Chelsea transfer target ‘Gavi has CONFIRMED his summer plans after chat with Barcelona chief’

CHELSEA transfer target Gavi has confirmed his future plans, according to reports. And it is bad news for the Blues in their pursuit of the Spanish sensation.
Gavi is one of the best young players in world footballCredit: Getty
Gavi, 18, is already a key member of the Barcelona squad set to win LaLiga this season.
But an ongoing contract issue thanks to Barca’s salary cap limit meant his first-team registration was cancelled and forced him to revert to his old Juvenil A youth deal.
That could have made him available when the transfer window reopened, possibly even on a free.
Chelsea are even said to have made contact and met with the player and his family to discuss a move.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also been monitoring the situation.
But Sport report Gavi sat down with Xavi and told them the Barcelona boss wants to stay put at the Nou Camp.
Xavi apparently reassured the youngster he “cannot imagine his midfield without Gavi” in their private conversation.
And despite ongoing issues with the contract saga, the midfielder is said to be fully committed to the cause.

Barcelona’s director of football Mateu said earlier in April: “Gavi renewed at the time for four seasons and he has three more to go.
“For sure he’s going to honour his contract. What’s more, we are convinced that not only will he fulfil his contract, he is going to finish his career at Barcelona.
“That’s what he wants, what our fans want and what we want.
“We have absolute peace of mind. The player renewed, we are going to register him for sure, and for our part there is no problem.”
Gavi joined Barcelona aged 11 in 2015 after spells with La Liara and Real Betis.
The midfielder made his first-team debut in 2021 and has racked up four goals in 89 appearances.
He already has 19 senior Spain caps, with the third of his three goals coming in the 7-0 thrashing of Costa Rice in Qatar to become his nation’s youngest World Cup scorer.
Gavi proved his incredible talent by being crowned Kopa Trophy winner and the Golden Boy in 2022 after his breakthrough season. More

Ex-Premier League manager explains why Pochettino should pick Chelsea over Tottenham ‘if he’s got any sense’

MAURICIO POCHETTINO should choose Chelsea over former club Tottenham, according to Neil Warnock.Under interim boss Cristian Stellini, Spurs were thrashed 6-1 by Newcastle on Sunday – conceding five goals in the opening 21 minutes.

Stellini was relieved of his duties on Monday as Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy axed the Italian, 48, after just three games in charge.
Ryan Mason will now take over until the end of the season as Tottenham seek a new permanent head coach.
And Pochettino has been linked with a return to North London, three and a half years after being dismissed by the club.
But Chelsea are also on the hunt for a new manager and are reportedly closing in on making the Argentine, 51, the permanent successor to Graham Potter.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
And while Spurs sit fifth in the Premier League table – 14 points ahead of Chelsea in 11th – Warnock still believes the Blues would be the better option for Pochettino.
Speaking on talkSPORT about Spurs’ capitulation against Newcastle, he said: “I’m thinking, I’ve never seen anything like it. I couldn’t believe it. No disrespect, but you can’t put somebody like that [Stellini] in charge.
“I remember when [Antonio] Conte left and I said, ‘You mark my words – you have a listen at what he said – that dressing room’s gotta be decimated. Gotta be gutted’.
“I wouldn’t envy anybody coming in there now. If Pochettino’s got any sense he’d go to Chelsea [because] all they need is a centre-forward.”

Pochettino secured Spurs Champions League qualification four years in a row between 2015 and 2019.
And Tottenham finished runners-up in the Premier League in the 2016/17 season – behind champions Chelsea.
Poch also guided Spurs to the 2019 Champions League final where they were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool.
He was sacked by Levy in November 2019 after five years at the helm – with Tottenham sitting 14th in the Premier League table at the time of his departure.
He went on to manage Paris Saint-Germain for 19 months, claiming the Ligue 1 title before being sacked at the end of last season.
The ex-Espanyol and Southampton head coach has been out of work since then, with Manchester United opting to appoint Erik ten Hag ahead of him last summer. More

And the ex-Tottenham boss, 51, believes he can transform the struggling Blues into Prem title contenders next season.
He is likely to bring long-serving assistants Jesus Perez, Toni Jiminez plus sports scientist son Sebastiano with him to the club.
However, to achieve this it is thought that he would look to trim down the swollen Chelsea squad that boasts over 30 players.
Here are five players that could be sold this summer in order to fund moves for Pochettino’s targets.

