roberto De Zerbi leaves.De Zerbi has taken the Seagulls to new heights since replacing Graham Potter at the helm last year, leading them to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League and straight to the Europa League.

The Italian tactician’s impressive work at the Amex, though, has attracted interest from his home country, with Napoli and AC Milan keeping tabs.
The 44-year-old has also been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, such as Real Madrid and reports even suggest Manchester City have identified De Zerbi as Pep Guardiola’s eventual replacement.
Brighton want to hold on to their boss for as long as possible, with his contract running out in 2026 – but Barber insists the Premier League outfit have a succession plan in place just like they did when Potter left for Chelsea.
He told talkSPORT: “Good players and good staff will always be looked at by competitors, and we’re prepared for that, we’re realistic about that and we try to plan for those eventualities.

“When we unfortunately lost Graham Potter to Chelsea it was a difficult period, because you don’t want to lose your head coach one month into the season.
“We always have a small list of coaches that we would look to move to if we had to, Roberto was top of that list.
“So far things have worked really well, we’re enjoying what Roberto is doing for us and what this squad of players is delivering.
“Roberto has done a fabulous job and I don’t think anyone in world football hasn’t seen the way he plays and the way we play.

“The biggest conundrum with our model is the better we do, the more vulnerable we become, because people look at what we’re doing, how we’re doing it, the people who are doing it for us, and they want them.
“We’ve seen that many, many times, whether it’s Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool, Moises Caicedo and Graham Potter to Chelsea, Yves Bissouma to Tottenham, and staff we’ve lost along the way as well, Dan Ashworth to Newcastle – it’s on and off the field.

“But I take that as a big compliment to the progress we’re making and it’s incumbent on me to make sure we’ve got succession plans in place to manage and overcome those bumps in the road.
The better we do, the more vulnerable we becomeBrighton CEO Paul Barber
“Because at the end of the day every football club will lose players and staff at some point, we just have to make sure we’re ready and prepared for it when it happens to us.”
Asked if Brighton already have a replacement in mind in case De Zerbi leaves: “Absolutely.
“That’s part and parcel of looking at the top 20 or 25 positions in our club all the time and identifying who’s vulnerable to being taken by somebody else or who may simply just want a change in lifestyle and making sure we know if that happened who would be coming in to replace them.
“That might be an internal appointment or an external appointment, but the most important thing is that we have an idea who it would be.
“There’s nothing worse than suddenly facing a change and then having a gap because you haven’t done the homework to consider who would replace that person. Preparation is critical.” More

Chelsea fans beg ‘bring him home’ as club consider recalling star from failed Premier League loan transfer

CHELSEA are reportedly considering recalling Andrey Santos from his loan at Nottingham Forest. The Brazilian joined Forest this summer on a season long loan, but things haven’t gone to plan.

Since arriving at The City Ground Santos has featured just TWICE totalling only 97 minutes on the pitch.
And according to The Standard, Chelsea could recall the 19-year-old as a result of his lack of game time.
Santos signed for The Blues last January from Vasco de Gamo in a deal worth £16m and impressed during pre-season this summer under Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea are understood to have a break clause inserted in his contract which means they can recall the youngster from Forest in January if he hasn’t made a certain number of appearances.

It is said that if the London club were to activate the clause then they could look to loan Santos back out to another club for the second half of the season.
And they wouldn’t be short of potential suitors with European big dogs Porto, Benfica and Lyon all reportedly interested in the summer.
But Chelsea fans are keen to keep hold of their rising star and want to give the midfielder a chance.
Many of them took to social media to plead with their club to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.

    One wrote: “Bring him home!”
While another added: “Call him back my boy we need him.”
And a third chimed in saying: “Bring him back please!!”
Santos’s lack of minutes isn’t just an issue for his development and for the higher ups at Chelsea.

But it could also come back to bite Nottingham Forest too.
The Athletic previously reported that the Tricky Trees had agreed to pay financial penalties for not playing Santos when he is fit and available.

