How Chelsea could line up under Thomas Tuchel with Haaland and Upamecano as ex-PSG boss is lined up to replace Lampard

THOMAS TUCHEL is the favourite to take over at Chelsea after Frank Lampard was given the boot this morning.
The German boss, 47, led his former side to a 4-0 win over Strasbourg just before Christmas to put the club just one point off the top spot in Ligue 1.

But PSG chiefs still swung the axe, only confirming Tuchel’s departure FIVE DAYS later.
And the former Borussia Dortmund boss looks likely to make a quick return to management.
Frank Lampard was sacked by the Blues despite having won three of his last four games in charge.
The ex-Derby chief oversaw an alarming dip in the Premier League, however, with Chelsea currently sitting ninth.

And Roman Abramovich admitted in a club statement that his club’s ‘mid-table’ standing is what led to him making the decision to axe Lampard.
Should Tuchel take over in West London, he could bring some new faces along with him.
Erling Haaland is one player who could complete a shock move to Chelsea.

And last week The Athletic claimed that Chelsea are ‘determined’ to land Haaland in the summer.
Elsewhere, Tuchel will likely realise the need for some more creative talent in midfield, with Marco Verratti another player long linked with a PSG exit.
In defence, Thiago Silva – formerly of PSG – has formed a superb partnership at the heart of defence with Kurt Zouma.
But Chelsea will soon have to look to the long-term, with Dayot Upamecano a potential target after impressing in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig.

Chelsea line up transfer bid for Ousmane Dembele with Barcelona star set to go after refusing to enter contract talks

CHELSEA are interested in Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, reports say.
The Frenchman’s deal expires next summer, and he is believed to be considering his future.

According to Sport, Barca are considering selling Dembele, with neither the club or player interested in contract talks.
Chelsea are named as one of the clubs monitoring the winger’s future, it was claimed.
But, they will only be convinced to make a move if a ‘reasonable price’ was set for Dembele.
The 23-year-old has also been wanted by the Blues’ Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United in the past.

He remained in Spain, though, with Dutchman Ronald Koeman taking over at the Nou Camp last summer.
Dembele has since made 19 appearances, scoring six goals but his future remains in doubt.
He joined the LaLiga giants in 2017 in a £110million deal, acting as a replacement for Neymar, who signed for PSG.

But Dembele has failed to live up to expectations and has also been questioned over his conduct.
He is said to have upset the Nou Camp hierarchy in the past due to his diet, sleeping pattern and turning up late for training.
Dembele is also competing for a place in the team alongside Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Ansu Fati and Philippe Coutinho.

Chelsea reject West Ham loan transfer offer for Emerson Palmieri with heavy fixture pile-up ahead

CHELSEA have rejected a loan offer from West Ham for Emerson Palmieri as they face a fixture pile-up, reports say.
The Hammers are searching for a left-back to provide competition and cover for Aaron Cresswell with Arthur Masuaku out injured.

And Emerson, 26, who has been at Chelsea since moving from Roma in 2018, is understood to be a target.
But according to The Mirror, their approach to sign the defender was rejected by the Blues.
It comes with Chelsea approaching a busy run of EIGHT games before February ends.

That includes FA Cup and Champions League fixtures.

As a result, manager Frank Lampard values Emerson’s position in the squad as cover for Ben Chilwell.
Chilwell, 24, has been the first choice left-back ever since making his £50million switch from Leicester.

Initially, Marcos Alonso was No2, but after a dreadful performance in Chelsea’s 3-3 draw at West Brom in September, the Spaniard has not been seen since.
It has afforded Emerson nine appearances this season.

And while the 26-year-old appears staying put, Fikayo Tomori has sealed a loan move away.
Struggling to keep five centre-backs happy, Lampard allowed Tomori to move to Italy.
He signed on a temporary six month deal with the option to make the move permanent for £25m.

Man Utd and Chelsea in blow with Moises Caicedo, 19, ‘set to fly to UK to seal Brighton transfer in £4.5m deal’

MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea look set to be beaten to the transfer of Ecuador wonderkid Moises Caicedo by Brighton.
Caicedo plays for Independiente del Valle, where he has become a regular feature.

