Chelsea star Jorginho admits to Arsenal transfer negotiations in the summer – but says he never wanted to quit Blues

CHELSEA’S Jorginho admitted he was ‘open to negotiations’ with Arsenal over the summer – but said he never wanted to leave Stamford Bridge.
The Italian international, 28, was heavily linked with a move across London to join rivals Arsenal as the Gunners were on the hunt for a midfielder.

But Mikel Arteta coughed up £45million to activate Thomas Partey’s Atletico Madrid release clause and Jorginho remained in West London.
He told ESPN Brazil: “I believe that every player is open to negotiations.
“So I believe there was something they talked about.

“And in the end it was decided that I remain here.

“Now my head is here and we’re going to do a great job with Chelsea, which I always wanted to do.”
Jorginho moved to England in 2018 in a £57.4m transfer from Napoli as he followed head coach Maurizio Sarri to the club.
The Brazilian-born star rejected Manchester City at the last minute – where Arteta was No2 at the time and remained a fan of the central midfielder.
Reports suggested the Blues may offer their vice-captain a new contract after an impressive start to the season.

Jorginho’s current deal earns him £110,000 a week and expires in 2023.
Despite missing a penalty against Liverpool, Jorginho has bagged three goals and an assist in his first four Premier League games this campaign.
He has established himself alongside N’Golo Kante in Frank Lampard’s starting XI and has often captained the side in the absence of Cesar Azpilicueta.
The Blues spent over £230m in the latest window, with the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell all arriving in big-money deals.
And as a result there is plenty of competition for places – something Jorginho says the side will benefit from as they get to grips with the new faces.

He added: “They had a big market. The players who arrived have great potential and can certainly help this club a lot.
“They’re already doing and will do much more. When there’s this high competition among the players, it turns out that the level of the team goes up, and when the level of the team goes up, the team ends up becoming better and even more competitive to reach the top.
“So I believe that the arrival of these great players only brings good things and will certainly help the group and the club.
“It’s normal that you need time. How long did Liverpool work to win something?
“So I believe that every change, every beginning of a project, we need to believe in the project for it to bear fruit and bring results. So it’s normal that you need this working time.”

Man Utd and Chelsea in Denis Zakaria transfer battle as duo fight for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH midfielder Denis Zakaria is reportedly at the centre of a transfer battle between Manchester United and Chelsea.
The 23-year-old – who still has two years left on his contract with the Bundesliga side – has been out with a knee injury since March.

Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in signing midfielder Denis ZakariaCredit: 2020 Borussia Moenchengladbach

But that hasn’t stopped both the Red Devils and the Blues to eye up a move for the Swiss international, who could be allowed to leave next summer.

According to Bild, the two Premier League clubs are vying to bring the former Young Boys star to England.
United are in need for a defensive midfielder to replace the ageing Nemanja Matic, who turned 32 in August.
Meanwhile Frank Lampard is looking for alternatives to West Ham’s Declan Rice having failed to prise him away from the London Stadium.

But the two teams could still miss out on Zakaria, with it claimed that Bayern Munich are also keen to snap him up.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is known to be a fan of the player, with United heavily linked with a move to sign him last season.
Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the £37million-rated maestro.
Zakaria spoke earlier in the year about how flattering it was to be linked with moves to Europe’s biggest clubs.

Speaking in March, he said: “[The interest] spurs me on and gives me strength to improve further.
“The fact that other clubs are dealing with me shows that I perform well.
“But I only concentrate on Borussia. We can achieve great things this season.” More

Chelsea’s £5MILLION loan fee demand priced Antonio Rudiger out of transfer with Blues also entire £150,000 wage paid

CHELSEA wanted a £5million loan fee and Antonio Rudiger’s entire £150,000-a-week wages to be paid during the summer window, reports say.
The German centre-back was desperate for a late move away from Stamford Bridge having been frozen out of Frank Lampard’s squad this season.

But according to The Athletic, clubs were put off by the cost of taking Rudiger on loan.
With Chelsea not offering to pay any of the 27-year-old’s wages combined with the loan fee, it would have cost £12.5m to take the defender for a season.
Rudiger did attract interest from London rivals Tottenham and West Ham as well as AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma and Barcelona.
But he will instead stay a fight for his place, despite so far managing to even make the bench on just one occasion this season.

