In his first season at the club, he made 28 Premier League appearances.
A fibula fracture meant he missed out on most of the 2021/22 season.
Fofana was back fit for the start of the new season, and played the full 90 against Brentford and Arsenal.
But he was dropped from the team that lost 2-1 to Southampton.

How Chelsea could line up against Leicester with Azpilicueta filling hole left by Koulibaly after Leeds shambles

THOMAS TUCHEL will be forced to make changes to his starting line-up as Chelsea face Leicester this Saturday. Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off as the Blues were mauled by Leeds at Elland Road.
This is how Chelsea could line-up following the poor performance at Leeds and the suspension of Koulibaly
Tuchel’s team lost in convincing fashion, shipping three goals in a toothless performance.
The German boss will now be desperate for his side to react in the most positive way possible.
Koulibaly is suspended after his reckless red card, so expect wholesale changes across the defensive unit.
Marc Cucurella can be utilised at left centre-back to accommodate the returning Ben Chilwell.

Blues fans will be keen to see that pairing on the left side of the back five.
Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta could come back in to the line-up after snubbing Barcelona to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge until 2024.
After a miserable team display against Leeds, Conor Gallagher may be the one dropped from midfield.
With N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic still injured, Ruben Loftus-Cheek could slide across.

This makes way for England international Reece James to step back in at right wing-back.
The forward line should remain the same with Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount looking to bounce back from a goalless display at the hands of Jesse Marsch’s men.
Chelsea have pulled the plug on their bid to sign Wesley Fofana after Leicester rejected a THIRD bid worth £70million including add-ons.
But he may play on the Stamford Bridge turf on Saturday for the opposition.

Brendan Rodgers will be left with another selection headache.
Any hopes he had of Fofana being in the right frame of mind, fully-focussed on the job in hand, seem slim after this latest transfer twist and he looks likely to be left out again.

They splashed £50million on winger Raheem Sterling this summer, but still lack firepower upfront.
Chelsea’s dire need for goals was exposed during their 3-0 loss to Leeds last weekend.
This is why they’ve presented Barcelona with a final offer of £17m to secure Aubameyang’s services.

But respected Italian sports daily La Gazzetta Dello Sport have now claimed that Milan will demand £126.1m (€150million).
That staggering fee is in part because Leao owes his former club Sporting Lisbon £13.85m after terminating his own contract.
Leao tore up his deal with Sporting in 2018, after fans attacked the players at the club’s training ground.
The Portugal star then join Lille on a free transfer, before moving on to Milan in 2019.

But in 2020, the Portuguese Sports Arbitration Court ordered Leao to pay Sporting £13.85m and his appeal against the ruling failed.
Striker Leao bagged 11 goals in Serie A last season as the Rossoneri charged to the title.

But Chelsea may baulk at the fee for Leao and focus on other targets, such as as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Anthony Gordon.
Barcelona want around £25m for the former Arsenal striker which now seems like snip compared to Leao.
