But since then won they have reached just one final, losing 3-2 to Manchester City in 2020.
And their hopes of luring future stars have reportedly been dented by manager Graham Potter’s incredible buying in January.
The under-fire manager brought in Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernández for a £115million British record, plus £88m Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhailo Mudryk.
Six other men also came in, including a £10m loan deal for Atletico Madrid wideman Joao Felix.

And a sixth declared: “Tuchel loves hardworking players. I sense he will offload Gravenberch and recall Sabitzer.”
Sabitzer’s deal with United does not include an option to buy and therefore, it will be up to Bayern and Tuchel to decide if he will be sold.

Mount, 24, is entering the final year of his deal with the club and will be able to leave for free after the 2023/24 season.
But Potter has distanced himself from the decision over the player’s future.
He said: “I have nothing but positive things to say about Mason.
“He has been brilliant, supportive, but it’s between him and the club about how they can sort out the situation.

“It’s about the player, the club… lots of things that I’m not in control of”.
Mount has had a frustrating season for Chelsea, having only scored three times and assisted two goals in the Premier League this season.
Following the decline in his form, the Blues have been reluctant to meet the player’s wage demands that would put him among the squad’s top earners.
According to reports, Chelsea have set a £70million price tag on Mount.

Tuchel and Mount enjoyed a good working relationship while at Chelsea together.
Liverpool and Manchester United have also been linked with interest in the England international.
After the Blues announced losses of £121m in the latest financial year, a mass clearout is expected, with Mount one player touted to lead the exodus.
This clearout could see the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Romelu Lukaku exit the club this summer.
Those six unwanted players’ contracts add up to a staggering £58.5M a year in wages.
Losses of £121m last year make it vital for Todd Boehly to balance the books and keep the Financial Fair Play cops at bay.
The huge wages are referred to as the “Chelsea premium” by club insiders.
Chelsea have run up a bill  that could reach £606m, including add-ons and loan fees, on new players since Boehly led an American takeover last spring. More

Outlet AS report that the two England stars are their top two transfer targets.
Chelsea have a history of losing players to Real Madrid, with the likes of Thibaut Courtois, Antonio Rudiger and Eden Hazard all switching West London for the Spanish capital.
Hazard made the move in 2019 for a fee of £88million and has struggled with persistent injuries since.
The Belgian has only played 73 times for the club, scoring just seven goals.

James has had similar regular injury troubles, missing 18 Chelsea matches this season and the World Cup.
It has led to fans joking that Real Madrid risk making the same mistake by signing an injury prone Premier League star.
One supporter said: “Madrid wants a taste of James’ injury record. I thought they’ve learnt from Hazard.”
Another reacted: “Reece James would play like two games, get injured and then not be seen again until 2028.”

A third added: “Hazard all over again.”
James penned a new deal at Stamford Bridge in September, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2028.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly faces multi-million pound ‘divorce bill’ & could take huge hits on stars like Lukaku & Pulisic

TODD BOEHLY faces a multi-million pound ‘divorce bill’ this summer as he bids to offload a raft of Chelsea players. The club’s policy of paying some of the highest wages in football will make it difficult to persuade stars to move on if it means taking a pay cut.

USA winger Christian Pulisic is tipped to go at the end of this season when he will have 12 months left on his £150,000-a-week deal.
It is unlikely any interested clubs will match his £7.8million-a-year salary.
That will pressure Blues chairman Boehly to pay Pulisic to go or take a lower transfer fee.
It is the same situation with several other players. Callum Hudson-Odoi, on loan at Germans Bayer Leverkusen, has a year left on his contract and makes around £180,000 a week. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, on £150,000 a week, is also about to enter the final year of his deal.

Moroccan Hakim Ziyech is under contract until 2025 but is surplus to requirements, as are his £120,000-a-week wages.
First-choice keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is another set to depart this summer and collects just under £200,000 a week.
He has two years left on his deal and cost Chelsea a world-record fee for a goalkeeper at £71.6m.
The biggest earner is striker Romelu Lukaku — on loan at Inter Milan — with two years left of a £325,000-a-week deal.

Midfielder Mason Mount is also ready but Raheem Sterling is being rested ahead of Tuesday’s game with Liverpool.