The 19-year-old box-to-box midfielder has also featured for Ecuador’s national side making four appearances.
Sky Sports reports that Caicedo is flying in to the UK to finalise a £4.5m move to the Seagulls.
According to his club’s general manager Santiago Morales, a work permit has already been arranged.
There is also a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the transfer.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that there has never been a ‘done deal’ with Manchester United, as some outlets had reported.
This is despite the teenager admitting he is a United supporter.
In a recent television interview Caicedo said: “Manchester United are my favourite club.
“I really like the game of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, I learn a lot from them every time I see them.

“I always try to do what they do, that’s why they are there.”
As well as United and Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton were in the hunt for the exciting talent.
And in-form West Ham were the latest Premier League side to register an interest.
But Hammers boss David Moyes has recently stated that due to the club’s financial situation, the club would only look to do a deal if the price is right.
Moyes said: “If we can and we think there is something available the owner would try and do it, but obviously like everybody else we’re in a difficult situation financially. We won’t be daft.”
But it appears Brighton boss Graham Potter have won the transfer race.

Thomas Tuchel ‘favourite to replace Lampard at Chelsea with Ralph Rangnick alternative after Max Allegri ruled out’

THOMAS TUCHEL has reportedly been installed as the favourite to become the new Chelsea manager.
German outlet Bild claim the Blues will attempt to finish the current season under Frank Lampard but have already drawn up a shortlist to replace him.

TRUE ✅ Massimiliano Allegri is off the list of @chelsea. Thomas Tuchel is the favorite, Rangnick the alternative. Chelsea try to end the season with Lampard
    — Christian Falk (@cfbayern) January 22, 2021

The report adds that a move for Massimiliano Allegri has already been ruled out with ex-Paris Saint-Germain boss Tuchel the favourite.
Former RB Leipzig chief Ralf Rangnick is said to be Chelsea’s alternative.
Lampard has been made odds on to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked following Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Leicester.
⚽ Read our Chelsea live blog for the very latest news from the Bridge

SunSport revealed earlier this month that Tuchel was being lined up by Roman Abramovich following a string of bad results.
The defeat at Leicester was Chelsea’s sixth in the league this term, leaving them eighth in the table and 11 points off the top.
Despite spending over £200million last summer, Lampard is yet to get the best from new signings including German’s Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
And previous reports claim Chelsea want to hire someone who can speak fluent German in order to help the star duo tick.

Tuchel is available for hire after being sacked by PSG and replaced by former Spurs man Mauricio Pochettino.

He won two Ligue 1 titles during his 18 months in the French capital, while also leading the Parisians to last season’s Champions League final.
A move to Chelsea would see Tuchel reunited with his old PSG captain Thiago Silva and ex-Borussia Dortmund charge Christian Pulisic.
Meanwhile, Lampard will look to put his Premier League misery behind him by ringing the changes for Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Luton.

Chelsea star Fikayo Tomori’s AC Milan loan transfer ‘very close’, confirms sporting director Paolo Maldini

FIKAYO TOMORI’S loan move to AC Milan is ‘very close’ to being agreed, sporting director Paolo Maldini confirmed.
The Serie A giants are closing in on a temporary deal to sign Tomori till the end of the season, with an option to make the transfer permanent for £27million.

FANCY A PUNT? TODAY’S BEST ODDS BOOSTS FROM THE UK’S LEADING BOOKIES
Milan club legend Maldini revealed a deal is near completion but warned one miss step could scupper plans entirely.
He said: “It’s very close, we’re in between confirming his signing and not signing him at all, it could all break down with just one detail.
“We saw in him the quality to throw him into the mix with our current defenders, so that’s why we want him.”

Initially Milan, who are current league leaders in Italy, targeted Strasbourg defender Mohamed Simakan.
⚽ Read our Chelsea live blog for the very latest news from the Bridge
But with Simakan sidelined for around two months as he requires surgery, Tomori emerged as a priority alternative.
The 23-year-old centre-back is a product of Chelsea’s famous academy and has made 27 appearances in total since his debut in 2016.

