Chelsea plan to spend big once again in January so are determined to have a sporting director in place before the transfer window re-opens.
Boehly was responsible for conducting Chelsea’s transfer activity in the summer and was keen to add star quality to the squad in Cristiano Ronaldo.
And the American could appoint Campos to help bring Ronaldo to West London, having clashed with Thomas Tuchel after the former boss rejected the chance to sign the Manchester United forward.
CR7 was keen to leave Manchester United in the summer and his team-mates believe the striker is angling for a January move, SunSport have revealed.

Ronaldo was also said to be keen on joining Chelsea and could lead the line for Graham Potter’s side if he signs in January.
He could be joined in attack by Neymar – a long-term Blues target.
Paris Saint-Germain reportedly offered the Brazilian to Chelsea on deadline day and Campos could make signing the winger a priority if he joins the Blues.
With Campos at the helm Chelsea would see an increased likelihood of landing PSG captain Marquinhos too, having previously been rejected by the defender.

Adding the PSG pair to the squad would likely mean another huge outlay for Boehly – but he has shown he is prepared to spend big.
Last month Gary Neville accused the Chelsea owner of treating the club like he is playing football manager.
Boehly had a scattergun approach in the window and was forced into spending heavily on the likes of Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana after missing out on other transfer targets, such as Jules Kounde. More

Chelsea ‘want highly-rated PSG chief Luis Campos as new director of football to spearhead huge January transfer spree’

Arsenal were linked with hiring the ex-Lille talent spotter in June 2021 following his huge success in Ligue 1.
Meanwhile the ex-Portuguese gaffer held talks with Newcastle last year following their Saudi-backed £300million takeover.
And according to The Times, it is now Chelsea’s turn to try and persuade Campos in swapping France for England.
It has been said that Boehly has already spoken with Campos about him coming to Stamford Bridge to work with new boss Graham Potter.

Bohely is once again looking to splash the cash in January after Chelsea were Europe’s biggest spenders in the summer having forked out £255.3million.
And the American businessman wants Campos to spearhead their spending spree in the winter transfer window.
Campos, who worked alongside Jose Mourinho in 2012 as a scout and tactical analyst for Real Madrid, worked as Monaco’s sporting director from 2013-2016.
In that time, he oversaw key transfer incomings such as Kylian Mbappe, Radamel Falcao, Anthony Martial, Fabinho, Joao Moutinho, James Rodriguez and Bernardo Silva.
    latest chelsea news
His savvy signings saw Monaco win the French top-flight title in 2017 ahead of PSG, and he repeated the same feat when he worked as Lille’s sporting director from 2017-2020.
While with Lille, he signed the likes of Victor Osimhen, Sven Botman, Jonathan David, Rafael Leao and Nicolas Pepe.
His shrewd business there helped Lille win the Ligue 1 title in 2020 once again at the expense of Les Parisiens.
Not only known for an eye in the market, Campos also generated huge profits for Monaco and Lille in player sales.
He managed to offload Mbappe to PSG on an initial loan deal in 2017 with the obligation to sign him for £166m the following year.
And he managed to bring in around £305m during his time with Lille where he flogged the likes of Pepe, Gabriel Magalhaes, Leao, Thiago Mendes and Osimhen. More

Chairman Todd Boehly and his board of directors have been studying business models of other teams.
One area where they can see an opportunity to improve is by spreading Chelsea’s scouting and development tentacles across Europe and eventually beyond.
The medium to long term plan is for Chelsea to buy stakes in continental teams with a view to them becoming ‘feeder’ clubs for the Blues.
From then Chelsea will cherry pick the best young talent from abroad or those emerging through the academy and pack them off to their subsidiary to put their skills to the test.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Premier League champions City have led the way on this and the City Football Group has invested in various clubs globally.
In Europe there are links with Troyes in France, Lommel SK in Belgium, Girona in Spain and Italy’s Palermo.
Elsewhere they have interests with Melbourne FC in Australia, Montevideo City in Uruguay, Yokohama Marinos in Japan’s J-League and New York City FC.
Boehly is keen to copy that and improve upon it as part of his long-range vision to make Chelsea a huge global brand.

