Petr Cech was behind Chelsea signing new goalkeeper after working with flop Kepa in training as Mendy nears transfer

CHELSEA boss Frank Lampard has revealed Petr Cech was influential in the imminent signing of Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
The 28-year-old is set to become the Blues’ seventh summer recruit having completed his medical earlier this week.

Senegal international Mendy is expected to join on a five-year deal, where he will challenge Kepa Arrizabalaga for the No1 spot at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking ahead of Mendy’s imminent arrival prior to the Carabao Cup clash against Barnsley, Lampard stated he leans on former team-mate Cech for advice.
He said: “Petr was important in that because goalkeeper is a very particular position.
“Petr Cech was the best in the world in that position for a long time so he’s obviously had a big say in this situation.

“From my point of view, I lean heavily on him when it comes to goalkeeping today and in the future.
“So yes, he was very influential.”
Chelsea legend Cech – who is now the club’s technical and performance adviser – has admitted that Kepa under-performed for the club last season.
He told Sport.CZ: “Kepa struggled last season, that is unquestionable.

“But the club invested in him and gave him a long-term contract because they believe he has the qualities and attributes to be successful.”
And prior to Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat against Liverpool, he was seen lending a helping hand to the Spanish shot-stopper in training.
Former Blues defender Frank Leboeuf has hailed the signing of Mendy, as he claimed he is “far better” than the ex-Athletic Bilbao ace.

Mendy undergoing Chelsea medical to complete £22m transfer from Rennes as Lampard confirms he can start vs West Brom

FRANK LAMPARD has confirmed Edouard Mendy is undergoing his medical following a £22million move to Chelsea and will be available for the West Brom game on Saturday.
The 6ft 6in Senegalese stopper, 28, is set to sign a five-year contract at the Blues.

And Lampard confirmed Mendy could play as early as Saturday in the Premier League trip to West Brom.
The goalkeeper must first pass his medical and return a negative test for coronavirus.
Lampard said that all being well, they would be able to welcome Mendy by Thursday – just in time for Saturday’s league game.
The Chelsea chief revealed the news while insisting under-fire Kepa Arrizabalaga still has a role in the team and “wants to improve”.

Lampard said: “I think competition is a regular thing at a club like Chelsea.
“The goalkeeper situation isn’t always as clear cut as that… Kepa himself wants to improve his own performances.
“It’s in everyone’s hands to push and develop to try and get in the team.
“I am not making any final statements at all in this minute.

“It is the hardest position because of the individual nature of it and mistakes get punished with goals.
“I understand that and as a manager I have to be sympathetic to that point. I am very aware of that.
“As far as I’m aware, as long as [Mendy] passes his test with us on Thursday and if that is negative then he should be OK to play.”
Mendy becomes Chelsea’s SEVENTH signing of the summer in a monster £222m splurge.
Centre-backs Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr were snapped up on frees.
Hakim Ziyech cost £36m to sign from Ajax, with £45m spent on Leicester’s Ben Chilwell.
Meanwhile, Chelsea paid £47m to release Timo Werner from his RB Leipzig contract.
They then matched their club transfer record by shelling out £72m on Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.

Chelsea set to make Declan Rice transfer move in coming weeks with West Ham star their final act of summer spending

CHELSEA are plotting to make a transfer swoop for Declan Rice to finalise their summer spending spree.
The Blues have already splashed £230million in the current window to bring in the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz.

    2

They are also hoping to stump up another £20m for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
But according to reporter Simon Phillips, the Blues are eyeing one more major deal before the window closes on October 5.
He wrote: “Mendy will be confirmed soon. Then Chelsea will make an offer for Declan Rice. Strap in for a busy last couple of weeks with outgoings as well!”
That gives Frank Lampard just two-and-a-half weeks to get Rice through the door at Stamford Bridge.

Lamps sees 21-year-old midfielder Rice — who also plays in defence — as the ideal man to help the club get back in the Premier League title mix.
West Ham rate him at £80m and will do everything in their power to keep their academy graduate, who was released by Chelsea aged 14.
Chelsea, however, are determined to push the fee well down from the Hammers’ asking price.
Leicester had wanted £70m for Chilwell before settling for £50m and the Blues hope they can get a similar discount on his England team-mate.

Chelsea fans were left convinced Rice would join them after the West Ham star was pictured with “Agent Drogba”.
The Hammers ace was enjoying a well-deserved holiday with best mate – and Blues star – Mason Mount in Mykonos, Greece when he bumped into the Ivorian icon.

Chelsea best XI of loan stars including Michy Batshuayi at Crystal Palace and Conor Gallagher with West Brom

IN recent years, Chelsea have become infamous for hoarding young talent and shipping them off on loan for a season or three.
The Blues may not have sent quite as many out this summer (yet) with just 16 departing on temporary deals.