Haaland’s agent warns Man City to enjoy him while they can before transfer exit.. and here’s five clubs he could join

ERLING HAALAND’S agent has warned that the superstar striker could leave Manchester City. The 23-year-old won the Treble during his first season at the club and already has 17 goals to his name this term.

Rafaela Pimenta claims a ‘change’ could happenCredit: INSTAGRAM/Rafaela Pimenta
Despite enjoying life in Manchester, his agent Rafaela Pimenta revealed that the door is open to him leaving City in the future.
When asked about reports linking him to other clubs like Real Madrid, she said: “Erling is the master of own destiny, always.
“He will always do what’s good for him and for Man City.
“When they all are open to make a change, it will happen.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
“Erling will always be respectful. For sure respect has to be on both club and player side. I’ve no doubts, Man City will respect him.
“If something has to happen one day, we will agree on every step together with the club. It’s always about respect.”
Pimenta was asked if Haaland is happy at the Eithad, to which she replied: “You have to ask him. And this does not mean the opposite. I know he is, but I don’t like to speak for others.
“I see it like this, the sporting result comes when things are good. When there is positivity, harmony, energy… things happen.”

On Haaland’s relationship with Pep Guardiola, she added: “You have to ask Erling this, but as far as I know, from the feedback I have, they get along very well.”
The ex-Borussia Dortmund goalscorer’s dad Alf-Inge previously suggested his son wants to play across Europe, saying: “I think Erling wants to test out his capabilities in every league.
“Then he can stay in every league for three to four years maximum.
“He could have two-and-a-half years in Germany, two-and-a-half in England, and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?”
Following Pimenta and his father’s comments, SunSport have taken a look at five club’s that could be Haaland’s next destination with him already conquering England and Germany.
    Real Madrid
Karim Benzema departed in the summer for Al-Ittihad and was replaced by veteran striker Joselu.
Real Madrid are expected to be in the market for a big-money attacker this summer with Kylian Mbappe heavily linked with the them.
But if they decide not to sign the PSG star, Haaland could emerge as an alternative with Los Blancos reportedly ready to smash the transfer world record and bid £200million for him.
Pimenta was recently spotted watching a game at the Santiago Bernabeu which caused speculation to rise.
    Barcelona
Barcelona could be another LaLiga destination for Haaland.
Current goalscorer Robert Lewandowski is still performing but is now aged 35.
Barca could find it tough to raise the funds to tempt Haaland and City with the club battling financial difficulties.
    Juventus
If Haaland wants to go to Serie A then Juventus could be his best.
The Turin-based side tried to sign him when he was a teenager in 2017.
But they decided not to push through the £2m deal they struck with Molde.

Juventus are one of the only club’s in Italy that could potentially afford the Norwegian and they are reportedly open to selling striker Dusan Vlahovic should a good offer come in.
    PSG
PSG have been the home to several of the world’s best players since they were taken over by Qataris in 2011.
With Lionel Messi and Neymar gone, and Mbappe considering an exit, a gap could open up for Haaland to be the latest global star to land in Paris.
Money is rarely a hurdle for the club and they are the only team in France that can afford him should he want to experience Ligue 1.
    Chelsea
A shock City alternative could be Chelsea.

Mega-rich owner Todd Boehly has splashed the cash on a range of players but the Blues still lack a world-class striker.
Unlike Manchester United, Chelsea are not rivals to Haaland’s current club and they could hand him an exciting new challenge should he want to stay in the Premier League.

Palmer, 21, has emerged as one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League this season.
He has become a key player in Mauricio Pochettino’s team and has earned a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
However, it has not all been perfect for Palmer since arriving in West London, as one aspect of driving in the area is annoying him.
He said: “The most annoying thing? The traffic, that’s the biggest thing for me.

“Everything else I am enjoying. It is hotter than Manchester as well.”
Palmer’s call to the Three Lions came after his stunning performance against his former side on Sunday.
He proved to be a constant threat to the Man City defence and scored a later equaliser from the spot to earn Chelsea a point.
Despite his goal being vital to the result, Palmer remained calm in his celebration as he did not want to “disrespect” his former side.

