Chelsea signing Sarr supports poverty-stricken hometown in Nice with charity work and has a street park named after him

NOT many make something of their lives outside Les Moulins, a rough suburb to avoid in the picturesque city of Nice.
But Malang Sarr is an example that anything is possible.

The highly coveted 21-year-old defender has hit the big time with a move to the Premier League.
Joining Frank Lampard’s Chelsea on a free transfer after his contract expired, Sarr has signed a five-year deal with the Blues and is expected to be sent out on loan to gain valuable game time.
It’s a transfer that he could only have dreamed of growing up on an estate in a disadvantaged neighbourhood in the French Riviera.
However, despite his rapid rise through the ranks at Nice – Sarr has never forgotten his roots.

    DOING HIS BIT FOR CHARITY
Sarr understands what he achieved was against the norm for kids from Les Moulins.
That’s why he became an ambassador for the Adam Association.
Formed in 1977, the charity works with children and young adults from the poor area and gives them opportunities they may not get.
Educational support for kids is high on their agenda, as well as social and professional integration for young adults.

Sarr turned to the Adam Association himself, when it came to needing help with his school work, so he understands exactly what they represent.

At the turn of the year, Sarr made an appearance at one of their meetings to hand out certificates for 23 graduates of a security training course.
He told his audience: “Knowing that we all come from Les Moulins and seek to follow the path of those who have achieved great things in the neighbourhood is the only thing you should have in mind.
“You should not put up any barriers because luck is made, in sport and in all other professions.”
    IN HIS HONOUR
Last year, Sarr’s remarkable rise was recognised in Les Moulins.
At only 20, he was immortalised with his very own park named after him in the district.
The street park features a mural of the local’s hero painted on a wall, while naturally there are goals for kids to practice with and aspire to be the ‘next Sarr’.
Sarr understands he’s a role model for the people who have supported him and his epic ascension from Nice youth product to potential Premier League star.
“To be able to give back to the neighbourhood, to give back to the city, all I could have is the least of things,” Sarr revealed.
“It’s a neighbourhood where life is good, everyone is pleasant, where everyone loves each other and is generous.

“I try to be the best person I can to give a good image and to set an example.”
    A BORN LEADER
Sarr joined Nice when he was six, spending 12 years developing with the club’s academy.
He made his debut in 2016 – scoring and becoming the second youngest goalscorer in Ligue 1 history in the process.
And under Nice manager Patrick Vieira he became a mainstay of the first team, filling in at left-back as well as playing in central defence.

The former Gunners legend also sees something of him in the talented Sarr.
“He has the personality of a leader,” Vieira told Sport365 in 2019. “He answers simply and clearly.”
Clearly, Sarr is a leader on and off the pitch.

Chelsea announced the signing of Thiago Silva on a free transfer

Silva, who arrives at Stamford Bridge after his PSG contract expired, becomes Frank Lampard’s third signing of this summer’s window.
He said: “I am so happy to be joining Chelsea.
“I am delighted to be a part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad for next season and I’m here to challenge for honours.
“See you soon Chelsea fans, I look forward to playing at Stamford Bridge very soon.”

Man Utd, Chelsea and Leeds suffer transfer blow with Ben White set to stay at Brighton after £25m bid is rejected

BRIGHTON look set to win their fight to keep defender Ben White at the club.
The defender has been the subject of some major interest by Premier League clubs after an impressive season on loan at Leeds in the Championship.

But Brighton have been desperate to keep the player and other teams – including Liverpool – have been put off by the high transfer fee.
Leeds have been desperate for White, 22, to return next season but their top offer of £25million was turned down.
As SunSport revealed, Brighton were keen not to sell White to the Yorkshire side as they feel Marcelo Bielsa’s team will be a rival in the Premier League in terms of being in a similar league position.

Brighton would have been prepared to sell White for between £25m and £30m as that would have been an offer they could not refuse.

But Liverpool, along with Chelsea and Manchester United who also expressed an interest, have not been keen to meet those demands.
Graham Potter has talked up White’s prospects on the South Coast.
In July, he stated: “He’s our player, he’s got a long contract with us.
“I have known Ben for a while, I have been aware of him, wanted to try and sign him when we were at Swansea.

“I know about his qualities. He’s a fantastic player.
“He’s done brilliantly at Leeds and helped them get promotion – that’s fantastic for them, fantastic for him – but he’s our player and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
Meawhile, Chelsea are on the verge of securing former Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva on a free transfer.
But Manchester United are yet to decide on Chris Smalling’s future after his impressive loan spell at Roma.

Chelsea have £15m transfer offer for Rennes keeper Edouard Mendy rejected as search for Kepa replacement continues

CHELSEA have suffered a transfer blow – with Rennes rejecting their offer for star keeper Edouard Mendy.
Blues boss Frank Lampard wants the Senegal international to provide competition for the inconsistent Kepa Arrizabalaga.

