How Tuchel convinced Saul Niguez to make Chelsea transfer ahead of Man Utd with swift phone call to on-loan Atletico ace

With the Champions League holders loaning out Billy Gilmour, Tuchel was keen to bring in a fourth midfielder to compete with N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.
And according to Goal, the German gaffer managed to persuade Saul to make the move to West London instead of Manchester.
They state that Chelsea and the Red Devils were the frontrunners to secure his services after Manchester City rejected the chance to sign him.
It has been said that Tuchel outlined his plans for the player in a phone call between the two.
Chelsea see Saul purely as a central midfielder, rather than deploying him in a number of midfield roles like Diego Simeone had done at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Saul, who has declared that Kepa Arrizabalaga was influential in his Chelsea transfer, has confirmed that Tuchel has promised him he would play in his preferred position.

He told the Mirror: “Chelsea has promised me to train in my position, to play, we will see.
“That is the most important reason for my decision. The three midfielders who are playing are at a high level, it will not be easy to play.
“But if I put my mind to it and fight it, I can get it. I’ll give it a try and see what happens.

“Give it my all and help Chelsea so that he [Tuchel] can see the Saul I want to show.
“Not just a versatile player. They promised me that I would play in my position. It was very important.”
And after impressing Tuchel in training, Saul is now in contention to make his debut against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Jules Kounde ‘fuming with Sevilla’ after club rejected transfer offer from Chelsea and summer move collapsed

JULES KOUNDE is allegedly fuming Sevilla blocked his transfer move to Chelsea. The 22-year-old emerged as the No1 defensive target for Thomas Tuchel as the Champions League holders lodged an offer for the French international.

The star made it clear that he wanted to leave Sevilla but the LaLiga side refused to let him go on the cheap.
The Blues had an offer of £42.8m rejected as the Spanish club slapped an £68.5m asking price on his head.
Chelsea were expected to make another move for him on deadline day but that failed to materialise on Tuesday.
Kounde has reportedly not taken Sevilla’s reluctance to let him go well, with the Spanish Football Podcast reporting that he is ‘furious’ over the situation.
And he is believed to be that angry that he is even ignoring calls from Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui and director of football Monchi while on international duty this week with Les Bleus.
Monchi has spoken openly about the speculation, claiming earlier this week: “Most of [the approaches were] rejected by the player himself but there was a club that he liked, which was Chelsea.

“The first and only formal offer was last Wednesday, around five in the afternoon, with an amount that did not satisfy our desires and conditional on Chelsea selling a player.
“It was an important offer, considering the current world where there are so many hardships, but it did not meet our demands, conditions, or quantities.
“I spoke to the player’s agent some time ago because the more time that passed, the more difficult it would be for him to leave. We put as a deadline the 20th, and we extended that to the 25th.
“We responded with a counter-offer with a deadline of last Friday night and they have not responded.
“Since then there has been no contact. Chelsea’s formal offer, Sevilla’s formal response, but nothing else.”
Perhaps it was Kounde’s frustration over the failed Chelsea move that led to him being sent-off for his country last night.
The centre-half was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Sead Kolasinac in the World Cup qualification clash with Bosnia-Herzegovina that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Chelsea could have landed Jules Kounde on cheap if they’d launched transfer bid by August 20 deadline, suggest Sevilla

SEVILLA have suggested that Chelsea could have signed Jules Kounde for much cheaper if they had submitted a transfer bid before August 20.The Blues have reportedly had a £47million offer rejected – but are set to make a final bid before tonight’s deadline.

Sevilla chief Monchi revealed they rejected an offer from Chelsea last weekCredit: Getty
Sevilla are desperately holding out for £60m for their French international defensive star.
Now Sevilla director Monchi has seemingly revealed that they would have been open to doing business if Chelsea had moved quicker for the 22-year-old.
He said: “The possibility for Kounde to leave the club is the same as the one of any of his teammates: if a club comes in and pays his release clause the player will leave. But that could happen with Kounde, Lucas Ocampos or the keeper.
“The first formal offer we received from Chelsea was last Wednesday. It was an amount that wasn’t enough for us; also, the timing wasn’t good. We gave Chelsea a counter offer, but we are still waiting for their response.
“When we received the offer, the player decided not to travel to Elche. He said that and we accepted.
“Kounde is a young player and it is normal that big offers normally confuse him. We asked him if he was in good condition to travel to Elche and he said no.

“With Chelsea, everything was depending on them selling Zouma. They did and then they made an offer.
“We told Kounde’s agent that the deadline for us was August 20 – Chelsea made their offer later than that day, but we still responded. Now, we are still waiting.”
The Blues remain very keen on landing the centre-back, who has met up with Les Bleus for World Cup qualifying duty, ahead of the 11pm transfer window cutout.
But the deal remains in the balance with hours to go – despite the clubs reportedly having a verbal agreement in place for a £43m fee just days ago.
According to journalist Nabil Djellit, Chelsea will need to go closer to matching the £68m release clause in Kounde’s Sevilla contract.
However, Fabrizio Romano added there is still hope from Stamford Bridge of a transfer getting over the line as they prepare one final approach today.
He tweeted: “Chelsea had a complicated and tense day for Jules Kounde negotiations with Sevilla.
“Deal on the verge of collapsing many times but today Chelsea will try again with final approach.
“Sevilla are so strong on their position.”

