Watch Leicester fans celebrate in pub as VAR comes to rescue and disallows Ben Chilwell’s dramatic late equaliser

LEICESTER fans partied into the night after Chelsea’s equaliser, through their former hero Ben Chilwell, was disallowed for offside by VAR in the FA Cup Final. The Foxes beat the Blues 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday, marking their first ever FA Cup trophy, thanks to Youri Tielemans’ second-half screamer.

The west Londoners thought they had equalised after 89 minutes when old King Power favourite Chilwell reached in a delicious long ball by Thiago Silva and saw the ball deflecting between Caglar Soyuncu as well as Wes Morgan.
Chilwell passionately celebrated the goal against his former team and didn’t hold back before the returning crowd at Wembley.
However, VAR had a look and noticed that the left-back was marginally offside and overruled the initial call.
A number of Leicester fans were filmed celebrating the decision with all their heart at a pub as some of them even climbed up the tables.
These scenes made for an unusual situation as not many fans have celebrated a non-goal like this before.

But that is the impact VAR has had in English football ever since its introduction two years ago.
Many Leicester fans also took to Twitter after the whistle to celebrate their historic achievement.
Some decided to poke fun at Chilwell, who got booed by his former supporters at Wembley.
One fan wrote: “Match ticket £57, train ticket £35, Ben Chilwell knee sliding and punching his badge for it to be ruled out for offside, priceless.”
Another tweeted: “Ben Chilwell has to stand there watching the players he thought he was better than get a FA Cup winners medal hahaha.”
While a Chelsea fan wrote: “For me the high of seeing Ben Chilwell get the equaliser and then seeing it chalked off a minute later because his big toe is slightly ahead is shattering.
“Always hated VAR and this is beyond a joke.”

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel didn’t seem to be questioning VAR’s decision to overrule Chilwell’s goal.
But Tuchel believed the help of technology should have been used after Tielemans’ stunner as it appeared like the ball hit Ayoze Perez’s hand in the build-up.
The Chelsea manager said: “I’m not an expert in handball any more, I don’t know when it’s handball or not.
“I don’t know any more when they need to punish it or it’s OK to play with the hand.
“In the second half we controlled the match even higher, and we conceded a goal out of nothing, a fantastic goal, but a lucky goal of course.
“And then we have a big chance with Mason [Mount], a fantastic save from [Kasper] Schmeichel, and offside goal, that was very, very close.”

Liverpool ‘looking at Jadon Sancho again’ but face transfer battle with Man Utd and Chelsea for Borussia Dortmund star

LIVERPOOL are reconsidering a move for Borussia Dortmund and England forward Jadon Sancho, according to reports. The 21-year-old has scored 16 goals and provided a further 18 assists in 36 games for the German side this season.
Sancho has been sensational for Dortmund again this seasonCredit: AP
And his supreme form has caught the eye of Premier League sides Manchester United and Chelsea.
But after passing up any interest in him last season, Bild reporter Christian Faulkner has revealed that Liverpool are now back in the running for the talented youngster.
He said: “That is indeed, true, Liverpool are looking at Sancho again.
“He is on the list, especially because they don’t know what will happen with [Mohamed] Salah, who is always a bit on the move and thinking about a transfer.
“Chelsea are also very interested, as we have reported, and also Spain lures him again and again.
“If Salah were to be sold or he says he doesn’t want to be at the club any more then there would surely be movement on Sancho with Liverpool.”
Man Utd were heavily linked with Sancho throughout last summer as Dormund set an asking price of more than £100million.
But it is thought that the Bundesliga side could lower the price to as much as £50m this time around.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have also been linked with Sancho as Thomas Tuchel looks to strengthen his side before the 2021-22 campaign.
The England international was a part of the Manchester City youth set-up between 2015 and 2017 before joining Dortmund.

Barcelona ‘want to offer Chelsea Miralem Pjanic in swap transfer for Jorginho’ after career revival under Thomas Tuchel

BARCELONA are reportedly keen to sign Chelsea midfielder Jorginho in the summer and are willing to offer Miralem Pjanic in exchange. The Bosnian moved to the Nou Camp in a high-profile switch from Juventus last year, but he has failed to live up to expectations in Spain.

