Chelsea player ratings: Felix shows glimpses of class but lacks finishing touch with Ziyech and Mudryk off the pace

CHELSEA will welcome Borussia Dortmund to Stamford Bridge needing to turn their Champions League fortunes around. Graham Potter’s struggling Blues huffed and puffed but were blown away by a quick counter attack.

Karim Adeyemi’s opener on 63 minutes was enough to separate the sides in the last 16 first leg.
And here, Jack Figg rates Chelsea’s performers in Germany.
    Kepa Arrizabalaga – 6
Down well on 57 minutes to hold onto Brandt’s low effort but could not put off Adeyemi, who rounded him to finish.
The Spaniard had a rather quiet game with Dortmund recording just two shots on target – with one going in.

    Reece James – 6
Produced an excellent surging run on 52 minutes which resulted in a free kick he saw well saved.
Wasn’t able to get forward as much as he would’ve hoped with scorer Adeyemi a constant threat down Dortmund’s left.

    Thiago Silva – 6
Produced a great block on 25 minutes to deny Adeyemi and read the game well.
Worked nicely with Koulibaly and was helpless for Dortmund’s breakaway winner.

    Kalidou Koulibaly – 7
Good overall performance by the outcast centre-back, covering and positioning himself well.
Almost levelled after his effort inside the box beat keeper Gregor Kobel only for Emre Can to clear off the line.

    Ben Chilwell – 6
Linked up well with Mudryk on the left with the pair showing nice chemistry.
Looked a lot more positive down the left than Marc Cucurella has in recent matches.
    Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 5
Partnered Fernandez in the holding pair and struggled to impose his physicality or make impactful runs on the ball.
It still looks as though his best position is still yet to be determined.

    Enzo Fernandez – 6
Proving to be a stellar anchor in Chelsea’s midfield but playing too deep to make an impact in the final third.
Did his best to halt Adeyemi in a one-on-one situation but the winger beat him to open the scoring.
    Mykhailo Mudryk – 5
Twice lost the ball with a needless flicks in the first half but did show quick feet and nice link-up play with Chilwell.
Chelsea will be hoping he gets on the ball a bit more and gets at defenders to create scoring opportunities as he lacked a real threat.
Mykhailo Mudryk struggled to make an impactCredit: Reuters
    Hakim Ziyech – 4
Almost anonymous on the right and looked totally disinterested at times.
Seems the player is still not over his failed deadline day move to PSG and one would question how many more starts he gets under Potter.
    Joao Felix – 6
Linked up well with his wingers and midfielders but did miss a golden chance inside box leaning back from Ziyech’s cutback on half hour mark.
Had another gaping opportunity with seven minutes to go but he struck right into the keeper’s arms.

    Kai Havertz – 4
Looked largely isolated leading the line despite rare cameos with Felix.
He looks more comfortable dropping deep, stressing Chelsea’s need for a true No9.

Chelsea could have star-studded XI of OUTCASTS that would challenge for Premier League title next season including Mount

CHELSEA owner Todd Boehly is creating a squad for the ages, at least in a financial sense. Consequently, with the the Blues’ starting XI being upgraded, the quality of those in reserve has been improved too.
Here’s how Chelsea could line up next season
SunSport have taken a look at three ways Chelsea could line up next season after Neymar was sensationally linked with a summer transfer.
A report earlier today suggested the Boehly has flown to Paris for talks to sign superstar Neymar.
It comes after the 31-year-old had an argument with PSG chief Luis Campos.
And now Chelsea have entered discussions to try and sign the superstar, DESPITE already splashing out an unprecedented £600million on transfers in the last two windows.

In addition, RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku is already set to join the club having undergone a medical in September.
With the pair’s introduction and both liking to play behind the striker, the best way to accommodate them both could be to push Nkunku out wide in support of Joao Felix, whose loan deal at Chelsea could be made permanent in the summer.
Providing N’Golo Kante can remain fit, he will partner British transfer record signing Enzo Fernandez in midfield, while Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Ben Chilwell and Reece James sit in the defence ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Looking beyond the starting XI shows a very strong team of outcasts.

