Chelsea ‘agree personal terms with Wesley Fofana’ but still haven’t had transfer bid accepted by Leicester

WESLEY FOFANA has agreed personal terms ahead of his potential move to Chelsea, according to reports.Chelsea have been in the market for defensive reinforcements after losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen for free at the end of last season.
Wesley Fofana could soon switch Leicester for ChelseaCredit: Reuters
And while new owner Todd Boehly has been busy signing off on deals to bring in ex-Napoli captain Kalidou Koulibaly and versatile Spaniard Marc Cucurella, the spending is set to continue.
Fofana has been extensively linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the last few weeks and is understood to have told the Foxes he wants to move.
And now the Frenchman has agreed personal terms ahead of a move, according to the Mail.
The 21-year-old is set for a significant pay rise which will see him earn £200,000 per week.

However, Chelsea remain some way short of Leicester’s valuation of the defender.
Fofana remains a key player for Brendan Rodgers’ side and has been a mainstay in the starting XI since his 2020 move from Saint-Etienne when fit.
In addition, Fofana signed a new five-year deal as recently as March, so Leicester’s colossal £84million price tag on him appears justified from an economic point of view.
Chelsea have seen their first two offers of £60m and £70m rejected.

Chelsea have already spent nearly £170m on new arrivals this summer, including Raheem Sterling and Carney Chukwuemeka also representing a big slug of money.
And with reports linking them to deals for Fofana, Frenkie de Jong, Josip Juranovic, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang it could eclipse £250m and even reach up to £300m. More

Four Premier League keepers nominated for world’s best goalie including Chelsea ace Mendy but all look set to miss out

FOUR Premier League goalkeepers have been nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or Yashin Trophy 2022.The Prem quartet consists of Liverpool stopper Alisson, Man City No1 Ederson, Tottenham’s first choice Hugo Lloris and Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy.

However, it’s unlikely any of the aforementioned group will win the prize as Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois is favourite to lift the gong for world’s best keeper.
Alisson played a key role in helping the Reds attain the domestic double – consisting of the FA and League Cup last season.
The Brazilian is no stranger to the award as he scooped it when it was launched in 2019.

Meanwhile, Lloris inspired Tottenham to clinch the Prem’s fourth spot in the previous campaign.
While Ederson ensured City won their second Prem title in a row.
Blues stopper Mendy narrowly missed out on last year’s Yashin prize to AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
And he’s set for heartache once again after Cortouis’ heroics meant Los Blancos were the worthy winners of the La Liga and Champions League.

Yashin trophy nominees 2022Award to be presented at Ballon d’Or award ceremony 2022

    Edouard Mendy (Chelsea/Senegal)
    Ederson (Man City/Brazil)
    Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich/Germany)
    Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid/Belgium)
    Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid/Slovenia)
    Alisson (Liverpool/Brazil)
    Hugo Lloris (Tottenham/France)
    Yassine Bounou (Sevilla/Morrocco)
    Mike Maignan (AC Milan/France)

The remarkable feat has propelled Courtois above his Prem rivals in the race for the award.
But he’s also got to thwart competition from Atletico Madrid goalie Jan Oblak, Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer, Sevilla stopper Yassine Bounou, AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, plus Eintracht Frankfurt counterpart Kevin Trapp – to clinch the coveted prize.
And for the first time since 2005, the Yashin trophy winner won’t share the stage with Lionel Messi who’s been left off the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist after a poor debut season at PSG.
Messi retained the award for the seventh time last year, but he won’t be given the opportunity to win it for an eighth.
The Argentine’s omission caused fury amongst football fans who took to social media to express frustration over his absence.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo is in with a shout of clinching the prize this year despite a tumultuous spell with Man United last season.
Other stars on the shortlist include Real hotshot Karim Benzema, former Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, and Reds attacker Mo Salah.
Courtois also made the list – but a goalie will never win the prize with the likes of Benzema gunning for it, he thinks.
If successful, the Belgian will be the first keeper since Russian ace Lev Yashin to lift the Ballon d’Or who done so in 1963.
His amazing feat led to the Yashin award being named after him. More

Chelsea’s new star Koulibaly grew up with STONES for goalposts aged eight, but now he’s the rock of the Blues defence

KALIDOU KOULIBALY, the new rock of Chelsea’s defence, grew up playing with stones for goalposts.Childhood friend Mohamodou Ndiaye has happy memories of their makeshift pitch in Saint-Die, an industrial town in north east France.
Koulibaly (second from right, middle row) grew up playing with stones for goalposts
Koulibaly visiting Saint-Die alongside childhood friend Ndiaye
Koulibaly was given a hero’s welcome upon his return to home
Ndiaye said: “Kalidou and I have known each other since we were five or so.
“We always used to play football after school on concrete. If you fell over, it hurt but after a while you got used to it.
“Behind his house we created a pitch with big stones to make the goals.
“Later Kalidou was the class representative at school. He made a request to have proper goals on the playground and we got them.”

Koulibaly quickly stood out when he joined the youth section of SR Saint-Die.
Coach Philippe Pissot, who first came across the youngster when he was eight, said: “He was the boss of the defence, even at that age, and of the whole team.

“All the decisions he took were the right ones. And he had that air, that authority in his tackling.
“When I watch him on the TV now, I recognise the same qualities.”