Chelsea signed Thiago Silva, 36, this summer on a free transfer after the Brazilian left PSG.
Kurt Zouma, 25, Andreas Christensen, 24 and Fikayo Tomori, 22, are also competing for a space next in the Blues’ backline.
Tomori was close to joining Everton on loan, but for the second summer running the deal collapsed.
He too pulled out of joining the Hammers to instead compete for his spot in the squad.

Now Rudiger will be hoping to be given a lifeline after Chelsea’s defensive errors saw them twice throw a lead to draw 3-3 against Southampton on Saturday.
It came before the he opened up about opting to stay in West London despite facing an uncertain future.
Rudiger told The Athletic: “Naturally, I looked at a couple of options in the two weeks before the end of the transfer window.
“There was a possibility of a loan deal, in order for me to get more game time.
“Due to many different reasons and the shortage of time, nothing materialised in the end.
“The club didn’t tell me that it was absolutely necessary for me to find a new club and that they definitely didn’t have me in their plans for the next few months.
“I also turned down one or two options myself. I wasn’t prepared to pack it all in simply because I had been left out a few times.
“I enjoy living in London and like being at Chelsea.”

Chelsea were set to pay Lionel Messi £1MILLION a week to complete £225m transfer in 2014 after chat with Jose Mourinho

CHELSEA were reportedly ready to pay Lionel Messi £1MILLION a week to complete a world-record £225m transfer in 2014.
Owner Roman Abramovich was prepared to dig deep into his pockets to land the Argentine superstar after boss Jose Mourinho held a FaceTime call with him, according to Sky Italy’s Gianluca di Marzio.

The Russian billionaire and Mourinho were keen to trigger Messi’s buy-out clause and would have rewarded him spectacularly with annual wages of around £50m.
The report states Chelsea first contacted Messi in January 2014 during his tax fraud probe.
The forward was fed up with Spanish authorities and a glitzy move to London looked an attractive proposition.

Messi asked old Barca pal and player agent Deco for his opinion, having played at Stamford Bridge, before holding a video chat with Mourinho.

Messi is said to have been convinced by ‘winner’ Mourinho and was keen to finalise a deal.
But, according to the report, things fell through when Deco was eased out of discussions and Mourinho spoke directly to Messi.
Cesc Fabregas – who would move to West London that summer – told Deco, who promptly informed Messi’s dad Jorge and things unravelled.
Jorge was fuming that personal terms had been agreed without his say-so and promptly convinced his son to pull the plug on the ground-breaking deal.

Di Marzio also reports in his new book, Grand Hotel Calciomercato, that Real Madrid tried to pull off a similar move in 2013.
But loyal Messi was not interested in swapping El Clasico sides.
The 33-year-old had looked set for a move away from the Nou Camp this summer – with Man City reportedly ready to fork out £2.4m a week in wages.
But after expressing his desire to leave publicly, he made a dramatic U-turn after deciding he could not take the club to court in order to force an exit.

Chelsea ‘plot shock Paulo Dybala transfer bid’ as Juventus look to tie Argentine down to new contract

CHELSEA are plotting a shock move to poach Argentine forward Paulo Dybala from Juventus, according to reports.
Tutto Mercato reports the Blues are thinking about launching a bid for the 26-year-old.

The report states the Blues were unsuccessful in attempts to lure Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez to Stamford Bridge over the summer.
Martinez reportedly turned down a move to play under Frank Lampard, instead holding out for a dream transfer to Real Madrid or Barcelona.
But the West Londoners could be set to snare a new Serie A target in Dybala.

Dybala has consistently been linked with a move away from Turin.

Speculation even suggested he was in line to replace compatriot Lionel Messi at Barcelona if the 33-year-old superstar had followed through on his threat to quit the Catalan giants over the summer.
Dybala has also been linked with a move to Manchester United – a potential swap deal with Paul Pogba was touted.
But Chelsea now appears to be a more likely Premier League destination – despite Juventus opening talks to try and tie down the star until 2025.
Lampard splurged over £230million on players in the summer window as he made up for last year’s transfer ban.

Chelsea eyed Gianluigi Donnarumma in summer and could still land AC Milan keeper in free transfer despite signing Mendy

CHELSEA plotted a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma before completing a deal for Edouard Mendy, according to reports.
And they may go back in for the AC Milan captain in June when his contract expires but will face competition from a host of top clubs.