How Chelsea’s star studded reserves could line up
This side would include the likes of Champions League winner Mason Mount and serial Premier League winner Raheem Sterling.
In this hypothetical XI, the two Englishmen would be joined by January signings Noni Madueke and Malo Gusto.
Meanwhile, Champions League final goalscorer Kai Havertz would lead the line while Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibably marshal the centre of defence in front of Edouard Mendy.
Marc Cucurella, Mateo Kovacic and Conor Gallagher would come in to complete the XI ahead of a number of other stars still at the club.
The likes of Trevoh Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Armando Broja, David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos would fill out the rest of the squad alongside a number of academy players.
Among these would be Carney Chukwuemeka, Omari Hutchinson and Gabriel Slonina.
Senior stars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech would also still be at the club, but the trio have all been linked with the exit door at Stamford Bridge in the upcoming summer. More

Three ways Chelsea could line up with Neymar after opening transfer talks – but is PSG star missing piece of puzzle?

CHELSEA are reportedly chasing a stunning deal for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar. But is the Brazilian ace the missing piece of the puzzle for Todd Boehly?
Could Neymar be the missing piece of the puzzle for Chelsea?Credit: Getty

The American is said to have jetted to France for talks with PSG’s owners over a summer deal for their talismanic forward.
Despite turning 31 this month, Neymar remains one of world football’s biggest names.
He has 117 goals in 172 games for PSG, and before his near-£200million move in 2017 he netted 105 times for Barcelona.
Neymar, who has a contract with PSG until 2025, reminded doubters of his worth with some superb performances for Brazil at the World Cup as he played through injury.

And his versatility makes him a great fit for Chelsea’s new-look squad of youngsters.
Graham Potter is tasked with turning the likes of Mkyhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke and Enzo Fernandez into world beaters.
Talented forward Christopher Nkunku is already set to join at the end of the season.
And new star man Joao Felix could make his loan move from Atletico Madrid permanent.

Should Neymar arrive as well, Chelsea could be lining up with a stunning new forward line.
The forward would likely take up a role as a No10 should Potter continue with his latest 4-2-3-1 system.
That would allow Mudryk, Felix and Nkunku to run riot in the higher areas as Neymar pulls the strings.
But the veteran could yet end up leading the line in a 4-2-2-2.
His clever positioning would allow a left-winger like Raheem Sterling to drift inside while he takes up wide positions.
And the system’s fluidity could finally get Chelsea playing the liquid football they crave.
But the Blues have enough depth to revert to a 3-4-3 formation.
And while Neymar could work wonders on the left, he could operate best in the shape as a false 9 as Chelsea’s wing-backs get forward more.

Either way, signing Neymar would surely take the Blues to the next level.
But it remains to be seen if Boehly can finally get his hands on the marquee signing he’s desired since replacing Roman Abramovich last year. More

According to respected French publication Le Parisien, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has flown to Paris to enter negotiations with PSG over a deal.
The French side spent almost £200million to bring him to Paris from Barcelona in 2017 and have the Brazilian under contract until 2025.
Despite now being 31, Neymar would continue to command a sizeable fee.
The report comes days after Neymar confirmed he had been in a row with club chief Luis Campos and team-mate Marquinhos.

The fall-out followed PSG’s 3-1 defeat to Monaco last weekend, with Campos accusing some players of lacking aggression.
However, Neymar and Marquinhos were not willing to take the accusation lying down and subsequently hit back – with the altercation getting heated.
The Brazilian was in action last night but was unable to conjure any magic as PSG fell to a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The forward has excelled in a more central role under Christophe Galtier this season.

He has formed one part of a deadly attacking trident alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
His return has seen him score 17 goals and add 16 assists in 28 games in all competitions this season.
This is despite a well-documented spat behind-the-scenes with Mbappe.

