      The 33-year-old wing-back joined West Brom on loan until the end of the campaign.
      Albrighton has barely featured for Leicester this season, starting just once in the Premier League.
      His switch scuppered Hutchinson’s chance to join the Hawthorns outfit, according to Chelsea writer Simon Phillips.

      Instead the youngster will be staying with the Blues.
      However big-spenders Chelsea, who confirmed the £107million arrival of Enzo Fernandez today, were claimed to have been ready to announce Hutchinson’s loan.
      Hutchinson has played twice for the first-team this season and has also been on the bench a handful of times.
      The exciting talent, who joined from Arsenal last summer, wasn’t the only Chelsea star to see a deadline day move break down.

      Enzo Fernandez broke the British transfer record by joining Chelsea for £107m on deadline day.
      The World Cup-winning Argentina midfielder became the EIGHTH arrival in January alone, following the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix to Stamford Bridge.
      However, despite all of the new additions, fans have been quick to point out one glaring omission to Graham Potter’s squad.
      One wrote: “Gotta admire Chelsea’s transfer policy. Struggling for goals so spunk hundreds of millions on every position but a striker.”

      Another tweeted: “Just buying anyone and still haven’t addressed the fact they have no striker. I’d argue Chelsea’s window was one of the worst ever.”
      A fellow social media user said: “Chelsea still haven’t strengthened in the area they needed to in the shape of a striker. It’s all good throwing money down but there’s no thought process to it.”

      Another commented: “Chelsea did everything but buy a striker. I thought that’s what they needed.”
      Chelsea allowed Romelu Lukaku, who cost £100m from Inter Milan back in 2021, to rejoin the Italian club on a season-long loan last summer.

      They brought in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to replace him, but the Gabonese ace is barely getting a kick under Potter and has only scored three times in 17 outings.
      Fellow summer signing Raheem Sterling is joint-top scorer with six along with Kai Havertz, but most of the Stamford Bridge faithful are still bemused that no traditional No.9 was brought in with the Blues languishing tenth in the top-flight and facing a tough Champions League last-16 clash with Borussia Dortmund.
      Another tweeted: “Easy to forget that Todd Boehly has splurged all of this money, yet Chelsea’s £100mill striker is still out on loan to the same club they paid that figure… Remarkable.”
      While another added: “Chelsea have spent close to a billion and still have Havertz as main striker?”
      Chelsea are next in action when they face Fulham at home on Friday.

      While offering long-term contracts to stagger payments – in accounting terms, over up to eight years will offset the official cost of the deals – Chelsea do have to start shifting some excess players to meet Financial Fair Play regulations.
      And the need to sell will be heightened if Chelsea do not get back into the top four and miss out on the minimum £80m income from TV and gate receipts of reaching the knockout round of next season’s Champions League.
      Chelsea’s January splurge of up to £329.9m, capped by the British record £107m capture of Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez, was on top of the huge summer outlay.
      It meant the Blues spent more last month than ALL the clubs in the other Big Five leagues – Spain, Germany, Italy and France – COMBINED.

      Fernandez’s fee plus salary will add around £19m per year to Chelsea’s outgoings, estimated to bring them to a likely paper “loss” of around £180m in 2022-2023.
      Prem rules limit clubs to losses of £35m per season over three years, with Uefa regulations allowing clubs to lose £26.5m over the same period, set to rise to £90m from next term.

      But accountancy loopholes and “allowable losses” of £30m each year for spending on youth and women’s football and community projects mean Chelsea’s likely figures would still, just, be inside the permitted Prem loss level.
      And while they are on course to bust the Uefa limit by around £22m this season, Euro chiefs only expect around 15 per cent of any fines – PSG had to pay only £8.4m of the £56m punishment levied in September  – to be paid up front if clubs show they are taking steps to address the matter.

      For Chelsea, that would mean selling the players who do not appear to have a future under Graham Potter – and it was notable that all seven of the players signed on full contracts last month were 22 or under.
      Keeper Edouard Mendy, now second choice, summer defensive flop Kalidou Koulibaly, Hakim Ziyech, potentially N’Golo Kante, Marc Cucurella and home-grown midfielders Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are all potential discards.
      Any money raised by the sales of Gallagher or Loftus-Cheek would also see their full fee go straight into the accounts to help balance the “amortised” fees owed for this season’s 15 signed players.
      But without the Champions League income – Chelsea have already banked £82m including gate money this season – the finances will require significant sales.
      It cranks up the pressure on Potter and his new recruits, currently 10 points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United in 10th position, to turn the domestic season round – unless they earn qualification by winning the Champions League.

      He looked all smiles on board the jet with his agent Uriel Perez.
      And it’s expected the midfielder will be officially revealed to Chelsea fans later today.
      But supporters could not contain their excitement as the hour grew closer to Fernandez’s unveiling.

      CHELSEA are set to sign teenage wonderkid Jimmy-Jay Morgan from Southampton – after the transfer window has closed. The Blues have agreed to pay a staggering £6million plus add-ons for the striker born in 2006.

      As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Stamford Bridge club have struck a deal with Saints for the 17-year-old, pipping a host of clubs including Leeds to his signature.
      Morgan is expected to put pen to paper on a three-year in West London after undergoing a medical today.
      The teenager will link up with the Chelsea academy again to continue his development, despite being on the fringes of the Saints first team.
      He first joined the youth set-up aged eight but left for Southampton due to the travel between his home and the club’s Cobham training ground.

