Man Utd ‘looking to HIJACK Chelsea’s Malo Gusto transfer as they make contact with Lyon defender’

Chelsea have offered the rising star a contract longer than five years and haven’t been shy with splashing the cash under owner Todd Boehly.
Boehly has signed off on nearly £400million pounds worth of transfers since buying the club with £151m of that coming in this month alone.
However, RMC Sport report that Man Utd are hoping to hijack Chelsea’s move for Gusto and have told the right-back to “not to rush” a decision.
It is not clear whether United would make a late January move or hope that Gusto holds off on a mid-season switch in order to swoop in the summer.

The latter could be more likely if the words of director of football John Murtough are to be believed.
Murtough said at a fans’ forum in December: “While we will be exploring options, I don’t expect it to be a busy January window.
“January is a difficult time to find players that teams are willing to let go.
“It’s no secret that we’re looking for a new centre-forward.

“We’ll see what’s possible in January but we only want to bring in players who are good enough, and who will make the squad stronger.
“We’re not going to sign players for the sake of making signings.
“You also need to remember that we invested over £200million in the squad last summer and, as a club, we need to remain financially disciplined and compliant with FFP rules.
“As always, the main focus remains on the summer window, and we’re already well under way with our planning for next summer.”
United did follow through on their pursuit of a new striker following the bitter departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Old Trafford club made a cost-effective signing by loaning Burnley striker Wout Weghorst. More

Everton are approaching crisis mode as they sit joint-bottom of the Premier League table with Southampton.
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard was sacked by the Toffees on Monday after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham.
But there is also financial trouble brewing at Goodison Park as Everton struggle to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
And the Telegraph claims Chelsea could make bids for both Gordon and Onana before deadline day.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
The pair, both 21, are regarded as key men by Everton’s hierarchy and unsellable.
But Chelsea are prepared to step in with tasty bids while also loaning Gordon and Onana back to the Toffees for the remainder of the campaign.
The Blues remain keen on signing Gordon after having a £60m bid rejected last summer.
Meanwhile, Onana has emerged as a target to boost Graham Potter’s midfield, despite only joining Everton from Lille six months ago.

And Goodison chiefs now face a battle to keep the pair past the end of the season as they look to quickly appoint a new manager.
Chelsea have already signed SIX players this month, with Noni Madueke the latest arrival from PSV Eindhoven.
But Todd Boehly is ready to make it seven after launching a bid for Lyon right-back Malo Gusto.
The American is also keen on Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez.
And the future is looking bright for Chelsea fans after glimpsing some exciting debut performances from attackers Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk. More

Uefa set to change transfer rules after Chelsea’s January transfer spree sparks concern among rival clubs

CHELSEA’S January transfer policy is set to see a change in Uefa rules – to stop clubs manipulating Financial Fair Play regulations. The Stamford Bridge club’s eye-popping £400million spending spree has included handing out unconventional contracts of six, seven and even EIGHT years to signings including Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Mykhailo Mudryk.

Mykhailo Mudryk is the latest big-money arrival, joining for an eye-watering £88million from UkraineCredit: Getty
That means transfer payments for players can be spread over the length of the extended contracts in the Blues’ accounts – a process known as amortisation – meaning just a fraction counts towards the Blues’ FFP allowance each season.
But rival clubs have complained at the loop-hole being exploited.
And now Uefa chiefs are ready to bring in new regulations which will see all future fees calculated over a maximum of five years.
Fifa, which has oversight over all international deals, states that contracts should last for a “maximum” of five years unless a longer deal is “consistent with national laws”.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Premc lubs have that allowance under UK law and Chelsea are among the clubs to have taken advantage.
It does mean that players signed on the longer deals are a “cost” for clubs throughout the contract, meaning they cannot be booked at a full sales price – the normal accounting practice – if they are sold after five seasons.
Uefa, though, is prepared to step in with a new rule from this summer which will cap amortisation over the five year period that applies in most countries.
While there is no threat to the status or calculations over the deals Chelsea have undertaken this season, a similar spending spree in future campaigns would see the FFP cost rise.

That would be in parallel with the new Uefa “cost control” requirements that will see spending pegged to revenues from this year.
In the initial season, clubs will be permitted to spend 90 per cent of income on net transfers and wages, dropping to a new maximum of 70 per cent over three years.
One prominent Uefa source said: “If other clubs start doing the same with eight-year contracts it will be a mess so we need to protect them.
“This is simply shifting a problem to the future.
“Either a club can get stuck with a player on a high salary that they cannot sell, or if they sell him after three or four years they will not realise much profit because a lot of his transfer fee has not been amortised.” More

Chelsea announce Noni Madueke’s shirt number as he takes new team-mate’s top after £35m transfer

CHELSEA have announced Noni Madueke’s shirt number for the season. And the star has taken a new team-mate’s top after completing his £35million Stamford Bridge move.

Madueke, 20, was snapped up by the Blues from PSV Eindhoven last week.
The left-footed right-sider penned an eight-and-a-half year deal in the process.
And Madueke will be hoping to make his debut in next week’s home clash against Fulham.
Should he get the nod from Graham Potter, Chelsea’s sixth signing of the January window will show off his new shirt number.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
It has been confirmed by the Blues that Madueke will wear the No31.
The jersey has been taken off new team-mate Malang Sarr, who is on loan at Monaco.
And the change hints that the French defender is not welcome back at Chelsea this summer, despite playing 21 times last season.
Previous wearers of the shirt include Andreas Christensen, Fikayo Tomori and Rob Green.