The superstar also came under heat from his neighbours recently after wildly celebrating his 31st birthday.
Just last month Chelsea splashed a British transfer record fee of £107m on Enzo Fernandez.
And it was reported yesterday that Boehly is prepared to move “heaven and earth” in order to try and land Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham – with the English midfielder set to feature against the Blues this evening. More

Man Utd have ‘genuine interest’ in shock transfer swoop for ex-Chelsea star Tammy Abraham if they can’t get Osimhen

MANCHESTER UNITED have “genuine interest” in Tammy Abraham if they cannot land Victor Osimhen, reports claim. The Napoli striker is among Europe’s deadliest forwards and has long been tipped for an Old Trafford move in the summer.

But he is not the only goalscoring talent in Serie A who has impressed.
Former Chelsea hitman Tammy Abraham has re-energised his career after moving to Roma.
While he is not enjoying his best season he remains an important piece of Jose Mourinho’s side.
Caught Offside report that Man United are keeping tabs on the striker as they look for long-term options up-front.

Journalist Ben Jacobs writes: “For Manchester United, the admiration for Abraham is very genuine.
“Ten Hag likes the player. But like Chelsea there are others ahead of him in the queue.
“We know Manchester United love Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, as in fact do Chelsea. Manchester United won’t bill Abraham as a ‘back-up’ to Osimhen, but it’s not a bad way of putting it.”
Previous reports have also claimed Abraham is on United’s radar, but the star has been linked to Arsenal.

Abraham, 25, has already proven capable of scoring in the Premier League with the Englishman netting 15 goals during Frank Lampard’s debut season.
After being turfed out during Thomas Tuchel’s reign, he also adapted quickly to life in Italy and struck 17 league goals during his first season at Roma, with the club winning the inaugural Europa Conference League.
He has only managed six in 22 Serie A game so far this season with Roma sat fourth and battling it out for a Champions League space.
Wout Weghorst was recruited as a stop-gap loan for United until the end of the season amid Anthony Martial’s injury issues and Cristiano Ronaldo’s sudden departure.
But he has so far struggled to shine even with United’s winning form in 2023. More

Chelsea ‘will move heaven and earth to sign Jude Bellingham with Arsenal favourites in Declan Rice transfer race’

CHELSEA will focus their attention on signing Jude Bellingham as they resign themselves to defeat in the race for Declan Rice, according to reports. Arsenal are the frontrunners to sign West Ham star Rice despite his links to Chelsea.

And owing to this Chelsea will instead throw their all into signing Borussia Dortmund star Bellingham.
Indeed, the Telegraph report the Blues owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali will “move heaven and earth” to try and sign the England midfielder.
The report details how the pair were in attendance for England’s clash against Iran at the World Cup, with Bellingham scoring the opening goal in that fixture.
And just over a week later, SunSport revealed how Boehly was “obsessed” about signing Bellingham.

However, there is also said to be a recognition of Chelsea not being frontrunners to sign Bellingham, with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City more likely occupiers of the crown.
The pursuit of Bellingham comes directly after a season which has seen a staggering outlay of £600million, including a British transfer record of £107m spent on Enzo Fernandez.
They will not be finished once they have Bellingham either.
The report adds Chelsea want to sign another midfielder, with Arsenal-linked duo Rice and Moises Caicedo on the radar.

But Aubameyang was among those left out from Graham Potter’s 25-man European squad.
Despite the omission, the striker – signed for £10million from Barcelona in the summer – still trained with the side at a misty training ground.
Aubameyang, 33, was brought in by Thomas Tuchel following their spell together at Dortmund.
But just days later Tuchel was sacked by American owner Todd Boehly with Potter brought in as his replacement.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano states the teenage talent is yet to make a decision on his future ahead of his senior professional debut.
Reports last week suggested Chelsea had made a formal approach with a £15million bid and talks underway – although that initial offer was rejected.
The Blues have spent more than £600million on transfers this season and added Southampton youngster Jimmy-Jay Morgan to their academy set-up this month.
Paez, born in 2007, is making waves in his homeland with Independiente del Valle.

Like Endrick, Paez would need to wait until he is 18 in May 2025 before moving to Europe.
However, he could sign a contract ahead of that to tie himself down to a new club.