According to Sport, Barca are keen to offload the player at the end of the season, and have identified in-form Jorginho as a possible replacement.
The Catalan side are even exploring the viability of a swap deal involving the pair.
However it remains to be seen if the West Londoners would be persuaded into a deal considering Jorginho’s recent stunning displays.
The midfielder has been transformed under Thomas Tuchel.
By contrast Pjanic, 31, is yet to score or provide an assist in any of his 28 outings in all competitions this season.
And he has fallen out of favour under Ronald Koeman, with the ex-Roma ace without a LaLiga appearance since February 24.
It was claimed earlier this month that Chelsea are prepared to open contract talks with Jorginho, who has chipped in with seven goals in 38 matches.
And his agent declared in April that the ex-Napoli ace is going nowhere as he insisted his future remains at Stamford Bridge.

Joao Santos told TuttoMercatoWeb: “[Jorginho] has a two-year contract with Chelsea.
“He’s thinking about playing in the Euros and then the World Cup in Qatar.
“He will remain at Chelsea, 100 per cent.”
Jorginho did, however, revealed earlier in the season that he wishes to return to Serie A side Napoli ‘one day’.

Man Utd transfer for Jadon Sancho ‘put on hold after Mason Greenwood emergence’ as Dortmund star puts Chelsea on alert

JADON SANCHO is no longer a ‘priority signing’ for Manchester United following the impressive form of Mason Greenwood, according to reports.Greenwood, 19, has scored five goals in his last five Premier League games, taking his tally for the season to 11 in all competitions.

And according to Manchester Evening News the forward’s emergence has put United’s interest in Sancho on the back-burner.
The Borussia Dortmund star has netted 14 times and assisted a further 18 in a sensational season for the German side.
Earlier this week Bild reported that he had decided he wants to return to England next season, with Man Utd and Chelsea the front-runners.
However, there is now a belief that Greenwood’s success cutting in from the right-hand side of a front three means Man Utd may not feel it is necessary.
But the Times understands that Edinson Cavani signing a new deal now means the club’s attention has turned to Sancho because they no longer need a striker.
And Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher feels Sancho coming in could hinder Greenwood’s development at Old Trafford.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, he said: “There’s a lot of talk about Cavani today because he’s signed, but the big thing for me is Greenwood. I think he’s a superstar.
“In terms of bringing Sancho in, if you bring him in he’s got to play probably 70 to 80 per cent of games on the right hand side.

“I just don’t think Mason Greenwood is ready yet to have him and (Edinson) Cavani as the centre-forwards.
“You’ve either got a really old guy who has done brilliantly or a really young guy who is maybe not ready physically to lead the line for United.
“I think Greenwood has started 19 games this season. Next season that natural progression is to go to 30, 35 starts.
“I think Manchester United buying a Harry Kane or a (Erling) Haaland and actually using Greenwood from the right, coming inside on his left foot.
“I think he’s brilliant at that, I really do. I think physically it helps him because he’s not straight down the middle holding the ball up.
“I’d just be really wary for Manchester United, if they brought Sancho in, would that stunt the growth of Mason Greenwood?
“I’m not quite sure, at his age, he can play centre-forward consistently. I think Manchester United need a centre-forward more than they need a right-sided player, and I think of Greenwood a lot.
“I’m not quite sure about Greenwood playing centre-forward right now. In three or four years time when he’s physically bigger and stronger, yes.
“But what he’s doing at the moment at the right side, getting a lot of goals now. I think Sancho could come in and maybe play better and get more crosses in, but could he get more goals than Greenwood from that position? I’m not quite sure.”

Juventus reject transfer approaches from Chelsea and Barcelona for defender Matthijs de Ligt and refuse to sell Dutchman

JUVENTUS have turned down offers from Barcelona and Chelsea for star defender Matthijs de Ligt ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.De Ligt has been among Juve’s most impressive players amid a rather turbulent season under manager Andrea Pirlo, which could even see them missing out on Champions League qualification.

