      CHELSEA are reportedly hoping to pip Manchester United to the signing of RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.
      The Blues believe they have an edge in negotiations as Thomas Tuchel’s assistant coach Zsolt Low knows the player from their time at Leipzig together.

      And Bild journalist Christian Falk reports Chelsea are still interested in signing 21-year-old Konate
      The report states Hungarian Low, 41, will try to convince the Frenchman that his future lies in West London.
      Low was No2 at Leipzig between 2015 and 2018, before linking up with Tuchel at PSG.
      Konate has also impressed Real Madrid and Arsenal with his assured displays in the heart of the defence.

      United have made no secret of their desire to sign a star centre-back this summer.
      Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for a long-term partner for skipper Harry Maguire at the back with Victor Lindelof nursing a troublesome back complaint.
      Konate operates in a back three at Leipzig and with Tuchel using the same system at Chelsea he would fit straight in if he became one of the German’s first Stamford Bridge signings.
      The France Under-21 international has been plagued by injury in his young career.

      Konate has made just 17 Bundesliga appearances since the start of last season after struggling with an ankle injury and muscle tear.
      He signed for Leipzig from Sochaux in 2017 and has shone alongside compatriot Dayot Upamecano.
      But with Upamecano’s departure for Bayern Munich already confirmed, it remains to be seen whether Leipzig will let another top French defender go.

      ARSENAL and Chelsea are competing to sign Achraf Hakimi from crisis-club Inter Milan, reports say.
      Inter’s owners, Suning Holdings Group, have recently announced they will be shutting down their Chinese Super League team, Jiangsu FC.

      It has led to speculation that they could also be forced to step away from the San Siro – although chairman Steven Zhang has repeatedly dismissed rumours of a sale or takeover.
      The club may still need to raise significant funds causing Antonio Conte to look at clearing his squad.
      And according to The Telegraph, right-back Hakimi, 22, is a potential casualty, with London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea interested.
      The Gunners have been in the market for a potential replacement for Hector Bellerin, who is linked with a move to PSG and Juventus.

      It is understood Arsenal were alerted to Hakimi’s potential availability.
      But Chelsea are also said to be interested in the defender, who joined Inter from Real Madrid for £34million last summer.
      That is despite Reece James’ emergence in the first-team, Callum Hudson-Odoi’s recent run at wingback and Cesar Azpilicueta’s ability to cover at full-back.
      After struggling for game time at Madrid, Hakimi was sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund for two seasons from 2018 to 2020.

      Dortmund were keen to make the deal permanent after the Moroccan established himself as one of the best young talents in Germany.
      But Hakimi opted for a five-year contract with Inter and has impressed, scoring six goals with four assists.

      CHELSEA are set for a transfer battle with Manchester United over Barcelona’s teenage sensation Ilaix Moriba, according to reports.
      The midfielder, 18, is out of contract at the Nou Camp next year.

      New president Joan Laporta will have an extension high on his priority list after being voted in at the weekend.
      But according to Sport via Sport Witness, Moriba is not short of options elsewhere.
      The report states Chelsea made an ‘important offer’ for the teenager in a recent transfer window in the hope of luring the Spanish youth international to West London.
      It comes just days after reports of Manchester United and RB Leipzig’s interest surfaced – with suggestions the Old Trafford club also tabled an offer for the prodigy.

      But Moriba is thought to be happy at his boyhood club and keen to sign a new deal.
      The 6ft 1in midfielder had an £89million release clause inserted into his last contract in 2019 to fend off Manchester City and Juventus.
      The central midfielder’s agent is Jonathan Barnett, who represents Gareth Bale among others.
      Moriba joined Barca aged seven from their city rivals Espanyol, and came through their famed La Masia academy alongside Ansu Fati.

      Capped nine times at junior level by Spain, he broke into Barcelona’s B team last season.
      First-team boss Ronald Koeman has handed him five senior appearances this term.

      A short spell with Shrewsbury in 2019 saw the midfielder make his debut in senior football.
      McCormick has played 30 games on loan at Rovers this campaign but missed Saturday’s defeat to Hull through suspension.

      Gas boss Joey Barton backed the youngster to bounce back after earning a second yellow against Burton for kicking the ball away.
      He said: “Macca’s obviously very disappointed, but he’s a young player and he’s here on loan to learn lessons, and that will be a lesson he will learn and carry on into his career.

      CHELSEA are reportedly set to offer contract extensions to both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
      The centre-backs have become key players under Thomas Tuchel since he replaced Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge, with the German huge fans of both men.

      Rudiger, 28, has started every game under the German gaffer, while Christensen, 24, has featured in five out of the last six Premier League matches.
      And with the pair’s contracts to expire in 2022, it has been claimed that the Blues are keen to tie them down to new deals.
      According to the Telegraph, Chelsea are planning to offer Christensen a new contract, though talks are yet to take place.
      They state that the West London outfit are keen to extend the Denmark international’s stay as they are aware clubs are monitoring his situation.

      And Football Insider have revealed that Chelsea are in the process of offering Rudiger a long-term deal ahead of the summer.
      It has been suggested that the former Roma defender wants his future at the club to be sorted out before the end of the season.
      But should there be a hiccup in contract talks, Tottenham would be willing to step in and meet his demands.
      Rudiger recently hailed the quality of Tuchel, who is unbeaten in his first ten games at Chelsea.

      According to Calciomercatio, however, the defending Italian champions are lining Jorginho up as a potential Plan B in case they fail to land their main man.
      Juventus have been keeping tabs on the star midfielder since last season when former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri was in charge.
      The Italy international broke onto the scene at Napoli in 2017 when Sarri was in charge and continued to shine bright at Stamford Bridge when the Italian coach took him along to west London.

      And the versatile player, who can cover midfield as well as both wings, isn’t ruling out any potential talks with other clubs.
      Hofmann told Ruhr Nachrichten: “Basically, I feel good at Borussia, I’ve always emphasised that.
      “It may be that one or the other club has expressed its interest.

      Hofmann started his senior career at Hoffenheim in 2011 and joined Borussia Dortmund later that year.

      The Germany international has amassed a total of 145 appearances throughout his five-year stint at Borussia-Park.