    Raheem Sterling

The England international has failed to live up to the hype following his move from Manchester City last summer.
The winger has netted seven times in 32 Premier League appearances this season.
Sterling cost the Blues £50million and it is thought he would not have his wage cut should the club fail to qualify for European football next season.

Expectations were high for Cucurella after the club finally signed him from the Seagulls for £62m.
However, he has failed to cement himself as the club’s first-choice left-wing-back, having only made 24 appearances in the Premier League.
    Mason Mount

The Cobham Academy graduate has been a club star over the last couple of seasons, but like many, his form has dropped this year.
Mount is also set to enter the last year of his contract, and if he does not extend terms, then he could be set for the chopping block before he can walk away for nothing.
Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have all been touted to have an interest in the England midfielder.
    Christian Pulisic

The American forward is another player who has had a reduced role this season as he has only made 21 appearances in the league.
And he has not been effective when he has been on the pitch, scoring only one goal.
He has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich following the appointment of former manager Thomas Tuchel
    Edouard Mendy

Mendy has found himself playing second fiddle to Kepa Arrizabalaga this season.

The Senegalese goalkeeper has only made 11 appearances in all competitions this season and is keen for more game time.
Mendy was recently reported to have been told he can leave the club this summer after he snubbed a new six-year contract over the salary offered – which did not rival Kepa’s. More

Interim boss Frank Lampard will remain for tomorrow’s home clash with Brentford.
But Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has held extensive talks with Pochettino about becoming the FIFTH manager since the American billionaire took over last summer.

Some Tottenham fans will be angry if he takes over at their rivals.

Pochettino’s reputation of developing young players, forward-thinking coaching, attractive style of play and communication is an attractive option for Chelsea, who need someone to sort out a huge, talented squad – but needs trimming.
He took Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League final, but the strength of Chelsea’s squad and Boehly’s spending power could provide him with the foundations to win his first trophy in English football.
Lampard took charge of the Blues after they sacked Potter at the start of April, but has lost all four of his games in charge.
Pochettino managed Spurs for five years from 2014 and led them to the 2019 Champions League final, which they lost to Liverpool.
He was sacked by Tottenham in November 2019 after they made a disappointing start to the following campaign and were 14th in the Premier League at the time of his departure.
During his time with Spurs, he also guided them to the League Cup final in 2015 and a Premier League runners-up spot in 2016-17, with his side missing out on winning both to Chelsea.

The Brazil international is still among the Parisians’ top earners but could be on his way out, even though his contract runs until 2025.
According to The Mirror, that is because the 31-year-old has undergone another season blighted by injury as he is currently sidelined for the rest of the campaign after shattering his ankle.
Neymar’s future is therefore uncertain with PSG set to take a new direction that will see them pulling the plug on high-profile deals.
That could see Chelsea reignite their interest after owner Todd Boehly held a meeting earlier this year to check on the Brazilian’s availability.

The Blues could make another approach in the coming summer transfer window.
Reports suggest there is at least one more Premier League club also keeping tabs on the Barcelona hero.
But Neymar is not expected to have many options if he leaves the reigning French champions due to his high salary, release clause, injury record and advanced age.
But PSG are also facing the prospect of losing Lionel Messi as well as Kylian Mbappe this summer.

PSG are set for an new approach that will see them signing the best French talents and promoting their standout youth products from their state-of-the-art academy.
That could also see Mbappe moving away as his lucrative deal comes up next year, with an option to extend until 2025.
The star striker came close to joining Real Madrid in 2021 and the same drama could unfold in 2024.
That is unless the France international accepts the option to extend or the club manages to sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free. More