Donnarumma has been a mainstay at the San Siro since he was 16 but is yet to agree a new contract with the club.
Chelsea were among the interested parties during the recent transfer window, as reported by CalcioMercato.
Frank Lampard was unhappy with Kepa Arrizabalaga as his first-choice keeper and bagged Mendy from Rennes for £22million.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid also took an interest in Donnarumma, along with Juventus.

But the 21-year-old’s future will primarily be decided by the outcome of contract negotiations with Milan.
The Serie A side are said to believe that he wants to stay with the club.
A potential Chelsea bid would likely demand Kepa leave Stamford Bridge, with no willing buyer emerging over the autumn.
After a number of years outside of the European elite, Milan are back in continental competition this year and have won all six of their opening games in 2020-21.

That includes a dramatic 9-8 penalty shootout victory over Rio Ave in Europa League play-offs and three consecutive clean sheets in Serie A.

Discussing the Donnarumma talks last month, club legend and technical director Paolo Maldini suggested there was little reason to rush.
The 52-year-old told Sky Sport Italia: “He has played 220 games with Milan at his age, that’s absolutely uncommon. The more he goes on, the more he becomes a leader.
“He is a leader in training and with his behaviour. His growth has been truly exponential.
“We must try, it could happen in a week, 10 days, 20 days, we are not in a hurry. We are in this situation now, we know, so 10 or 15 more days won’t change anything.”

Chelsea plot Erling Haaland transfer chase next summer as Blues look to build Lampard’s dream front line

CHELSA are reportedly planning a stunning summer swoop for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
The Blues have made the Norwegian striker a key target ahead of next season, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The West Londoners are set to splash more cash on the 20-year-old after splurging over £230million in the latest window.
Haaland is believed to have a £63m release clause in his Dortmund contract which would facilitate a deal.
Boss Frank Lampard poached £70m Kai Havertz and £48m Timo Werner from the Bundesliga.

And the former England midfielder is set to look abroad once again, as he builds his dream forward line.

Lampard also paid Leicester £50m for Three Lions left-back Ben Chilwell and bolstered the heart of defence by bringing in veteran centre-back Thiago Silva on a free from PSG.
He also paid Rennes £24m for keeper Edouard Mendy after the world’s most expensive Kepa made some early-season howlers.
Haaland has been on fire for BVB since snubbing Manchester United and signing from RB Salzburg at the start of the year.
He underlined his striking credentials after bagging a hat-trick in the 4-0 Nations League win over Romania on Sunday.

The most expensive XI of the summer transfer window, revealed – including FOUR Chelsea stars

And West London new boys make up the bulk of an XI consisting of the players signed for the biggest fees this summer.
Despite many warning the coronavirus pandemic would see a shift away from clubs spending eye-watering sums on new stars, Premier League clubs splurged more than £1bn on new talent.
After another high-profile blunder from the world’s most expensive keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga against Liverpool, Lampard looked abroad to find a replacement for his hapless No1.

Chelsea splashed out £24m to bring Edouard Mendy in from Rennes – the same move technical director and club legend Petr Cech made in 2004.

Mendy, 28, has immediately displaced Kepa from Lampard’s starting team and finds himself between the sticks in this expensive XI.
His new team-mate Ben Chilwell is part of an all Premier League back three after completing a £50m move from Leicester.
Chilwell, 23, was brought in to start ahead of Marcos Alonso and Emerson – both not deemed up to scratch – and signed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester City’s new signings make up the rest of the back three with Nathan Ake brought in from relegated Bournemouth for £41m.

Barcelona offloaded Arthur to Juventus for a total of £75m with Pjanic going the other way for an initial £55m.
Chelsea’s headline signing Kai Havertz slots in at No10 after swapping Bayer Leverkusen for Lampard’s Blues in a deal rising to £70m.

And the 21-year-old’s team-mate at both club and international level, Timo Werner, lines up on the left wing.
Werner quit RB Leipzig and turned down Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to join Chelsea for £48m.
On the other wing is former City star Leroy Sane who left Pep Guardiola’s side to join Bayern Munich in a deal initially worth £45m but could rise to £55m.