But it’s thought the possibility of the two sides meeting in Europe this season remains a stumbling block.
Barry, 36, would of course have inside knowledge on the Blues.

Potter said: “It’s club to club, it’s not for me but I am pretty sure it is in the conversation for obvious reasons.

Chelsea line up shock transfer swoop for Barcelona star Alejandro Balde as Ben Chilwell replacement

The 19-year-old has burst through the ranks at the Spanish team, establishing himself as Xavi Hernandez’s first-choice left-back, ahead of more seasoned campaigners like Jordi Alba.
The teen has even made it into the Spanish national team, impressing with his performances on the international stage.
The Catalans have been hard at work to try and renew Balde’s contract until 2027, with talks reportedly going well with his agent, Jorge Mendes.
Mendes allegedly wants Barça to hand the teen a contract that reflects his performance, possibly with a salary that equals that of Pedri or Ansu Fati, who renewed last year.

However, the Barcelona youngster has also been rumoured to be a target for the Blues as the summer window approaches.
While both Balde and his representative want him to continue at Barcelona, Mendes reportedly warned the Spanish team that there are other competitors in the race for the teen.
According to SPORT, Chelsea are understood to be the most interested in the young star, having previously looked at signing him in 2019.
The Premier League heavyweights are rumoured to be unhappy with their left-back options, Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella.

After being signed from Leicester City for £50m, Chilwell has suffered with injury over the last two seasons, and has only now begun to find his form in matches.
The full-back has also emerged as a transfer target for rival team Manchester City, as a replacement for Joao Cancelo after his falling out with manager Pep Guardiola.
Last year Chelsea manager Graham Potter picked up left-back Cucurella from Brighton with a £60m deal, but the Spaniard initially struggled to settle into the team amid personal problems, and was even booed by his own supporters during one match.
Chilwell’s absences and Cucurella’s struggles have likely led the Blues to look elsewhere for a top-level specialist on the field, and Balde would fit the bill.
And having previously spent large sums in securing these players, Blues owner Todd Boehly would be unlikely to balk at forking out on Balde if needed.
Balde publicly left his future open a few weeks ago, giving Chelsea hope that they might be able to snatch him from Barcelona.

Tuchel, 49, guided Chelsea to Champions League glory in 2021, and also enjoyed domestic success with Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
He has been out of work since being sacked by new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly in September – a decision which infuriated supporters at the time as he was replaced by Graham Potter.
Now he has revealed the true extent of how brutal his departure was from the West London club after losing 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League group stages.
Tuchel, who also guided the Blues to UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup success as well as reaching the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals last season, said: “It was a shock.

“I felt it, strangely, when I drove to the training centre. The meeting we had felt unusual – and it turned out to be a very short meeting. It was 8am, or something, and it lasted three to five minutes. I was also not in the mood to talk longer.
“The decision had been made and, honestly, it was a shock for all of us. We had a feeling that we were in the right spot at the right time. We felt that we could achieve big things and we wanted to stay longer – it was as simple as that.
“We had big relationships, huge relationships within the staff. We still do. How long did it take me to get over? It still hurts in a way – I’m not able to see these people on a daily basis. I love this job: I have a passion for it, I can tell you.
“We built an extraordinary bond in the circumstances. We started there during Covid, during Brexit – then came the change of ownership. We were a strong, strong group. It wasn’t in my hands to take this decision. I was no longer part of this group, a group that felt like a family.”

When asked about rumours that he had lost the dressing-room, he replied: “I still have a good bond with the players. We still text, there are many messages. I have found many friends at the Chelsea training centre.
“This will not end because of a new job. It will be difficult to keep in touch and see each other but the friendships will stay.”
Upon reading the comments from Tuchel, Chelsea fans quickly took to Twitter to vent their fury at how he was treated.
One wrote: “Shabby way to treat him after all he won at the club. Now look at them. Glad he’s landed a massive job. Onwards.”
Another said: “The biggest mistake was ever in Chelsea history was the sacking of Thomas Tuchel.”
A fellow fan commented: “Biggest mistake of the Boehly era…so far. Much love Tuchs.”
As another tweeted: “We fumbled this one.” More
