Chelsea on verge of spending £906MILLION on transfers under Todd Boehly but fans say ’12th position still awaits’

TODD BOEHLY is on the brink of taking his Chelsea spending on transfers to a staggering £906.8million. But fans joked that the mega-money side are still set for another poor season.

Boehly bought Chelsea for £4.25billion in May 2022 and wasted no time splashing the cash on new transfers when the window opened.
Nine players signed permanent deals at Stamford Bridge with a further eight stars arriving in West London in January.

And the outrageous spending spree shows no signs of slowing down with another nine new faces confirmed this summer – plus Moises Caicedo will be announced very soon.
The Caicedo deal sees the Blues pay Brighton an eye-watering £115m, a new British transfer record fee.

That eclipses their own record set in January when they paid Benfica £106m for Enzo Fernandez, although the deal could rise to £110m with add-ons.
The other biggest arrivals over the last year are Raheem Sterling (£47.5m), Marc Cucurella (£62m), Wesley Fofana (£75m), Mykhailo Mudryk (£88m) and Christopher Nkunku (£56m) – again taking into consideration possible extras to supplement the initial costs.
Kalidou Koulibaly, Benoit Badiashile and Noni Madueke all cost £35m with Malo Gusto (£30.7m), Nicolas Jackson (£30m) and debutant goalscorer Axel Disasi (£38m) also joining for big money.
The Blues spent £25m on new goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from Brighton with Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga both leaving through the exit door.

Gabriel Slonina (£12.6m), Carney Chukwuemeka (£20m), Cesare Casadei (£12m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12m), Andrey Santos (£11m), David Fofana (£10.5m), Angela Gabriel (£13m) and Lesley Ugochukwu (£23.5m) all commanded eight-figure transfer fees.
And Jimmy-Jay Morgan (£6m), Ishe Samuels-Smith (£4m) and freebies Alex Matos, Omari Hutchinson and Diego Moreira have also linked up with the Chelsea youth set-up to complete the 26 permanent arrivals in the Boehly era before Caicedo follows.
Dujuan Richards will also arrive from Phoenix Academy in October when the Jamaican striker turns 18.
Koulibaly and Aubameyang have already been sold with striker Fofana, Gabriel, Slonina and Hutchinson all out on loan this term.
Chelsea are now just £93.2m shy of spending £1billion on incoming signings in just three windows – and pipping Liverpool to Romeo Lavia would put them even closer to that landmark figure.
However, the club have generated £1.2bn in sales since 2013-14 – including £208m this season with the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount leaving.
    PAY THE PRICE?
But rival supporters are still unsure Boehly’s toy shop spending is guaranteed to translate into success on the pitch.
Mauricio Pochettino’s new side – who have no European football this season – drew 1-1 with Liverpool on the opening weekend of the new campaign and have a favourable run of fixtures.
But one Twitter user joked: “12th position still awaits them.”
Another said: “This is ridiculously ridiculous. It would be a very big shame if they end up not winning all the available trophies this season.”

A third added: “They now have to win the league to justify that amount of spending as if City or anyone else did, we would all be saying the same. No excuses win the league or it’s a failure.”
And a fourth simply wrote: “This just ridiculous.”

He has made 163 appearances for the Blues but spent large spells out of the team after losing form.
Edouard Mendy was brought in to replace the Spaniard in 2020 but Kepa won his place back under Graham Potter last season.

Chelsea FINALLY agree record £115m transfer for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo after beating Liverpool to midfield star

CHELSEA have agreed a British transfer record £115million deal for the signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton. The £115m fee eclipses the previous £107m record Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in January.

Caicedo snubbed interest from Liverpool after they agreed a £111m fee with Brighton last week.
But Caicedo rejected a move to Anfield as he has had his heart set on a move to Chelsea from the beginning of the window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, there is also a sell-on clause included for Brighton as well as the historic £115m fee.
It is added that medical tests have been booked with Chelsea pipping Liverpool to the deal, following their 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

The Athletic say an eight-year contract has been agreed with the option of a ninth with medicals booked for tomorrow and an official announcement to follow right after.
Brighton will make an incredible profit on Caicedo having signed him for just £4.5m from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle in 2021.
He was one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League last season, making 37 league appearances for the Seagulls as they finished 6th in the Premier League.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had confirmed that a deal had been agreed to bring the star to Anfield.

