Chelsea inefficient in attack but only Manchester City have conceded fewer league goals this season

CHELSEA earned a much-needed Premier League victory over Fulham on Monday night.Having failed to score a league goal in the month of September, the Blues struck twice in quick succession against their West London rivals through Mykhailo Mudryk (£2.6m) and Armando Broja (£1.9m).
Prior to the win at Craven Cottage, only Burnley had scored fewer goals than Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the top flight this season and while Monday night’s result has gone some way to readdressing the balance, Chelsea’s inefficiency in front of goal remains a concern.

However, Pochettino will be encouraged by his team’s defensive record this term – something Dream Team bosses should be conscious of as well.
Chelsea have conceded just six goals across their first seven league games, only league-leaders Manchester City boast a better defensive record at this stage.
They’ve now kept four clean sheets in all competitions, a tally that ensures lofty placings in the Dream Team rankings for three Stamford Bridge residents.
Robert Sanchez (£2.7m) is the second-best goalkeeper in the game at the time of writing having banked 44 points in total.
The ex-Brighton custodian is nine points adrift of Nick Pope (£4.2m) but considerably less expensive – the Newcastle man is the most-costly asset in his position right now.

Levi Colwill (£2.7m) was the big winner at Craven Cottage this week as he pocketed 12 points having provided an assist on top of his defensive returns.

The 20-year-old’s best haul of the season has catapulted him up to fifth in the defensive rankings.
He now has 48 points to his name and his average of eight points-per-game over his last three outings means he’s technically in better form than the likes of Matty Cash (£3m), Kyle Walker (£3.6m) and William Saliba (£3.5m).
Axel Disasi (£3.5m) isn’t far behind his team-mate on 45 points.
The France international scored against Liverpool in Gameweek 1 and has played every minute so far this campaign.

Chelsea don’t have European commitments this season but their domestic defensive returns are undeniably impressive and while Disasi is moderately priced, both Sanchez and Colwill have offered excellent value for money.
Pochettino’s men face Burnley this coming weekend which, on current form, appears ripe for another clean sheet.
Arsenal’s visit to Stamford Bridge after the international break will provide a sterner test but Dream Team managers should be considering Chelsea’s defensive assets at the very least.

Chelsea ratings: Cole Palmer shows Man City’s bench warmer is becoming one of Blues’ best as Mudryk and Broja also shine

CHELSEA picked up an important 2-0 win over London rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage to ease the pressure on manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues have been enduring a rough start to their campaign following a series of injuries and poor results.

However, the West Londoners climbed up to 11th place in the Premier League table following an impressive performance against the Cottagers.
The visitors opened the scoring after just 18 minutes with Mykhailo Mudryk finally scoring his first ever Chelsea goal after 24 appearances thanks to an assist by Levi Colwill.
Pochettino’s men doubled their lead just a minute later with Armando Broja following a poor clearance by Tim Ream.
But who stood out for Chelsea? Isabelle Barker rates each player at Craven Cottage:

    ROBERT SANCHEZ – 7
The Chelsea goalkeeper looked way more comfortable with his feet. His passing decisions and distribution improved throughout.
Fans will be hoping he can keep progressing but he still needs to cut out the occasional, sloppy error.
    AXEL DISASI – 8
Mopped up the damage for the Blues at the back, and had pin-point accuracy with his long-balls.
Also registered more successful ball recoveries (6) than any other player for either Fulham or Chelsea inside the first half.

    MARC CUCURELLA – 7
Solid in the right-back role. Injected bundles of energy into the side and actually looked better in the right-back position than left.
    THIAGO SILVA – 7
Showed he is 39-years-old and still balling. His silky smooth performance made him look like he was in his early twenties.
    ENZO FERNANDEZ – 7
Produced blistering runs that were unchallenged by any of the Fulham players. Was almost on target on the edge of the box but blazed wide.
    MYKHAILO MUDRYK – 8
Scored his first-ever Chelsea goal and that will do him the world of good, given his £88.5million price tag has weighed heavily on his shoulders.
The goal gave him positivity, confidence and energy on the ball. If Chelsea can get him back to the level he was when he signed from Shakhtar Donetsk, they will have some player on their hands.
Mykhailo Mudryk finally scored his first ever Chelsea goalCredit: AP
    ARMANDO BROJA – 8
Looked like the striker that Chelsea have been missing all this time. Missed a sitter early on but became a hero by hitting his first Prem goal in a year.
Certainly did not look like a player who’s failed to start a game for 11 months. His movement, composure and link up play was so impressive.
    COLE PALMER – 9
A menace from the offset and teed up Broja beautifully for the second.
Clearly what was City’s bench player is becoming one of Chelsea’s best players.
    CONOR GALLAGHER – 8
Was an absolute workhorse in the middle in the ultimate riposte to the social media trolls. He also supplied a lovely ball to set up Broja for the club’s first chance. Was constantly at the heart of Chelsea’s best attacking play.
    MOISES CAICEDO – 7
Was involved in the build up to Mudryk’s opener with a peach of a pass to Colwill.
    LEVI COLWILL – 8
Supplied an inch perfect cross for the opener and pulled the strings for most of Chelsea’s brightest moments. He created the joint-most chances (1), and registered more successful tackles (2/2) than any other player from both sides in the first half.