    12

Chelsea’s best XI of loan stars, according to SunSport

However there are almost certain to be more to come – including Davide Zappacosta to Genoa.
Yet even with those who’ve already been sent away from Stamford Bridge, there’s still more than enough talent to make a decent starting XI.
    SunSport have put one together…
    GOALKEEPER – Jamie Cumming (Stevenage)

    12

Cumming is currently spending the year on loan at StevenageCredit: Rex Features
THE promising goalkeeper, 21 – who was on the bench for the 2019 Europa League final – is currently off on his first loan spell.

Unlike fellow loanee goalkeeper, Jamal Blackman – who is now on his EIGHTH stint away, this year at Rotherham – Cumming has never left Stamford Bridge.
But now ex-England Under-19s stopper Cumming will have a chance to make an impression at League Two Stevenage for the year.
    CENTRE-BACK – Marc Guehi (Swansea)

    12

Guehi is currently in his second loan spell with SwanseaCredit: Rex Features
THE versatile defender has been at the Blues since he was seven-years old.
Guehi – who played twice in last season’s Carabao Cup for Chelsea – spent the second half of 2019-20 at Swansea.

And he has returned to Wales for the 2020-21 season in a bid to prove he deserves a spot in the Premier League, much like Reece James with his Wigan loan in 2018-19.

    CENTRE-BACK – Trevoh Chalobah (Lorient)

    12

THE younger brother of Nathaniel, Trevoh has been at Chelsea since 2007, but is yet to make a senior appearance.
Chalobah has enjoyed loan spells at Ipswich and Huddersfield in the last two seasons but will now try his luck in the French top-flight in 2020-21.
    CENTRE-BACK – Malang Sarr (Undecided)

    12

THE Blues signed Sarr on a five-year deal from Nice this summer – and immediately revealed they planned to loan him out.
Nice are keen to have him back for the year, but there are plenty of interested parties in the Bundesliga.
Chelsea are yet to reveal Sarr’s destination for the current season.

DEFENSIVE-MID – Ethan Ampadu (Sheff Utd)

    12

THE Welsh defender-turned-midfielder joined from Exeter in 2017 to plenty of hype.
Ampadu was loaned to RB Leipzig last season in the hope he’d join Jadon Sancho in becoming the latest Brit to thrive in the Bundesliga after just 12 first-team games for Chelsea.
But he played just three times and will now spend the season on loan at Sheffild United.
CENTRE-MID – Conor Gallagher (West Brom)

    12

ANOTHER hot prospect, Gallagher showed his undeniable talent at Charlton and then Swansea on loan last season.
Now Gallagher will get his chance in the Premier League with recently-promoted West Brom after signing a new five-year deal at the Blues.
The box-to-box midfielder will hope to do enough to impress his idol, Frank Lampard, and gain a spot in the Chelsea first-team squad in 2020-21.
CENTRE-MID – Danilo Pantic (FK Cukaricki)

    12

SIGNED in 2015 from Partizan Belgrade, Pantic has never had a look-in at Chelsea.
The centre-mid has been loaned off to Vitesse, Excelsior, Partizan and Fehervar in past seasons and will spend 2020-21 at Serbian giants Cukaricki.
ATTACKING-MID – Izzy Brown (Sheffield Wednesday)

BROWN only joined the club from West Brom in 2013 – but is already embarking on his SEVENTH loan spell away.
The attacking midfielder, 23, has spent time at Vitesse, Rotherham, Huddersfield, Brighton, Leeds, Luton and now Sheffield Wednesday.
RIGHT-WING – Ike Ugbo (Cercle Brugge)

ANOTHER 2007 arrival to the Stamford Bridge youth ranks, Ugbo turned heads last season by scoring 13 goals in just 28 games for Roda JC in Holland.
Ugbo, 21, had previously been shipped off to Barnsley, MK Dons and Scunthorpe – but will now spend the season in Belgium with Cercle Brugge.
STRIKER – Michy Batshuayi (Crystal Palace)

THE Belgian star moved from Marseille to Chelsea for a whopping £33m in 2016.
But, having managed just eight goals in 48 Premier League games, he will spend the season at Selhurst Park – where he spent half of the 2018-19 season.
Batshuayi has also spent time out on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Valencia during his time at Chelsea.
    LEFT-WING – Kenedy (Granada)

THE Brazilian arrived from Fluminese in 2015 with what appeared to be a bright future.
However, Kenedy has struggled in loan spells at Watford, Newcastle (twice) and Getafe and will spend 2020-21 at Granada.

Chelsea transfer for Edouard Mendy confirmed by Rennes keeper’s agent as Lampard looks set to replace Kepa with £20m man

And a £20million deal could be done as early as today.
Mendy’s representative Djily Dieng told Senegalese newspaper Stades on Thursday: “The two parties have come to an agreement.
“All that’s left is the formalisation. It could even be done tomorrow, if all goes well.
“Afterwards, the player himself will come to finalise everything, including having his medical examination.”

