Chelsea and Liverpool ‘looking to raid Southampton’s £40m midfielder Romeo Lavia’ after relegation to Championship

CHELSEA and Liverpool are both reportedly preparing to battle it out for Southampton star Romeo Lavia. The 19-year-old joined the Saints from Manchester City last summer for £14million.

The midfielder has shone on the South Coast during his 33 appearances despite Southampton being relegated from the Premier League.
Those displays also brought international recognition with Lavia winning his first Belgian cap earlier this year.
With Euro 2024 on the horizon, Lavia is unlikely to want to drop down into the Championship with Saints and seems one of the players certain to leave St Mary’s once the transfer window re-opens.
The Times claim that Southampton see him as “their most valuable asset” as they plot a rebuild and are likely to demand at least £40m for him.

And they also state that both Chelsea and Liverpool are in the running to sign him.
However, despite a clause that says he can be brought back to the Etihad if Man City match any bid made for him, his former club are not believed to be keen.
Jurgen Klopp is planning his own overhaul at Liverpool over the coming months with long-serving stars such as James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain due to depart Anfield with replacements needed.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s director of recruitment Joe Shields signed Lavia for Southampton before he made the switch to Stamford Bridge.

And this update claims he is after the ace again – although he has allegedly struggled to convince everyone at the club to make the move.
Chelsea reportedly sent scouts to watch Lavia against Brighton last weekend but the final decision is likely to come down to incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino. More

Fuming Chelsea fans tell Levi Colwill ‘delete this’ after post following parent club’s defeat to Man Utd

CHELSEA supporters have advised Levi Colwill to delete a social media photo he posted in the aftermath of the club’s defeat at Manchester United. The Blues were thumped 4-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday as it was confirmed they have suffered their worst season in almost two decades.

That was an eighth defeat in 10 for interim manager Frank Lampard and means they will finish in the bottom half of the table despite spending £600m across two transfer windows.
Four different men have occupied the Stamford Bridge hot seat during Todd Boehly’s debut season as co-owner, which will end with Chelsea earning their lowest Premier League points total in modern history.
That has led to the club taking the decision to bin their in-person awards evening.
However, two of Chelsea’s academy starlets are celebrating after a successful loan spell at Brighton.

Colwill, 20, joined the Seagulls on loan at the beginning of the season and has thrived under Roberto De Zerbi.
He has made 23 appearances in all competitions and is allegedly a player identified by Mauricio Pochettino as someone he wants to build his future Chelsea team around.
The centre-back and midfielder Billy Gilmour, also on loan at Brighton from the Blues, both played as the South Coast side confirmed Europa League football next term with a 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Wednesday.
A fan tweeted Colwill last night as his parent club were being thrashed at United asking: “How’s your evening going?”

The ace replied with a picture of himself and Gilmour, 21, all smiles and the word: “Brilliant!!!!!”
But while some Chelsea supporters begged him to return and “save them”, others advised him that he may want to take down the post amid the Blues’ latest dismal setback.
    One wrote: “Delete this.”
Another said: “Nah that’s a violation.”
As another commented: “This is the same feeling as when your crush tells you “you’re just like a brother to me.”
It comes after Colwill forgot he was still a Blues player after helping Brighton clinch Europa League football.
The ace, who has been linked with a move to Manchester City or Liverpool, had to be reminded he would be returning to the Blues when speaking to The Athletic.
“I forgot for a minute,” he said after remembering he was heading back to Chelsea in the coming months.
And he could not speak more glowingly about the set-up at the Amex.
Colwill, who is under contract until 2025, added: “Amazing. When Roberto came in [last September], he just changed things.
“His mentality as a manager is world class and he is definitely going to be one of the best managers in the world — if he’s not already.

Felix was allowed to leave Atletico after he was believed to have fallen out with manager Diego Simeone.
It is thought that the relationship between Felix and the Argentine became so tense that it had “broken”.
Despite a turbulent start that saw Felix sent off against Fulham, he has been one bright spark for the club during their appalling second half of the season.
The forward has netted four goals in 15 appearances in the Premier League.

But more than his goals, the 23-year-old has proved to be a threat against the league’s defences.
Felix even managed to grab a great solo goal during the defeat to Manchester United as he carried the ball from the halfway line before slotting home.
But pundit and former United star Neville is amazed that Chelsea do not have the option to buy him this summer.
He said during commentary of the game at Old Trafford: “They’ve signed everyone but the one player they should have an option to buy on they haven’t got.”