Chelsea legend Gus Poyet reveals why Blues team-mates are the reason for Moises Caicedo flop since record £115m transfer

CHELSEA legend Gus Poyet believes record signing Moises Caicedo has struggled to live up to his billing because the rest of the team isn’t performing around him.The Blues beat Liverpool to Caicedo’s signature in August following a £115million Premier League record deal with Brighton, just seven months after Enzo Fernandez’s £107m move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea legend Gus Poyet believes the same goes for Enzo FernandezCredit: Getty
However, both star midfielders have failed to meet expectations so far this season amid a rough start that has seen Mauricio Pochettino’s men tumble to 15th place in the table.
But Poyet insists that players like them need the rest of the team delivering on the pitch in order for them to hit the high notes.
The Greece manager is adamant that Pochettino’s injury crisis is also to blame but the West Londoners will still have to improve “very quickly”.
The 55-year-old is confident things will improve under the Argentinean tactician but advised him to play Caicedo and Fernandez at No6.

Poyet told SunSport: “The signings of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo were both big calls. I call these types of transfers ‘in fashion’ where it seems to be the popular thing to spend lots of money on a specific position.
“We have seen it happen with goalkeepers, centre-backs and striker, now the trend is paying £100m for a central midfielder; we have seen this with Declan Rice [at Arsenal], Caicedo and Fernandez. It seems to be in fashion and I don’t like that in football.
“They are two very good players and I think they are both best as a number six, I don’t think either of them can play in attack.
“Enzo had his breakthrough at the World Cup when he was playing in front of the back four and Caicedo was doing the same at Brighton.
    Most read in Football
“The problem is that Mauricio Pochettino has a big injury list and he is trying to fit in the best players to accommodate that and not leave anyone out.
“If you are not an individual player like a winger, you need the team to be performing in order for you to perform.
“They are in the middle of the park so they need the whole team to be performing around them and I don’t think Chelsea are functioning in the best way at the moment. For Enzo and Caicedo I think it is a matter of time before the team starts to perform.
“We need to be honest and say that when you change the whole plan of the club you need to take time to adjust. If during that time there is a change of managers then it can take a bit longer.

“Even worse, if you have key players getting injured at the start of the season then it can become dangerous for everybody because you can get in a bad mood and bad form which can make it difficult to win matches – that brings everything down.
“It is a tough moment for Chelsea but I think what is most important is what is going on internally in terms of understanding the situation, as well as just remaining calm.

Chelsea hoping to raise staggering £500MILLION as Todd Boehly seeks loan to keep up with Premier League rivals

CHELSEA are looking to raise up to £500million from US financial institutions. The big spenders of Stamford Bridge are seeking a loan — something other Premier League clubs have done in recent years.
Todd Boehly is seeking a loan to continue Chelsea’s cash splashCredit: Getty
It comes amid a remarkable period of transfer spending from new owner Todd Boehly.
The American, 50, has spent £1BN across the last three transfer windows.
Yet the unprecedented level of spending has done nothing to improve Chelsea on the pitch.
Managers Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard all left in difficult circumstances last season.

And Mauricio Pochettino is now struggling to get a tune out of his inflated squad.
The Blues have won just one of their opening six Premier League games.
That dreadful start leaves them 15th in the table ahead of a West London derby with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Monday night.
They have been linked with a number of signings in the January transfer window.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen are two strikers mooted as possible targets for the Blues.
But former player Frank Leboeuf feels Boehly’s ownership of the club could prove fatal for Chelsea.
He told CasinosEnLigne.com: “Let’s be realistic – Chelsea are a mid-table club. Attracting players will be tough and players like [Kylian] Mbappe won’t want to come.
“The big players want to play in the Champions League. Arsenal had that problem for years, and so did Manchester United.
“Top players won’t come to Chelsea because the club has fallen.
“It’s unbelievable what the club has become just two years on from their Champions League win. I’m disgusted with it.
“I have nothing against Todd Boehly, but they need to change things quickly or else they’ll kill the club.” More

Former Chelsea target makes Prem clubs who snubbed him eat their words with stunning goal spree in Germany

SERHOU GUIRASSY’S sensational form in Germany has opened up old wounds among his Premier League admirers. The Stuttgart striker, 27, wanted to play in England’s top flight.

