In that time Chelsea have undergone some changes, including a managerial one which has seen Graham Potter reunite with Cucurella after replacing Thomas Tuchel.
Despite this, Cucurella has not hit the ground running in his time at Chelsea and has struggled with hit-and-miss form for the club, though Potter has backed him to improve.
This erratic form saw him miss out on a spot in the Spain squad for the World Cup.
And while the Spaniard will be hoping to give his Chelsea career the jolt it needs when domestic football returns after the World Cup, he has spoken about his dream to one day return to boyhood club Barcelona.

Cucurella progressed through the club’s infamous La Masia academy but only managed one appearance in the senior team before leaving in search of more game opportunities.
Speaking to Catalunya Radio, he said: “I didn’t get the chance to really play for Barcelona and I’ve always been gutted about that.
“In the end, if I had the chance in future, I would value it. It would be very nice.”

Previously, Abraham has been considered “non-transferable” by the Serie A side, but it appears there has been a change in attitude towards the former Blue, according to Calciomercato.
The Italian outlet has reported that the club are open to the idea of cashing in on the striker.
Chelsea are believed to have a buy-back clause in his contract worth £68million, twice the amount Roma paid for him.
However, the report suggests that it is unlikely that a return to Stamford Bridge is on the cards for the 25-year-old.

Villa could be a potential destination for Abraham as the report states: “Aston Villa takes care of it concretely, also because only in the Premier League can they afford an important engagement like Tammy’s”.
Since moving to Italy, Abraham has had mixed success. Last season he scored 28 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions, but this campaign, he has only managed four in 20 games.
It is quite a big drop in form, considering he help Jose Mourinho’s side to the Europa Conference League trophy last season.
This form has seen him drop out of favour from England manager Gareth Southgate as he was omitted from the squad at the World Cup.

Villa manager Unai Emery would be interested in adding more firepower to their squad as Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings have struggled to find the net consistently.
Abraham played for Villa in the 2018/19 season while the club was in the Championship.
During this spell, he excelled as a youngster as he scored 26 goals in 40 appearances. More

Gvardiol, who has 14 caps, moved to Leipzig in 2020 but remained on loan with Dinamo Zagreb for another campaign.
But he has since established himself in the Bundesliga side’s first-team and helped them to reach the Europa League semi-final before they were dumped out by Rangers last term.
He has continued that fine form throughout the current season and has had a host of clubs chasing his services.
Chelsea have held a long-term interest and plotted a swoop for him in the summer.

Juventus have also been keen, while Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester City have also been linked.
Now outlet TuttoJuve are claiming that Timo Werner’s return to the German club from Stamford Bridge could lead to the Blues taking “advantage” due to their good relationship with the Bundesliga outfit.
The report also adds that Juventus are ready to end their interest as they are “unlikely” to even be able to “fight” against Chelsea for his signing.
Gvardiol has already outlined his ambition to play in England – although his dream was to head to Anfield instead of Stamford Bridge.

Boehly is ‘obsessed’ with Bellingham as Chelsea owner targets five major transfers in summer overhaul

CHELSEA co-owner Todd Boehly is believed to be open to another big spend next summer with Jude Bellingham top of his list. The American is said to be “obsessed” with the idea of signing the 19-year-old midfielder, though there is intense competition for his signature.

The Blues’ midfield continues to be a problem for boss Graham Potter, and co-owner Boehly is driving the interest in England and Borussia Dortmund star Bellingham.
Liverpool and Real Madrid are also among the favourites to land the former Birmingham City youngster.
Boehly, however, does also have other areas to focus on.
After a big-spending summer was followed by the axing of Thomas Tuchel earlier this year, the Blues are unlikely to be busy during the January window.

Potter is already planning for the next summer window, with a striker as the top priority.
But while there are other areas in need of investment, Potter and Boehly are both considering an upgrade in goal.
Potter has preferred Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga since moving from Brighton to Stamford Bridge, though the keeper missed the final weeks before the World Cup break due to a foot injury, meaning Edouard Mendy got a chance once again.
Chelsea forked out £22million to sign Mendy from Rennes two years ago after the world record £71million deal for Kepa was deemed to have been a failure.

Kepa has shown improved form under Potter but is still not deemed to be at the world class level Chelsea require to compete at the top of the Premier League and Europe once again.
The former Athletic Bilbao man has been one of the most expensive number twos during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Kepa’s price tag and wage of around £150,000-a-week means he has been hard to move on, meaning the Blues may have to pay him off. The keeper’s contract runs until 2025.
Given the cost of keeping both Kepa and Mendy, Chelsea may be open to seeing both leave at the end of the season.
The Blues have former Fulham keeper Marcus Bettinelli on their books, while in August 18-year-old Gabriel Slonina agreed on a deal to join from Chicago Fire early next year.
Chelsea are close to completing a deal for RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku to join next summer, despite the injury he picked up with France on the eve of the World Cup.
The west Londoners remain keen on AC Milan’s Portuguese forward Rafael Leao, who scored in Portugal’s 3-2 World Cup win over Ghana. More

When he first joined Chelsea, Pulisic was a breath of fresh air to Blues fans and produced a few stunning individual moments of quality.