They have already been linked with a move for former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards.
Boehly wants a new person to assist in signings and developing the club’s scouting system and is hoping to make an appointment before the start of the World Cup in November.
New head coach Graham Potter will be fully assisting in the process. More

And he was persuaded to make the move to Brighton by Potter.
Gilmour did not want to quit the Blues on deadline day after returning from a dismal loan at Norwich.
And he told pals he only chose the Seagulls because of the way Potter plays.
Gilmour will now wait to see who Brighton bring in as their new boss.

The Seagulls have a four-man shortlist to continue Potter’s great work.
And one of the names on it is Nottingham Forest’s Steve Cooper.
Whether they rate Gilmour like Potter did is unclear for now.
After signing the Scot, he declared: “Billy arrives with a fantastic pedigree, having played in the Premier League and Champions League as well as for Scotland at last year’s Euros.

Chelsea transfer boost as Rafael Leao’s AC Milan future ‘hangs in the balance’ amid £118k-a-week wage demands

CHELSEA have reportedly received a boost in their pursuit of Rafael Leao. That’s because AC Milan are refusing to meet his wage demands for a new contract.

The versatile striker, 23, was a deadline day target for the Blues.
But ex-boss Thomas Tuchel was unable to complete a deal when Milan pointed to Leao’s £127million release clause.
The Italians have since opened talks with their star man over a new long-term deal.
And Chelsea’s chances of returning for Leao in January appeared to be slim.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
However, the Portugal international’s demands are now making Milan think twice about an offer.
Corriere dello Sport claims Leao wants over £6m-a-year to remain at the San Siro.
That works out to around £118,000 each week.
And Leao also wants Milan to contribute towards the £14m he was ordered to pay former club Sporting Lisbon by the Portuguese Super Court for breaching his contract four years ago.

Leao’s incredible demands, and Milan’s reluctance to meet them, has now given fresh hope to Chelsea.
The Blues are entering a new era after Todd Boehly sacked Tuchel and replaced him with Brighton’s Graham Potter.
The tactician is known for his fluid attacking football.
And Leao could be a perfect fit up front despite the presence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Armando Broja.
The ex-Lille ace already has three goals in five Serie A games this term
And his desire for silverware has grown even stronger after firing Milan to the Italian title last season. More

Graham Potter will NOT be sacked if Chelsea miss top four this season as Todd Boehly insists boss there for long term

GRAHAM POTTER will NOT be sacked if he fails to make the top four.Chelsea’s new manager has been told that while Champions League qualification is a massive target this season, it will not be make or break for his job.

Todd Boehly is thought to be hiring Potter as part of a long term planCredit: AP
This is a huge departure from tradition at Chelsea where it has been recognised as the bare minimum to remain in employment.
But new chairman Todd Boehly and his fellow directors are insistent that they are in it for the long term with Potter and that he will be given time.
The former Brighton chief signed a five-year contract worth over £10million a year and has been told he will get full support from Stamford Bridge bigwigs.
Chelsea have finished outside the top four just twice in the last ten years — in 2016 and 2018.

Both times the manager was sacked.
Jose Mourinho was axed in December 2015 when the team was spiralling down the table.
Antonio Conte got the push after falling one place and five points short three years later when he was at loggerheads with the board.
Boehly and his pals want to move away from Chelsea’s reputation for hiring and firing managers. Potter is the club’s sixth since Mourinho was axed just under seven years ago.
    Most read in Football
But he has been taken on to revamp Chelsea’s style of football and to buy into the “long term” project being introduced from above.
Chelsea are currently sixth in the Premier League after a shaky start in which they have lost two and drawn one of their six games.
Potter’s predecessor Thomas Tuchel was sacked on Wednesday morning just hours after an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to Croatian minnows Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
Chelsea were due to face a tough away game at local rivals Fulham today before all football was cancelled due to the death of The Queen.
Potter led his first training session yesterday.
The Blues are currently understood to be preparing as normal for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against RB Salzburg at Stamford Bridge.
Potter, 47, spent Thursday afternoon at Chelsea’s Cobham training base, meeting club staff.
Co-controlling owners Boehly and Behdad Eghbali addressed staff, along with Potter.
Then the coach met his playing squad for the first time yesterday morning at Cobham, before getting down to work on the training field. More

Troy Deeney: Players are gossips… the Chelsea lads will be grilling Cucurella to find out exactly what Potter is like

HOWEVER many times a footballer has seen a change of manager, it is always a period of confusion, uncertainty and excitement.I obviously experienced plenty of managerial changes at Watford and Chelsea’s longer-serving players will be exactly the same.