He added: “I spent 15 years at the club.
“I can’t really go and celebrate how I would celebrate if I have scored a 95th-minute equaliser because it would have been disrespectful.”
Southgate called up Palmer due to the injuries suffered to James Maddison and Jude Bellingham which caused them to withdraw from the squad.
Palmer’s debut for the Three Lions could come against Malta at Wembley on Friday evening.
He could be one of three players to make their first appearance for the senior side as Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa and City’s Rico Lewis were also called up to the squad. More

Newcastle in Ruben Neves transfer boost as Chelsea lead four clubs that could join Toon to block controversial new rule

PREMIER LEAGUE chiefs are gearing up for a spiky meeting of club bosses next week.Clubs will be asked to vote through new rules banning loans from “related parties”.
Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves is in demand but any move could depend on the outcome of a huge debate in the Prem about a rule changeCredit: Getty
That would outlaw Newcastle taking stars such as Ruben Neves from the four Saudi Pro League clubs owned by the Gulf state’s Public Investment Fund.
That is likely to bring a strong debate, with the Toon hoping to get  Sheffield United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Brighton on their side.
Clubs will also be asked to confirm the new deal which will see up to a further £500million per year of  broadcast income going to the EFL.
Many lower top-flight outfits believe that the offer is too generous.

They want strict conditions to prevent the extra cash being splashed on transfers and wages.
But Newcastle won’t have it all their own way on the transfer front if they do remain free to pursue Neves.
Arsenal and Tottenham are also tipped to show interest in the Al-Hilal midfielder.
Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta and the club’s sporting director Edu are both long-term admirers of the former Porto hero.

Chelsea face prospect of playing AWAY from Stamford Bridge for at least four years after latest new stadium blow

CHELSEA face the prospect of having no home ground for up to FOUR years after Todd Boehly suffered another blow. The potential plan to rebuild at nearby Earls Court has gone down like a lead balloon.
Chelsea owner Boehly is considering both options of revamping the Bridge or moving away completely
The hopes for a new stadium in Earls Court will not materialise
Todd Boehly aims to continue his limitless spending on either a revamped Bridge or new ground altogether.
The American owners were considering a cutting-edge state-of-the-art stadium in Earls Court to go alongside their brand new team.
However, this is now out the question.
The Athletic reported that Chelsea are not in talks to purchase the former Earls Court Exhibition Centre site for a potential relocation.
    READ MORE CHELSEA NEWS
Earls Court Development Company (ECDC) published the updated version of their masterplan for the 40-acre multi-billion pound project in south west London on Wednesday.
In fact, the site will be used to construct 4,000 new homes, an extensive retail and office space, three large performance venues and an urban park.
This follows reports in March that the ECDC publicly rejected suggestions that the Premier League side’s owners could purchase it.
And they’ve now double downed, stating: “We categorically deny that there are any talks taking place with Chelsea FC about a stadium relocation to the Earls Court site.”

As a result, Chelsea will be forced to renovate Stamford Bridge.
But construction of a new stadium on the same site is expected to take four years to complete, as they plan to jump from the current capacity of 41,000 to 61-000.
As a result, Chelsea would be forced to play elsewhere for at least some of that time.
But there is no credible space within three miles of their current home.
The club have not committed to building on the current stadium, despite finalising a land deal to purchase the 1.2-acre area adjacent to the ground from Stoll Veterans Housing Charity last month.
Any plan to build on site requires permission from the Chelsea Pitch Owners, a group of 13,000 fans who own the freehold. More

Real Madrid had been favourites to land the striker in June but his astronomical salary of £30m per year, his recent performances and the club’s “financial issues” have led to doubts.
According to Foot Mercato, Real’s hesitations have led to Liverpool as well as Bayern considering a serious bid for the 24-year-old.
The Reds have been keeping an eye on the France international since 2017 when he joined PSG initially on loan from Monaco before his permanent move a year later.
The Merseysiders’ manager Jurgen Klopp even met for talks with Mbappe before his move to Parc des Princes.