A report from Tuttosport claims Chelsea were the first to show an interest for the centre-back, whose consistent performances have seen the Bianconeri conceding a mere 31 goals in 34 Serie A matches.
Barca also made an approach for the Netherlands international after their failed bid in 2019, which is when he moved to Turin from Ajax.
However, both transfer requests have been turned down by Juventus, who just recently conceded the Serie A crown to Inter Milan.
Barcelona have been courting De Ligt for two years now, ever since he and other young Dutch talents, like Frenkie de Jong and Donny van de Beek, burst onto the scene for Ajax.
The three of them shone bright under manager Erik ten Hag and led the Amsterdam giants to a domestic double as well as the Champions League semi-finals.

Barca had been hoping to bring back the old glory days by investing in some of Holland’s greatest talents like they did in the past with Johan Cruyff, Ronald Koeman, Patrick Kluivert and more.
The Blaugrana successfully landed De Jong but came up short with De Ligt, who opted for Juventus.
Barcelona have reportedly formed a bond with Juve, following the recent swap that saw Miralem Pjanic moving to Catalonia and Arthur going the other way.
However, that hasn’t been enough to force a deal between the European Super League partners over De Ligt.
The 21-year-old has amassed a total of 70 appearances at Juventus where he has also registered five goals and two assists.

Jadon Sancho price reduced to £85m as Man Utd and Chelsea prepare to restart transfer negotiations with Dortmund

BORUSSIA DORTMUND have reportedly reduced Jadon Sancho’s asking price to £85million.Manchester United refused to pay upwards of £100m for the England wideman last summer after making him their No1 transfer target.

The Red Devils are still keen on the Manchester City youth product but Eurosport reports the new figure is still higher than they are hoping to pay in the upcoming window.
United had been prepared to pay in the region of £85m last year but they are now set to re-open negotiations to haggle down Dortmund after they came in at a more realistic starting point.
The report states United are more optimistic they can land their man with the belief that Sancho wants to leave this summer.
They will face competition from Chelsea who entered the race to sign the Three Lions star.
German outlet Bild reports Thomas Tuchel is plotting a raid on his former. club.
And it is claimed Sancho – whose contract expires in 2023 – could even go for as little as £78m.
Last week Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc revealed there is a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ in place that would allow Sancho to quit the Bundesliga this summer.
The club exec confirmed there was no such deal in place for highly sought-after Norwegian striker Erling Haaland.

Zorc told German portal ARD: “We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can move under certain conditions.

Dortmund could be forced to cash in if they miss out on the riches of qualifying for the Champions League.
BVB are fifth in the Bundesliga one point behind Eintracht Frankfurt who occupy the crucial fourth spot with three games left.
Sancho has had another impressive campaign in the famous yellow shirt, despite spending a portion of it sidelined by injury.
He has bagged 12 goals and 18 assists in 34 games for Dortmund so far this season.

But it could have been a very different story for both player and club had he chosen a different capital club back in 2016.
Having helped Leicester to a fairytale title triumph, Kante was a hot property in the transfer market.
According to the Telegraph, a switch to Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal was in the works when Chelsea came calling.
The £30million deal was completed after then-Blues boss Conte phoned the midfielder to convince him that he would win a second Prem crown in a row at Stamford Bridge.
It has previously been claimed that a row over agents’ fees led to the Gunners backing out and signing Granit Xhaka instead.
While the Swiss midfielder has been unable to threaten the Premier League trophy, Kante went on to lift it that year with Conte’s Chelsea.

The 30-year-old has tasted success in Europe too when winning the 2019 Europa League.
And Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg with Real Madrid marks the furthest he has gone in the competition following a couple of last-16 exits in previous years.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel sung the star’s praises ahead of the tie, which is set up for a thrilling finale at 1-1 on aggregate.

Manchester United have held a long-term interest in the 21-year-old star with Liverpool also keen.
According to Bild in Germany, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is plotting a raid on his old Bundesliga club to swoop for the attacker, who they claim could be available for £78m.

It has already been reported that Dortmund may drop their valuation of Sancho to around £85m – having previously demanded £108m.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed the situation on Saturday after his side’s 5-0 DFB-Pokal win over Holstein Kiel.
But he confirmed that no such agreement is in place with Erling Haaland, the in-demand striker that Chelsea and United have also been linked with.
Zorc told German portal ARD: “We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can move under certain conditions.