Troy Deeney gives the lowdown on how Chelsea’s squad will get to grips with their new bossCredit: Getty
When Graham Potter was appointed as Chelsea boss this week, players’ phones will have been going crazy.
The players’ WhatsApp group will have been buzzing and there will have been calls and messages from friends, family, agents and others in the game.
Everyone just wants to know what the new man is like and every player will know others who have played under their new boss and they will be mining them for information.
Players talk and message all the time. We’re gossips. You can bet everyone at Chelsea will have been asking Marc Cucurella about Potter, as he played for their new manager at Brighton last season.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
There are also former Chelsea players at Brighton, such as Tariq Lamptey and on-loan Levi Colwill. They will be inundated with messages.
More than anything, the players will have been desperate to meet the new manager and find out what he is all about — to get rid of that feeling of uncertainty.
And the first two weeks are always crucial.
That’s the length of time a group of players will need to know whether they rate their new boss.
    Most read in Football
So a win or two in that time is always massive because winning disguises any problems that might exist.
There will be a lot of new information about patterns of play, about new training routines.
Players will always want to know their timetables, whether they will have more or less time off — not that those in the Champions League will have much time at all, especially this season.
But if Potter told them to arrive at 9am on his first morning, you can bet that every one of them will be at the training ground by 8.30am.
There’s always a team meeting where the new boss will lay out his philosophy, his rules, the way he will run things — and even if you’ve been through a dozen managers, they are all different.
Potter is bringing his Brighton backroom staff with him, so that’s another four or five individuals for all the Chelsea players to get to know, as they are also key to the mood of a training ground.
Players who haven’t been in the team will see it as a fresh start, a clean slate.
The players’ WhatsApp group will have been buzzing and there will have been calls and messages from friends, family, agents and others in the game.Troy Deeney
While others will be wondering whether they fit into the new man’s way of playing. Potter is such an interesting appointment for Chelsea.
It is a really promising one for English coaches, a lot of whom will have imagined that a job managing one of the ‘Big Six’ would always be beyond them.
Some of the players will feel confused because I don’t think they will have been expecting Thomas Tuchel to be sacked so soon in the new season.
But even those who liked and respected Tuchel will quickly forget about him.
People often don’t like to hear it but football is a cut-throat business and even a manager who has won a European Cup, like Tuchel, is yesterday’s man already.

Deeney hopes Todd Boehly is patient with his managersCredit: Rex
Potter is inheriting Tuchel’s squad which has seen huge investment on the likes of Wesley FofanaCredit: Rex
Some will be sceptical of Potter because he hasn’t got the elite-level CV that most Chelsea managers arrived with at Stamford Bridge.
And Potter will be dealing with a different level of egos to what he has experienced at Brighton and before.
Others will know a lot about his time at Brighton and I think Chelsea’s England players — like Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and Reece James — will recognise a manager with similar methods to Gareth Southgate.
Potter was talked about as Southgate’s natural successor before he got the Chelsea job.
But that will be the last thing on his mind now he has got this amazing opportunity.
He has inherited a squad of players he could only have dreamt about at Brighton and he will be pinching himself, I’m sure.
But he deserves this crack at a big job. I just hope the new ownership, under Todd Boehly, will be a lot more patient with their managers than Roman Abramovich often was.
He has inherited a squad of players he could only have dreamt about at Brighton and he will be pinching himself, I’m sure.Troy Deeney
The fact that Potter has been given a five-year contract is a good indication that they intend to be.
And it helps Potter that Chelsea made so many summer signings.
I think the timing is good for him because he won’t feel like he is inheriting ‘Tuchel’s team’ as such.
There are six new signings who had hardly got used to his predecessor.
Yet it is all about results at a big club.
Potter had some poor runs at Brighton but because expectations were lower, he was able to ride those out.
Supporters may be more difficult to win over than players.
It’s fair to say that Chelsea’s fanbase isn’t the easiest to convince.
Many fans may feel Potter is ‘beneath’ them.

Players are less likely than supporters to turn their noses up at a manager because he isn’t a ‘celebrity’ name.
But they will make their minds up about Potter soon, so those early impressions count — big time. More
