Chelsea in Rafael Leao transfer boost as AC Milan star ‘demands club-record wages to stay at San Siro’

CHELSEA have received a boost in their pursuit of Rafael Leao after the AC Milan star reportedly demanded club-record wages to stay. The forward’s contract runs until 2024 and he has attracted plenty of interest from major European clubs.

The Blues are believed to be particularly keen on the 23-year-old who has gradually emerged as one of football’s most exciting attacking talents.
But Milan will want big money for their star with his valuation being reportedly in the region of £105m.
The power could be shifting back towards Chelsea however as Sky Italia report that the Italian club have a fight on their hands over Leao’s contract.
The Portuguese hitman is reportedly requesting a huge hike in his wages to make him sign an extension.

His change in agent is believed to have complicated the situation for Milan who are keen to tie him down to a long-term deal.
Sky Italia say Leao wants a wage increase from around £7.8m a year to £8.7m a year, money that AC Milan have never paid a player before in their history.
There is also an issue with his former club Sporting Lisbon who are reportedly still owed £16.5m over a contract dispute going back to 2018.
All of this could play into Chelsea hands with the London club linked to Leao for several weeks.

Blues boss Graham Potter struggled to hide his admiration for the ace when asked about him as Chelsea played Stefano Pioli’s side twice in the Champions League group stages.
Potter said: “You can see Leao’s quality and skills, it’s obvious. But he is part of a strong team. We have to respect that [he is under contract].”
Leao signed for Milan in 2019 from Lille and proved to a major part of the team who were crowned Serie A champions last season. More

Chelsea face losing Mason Mount on a FREE in 18 months just like ex-ace Rudiger with contract talks stalling

THIS time next week, Mason Mount will be on a plane with the England squad to the World Cup in Qatar. And as one of our brightest midfielders departs for the greatest shop window in global sport, Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly’s farewell wave could be way more significant than the American billionaire thinks.

Chelsea moved quickly to tie Reece James down to a new contract earlier this yearCredit: GETTY
If things go really well, Mount will not be back on English soil until December 19 — leaving him with just over 18 months left on his Stamford Bridge deal.
Talks are meant to be ongoing about a new one but so far there’s been no noise from the Chelsea boys about tying down one of their own for the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile, his boyhood academy pal Reece James was nailed to the colours with a six-year deal at the start of the season.
And incoming manager Graham Potter was handed a five-year deal by Boehly while sacked Thomas Tuchel was still clearing his desk at the training ground.
    READ MORE IN SPORT
Mount did not have his best game in a Chelsea shirt during Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat against Arsenal.
But he is not alone in that. Three times in the past month he has been Man of the Match for a team struggling to get to grips with the ideas of Potter.
When players head off to major international tournaments they like their head space to be trained only upon the job at hand.
Which means important negotiations between Mount and Chelsea are likely to be mothballed until the turn of the year at the earliest.

If Boehly is not careful, he will stray into Antonio Rudiger territory.
The club and their fans are still smarting from the ludicrous dithering over a new contract, which ended with their best defender and biggest character leaving on a free transfer at the end of last season.
The German went public and admitted that he would have loved to stay in England but when the terms he wanted failed to materialise, he skipped off to Real Madrid.
And his fellow defender Andreas Christensen was also allowed to leave for nothing, landing Chelsea with a major rebuild job on their defence in the summer.
Settling a contract for Mount should be one of the simplest tasks in Boehly’s in-tray.
The boy has blue blood having been at Chelsea since he was six.
Yet maybe that is what’s holding him back?

It’s only when you threaten to leave that many employers suddenly realise your true value to them.
    That’s not exclusive to football.
And it’s not only Mount facing this awkward position under new owners at Chelsea, who consistently trumpet their passion for ‘long-termism’.
Jorginho, currently holding the midfield together in the absence of injured N’Golo Kante, is in an even more uncertain position.
The Italian’s deal expires at the end of this season and there has been total silence so far on progress towards one of the club’s key players signing an extension.
Keeper Edouard Mendy is also in a stand-off with the club as he prepares to head to the Middle East with Senegal.
Mendy will be a free agent next season and there is still no sign of a contract agreement in place.

