Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said that De Jong is “non-transferable”, according to Sport.
But the report suggests that it is a tactic in order to raise his price ahead of a potential sale of the player.
This season, the midfielder has made 17 appearances for Barcelona, scoring twice and assisting one goal.
De Jong is believed to have told Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag that he was happy to move to Old Trafford.

But a move failed to materialise in the summer as the 25-year-old refused to leave the club due to his deferred wages.
De Jong took a pay cut in order to help Barcelona’s financial crisis, and he is still owed £17 million by the La Liga club.
In the summer, United were willing to pay up to £60m for the midfielder but after failing to pull off the move, they opted for Real Madrid star Casemiro.
However, it is thought that United are still very much interested in signing him.

How Chelsea could line up on Prem return against Bournemouth with huge injury crisis and Wesley Fofana out again

CHELSEA return to the Premier League against Bournemouth faced with a major injury crisis. Graham Potter’s Blues host the Cherries next Tuesday in their first match since the winter World Cup.

Croatia’s Mateo Kovacic and Morocco’s Hakim Ziyech were Chelsea’s longest lasting players in Qatar and as a result miss out.
Potter said: “We’re still waiting on Hakim and Mateo.
“They went to the third/fourth place play-off and played the games, so a big demand for those two.
“It’s important to give them a little bit of time. They won’t be available for the game as a consequence.”

On an injury front, Chelsea have a growing list out with N’Golo Kante, Ben Chilwell, Armando Broja, Wesley Fofana and Ruben Loftus-Cheek out.
Reece James and Edouard Mendy are back training but remain doubts for the Bournemouth match.
It means Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga is likely to start in goal having missed the last two league games through injury.
Chelsea have rotated formations under Potter, deploying a back-five and 4-3-3 set up.

Due to Potter’s lack of wing-backs he could be expected to return to a back four.
With James injured, Cesar Azpilicueta would be favourite to start at right-back with Marc Cucurella on the left.
Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly could make up the centre-back pairing but Trevoh Chalobah is an alternate option.
In midfield, Jorginho has trained throughout the World Cup after Italy’s failure to qualify.

He is in line to anchor the midfield alongside the likes of Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher and Denis Zakaria.
Going forward, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are available to start. More

How Santos and Fofana could fit into Graham Potter’s Chelsea side
The young duo would be manager Graham Potter’s first signings since taking over as Chelsea boss in September.
Santos is a midfielder and could be given a chance in the team due to N’Golo Kante’s injury concerns and Jorginho’s current contract issues.
Chelsea are reportedly set to sign him from under the noses of Premier League rivals Manchester City and Newcastle.
Whereas Fofana could be given a chance to shine as a striker at the club.

The 20-year-old underwent a medical with Chelsea on Thursday as an announcement over his arrival is expected soon.
The Ivorian striker has been in impressive form for Molde this season, netting 15 goals in 24 league appearances.
The Blues have struggled in front of goal of late, scoring only four goals in their last seven Premier League fixtures.
To make matters worse, they failed to find the net in each of their last two games.

With the injury to Armando Broja, and the poor form of Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, it would not be beyond the realms of possibility that Fofana would be handed a chance at Stamford Bridge.
The two players would be able to fit into Potter’s current preferred system of a 3-4-2-1.
Santos could slot into the central midfield duo, while Fofana would be able to lead the line as the lone striker.
The duo could also slot in if Potter reverted to a 4-4-2, with Santos again in the midfield duo, while Fofana could be partnered up top with Havertz.
Potter is known for bringing through young players with great success from his time at Brighton.
He brought through stars such as Tariq Lamptey and Moises Caicedo and helped them become Premier League quality players.

‘Bid now’ – Chelsea should target transfer for World Cup winner Martinez after Mendy snubs contract offer, says Cole

CHELSEA legend Joe Cole has urged his former club to make a move for World Cup-winning keeper Emiliano Martinez after Edouard Mendy snubbed a new contract. The Senegalese keeper, 30, earns around £100,000-a-week and wants parity with his Blues rival Kepa Arrizabalaga who picks up almost twice that.
Sources claim Chelsea bosses have even withdrawn their initial offer of a long-term deal as they play hardball with the negotiations — and now there is a stand-off.
And so Chelsea legend Cole has recommended Aston Villa goalkeeper, Martinez, who has just come off the back of a World Cup win with Argentina, should Mendy leave.
Martinez, 30, played a pivotal role in Argentina’s third-ever world title win, saving penalties in shootouts against Holland and finalists France.

The former England international told the All to Play For podcast: “Martinez for me.
“I watched him, he didn’t have that many shots to face because they were so good in front of him, but you know what he is good at?
“Crossing, commanding, and you know he’s connected to his back four.