Drinkwater, 31, joined Chelsea a year after helping Leicester to win the Premier League title in 2016 but the £35million switch has not gone to plan.
He last played competitively for the Blues in the 2018 Community Shield and spent last term in Turkey with Kasimpasa.
That came after previous loan spells at Burnley and Aston Villa.
Now he is heading out again after agreeing to spend the campaign in the Championship with Reading.
Drinkwater becomes the second Chelsea player to move to the Royals after left-back Baba Rahman also joined them on loan.
Meanwhile Bakayoko is also heading back to Italy and AC Milan, where he will be a team-mate of former Blues Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud.

The 27-year-old Frenchman was a regular in his last loan stint at the San Siro and helped them reach the Coppa Italia semi-finals in 2019.
He then re-joined former club Monaco for a year before he spent last term in Serie A with Napoli.
Bakayoko, who joined Chelsea in 2017 for £40million, has made 43 appearances for the Blues in total.

Chelsea ‘agree personal terms with Jules Kounde on five-year contract’ with Kurt Zouma transfer exit key to negotiations

CHELSEA have reportedly agreed personal terms with Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde on a deal until 2026.It was claimed on Sunday how the Blues were preparing a bid for the 22-year-old who boasts a £68million release clause in his contract.

German gaffer Thomas Tuchel has made bringing in a defender a priority this summer, but knows he must offload a centre-half in order to sign one.
And it is understood that Kurt Zouma could be heading out of Stamford Bridge to join West Ham after they met his £26million asking price.
Commenting on the potential deals, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed Chelsea just need to now agree a fee with Sevilla over Kounde.
He tweeted: “Jules Kounde has an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea until June 2026 since weeks.
“He’s ready to join if the two clubs reach an agreement but he’ll be respectful with Sevilla, not forcing his move.
“Zouma to West Ham, key to proceed. Talks ongoing on personal terms.”

Before adding: “The agreement between West Ham and Chelsea for Kurt Zouma is not a problem.
“Chelsea are prepared to sell as they want to sign Kounde as priority. Spurs are not in the race.”
The Champions League holders have only made one major signing this summer in Romelu Lukaku for £97.5m.

But they have recouped a whopping £93m in player sales, with the club offloading the likes of Tammy Abraham [£34m], Fikayo Tomoro [£25m] and Marc Guehi [£18m].
And they stand to earn more should they sell Zouma, along with youngster Ike Ugbo, who has been linked with a move to Genk for £4m.
Meanwhile full-back Davide Zappacosta is set to join Serie A side Atalanta on a permanent deal after two loan spells away.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in touch with the Spanish club and are lining up a new bid for Kounde.
Sevilla will reportedly not accept a last-minute sale, before the transfer window shuts, which increases the need for Chelsea to agree a deal over the coming days.
Thomas Tuchel’s side have been attempting to bring in Kounde this summer but have yet to reach an agreement.
Kounde has a £68million release clause but Sevilla may be willing to accept a lower player-plus-cash offer.
Chelsea want to include defender Kurt Zouma in a potential transfer.
And West Ham are also keen to sign Zouma although the 26-year-old does not appear to be keen on a move across London.

Chelsea considering Saul Niguez transfer bid with Atletico Madrid in talks over his future as Blues work on Kounde deal

CHELSEA are reportedly considering a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez. The Blues have been busy in the transfer market this summer, splashing out a whopping £97.5million acquiring the services of Romelu Lukaku and free agent Marcus Bettinelli.

And a swoop for Spain international Saul could be on the cards for the West Londoners.
That’s according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who claims there’s a ‘possibility’ last season’s Champions League winners bring the 26-year-old to Stamford Bridge before the window closes a week on Tuesday.
Atletico are understood to be keen on keeping Saul at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and will reportedly make a decision on his future in the coming days.
Atleti boss Diego Simeone recently said of the midfielder: “Last season he spoke with the club, with us about his needs and what he spoke about was the option of having a position on the pitch where he feels more important.
“And I consider that Saul became Saul by playing everywhere, but he or many of those around him see it as something negative.
“He is very important for Atletico because he can play as a full-back, right-wing, midfielder.

“He gives us a lot of options to be able to count on him.
“He is a player who, in that version and playing how the coach needs him to, performs very well.”
Chelsea are also reportedly working on a deal to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.
The Premier League big boys have already had an offer for the France international rejected.
Kounde is said to be Thomas Tuchel’s main defensive target, despite the recent emergence of Trevoh Chalobah.
And Spanish newspaper AS claims Chelsea will once again test Sevilla’s resolve to keep the 22-year-old at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
He is very important for Atletico because he can play as a full-back, right-wing, midfielderDiego Simeone on Saul Niguez
The Blues are said to be confident the La Liga side will lower their valuation of the versatile defender, despite the fact his release clause will increase after the transfer window closes.
News of Chelsea’s reported determination to sign Kounde comes less than 24 hours after Tuchel hinted Chalobah will be given his chance to shine this season.
The German said of the 22-year-old: “He took his chance very impressively.
“He played very good matches in pre-season, performed for 120 minutes against Villarreal and another strong 90 minutes against Crystal Palace.
“It’s logical that he stays here. He is a guy we want to keep and this is his status.
“It’s not a gift, it’s what he deserves for now.

“It’s a good situation and a good situation for us. I don’t know what it means for his contract.”
Chelsea will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, travelling to the Emirates to take on their London rivals Arsenal.
Niguez and Kounde, meanwhile, will next be in action on Sunday and Monday in Atletico and Sevilla’s respective clashes with Elche and Getafe.