But a deal started to stall as it was claimed that Caicedo was having second thoughts about the move.
And as revealed by SunSport, the South American rejected the deal as he had his heart set on moving to Chelsea.
Chelsea desperately need new midfielders following the exits of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante this summer.
And Caicedo now looks to be Fernandez’s new midfield partner with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia also close to a Chelsea move.
Liverpool were in for Lavia too and after losing Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita, they are short in midfield.

ROY KEANE put his admiration for Reece James aside to criticise the Chelsea captain for Liverpool’s opening goal. The points were ultimately shared at Stamford Bridge but Luis Diaz put the visitors ahead on 18 minutes.
Roy Keane was critical of Reece James
Reece James’ defending came under fire
Liverpool hit the hosts on the counter and Mo Salah’s brilliant cross field ball was finished off by Diaz.
But Manchester United legend Keane believed James should have tracked the goalscorer and made more of an effort to intercept.
He said on Sky Sports: “James is looking at him running off him. He’ll argue afterwards saying, ‘Oh, I’m a wing-back and that’s not my job.’
“But he sees him running and you have to sprint back like your life depends on it.

“I don’t get it as brilliant as James is – listen I love him to bits think he’s a brilliant player, particularly going forward – but when you see someone running off the back of you, you sprint. You sprint. No excuses.”
Former Liverpool and Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge attempted to defend James.
But Keane replied: “He might as well stop and have a cup of tea.
“You’ve got to sprit back because you never know what might happen. He might take a bad touch.”

Salah was clearly furious with boss Jurgen Klopp’s decision, with Liverpool’s opening weekend clash with the Blues on a knife edge at 1-1.
And he vented his frustration on his protective hand tape – tossing it across the West London turf as he trudged off the pitch.
It had fans joking that the Egyptian should have been punished for littering.

Chelsea debutant Axel Disasi levelled things up with a header before half-time, before a goalless second half saw each side settle for a draw.
Salah had a record of scoring in all six of his opening Premier League games with Liverpool.
In those matches, he notched a total of eight goals which is a joint-record with Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard.
And he thought he had extended that record after momentarily putting Liverpool 2-0, only to be denied by VAR in a tight offside call.
Ben Chilwell suffered the same fate as Salah when he was narrowly ruled offside having rounded Alisson to finish moments after Disasi’s equaliser.
Klopp refused to criticise Salah for his angry reaction to his substitution.
The German said: “I can understand because if Mo scored it would have been a new record for goals scored in the opening game but I didn’t think about that.
“We needed stability and we needed fresh legs. It was super intense for everybody.
“That’s all I can say about it, his reaction was absolutely okay. When I sub a player and he is jumping in to my arms at 1-1 and he is a striker who thinks he will score, I would be really surprised so that’s absolutely fine.”
Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane, however, was not impressed, telling Salah to “sit down and shut up”.
He said: “It’s OK to be upset but don’t keep it going too long.

Kepa, who remains the world’s most expensive keeper, arrived at Chelsea for a whopping £71.6million in 2018.

The star, who infamously REFUSED to be subbed off in the 2019 Carabao Cup Final, regained his place last term.
Yet despite Mendy already quitting Chelsea for Saudi Arabia, he has been deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Courtois ruptured his ACL in training and left the pitches in tears – he is expected to be out for the season.
Now, according to The Guardian, Schmeichel is being lined up to replace Kepa if he leaves.
The Blues flogged Edouard Mendy to the Saudi Pro League, and although paid £25m to Brighton for Robert Sanchez, he appears to be the back-up option.
There is also believed to be interest in the Danish international from other Premier League clubs.

It was reported earlier this year that Schmeichel, 36, would be allowed to leave Nice.
He joined the French side at the end of the 2021/22 season after an 11-year spell at the King Power.
According to French outlet L’Equipe, Nice will not stand in the way of the goalkeeper if he decides leave the club this summer.
Several members of the squad are said to be growing annoyed by Schmeichel’s training methods.

His lack of leadership, along with his preference to manage himself, is causing tensions to rise.
If Schmeichel does depart, reserve goalkeeper Marcin Bulka will likely step up to become the club’s No 1.
Earlier this month, the Dane admitted that he would be open to a return to Leicester.
During an appearance on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, he said: “I don’t think my chapter with Leicester will ever end.
“I still say we, the club will always be a part [of me].
“I came to Leicester as a young man needing a home and needing somewhere to be accepted for who I was and not for what everyone else thought I should be.
“Leicester gave me that, and even after 11 years there’s still something unwritten for me there.”
But it could be a return to the Premier League moves top of Schmeichel’s agenda in the immediate future if Chelsea come calling. More