But Madueke may yet have his eye on eventually taking the No10 shirt which he wore at PSV.
It is currently occupied by Christian Pulisic, but the American is being tipped to depart Chelsea at the end of the season.
Wearing the No10 would also allow Madueke to emulate hero Eden Hazard, who won two Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge.
Madueke said: “[Blue I most admire?] Eden Hazard, just a ‘get you off your seat’ type of player.
“So exciting in terms of the flair and being able to get people off their seat, create and stuff.
“There’s definitely similarities but I hope to be as good as him some day.” More

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea are now in “direct contact with Lyon” over the 19-year-old.
And Gusto is said to be happy with the details of the long-term contract on offer at Stamford Bridge.
So the Blues have a week left to agree a fee with the Ligue 1 giants.
Gusto would surely be an easier and cheaper option to recruit than Dumfries.

It means Potter could pounce in the final week of the transfer window, having already made six January signings for £189m in total.
Joao Felix on loan, plus Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos and Noni Madueke have come in so far.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has promised to keep backing Potter over his under-achieving players.
And it’s possible the Blues’ spending over two transfer windows could end up close to £500m by the end of the month.
On top of that, Felix’s £10m loan move from Atletico Madrid could become permanent in the summer after a clause in his deal was removed. More

Chelsea could land Joao Felix on permanent transfer at end of season as clause in Atletico star’s loan deal is revealed

CHELSEA’S mega spending spree could include a permanent deal for Joao Felix in the summer – thanks to a clause in his loan move. The Portugal attacker, 23, is under contract at Atletico Madrid until 2027 but will assess his future once his temporary spell at Stamford Bridge ends.

Felix’s six-month switch to the Premier League cost Chelsea a £10million fee and makes him their fourth highest earner on around £250,000 a week.
And The Athletic say his loan deal includes a clause that makes a full transfer possible.
It’s claimed Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes helped engineer the move for the rest of the season to help give the wideman more options for the future.
And no one can doubt Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is backing strong words of support for under-pressure manager Graham Potter with hard cash.

Chelsea’s six January signings so far have cost £189m – with one or two more recruits likely.

Tottenham ‘keen on Maurizio Sarri as they consider replacing Antonio Conte with THIRD former Chelsea manager in 4 years’

TOTTENHAM are considering former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri as a potential replacement for Antonio Conte, reports say. The current Spurs boss has yet to sign a new deal with his contract set to run out at the end of the season.

Conte has appeared frustrated in recent press conferences amid Tottenham’s dodgy run of form in 2023.
It is still not clear if the Italian intends to stay on for another season in North London.
Now, Italian publication Il Messaggero report that the club already have a replacement in mind.
Sarri, currently in charge of Lazio, is believed to be among the frontrunners to replace Conte.

The 64-year-old managed Chelsea in the 2018-19 season, having replaced Conte on that occasion at Stamford Bridge.
He left after one campaign to take charge of Juventus where he would lead the club to their ninth Serie A title in the Covid-hit 2019-20 season.
But he would be sacked just a month later after Juve were dumped out of the Champions League during the delayed knockout tournament in August.
Sarri has bounced back since and is now leading a team Lazio who are fighting for a Champions League spot against Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

Both clubs have been helped by Juventus’ 15 point deduction which appears to have taken the Old Lady out of the running.
If Tottenham were to move for the Italian, he would be the fourth ex-Chelsea boss who would take charge of the club in the last decade and the third since 2019.

Along with Conte, Andre Villas Boas has also made the jump from Stamford Bridge to White Hart Lane in 2012.
While Mourinho took charge of Chelsea twice before landing at Tottenham in 2019.
Sarri had a mixed time at the Blues before being replaced by Frank Lampard.
He led the club to a 3rd-place finish and won the Europa League during his one season in charge.
That campaign also arguably saw Eden Hazard’s best season at Chelsea.
But sizeable sections of the fanbase did not warm to Sarri and criticised the style of play and his use of N’Golo Kante in a more advanced midfield role. More

Chelsea line up late Enzo Fernandez transfer bid worth £60m plus add-ons as Blues test Benfica’s resolve one last time

CHELSEA are preparing one final push to lure Enzo Fernandez from Benfica this month. And SunSport understands the Blues are considering a late bid of around £60million plus add-ons to tempt the Portuguese side into finally selling.

Graham Potter has seen SIX new signings come through the door in the January window alone, costing a total of £189m.
Joao Felix, Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Mykhailo Mudryk, Andrey Santos and Noni Madueke have bolstered the club’s already player-heavy squad.
Including their summer splurge under new owner Todd Boehly, that figure rises to almost £400m.
But a midfielder remains their priority, with World Cup-winning Argentine Fernandez top of their list – despite his £105m release clause.

Benfica have remained stubborn during this window, demanding the clause paid in full for any departure to be accepted for a player contracted until 2027.
Chelsea have attempted to get around this with an offer including instalments – something that was not well received by club president Rui Costa.
But they will resume talks this week, hopeful a bid at the final hour of the window will be too good to turn down.
Fernandez has his heart set on Stamford Bridge after hearing of their interest earlier this month, and will be desperate for the Portugal giants to grant his Premier League wish.

Potter is in need of fresh legs in midfield.
Jorginho and N’Golo Kante could both leave in the summer at the end of their contracts, although the latter could still sign on for longer.
