Chelsea fans just realising forgotten ace who hasn’t played in five-and-a-half years is now their longest serving player

CHELSEA fans are just realising that a forgotten star is now their longest serving player. It’s been a period of upheaval since Todd Boehly’s takeover last year with a number of players coming and going.

This summer alone 11 players have left the club – with the team also trying to ship out wantaway stars such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku.
And with Cesar Azpilicueta leaving the club after 11 years of service, Chelsea now have a surprise longest serving player in Ethan Ampadu.
The Chelsea academy graduate made his full debut in 2017 when he came off the bench in a Premier League game against Huddersfield.
Ampadu was just 16 at the time and was thought to be one of the next big things at Chelsea.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Then manager Maurizio Sarri even dubbed the defender as “the future of Chelsea”.
Since his debut, Ampadu hasn’t featured again in the Premier League and has found himself regularly out on loan.
He last made an appearance for the Chelsea first team in 2018 and has since then enjoyed loan spells at RB Leipzig, Sheffield United, and Serie A sides Venezia and Spezia – although he has suffered three successive relegations while out on temporary moves.
Chelsea fans on Twitter expressed their surprise at the news that Ampadu is now their longest serving player.

One said: “Has he worn the shirt for anything else than pre season promo pictures”
Another wrote: “How is he still only 22?”
While a third added: “Deserves a chance in my opinion.”
The Evening Standard report that coach Mauricio Pochettino does not see a future for Ampadu at Chelsea and will make him train with Carlo Cudicini’s ‘loan squad’.
Cudicini is overseeing the training of the club’s Under-21s and wantaway players such as Lukaku.
If the club were to find a move for Ampadu this summer, their longest serving player would become Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has been at the club since August 2018.
The club’s next longest serving player is Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest and Saudi Arabia. More

Chelsea fans no longer want Paulo Dybala transfer after finding out which other playmaker they are linked with

CHELSEA fans have called on the club to sign Lyon forward Rayan Cherki ahead of Roma man Paulo Dybala.Dybala, 29, is being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer – with Blues centre-back Thiago Silva revealing he begged the Argentine to join him in West London.

Rayan Cherki could be set for a move to Stamford Bridge this summer
But ESPN are now reporting Lyon star Cherki, 19, is another Chelsea target.
Paris Saint-Germain saw a bid rejected for the Frenchman back in January.
However, Lyon are understood to be open to a sale as they bid to offload players this summer in order to keep within Financial Fair Play regulations.
And Chelsea have a good relationship with the Ligue 1 club as they signed Malo Gusto from them in the January window.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Cherki, who has a contract with Lyon until 2025, contributed four goals and six assists in 21 league matches last season.
He also impressed at the Under-21 European Championships for France – where they were eliminated in the quarter-finals – with Chelsea scouts in attendance to watch the versatile playmaker.
Cherki, who would set Chelsea back in the region of £34million, can play on either flank, as a No10, or even a false nine.
And Blues supporters are far more keen on him compared with Dybala.

When comparing the two, one social media user said: “This isn’t even a debate. One is 19, one is 30. It’s definitely Cherki. Besides maybe we get both 🤷🏻‍♂️.”
Another added: “Cherki without any second thoughts. Younger and maybe has the higher ceiling. His injury record is far more impressive, and his age will again be beneficial to us because he’ll get to play and build a long-term chemistry with our youngsters.”
While a third replied: “Give me Cherki. Don’t want a player that’s being shipped around everywhere and living on past hype.”
Chelsea have signed a number of young players since Todd Boehly’s takeover including the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez, Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke.
But they have seen a host of players leave this summer such as Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, N’Golo Kante and Cesar Azpilicueta.
New manager Mauricio Pochettino is overseeing mass change among personnel as he attempts to turn around the club’s fortunes following their 12th place finish in the Premier League last season. More

So the likes of Mudryk, Raheem Sterling and Enzo Fernandez must now step up to the plate.

Every Premier League squad’s value revealed with Arsenal biggest winners and Man Utd’s transfer failures highlighted

ARSENAL have increased the value of their squad more than any other Premier League club.Mikel Arteta’s side narrowly missed out on the title last season, falling away towards the end of the campaign as Manchester City clinched a fifth crown in six years.

Chelsea’s squad has decreased significantly in value since the players were signedCredit: Reuters
But it should not go unnoticed how much the Spaniard has improved his Gunners side – who finished fifth in 2021/22.
And that has been shown through stats provided by Transfermarkt.
Arsenal’s squad has cost £572million to assemble, with their current market value standing at £915m.
That is an increase of £343m – £100m more than any other side in the division.

How each Premier League team’s squad has changed in value
Liverpool and Man City have also seen their squads improve in value since they purchased their players – by £154m and £150m respectively – with Pep Guardiola the only head coach boasting a set of players valued in excess of £1bn.
Tottenham can also say they have marginally increased their squad’s worth by £43m.
But at the other end of the scale come Chelsea and Manchester United.
Todd Boehly’s £600m cash splash since arriving at Stamford Bridge 12 months ago has done little to improve the squad.

And it has seen them drop to the bottom of the table when it comes to the value of their players compared to how much they arrived for.
The West London club have spent £880m on their star-studded roster – more than any other team – with their value standing at £756m.
That sees them pip Man Utd to the unwanted 20th place with a net loss of £-124m.
Erik ten Hag’s men also hold a negative value of their squad at £-115m.
Chelsea and United are two of just four clubs with a negative transfer value – along with Sheffield United and Wolves.
Meanwhile, the other big winners from the list are Brighton – who hold a £243m squad value increase having developed the likes of Evan Ferguson, Moises Caicedo, Julio Enciso, Pervis Estupinan, Kaoru Mitoma and Solly March.
Brentford, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest have also increased their squad’s value by between £81m and £179m. More

But after a leaked image started doing the rounds on Twitter yesterday, fans put two and two together and realised some former stars had been airbrushed from the campaign.
The behind the scenes picture showed a number of ex and current Chelsea players posing with fans on a sofa.
And among the now ex-Chelsea players were Kai Havertz and Cesar Azpilicueta.
Former Chelsea captain Azpilicueta took particular prominence in the shoot, stood front and centre of the photo with his arms folded.

The Spaniard completed a move to Atletico Madrid last week, with the club agreeing to let him go on a free transfer after 11 years of service at the club.

Havertz departed Chelsea to join London rivals Arsenal in June in a £65m deal.

Some eagle-eyed fans also pointed to the fact that Trevoh Chalobah appears in the original photo but did not make the final edit of the pictures – raising questions over his future.
But a picture featuring Chalobah has since been shared on the club’s Instagram page.
The kit launch also saw Chelsea become the first ‘big six’ team to release a shirt without a sponsor in the Premier League era.
The club have have so far failed to attract a front of shirt sponsor they deem financially lucrative enough – after their £40million-a-year deal with phone company Three ran out.
Todd Boehly had negotiated a deal with streaming service Paramount+ but it was blocked by the Premier League.
The club then entered negotiations with gambling company stake but a deal fell through after fan backlash.
With the kit not available to purchase until August 16 it is likely that the new shirt will not be released without a sponsor.
The club warned: “Fans should be aware that the 2023-24 home kit that features on pitch may subsequently feature a front-of-shirt partner.” More