Potter was talking tactics last week when he admitted that, when trying new things, you must be prepared to look like “an idiot”.
Boehly is not there yet but if he is not careful, history will repeat itself with some of his best players and he won’t look quite the business genius who can make Chelsea great again. More

Arsenal players celebrated their winner against Chelsea around former pal Aubameyang

Defender Gabriel stabbed home from point-blank range to wrap up three points.
And as Arsenal players went off to celebrate with the travelling Gunners fans, they surrounded their former captain Aubameyang, who now plays for Chelsea.
One fan said on Tik Tok: “Aubameyang is one of the most unlikeable football players I’ve ever seen.”
Another said: “Aubameyang wished he was part of the celebration.”

Aubameyang started the game but was unable to make an impact, and he was subbed off for Armando Broja with less than half an hour to go.
In the build-up to the match, a BT Sport promotional video of the Premier League fixture caused quite the stir.
He said: “Arsenal, nothing personal. I’m back. I’m blue. I’m ready. Let’s go.”
Aubameyang, of course, left Arsenal in explosive fashion at the start of the year following a bitter falling out with manager Arteta.

The Gabon striker, 33, joined Barcelona, where he was an instant success.
But following the summer arrival of Ballon d’Or 2021 runner-up Robert Lewandowski, Aubameyang was shipped out of the Camp Nou, returning to London, but the blue side to play for Chelsea – a move that didn’t go down well with Arsenal fans.
Aubameyang made no secret of his opinions on Arteta, saying the Spaniard couldn’t handle big players.
In a viral video, Aubameyang said on Arteta: “Big characters and big players…he [Arteta] can’t deal with it.
“He needs some young players who don’t say anything. They listen.” More

Champions League draw sparks Prem fixture chaos with NO remaining spots for Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Man City games

PREM chiefs were left with a further fixtures headache after the Champions League last 16 draw.League bosses had hoped to be able to catch up some of the outstanding matches postponed in the wake of The Queen’s death in September.

Tottenham’s trip to Manchester City and Liverpool’s visit to Chelsea were both called off over the mourning fortnight.
But with Spurs and Liverpool pooled in the same “half” of the Champions League draw for TV purposes, those matches cannot now be rescheduled until the back end of March.
If Tottenham and City had been paired together, it would have allowed them to play their postponed game at the Etihad in February or early-March.
But the draw means there are now no free weeks until approaching the end of the season.

That’s because their last-16 ties will be played across four weeks, with the Carabao Cup and the possibility of FA Cup replays filling up that period.
At least City’s game against Arsenal, which was postponed so the Gunners could fit in their delayed Europa League tie with PSV, can now be pencilled in for the week starting February 13, with the match due to be screened by Amazon Prime rather than BT Sport.
Manchester United, two fixtures behind, have no vacant dates so far available for their matches against Crystal Palace and Leeds.
This comes after Erik ten Hag’s side could only finish second in their Europa League group, meaning they have two extra games to come against Barcelona in the play-off round.

United needed to beat Real Sociedad by two goals and were on course to do exactly that when Alejandro Garnacho swept home his first professional goal.
But the Red Devils could only match the Spanish club’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford back in September and paid the ultimate price when they were drawn against Barca. More

Chelsea set to promote ex-Arsenal kid Omari Hutchinson to first-team squad after telling him not go on Jamaica duty

OMARI HUTCHINSON could be set for his Chelsea debut on Wednesday after being told not to report for international duty with Jamaica. The wonderkid generated a lot of buzz and excitement when he joined the Blues from Arsenal in the summer.

Hutchinson has already been earning rave reviewsCredit: Rex
The 19-year-old forward is very highly rated and has even been compared to Raheem Sterling.
He hit the headlines last month after scoring a brilliant solo goal to help the Under-21s beat Leyton Orient 3-2.
Now Chelsea supporters could get a chance to see him in first-team action in the Carabao Cup clash with Manchester City on November 9.
Hutchinson, who has represented England at U17 and U19 level, won his first cap for Jamaica back in May.

Now he has been invited to play for them in their upcoming friendly this week against World Cup-bound Cameroon.
However, The Athletic state that Chelsea have informed the teen not to report for duty with Reggae Boys.
And the game against City, which takes place on the same night as the Cameroon match, was an important factor in the Blues’ decision.
Graham Potter, and his opposite number Pep Guardiola, are both set to heavily rotate their squads for the cup showdown.

