Andreas Christensen closing in on new Chelsea contract after club offered him pay CUT in initial talks

ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN is ready to sign a new deal with Chelsea – after initially being offered a pay CUT.Christensen has finalised talks with the European champions with the finer points over a new deal thought to be worth £120,000-a-week now being rubber stamped before an official announcement.
Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen is set to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge
It was a fitting reward for the way the 25-year-old has responded to being touted around for sale 18 months ago to now being a first team regular at Stamford Bridge.
But SunSport understands the Danish defender had initially been so under-valued by the club they tabled an initial contract offer which was lower than the current £78,000-a-week he earns.
That deal runs out at the end of this season and though the Blues were happy to keep him as a squad player at the time, they felt his role on the fringes was not worthy of a top salary.
Since then Christensen has made such dramatic strides, particularly under Thomas Tuchel, he is now seen as integral to the defence.
And when it came to a defender being offloaded it was Kurt Zouma who got the chop, joining West Ham in a £29.7million move last month.
Christensen has started four out of Chelsea’s five Premier League games this season as the club sit top of the table.

He has also featured in the Uefa Super Cup victory against Villarreal as well as the Champions League group stage win over Zenit Saint-Petersburg.
Following his impressive display in the 3-0 away win at Tottenham on Sunday, boss Tuchel waxed lyrical over the defender.
Speaking after the game, the German gaffer was asked how important Christensen has become for him.
To which he said: “Andreas has been very strong since day one, can play in all three positions in the defence and he plays with a lot of confidence.

“In the beginning, I had the feeling it was a bit of push to believe in himself and impose himself and trust in his quality because he has everything that we need in these positions.
“Again a very strong performance. You can see it in the minutes.
“We rely fully on him and he’s doing very, very good so far and it is everybody’s target that he continues like this.”

According to The Mirror, Chelsea and Liverpool are on ‘red alert’ after an ex-Bayern sporting director casted doubts over Coman’s future.
Christian Nerlinger recently told BILD TV: “I don’t think he will stay in Munich. Bayern have a recent tendency to lose players for free.
“But you can’t do that in the long run, you have to sell players from time to time if the offer is right.
“Coman is an excellent player, but given the situation, I think Bayern will consider selling him.”
And, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.Net, Tottenham and former club Juventus are also keen on adding Coman to their respective attacks.
Chelsea were linked with Coman throughout the recent transfer window but were reportedly put off by Bayern’s £86million price tag.

But if the player’s contract isn’t renewed, his valuation will drop and the Bundesliga outfit may be forced into a sale to avoid losing him on a free.
Coman, a 34-cap France international, is one of Europe’s brightest talents after spells with Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.
The winger has already won TEN league titles during his career and scored the winning goal in the 2020 Champions League final against PSG.

Coman underwent minor heart surgery on Thursday but is expected to return to action within the next two weeks.
Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann told the press: “His heartbeat rhythm had a slight disturbance with a minor added beat.
“At times he had a slight shortage of breath. That’s why we opted for long-term ECG monitoring and went ahead with this procedure.”

CHELSEA are reportedly preparing an ‘attractive transfer offer’ for Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni amid interest from Juventus. The 21-year-old has earned rave reviews in Ligue 1 under Niko Kovac, resulting in the player making his international debut for France earlier this month.

Thomas Tuchel’s side were linked with a move for the ex-Bordeaux man in the summer, but were claimed to be reluctant to meet his £34million asking price.
It has since been stated how the Blues will press ahead with a move to sign the youngster in 2022 following the loan arrival of Saul Niguez.
And according to Tuttomercatoweb, Chelsea will offer Tchouameni an ‘attractive’ proposal in order to convince him to link up with the club.
The Italian news outlet have declared that the Champions League holders are in competition with Juventus to secure his services.
They add that the Old Lady have made prising Tchouameni away from Monaco their No1 midfield target.
Though it has been said how the Serie A giants may have to offload either Aaron Ramsey or Weston McKennie in order to land him.

Should Juve fail in their quest to sign Tchouameni, they could turn their attention to Leicester ace Youri Tielemans.
Manchester United star Paul Pogba hailed the 2021 Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year following his impressive displays during the recent international break.
Speaking of his compatriot, he told Ouest-France: “Very very good. He’s not a boy, he’s a man.
“It was a pleasure to play next to him. He brings a lot of energy.
“A lot of energy, extraordinary technical and physical quality.
“We wish him to play lots of matches. And that I am always at his side.”

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel reveals he expected Tottenham striker Harry Kane to seal Man City transfer in the summer

Tottenham star Harry Kane stayed despite Manchester City’s intense interest
Reports suggested the Blues were also linked with the England captain but Tuchel insists that wasn’t the case and Romelu Lukaku was always his top target.
Speaking about Kane’s proposed move to Man City, the German manager admitted: “I thought that this would happen.”
“We never had a list with his name on it and I never went to Marina Granovskaia to tell her to buy him.
“But the club sorted out the situation. There are many people around players, their agents and advisors and people in between and we had some information from these people.
“But it was never that close that we had to experience the rivalry [between Tottenham and Chelsea].
“We know about the rivalry but I had a feeling that it was never that far.”

Tuchel, though, insists that he wouldn’t have feared City any more with Kane in their squad during the Premier League title chase.
But the former Borussia Dortmund boss admits he was pleased with the 28-year-old proving to be a one-club man.
Tuchel added: “No, I was not scared, but if it would have happened, I would have been very interested in how maybe it would have changed Manchester City’s style of playing.
“We are not afraid of anyone. We accept any team and Manchester City, Man United and Liverpool, they are the teams strong like no other in this league and they have strong squads.
“These are the guys with whom we want to compete and it’s normal that they fight for the best players and I thought this is maybe going to happen.