Mendy trained with his Rennes side on Thursday as they prepare to face Monaco in Ligue 1 tomorrow.
But he would need to register as a Blues player by midday today in order to be eligible to face Liverpool on Sunday.
Rennes, though, insist no deal is done just yet.
Manager Julien Stephan said: “There are many discussions between Rennes and Chelsea but they have not yet concluded.

“The idea is to have a quick final decision, one way or another.”

Despite spending a world-record £71.6m on Spaniard Arrizabalaga two years ago, he has largely failed to impress.
And he was beaten by yet another long-range shot on Monday as he allowed Leandro Trossard’s effort go under him.

“Kepa’s here, he’s our keeper and I’m happy with him.

Chelsea kid Lewis Baker agrees loan switch to Turkish side Trabzonspor with view to permanent transfer

CHELSEA’S Lewis Baker has agreed to join Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan with an option to buy.
Goal reports the 25-year-old is in Istanbul and will fly to Trabzon ahead of a medical after both sides agreed a season-long deal.

Trabzonspor’s boss is former Chelsea player and coach Eddie Newton who knows Baker from his time with the Academy.
Newton was in charge of looking after and keeping up with players who had been sent out on loan.
Baker is set for his EIGHTH temporary move away from Stamford Bridge, having only made one competitive senior appearance for the club.
The midfielder spent last season on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf but his time in Germany was cut short in January after a falling out with the club’s boss.

He has also spent time with Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons, Middlesbrough, Leeds and Reading.
But his most successful loan spell came between 2015-17 when he spent two years with Belgian side Vitesse, bagging 20 goals and 11 assists in 73 appearances.
Academy product Baker was a wonderkid with big expectations after winning the Toulon Tournament in 2016 and the Dutch Cup a year later but has struggled of late.
Newton requested Baker make the move abroad for the third time in his short career.

The 48-year-old was made permanent manager of the Turkish club in August.

He won the Turkish Cup as interim boss in July after joining as an assistant last winter having very briefly been part of Frank Lampard’s backroom team.

Chelsea outcast Emerson Palmieri ‘wanted by West Ham and Inter Milan’ with full-back eyeing transfer exit

WEST HAM have joined Inter Milan in the race for Emerson Palmieri, according to reports.
The Italy international has played 55 times for Chelsea since a 2018 move from Roma – but was nowhere to be seen in Monday’s season opening win at Brighton.

    1

Ben Chilwell’s arrival at Stamford Bridge has dropped Emerson back to being the third-choice left-back in Frank Lampard’s pecking order.
And The Independent report on West Ham and Inter carefully monitoring his situation.
Antonio Conte’s Inter have been linked with Emerson over a number of transfer windows.
Last month, reports in Italy suggested the player had already accepted personal terms to move back to Serie A.

However Inter focused their efforts on completing a deal for fellow full-back Aleksandar Kolarov.
The deal for the 34-year-old is not thought to have halted their interest in Emerson, 26.
Instead, they are reportedly keen to open talks over a loan switch with a permanent transfer costing in the region of £23million.
West Ham’s interest comes amid Chelsea’s own desires on Hammers star Declan Rice.

A possible players-plus-cash deal involving the pair has been touted but David Moyes is determined to hold on to the homegrown midfielder.
Bolstering the defence is understood to be key for the West Ham boss in the final month of the window, amid reports of rejected bids for Burnley’s James Tarkowski.
The club will be desperate to secure some incomings after the much-criticised sale of Grady Diangana to West Brom for an initial £13million.

Chelsea have ‘already signed’ Edouard Mendy in Rennes transfer despite Lampard claiming to be ‘very happy’ with Kepa

CHELSEA have reportedly already signed Edouard Mendy.
Reports claim the Rennes keeper has put pen to paper on a deal with Frank Lampard’s side.

    1

This coming despite the Stamford Bridge boss claiming to be “very happy” with error-prone No1 Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Stats show 28-year-old Mendy was better than Kepa, 25, in EVERY department last season.
Should Chelsea pay £27.7m for Mendy then it would be a Ligue 1 record for a keeper.
Lampard was asked about new signings after his side’s 3-1 win over Brighton last night.

The Blues have already welcomed Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, Malang Sarr, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva.
But despite links with Mendy and the claim he has already signed, Lampard said: “There’s some weeks to go till the end of the window.
“We’ve got quite a big squad now so we have to manage that and look at how we move forward in terms of getting the right level of competition in the squad.
“I’m very happy with Kepa. Kepa is here and he’s our keeper and I’m happy with him.

“If we are bringing in competition it will be competition – that’s the nature of Chelsea. That goes throughout the squad so we’ll see.”

Respected football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano said Mendy had already completed his deal.
While Lampard put on a brave face in front of the cameras, it is thought he remains unconvinced by the £71.6m Spaniard in the long term.