And Frank Lampard was eyeing up a move for him while Everton boss.
Lamps had been keen on Guirassy after seeing him play for French outfit Rennes while he was in charge at Chelsea.
But Toffees bigwigs overruled him and they ended up signing Neal Maupay from Brighton for £15million in August 2022.
That deal was a total disaster as the Frenchman managed only one goal last season before he was loaned out to former club Brentford last month.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Burnley considered taking Guinea international Guirassy on loan in the 2021-22 season.
They signed Wout Weghorst instead in January last year — and he scored just twice as they went down after boss Sean Dyche was sacked.
West Ham, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United also tried and failed for Guirassy earlier in his career when he was at French side Amiens.
And Chelsea offered him a trial when he was looking to leave Amiens in 2020.

At 27, it’s fair to say that Guirassy has been a late bloomer in modern football terms.
Prior to this season he has never scored more than 11 goals in a league season.
But after starting this season in blistering form, he has managed 10 goals and one assist in just six league appearances for Stuttgart.
Stuttgart’s 2-0 victory against FC Koln yesterday was the first time Guirassy failed to register a goal or an assist in a game so far this season.
His ten goals in his first five games saw him match Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga record of being on double figures after five.
And when Lewandowski set that record, he went on to score 41 Bundesliga goals across the season – the most ever in a single campaign.
Guirassy’s goals has seen Stuttgart start remarkably as they sit in second behind fellow surprise packages Bayer Leverkusen in first.
It’s a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for a club that only stayed in Germany’s top division last season after winning a relegation play off against Bundesliga II side Hamburg.
If Guirassy’s goals continue, they’ll be dreaming of Champions League football next year and his admirers in the Premier League may have to pay big money if they look to reignite their interest in the Guinea international. More

However, the deal fell through with Lukaku eventually joining Roma on loan and Vlahovic remaining in Italy.
The reason for the failed bid has now been revealed by Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli.
Speaking to La Repubblica, he said: “There was an offer from Chelsea for Vlahovic.

Blues co-owner Todd Boehly bankrolled a whopping NINE signings this summer, although the new arrivals have yet to hit the ground running.
It’s understood that Pochettino wants more of a say on transfers and has informed the Blues brass of that desire.

And according to reports, Toney and Osimhen are on the Argentine’s winter wishlist.
The Guardian claim the 51-year-old believes the addition of the Brentford and Napoli forwards will give his side sufficient firepower for the second half of the season.

Toney is currently serving an eight-month ban from football for a “substantial number of breaches” of the FA’s betting rules but will be free to play come January.
Chelsea will have to go toe-to-toe with their London rivals Arsenal for the signature of Toney, whom Brentford value at £80m.
They’ll also have to break the bank for Osimhen – despite his Napoli future being up in the air.
The Nigerian striker is contemplating taking legal action against the Serie A champions after their official TikTok account posted two videos mocking him.

One of the shocking clips – which went viral on social media – even included a racial slur.
Napoli have since issued a grovelling non-apology to their striker.
In it, they claimed their snubbing of multiple offers for his services last summer showed how much they value him.
It read: “As proof of that, during the summer training retreat, the Club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the striker’s transfer abroad.
“Social media, in particular, TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity.
“Without wanting to, as in the case with Osimhen as the protagonist, have any intention of insult or derision.
“In any case, if Victor perceived any offence towards him, this was not what the club intended.”

Chelsea fans say ‘he’s given up already’ as boss Mauricio Pochettino gives damning team news update for Fulham clash

One of the main issues facing Pochettino this weekend is Nicolas Jackson’s suspension after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Aston Villa last weekend.
Academy product Armando Broja is available after returning from a ACL injury during pre-season but Pochettino has hinted he may opt to play without a striker.
The Chelsea boss said: “We have a few options with a striker and without a striker.
“We need to assess the whole squad after the game. Things appear after 48 hours and we need to see how they are and how they recover from Wednesday.”

Chilwell limped off despite completing the 90 minutes of Chelsea’s midweek 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Brighton.
The Chelsea boss looked concerned as he confirmed it was “bad news” and may be a repeat of last season’s hamstring injury.
He said: “Bad news. The doctor told me is it is a bad injury but we need to assess in the next few days.

“Yes [it’s the same leg as last season]. I think so. It’s the mechanism of the action. He was a little bit unlucky in the way he suffered the injury. It’s very sad because he was doing a very good game.”
The club have not been able to put a timeline on Chilwell’s absence as of yet.
Malo Gusto is suspended after seeing red in last weekend’s game against Aston Villa but first-choice right-back and captain Reece James could return from injury in his absence.
Meanwhile Christopher Nkunku, Benoit Badiashile, Romeo Lavia, Carney Chukwuemeka, Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana all remain sidelined. More