That is likely to see Hutchinson involved after he was an unused sub in last week’s 4-1 drubbing at Potter’s old club Brighton.
The attacker has scored six times and produced six assists in his 14 appearances in the Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy.
And even though he has been capped by Jamaica, as it was only in a friendly, he still has the option to switch his international allegiance back to England. More

Chelsea could be forced into market for another striker as Aubameyang proves not even Arsenal game can inspire him

CHELSEA could be forced back into the transfer market for another striker if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s form continues. After all, it looked as though not even leading the line against Arsenal could inspire him back to his best.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fired a blank at Stamford BridgeCredit: Rex
In a day Aubameyang was supposed to haunt his old side and manager, he fired a blank after a lacklustre display.
And in truth the former Arsenal captain – who was let go on a free transfer after falling out with Mikel Arteta – never looked like scoring.
He lacked any sort of movement off the ball and rarely made an effort to get involved in the 65 minutes he lasted.
Admittedly the striker – signed from Barcelona in the summer – was not helped much by his attacking colleagues.

But a player of Aubameyang’s experience and quality should be able to turn a game on its head.
His replacement at Stamford Bridge, Armando Broja, 21, immediately showed more ambition than Aubameyang, 33, managed in over an hour.
It also condemned the Gabon star to a fifth Premier League match without a goal.
He was brought in to replace £97.5million man Romelu Lukaku, 29, the latest misfiring Chelsea forward signed for major money.

And although Aubameyang’s £10million fee will not hurt new owner Todd Boehly’s pockets right now, he could end up costing the American down the line.
As if things do not change, Boehly could be forced to improve on the already £300m he spent in his first summer in charge.
Chelsea are set to wait until next season for RB Leipzig’s versatile playermaker Christopher Nkunku, 24, to come into the side.
So new head of recruitment Joe Shields, who only came in last month, might have to get busy drawing up a wishlist ahead of the January sales.

Chelsea one of three clubs leading transfer chase for Endrick as Man Utd fall behind in bid to land Brazilian wonderkid

MANCHESTER UNITED have fallen behind in the transfer race to sign Endrick. The Brazilian wonderkid is being monitored by a number of European heavyweights ahead of a potential transfer.

Such names include financial powerhouses Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, the trio are all “pushing hard” to sign Endrick.
No official bids have been sent to Palmeiras yet, although Romano is reporting a bid will be submitted soon.
The 16-year-old has a release clause worth £52million, but cannot join any club overseas until 2024.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Endrick’s agent Frederico Pena explained the reasoning behind this.
He said: “He has to play for Palmeiras until he turns 18. Consequently, he’ll play at Palmeiras for at least 22 more months.
“Endrick’s contract with Palmeiras runs until July 2025… He can only move abroad from Brazil from July 2024. No player under the age of 18 can move abroad. He can be sold, but he cannot be transferred.
“In other words, a club comes here, they do a deal with Palmeiras. But he can’t leave. He has to stay at Palmeiras even though he’s already been sold.”

Pena also squashed rumours of an agreement with Real Madrid, which had given Man Utd a boost to their own hopes of signing the teenager.
And Endrick fuelled this speculation further by copying the new celebration of Cristiano Ronaldo after scoring a goal during his last game.
Endrick shot to fame in Brazil following a meteoric rise in the Palmeiras academy where he scored a staggering 165 goals. More

Bellingham, 19, is a priority signing for Real Madrid – although Liverpool have taken steps to put themselves in pole position.
According to ESPN, Jurgen Klopp’s side are building a “close relationship” with the midfielder’s representatives.
They add that Liverpool are working hard on a “framework” for the deal.
Bellingham is under contract in Germany for another two-and-a-half years – although Dortmund are likely to let him go either in January or more likely next summer.
    READ MORE ON LIVERPOOL
It is suggested that it could take a fee in the region of £130million to snap up the Three Lions ace.
Liverpool opted against making a big splash in the transfer market for a midfielder last summer – instead choosing to wait for Bellingham.
They decided to keep Naby Keita for the last year of his contract, while signing Arthur Melo on loan.
Spanish paper Marca claim that Real Madrid have received assurances that Bellingham wants to play for them.

But the Spanish champions would not be able to afford the package that Liverpool are putting together.
Chelsea are also set to be in the mix, with Todd Boehly eager to sign Bellingham.
Despite the American’s spending power, however, the Blues find themselves behind in the race at present.
Manchester United have also been mentioned as Bellingham suitors in the past, but are not at the front of the queue. More