Felix has hinted at a desire to stay at the club beyond his loan move as he lifted his shirt after scoring against Bournemouth.
And the club have been linked with trying to purchase him in the summer.
However, in a move to get the price down, there are reports suggesting that Chelsea will offer players as part of a swap deal.
But as it currently stands, Felix will return to Spain at the end of the season.
The Blues squad currently boasts 32 player and the new manager, believed to be Mauricio Pochettio, will have a say over trimming it down in the summer.
Stars such as Mateo Kovacic, Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Edouard Mendy, Hakim Ziyech, Conor Gallagher and Kalidou Koulibaly could all be sold. More

Caicedo had been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the January transfer window, but Brighton clung onto their man.
He then penned a new deal to keep him on the South Coast until 2027.

But he is still expected to leave Brighton at the end of the season as both Chelsea and Arsenal circle for his signature.
And Blues supporters believe they are in pole position to acquire him after his Instagram live from the changing room following Brighton’s draw with Man City.

Caicedo filmed himself as fans poured in to offer their congratulations amid Brighton’s Europa League qualification.
Among them was Chelsea director Joe Shields – who sent the South American two clapping emojis.
That has sent some of the club’s die-hard fans into meltdown on social media.

Another added: “This is such an obvious signing.”
    A third replied: “HE’S COMINGGGGGG.”
And a fourth responded: “All i’m saying is hear me out,my guy Joe Shields is on a mission 😭🙌🏼.”
Brighton rejected a bid of £70million from Arsenal in January, leading many to believe they will command an even bigger transfer fee in the summer.
Meanwhile, Caicedo and Co celebrated their Europa League qualification by jumping up and down and singing in the dressing room.
An Instagram clip shared by the club showed manager Roberto De Zerbi conducting the scenes after another impressive display.
But the Italian head coach, 43, is realistic about those in his squad potentially departing in the coming months.
Speaking earlier this week when asked if the Man City clash would be Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister’s final home games, he said: “It can be.
“They can have the possibility to change as they deserve to play at another level but now we can offer them the possibility to play in Europe.
“Our level is bigger now. I think it can help.
“The Europa Conference League is a very nice competition but everybody can see the Europa is more important.
“I don’t know if they can change. They will have more motivation but they are very good guys.

Mason Mount ‘leaning towards Man Utd transfer’ with star set to snub Arsenal and Liverpool if Chelsea sell

The Athletic report Mount is “leaning” towards an Old Trafford move, with talks between Chelsea and Man Utd set to commence in due course.
Rival suitors Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich are also said to be aware of the England International’s preference.
Mount has been stalling on a new contract with his deal at Stamford Bridge set to expire next season.
Ahead of Chelsea’s Thursday trip to Old Trafford to face the Red Devils, Blues boss Frank Lampard remained coy when speaking on Mount’s future.

Incoming Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino reportedly wants Mount as part of his project going forward.
Chelsea hopes this will help to convince the Cobham Academy graduate that his future lies in West London.

Despite United’s interest, the ongoing ownership saga will need to be resolved before a deal can be put tangibly put into place.
Mount is also far from the top of United’s priority list, with a new striker and central defender the most pressing issues for Erik ten Hag’s squad.
The creative midfielder has struggled with both fitness and form this campaign.
Indeed, just three goals and two assists in the Premier League – while adding four assists in the Champions League – is far from Mount’s usual highs.
His best goal-involvement return in a single season at Stamford Bridge came in the 2021/22 season when he struck 13 goals and added 16 assists.

And, having won just one of their last 10 games, a dismal season could finish on an even lower note with clashes against top four Manchester United and Newcastle to finish the campaign.
As a result of the poor campaign, co-owner Boehly has decided to spend less time running the club, according to the Daily Mail.
The report states that over the last eight months, the American has been using 50 per cent of his time working at the club.
However, that will now be cut down to 20 per cent with appointed executives taking over.

Boehly will be using his time to work on his other business commitments, such as the Los Angeles Lakers basketball and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball teams.
He led the £4.25billion purchase of Chelsea last year as his consortium and private equity firm Clearlake Capital took over the Stamford Bridge side from Roman Abramovich.
The UK had sanctioned the Russian billionaire after his nation invaded Ukraine.
Once the purchase was completed, Bloomberg reported that Boehly was spending half his time overseeing the day-to-day running of the club.

However, in January, he stepped down as the as interim sporting director with the aim of slowly relinquishing responsibility to executives that were bedding in.
The 49-year-old helped the club to an unprecedented spend on the transfer market as stars such as Enzo Fernandez, Wesley Fofana, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Marc Cucurella and Raheem Sterling arrived at the club.
But, despite spending upwards of £600m, it could not help push the club back up the Premier League table, with a bottom-half finish confirmed.
The results on the pitch have seen managers Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter be axed from the club, with Frank Lampard taking over as interim boss until the end of the season.

Lampard is expected to be replaced by former Tottenham and PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the campaign.
The Blues have also frozen their men’s season ticket prices for a 12th straight year, with the announcement accompanied by a statement acknowledging the season’s disappointment.