      Morgan proved his class in front of goal with 27 strikes for the Southampton Under-16s last season – and a further 13 for the U18s.
      This term he was up to six goals and five assists in 13 youth games.
      Southampton youth coach Louis Carey said the rising star is “one of the best” finishers he had witnessed at the academy.
      New manager Nathan Jones added: “A fantastic player with a bright future if he picks the right choices and people working with him handle him well.”

      Morgan appeared for the Saints’ U21s in the EFL Trophy earlier this season.
      And he was selected in the first-team squads for the Carabao Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday in November and then the FA Cup victory at Crystal Palace last month.
      Morgan is understood to have rejected an offer for a first professional contract at Southampton, where he had 18 months left on his current deal, before leaving for Chelsea.
      He follows in the moves made by goalkeeper Eddie Beach and forward Tyler Dibling, who both moved from Southampton to the Blues last summer – although the latter returned due to homesickness.
      On the international stage, Morgan has a prolific record of six goals in seven games for England U17s – including back-to-back braces against Georgia and Israel in European U17 Championship qualifying.
      The teenage talent becomes Chelsea’s ninth winter signing – and takes the spending by Todd Boehly for the window beyond £330m.
      Almost a third of that went on the £107m British transfer fee paid to Benfica for Enzo Fernandez.
      Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke have also linked up with Graham Potter’s squad.
      Malo Gusto joined from Lyon but has been loaned back for the remainder of the season while Joao Felix arrived on a temporary switch from Atletico Madrid in a bonkers January transfer window.

      Joining from Monaco for £35m, the 21-year-old has looked like a Rolls Royce of a defender next to veteran Thiago Silva.
      Solid on the ball. Imposing in the air. Lots to like.
      Victor Kristiansen – Leicester City
      Leicester have had a turbulent campaign so far and needed to dip into the transfer market.
      And so they looked into the Danish market and came back with a 20-year-old left-back for £17.5m.
      Kristiansen is an impressive Danish youth star, who already had 73 professional appearances to his name for Copenhagen.
      Jorginho – Arsenal
      Arguably the best deal of the January transfer window for just £12m.
      Arsenal couldn’t find a breakthrough in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo and instead pinched one of their rival’s main stars.
      Ex-Chelsea ace Jorginho is a Champions League, Super Cup, Club World Cup and Euro 2020 winner, bringing a wealth of experience to Mikel Arteta’s Prem-topping team.

      He was the young player of the tournament, and helped Lionel Messi complete football.

      It was a club and British transfer record.
      Joao Gomes – Wolves
      Struggling Prem side Wolves were in need of reinforcements under the new leadership of Julen Lopetegui.
      Six players were brought in, but the most impressive is 21-year-old Gomes.
      Joining from Flamengo for £15m, he will look to provide some steely determination alongside an already impressive midfield cohort of Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes and Joao Moutinho.
      Mykhailo Mudryk – Chelsea
      The first Ukrainian wonderkid to end up in the Prem last month, followed by Zabarnyi.
      Mudryk, 22, joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk for £88m.
      His debut was more than impressive at Anfield, nearly breaking the deadlock after a mazy run.
      Cody Gakpo – Liverpool
      One of the World Cup’s stars, scoring three for Holland in their run to the quarter-finals.
      Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV for £45m, and is seen as one of the bargains of the window.
      Racked up a few appearances for Liverpool since joining, but he is yet to find the back of the net.
      Antoine Semenyo – Bournemouth
      Joined from Championship outfit Bristol City for just £10.5m.

      Fernandez wears No24 for Argentina but again star right-back Reece James already has that for the Blues.

      Fortunately for the new man, the No5 shirt is now vacant after Jorginho left in a shock deal to London rivals Arsenal.
      And leaked images online have revealed that is the exact option that Fernandez has gone for.

      Jorginho inherited the jersey from Kurt Zouma, who had taken it off Chelsea legend Michael Essien when he left in 2014.
      Fernandez, 22, had a medical in Lisbon on Tuesday but talks stalled over the payment structure.

      He became Chelsea’s EIGHTH arrival in the January window alone, following the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix to Stamford Bridge.
      Fernandez, Mudryk and Badiashile will all expect to be mainstays in Graham Potter’s team for the foreseeable future.
      And Felix could well join them in Chelsea’s XI next season if his loan move is made permanent.

      How Chelsea could line up next season
      If that is to be the case, the club will almost certainly have an entirely new front three come the start of the 2023/24 campaign compared with the one they fielded at the end of 2022.
      That’s because RB Leipzig and France star Christopher Nkunku has reportedly signed to join Chelsea for £53m in the summer.
      He could be tasked with leading the line, flanked by Mudryk and Felix.
      Fernandez will slot in behind them in midfield.

      And he may be joined by summer targets Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo.
      West Ham skipper Rice, 24, and Brighton star Caicedo, 21, have both been linked with Chelsea and Arsenal.
      But Boehly has shown he is not afraid to splash the cash and could beat the Gunners to the punch.
      That would mean a front SIX consisting entirely of players signed in 2023.

      But in defence there is more chance of stability, with full-backs Ben Chilwell and Reece James expected to keep their places.
      Keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is another set to remain first choice, with Thiago Silva providing the team with an experienced head alongside new boy Badiashile.
      Despite all the money they have spent, Chelsea are in danger of failing to qualify for Europe.
      They are 10th in the Premier League table, but do still have a chance of winning the Champions League as they prepare for a last-16 tie against Borussia Dortmund.