Pissot’s day job was as a teacher at Ecole Vincent Auriol, the primary school at the heart of the Kellermann district, a working-class area with a large immigrant population.
Ndiaye said: “Our dads were factory workers.
“People of several different origins lived side by side, and they were warm and open-minded.
“We had friends or acquaintances whose background was Portuguese, Turkish, Algerian, Moroccan, Mauritanian.
“Our Senegalese community was well represented, we all spoke the same ‘peulh’ dialect and were like one big family.”
The boys were in Pissot’s class for their final year of primary school.
In the summer term of 2002, France went to the Far East to defend the World Cup won on home soil and were stunned in their opening game by a certain West African country.
Pissot said: “The match between France and Senegal was in the morning, French time, while we were at school.

“At the back of the classroom was a TV that we used to show documentaries.
“Kalidou and Mohamodou were particularly happy when I said we were going to watch the game.
“I told Kalidou: ‘France 5 Senegal 0.’ But Senegal won 1-0 and they loved it.”
Fast forward nearly 20 years, and Mohamodou and the rest of Kellermann’s Senegalese community were celebrating what is arguably Koulibaly’s greatest moment – captaining his country to their first African Cup of Nations triumph in February.
But the road to glory had plenty of bumps in it. Not least when Metz, who had signed Koulibaly as a 13 year old, released him at 16.
Ndiaye says the rejection spurred his friend on, both as a footballer and a scholar.
Koulibaly studied hard and thought about becoming a PE teacher, while playing for the club’s adult first team in a regional league.
Ndiaye said: “Kalidou was the youngest player in the first team.

Koulibaly paid extra attention to his diet, never went to bed late and did extra training during his youth daysCredit: Reuters
“Sometimes he had to have a note from the club so he could leave school early to train or play a match during the week.
“Even though the club was amateur, Kalidou kept up his regime from the Metz academy, with a balanced diet, extra training and never going to bed late.
“I used to go to his place to watch matches on TV on Sunday nights, and he would often be falling asleep before half time.”
But when Metz realised their mistake and came calling again, Koulibaly was wide awake.
After making his professional debut there, he moved on to Belgian club Genk, a talent factory that has also produced Kevin De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois, among others.
Then came eight seasons at Napoli, where he was part of the club’s revival as a domestic and European force as well as being repeatedly voted the best defender in Serie A.
Back in Saint-Die, they have watched Koulibaly’s progress with pride and delight.
The old SR Saint-Die club, of which Pissot was secretary, merged in 2019 with Saint-Die Kellermann, whose president is Ndiaye.

Koulibaly’s younger brother Seoudou, a Chelsea fan, plays for the first team and the man himself returns frequently to where it all began.
Koulibaly was made a Citizen of Honour of Saint-Die in 2015.
Ndiaye says his friend likes to keep things low key and not to talk about how he helps the club out with equipment, funds development projects in Senegal and takes a prominent role in fighting racism in football.
Ndiaye said: “Kalidou is a role model for our town’s young players.
“He has shown that with perseverance and self belief, you can realise your dreams.
“In our district of Kellermann, when he comes back during holidays, he remains very accessible to the youngsters.
“He often comes out where the kids love to chat, have a coffee, while watching matches.”
Pissot said: “Many of the kids have Napoli shirts with Koulibaly 26 on the back and lots of people watched his matches on TV.

“I’m sure it will be the same with Chelsea.
“For Kellermann and Saint-Die in general, he’s a very important symbol.”

Eventual winners of the transfer race, Barcelona, and Chelsea were keen on the 2021 Ballon d’Or runner-up.
And according to Sport 1, Bayern had hoped Lewandowski would go to play his football at Stamford Bridge instead of the Camp Nou so they could try and land German Havertz.

Lewandowski was eventually granted his dream move to Barca and Bayern instead signed Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, who has hit the ground running.

Conor Gallagher, for example, is one Palace have their eye on should his game time be further impacted at Chelsea if Frenkie de Jong arrives from Barcelona.
England midfielder Gallagher, 22, shone on loan at Selhurst Park last season, netting eight goals and grabbing three assists in the Premier League.
It is believed Eagles chief Patrick Vieira would be interested in borrowing him again should the chance arise.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek is another Chelsea player and former Palace loanee who may be of interest if the Blues are willing to farm him out.

But SunSport understands Palace are not interested in borrowing Gallagher and Loftus-Cheek’s club-mate Callum Hudson-Odoi.
While a move to bring back academy product Aaron Wan-Bissaka on loan from Manchester United looks increasingly unlikely, following the arrival of Chris Richards from Bayern Munich.
Palace feel they have enough cover at right-back now with Nathaniel Clyne, Joel Ward, Nathan Ferguson and Richards.
A new striker is also not thought to be on the agenda, despite Christian Benteke moving to DC United, the MLS side managed by Wayne Rooney.

Manchester United have been pushing to sign him since the transfer window opened in June, but the midfielder has made it clear that he does not want to make the move to Old Trafford.
However, Barcelona chiefs are attempting to force him out of the club, suggesting that he should reduce his wage demands or leave.
The Catalan giants already owe De Jong around £17million in unpaid wages after he agreed to defer the payment of his salary during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Club officials now believe that negotiating a move away for the Dutchman would resolve any financial differences.

But, Holland boss Van Gaal is concerned that the situation at Barcelona could destroy De Jong’s chances of breaking into the World Cup squad.
According to Dutch outlet AD, the 71-year-old has claimed that the midfielder must be given the chance to play regularly in order to properly prepare for the World Cup.

De Jong will likely have to seek a move away in order to get more game time, but a move to Chelsea could now be on the cards.
The Blues are reportedly close to striking a £67.6m agreement with Barcelona for the Dutchman, who is understood to be willing to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