“On one side I was happy that he stayed because it is also nice that it exists in football that players play for one club only.
“Harry Kane is Tottenham and even for me – I have absolutely nothing to do with Tottenham, I have never worked for them – when I think about Tottenham in the last decade you think about Harry Kane and this is very nice.
“Like you think about [Lionel] Messi and straight away you think about Barcelona and it is very hard to think that he plays for another club now, and that’s the same for Harry Kane.
“So, from this side, I was happy because I like it and a part of my personality is still a fan and I like that things like this happen.
“It is also nice that Romelu Lukaku is back at Chelsea and some things are a good fit and should not be changed.”

Haaland has already banged in nine goals from seven games for BVB this term, while he scored five times during the recent international break.
And according to SportBild, the ex-Red Bull Salzburg ace is almost certain to leave next year as clubs look to prise him away from Signal Iduna Park.
They state that only Manchester United, City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are able to afford the player.
With Haaland set to be sold, the news outlet claims that Dortmund have already drawn up a four-man shortlist to replace the centre-forward.
Inter Milan ace Lautaro Martinez is believed to be a target, along with Torino ace Andrea Belotti and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram.
And they have also identified a possible swoop for Timo Werner, who has struggled since joining the Blues from RB Leipzig last year.

The 25-year-old scored just six Premier League goals from 35 top-flight games last term.
And he has failed to get on the score sheet from any of his four outings in all competitions this campaign.
It has been said that Dortmund are weighing up whether to bring him back to the Bundesliga, where they believe he will suit boss Marco Rose’s style of play.
But in order to join BVB, the former Stuttgart man would have to take a pay cut to force through the move.

Werner has also been linked with German giants Bayern Munich, where he would be reunited with former Leipzig gaffer Julian Nagelsmann.
His ex-team-mates Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer joined the Bavarian outfit this summer, and the club could look to bring Werner to the Allianz Arena should Robert Lewandowski depart.
Dutch legends Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten recently ripped into the forward for his poor goal return, with his lack of confidence labelled as ‘pathetic’.

Blackman, 27, has been shipped out on loan to six different clubs across England and Sweden since 2016.
He moves to California with LAFC sitting 8th in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference.
“Jamal is a talented goalkeeper and an important addition to the club” LAFC co-president John Thorrington said in a statement.
“We look forward to welcoming him and are confident that he will prove to be a great fit with his skills and experience.”
Blackman has represented England at youth-team level and spent last season out on loan in the Championship with Rotherham.
He made 28 appearances and kept 6 clean sheets for the Millers but could not prevent them from being relegated.

Standing at 6ft 6in tall, Blackman makes for an imposing presence between the sticks and will compete with Pablo Sisniega and Tomas Romero for a starting role in LA.
Blackman will play under former Swansea boss Bob Bradley at Banc of California Stadium.
The Black and Gold have notched eight wins in 23 matches so far this season.

Chelsea ‘plan to raid Inter Milan for two more players after Lukaku transfer as they target Skriniar and Bastoni’

CHELSEA’S search for defensive reinforcements could see them shopping back at Inter Milan, according to reports. The Champions League winners brought in star striker Romelu Lukaku from Inter this summer in a blockbuster £97.5million deal.
Milan Skriniar (left) and Alessandro Bastoni (right) both play at the heart of the Inter defenceCredit: Getty
And now SportMediaSet claim the Belgian has told his new employers to take a look at Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni.
The defensive duo are key cogs in the Inter machine and the Italian champions are thought to be unwilling to sell.
But with Kurt Zouma moving to West Ham and 36-year-old Thiago Silva not getting any younger, Chelsea will be looking to strengthen in defence when the transfer window reopens in January.
Skriniar is a no-nonsense centre-back talked of as the heir to former Slovakia captain and compatriot Martin Skrtel.
Left-footed Bastoni also plays in the centre of defence but can fill-in at fullback where he started his career.
The 22-year-old is one of Italy’s brightest young stars and his confidence on the ball would work well within boss Thomas Tuchel’s system.

Chelsea feel under-resourced at centre-back, having allowed Zouma to move to West Ham for £29.8million this summer.
Versatile academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah joined Silva and Antonio Rudiger in a back-three in Chelsea’s most recent outing – a 3-0 win against Aston Villa.

But with Tuchel determined to challenge for this season’s Premier League title and defend his Champions League crown, the Blues will be looking for further strength in depth.
If the recent arrival of Lukaku from Inter is anything to go by, Chelsea can expect the best when shopping at the San Siro.
Lukaku’s return to Chelsea, where he spent the years 2011 to 2014, has seen him score three goals in three appearances so far.

The Spain international made that decision after being frozen out of the team by Mourinho and the rest of his coaching staff.
But the 34-year-old found what he was looking for after just one conversation with Sarri and now insists that Roma belong to the past.
Pedro said: “It was very complicated in Roma, they left me out of the team and none of the coaches spoke to me, I didn’t know anything about this matter.
“When I spoke with Maurizio Sarri I realised that Lazio was a great opportunity.
“It is true that no player has left Roma for Lazio in a long time, but I am very happy here.
“Roma is in the past, I don’t want to talk about that anymore, my goal now is to help Lazio and my team-mates.”