He made a name for himself on loan at Derby in Frank Lampard’s first season as manager, winning their player of the year in 2019.
But when the boss and player moved back to Chelsea, it has been a more inconsistent period for Tomori.

He played 22 times last season, but since the arrival of Brazilian Thiago Silva, 36, last summer, the youngster has just four games under his belt this term.
Kurt Zouma, 26, Antonio Rudiger, 27, and Andreas Christensen, 24, have all been preferred to Tomori this season.
And Lampard admitted having five centre-backs has proved too much to handle.
He said: Fikayo is a developing player. In the squad we had four centre-backs last year.
“I can’t play four in one game and you try and find consistency at different times. At one point Fikayo was in that and later on not so much.
“This year we have five centre-backs. So the predicament is difficult for the ones not playing regularly and that is why he might go out on loan, for his development.
“He is a young player. His development has been a huge rise in the last two or so seasons since I have been working with him.
“That will continue and we will find the best path for that.”

Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater completes loan transfer to Turkish minnows Kasimpasa until end of season

CHELSEA outcast Danny Drinkwater has completed a loan move to Turkish minnows Kasimpasa.
The former Leicester midfielder has agreed a temporary switch until the end of the season.

Danny Drinkwater has joined Kasimpasa on loan from Chelsea

England star Drinkwater has been keeping fit in the Chelsea Under-23s with no room in Frank Lampard’s star-laden squad.
Drinkwater, 30, has made just 23 appearances for the Blues since his £35million move from the Foxes in 2017.
The £110,000-a-week man has not featured in the first team since the 2018 Community Shield against Manchester City and has been forced to train with the kids at Cobham.
After failing to impress on loan at Burnley and Aston Villa, he’s been seeking an overseas loan move since the summer.

He will now head to the Turkish capital Istanbul after putting pen-to-paper with the club who sit 13th in the Super Lig.
Drinkwater still has 18 months left on his deal at Chelsea with boss Lampard eager to get him off the wage books.
He is eager to reignite his career after a dramatic fall from grace since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
Drinkwater made just six appearances in total during spell at Turf Moor and Villa Park.

The 30-year-old will star abroad for the rest of the 2020-21 season

During his time with Villa, he was sent away from the club’s training ground after headbutting team-mate Jota.
His problems persisted off the field after being charged with drink-driving in April 2019 and was battered by six thugs outside a nightclub just months after.
Just last month he was sent off in an Under-23s game for kicking out at Tottenham youngster and FA Cup hero Alfie Devine.
In November, Drinkwater was pictured enjoying a Harry Potter themed night while his team were in Champions League action.

AC Milan to have £27m option to buy Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea if England international’s loan is a success

AC MILAN have the option to make Fikayo Tomori’s loan move permanent in the summer for just £27million, according to reports.
The Serie A league leaders are on the brink of signing the out-of-favour Blues defender, 23, until the end of the season.

Tomori has slipped below Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen under Frank Lampard this season.
Now, reports in Italy claim Milan have the option – but not obligation – to make Tomori’s loan move permanent in the summer in a £27m deal.
Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed the latest on Tomori’s move.
⚽ Read our Chelsea live blog for the very latest news from the Bridge

Romano tweeted: “Fikayo Tomori is set to join AC Milan from Chelsea.
“The agreement is expected to be completed next week on loan with buy option [*no* obligation] around €30m.
“Tomori will fly to Milan in the next few days.”
The one-cap England international has played just four times for Chelsea this season, including just one Premier League outing – the 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool.

Most-recently, he enjoyed a ten-minute cameo in the 4-0 FA Cup third-round win over Morecambe.

After the cup clash, Lampard hinted Tomori was in for a temporary move away.
The Blues boss said: “The situation with Fikayo is open at the moment.
“There is a possibility he could be going on loan to get games somewhere else.
“So that would have to be the solution for him and the club. That was part of my thinking of not starting him.
“I gave him some minutes at the end but while we were looking at that I wanted to make sure it was the right thing for the club and for him and individually. So that’s why he didn’t start.
“But his attitude, even though he hasn’t played much recently, has been fantastic in training and in how he is.”
Tomori – who snubbed a move to West Ham on deadline day last summer – has also been linked with Leeds and Newcastle.