    1

Chelsea suffered a blow after Rennes rejected their offer for keeper Edouard MendyMendy has just helped Rennes qualify for the Champions League for the first time, with the modest French club finishing third in Ligue 1.
He kept 13 clean sheets, and conceded just 31 goals in 33 games last season.
Chelsea’s French head of goalkeeping Christophe Lollichon has recommended Normandy-born Mendy to Lampard.
Stamford Bridge officials have since been in contact with their Rennes counterparts about a potential deal for the 28-year-old.

However, sources close to the Brittany club revealed they have turned down a £15million Blues bid for Mendy.

The West Londoners could yet return with an improved offer.
The 6ft 5ins keeper is under contract until 2023. He joined Rennes from Reims last summer for just £3.6m.
Chelsea were linked with a mega-money for for Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak – who has a £109million release clause.

But having closed in on a £140m deas for Kai Havertz, 21, and Ben Chilwell, 23, the Blues are scouting for cheaper alternatives between the posts.
Ajax’s Andre Onana, Burnley’s Nick Pope and even Watford’s Ben Foster have all been linked with Chelsea.

Mendy, who previously played for Cherbourg and Marseille’s B team, has since seen his value skyrocket with a series of impressive displays against France’s biggest clubs.
Born to parents hailing from Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, he opted to play his international football for Senegal’s Teranga Lions – winning eight caps to date.
Chelsea famously signed goalkeeping legend Petr Cech from Rennes, paying £7m for the Czech Republic international.

Five clubs Lionel Messi could join including Man Utd, City and Chelsea after handing in Barcelona transfer request

LIONEL MESSI is on the verge of quitting Barcelona after requesting to leave his boyhood club.
The 33-year-old Nou Camp legend demanded Barca exercise a clause in his contract that would allow him to quit for nothing with immediate effect.

But the Spanish giants believe the stipulation expired expired on June 10, with the Argentine superstar under contract until the summer of 2021.
Club and player seem set for a legal battle over the clause, with Barcelona believing his €700m (£629m) buy-out clause is still valid.
And with wages totalling £1.15m per week – it leaves very few teams capable of facilitating a move for Messi – here SunSport list five possible options.
    MANCHESTER CITY
Since Pep Guardiola – who managed Messi for four seasons – took over at the Etihad in 2016, he has spent £700m on transfers.

It indicates they have the backing to pull off a mega-money transfer for Messi, despite escaping a Financial Fair Play penalty this year.
Acccording to Radio Catalunya, Messi has already spoken to Guardiola about a move to Manchester.
And having grown frustrated throughout last season, reuniting with a familiar face could convince the forward to choose City.

    PSG
The French champions, like City, seem to have no limits when it comes to the transfer market.
Having already broke the record when they signed Neymar for £198m from Barca three years ago, PSG are not afraid to role the dice and break the bank.
It has been claimed Messi is open to linking up with strike partner Neymar again, with the Ligue 1 kings desperate to win the Champions League.
But Messi’s £64m-a-year basic wages could prove to be a problem even for PSG, who pay £33m to Neymar and £19m to Kylian Mbappe every season.

    4

It has been claimed Messi is open to linking up with strike partner Neymar again
    MANCHESTER UNITED
United have reportedly not wasted any time in making contact with Messi’s representatives regarding a transfer.
That is despite the fact they have so far failed to stump up the cash for Jadon Sancho – who Borussia Dortmund value at £108m.
Messi is also said to prefer a move to Manchester rivals City or PSG over United.
But SPORT, say Old Trafford bosses are confident they have the funds to pursue the sensation move.

    4

    CHELSEA
The Blues looked disinterested in tempting Messi to London – until Rio Ferdinand tweeted news that Frank Lampard was in for the Argentine.
Chelsea last season completed deals for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner and have carried over the spending to this season.
They are close to wrapping up transfers for Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell – while also testing the market for a keeper.
Making a swoop for Messi at this time seems unlikely, even if they do raise funds from money made by flogging unwanted flops.

Inter have the backing of Chinese chairman Steven Zhang, son of billionaire Zhang Jindong.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard ‘wants to make Thiago Silva captain’ once transfer complete with medical set for tomorrow

FRANK LAMPARD reportedly wants Thiago Silva to take a captaincy role once the veteran defender joins Chelsea.
With a medical set for this week as the Brazilian completes a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, attention has turned to what sort of role he will play at Stamford Bridge.

    2

At 35, the Brazilian is said to harbour ambitions of playing at the 2022 World Cup and will expect a reasonable degree of first-team action.
And Lampard is planning on giving Silva an extra set of responsibilities once he lands in West London.
According to Brazil-based outlet Globo Esporte, the Chelsea boss wants the new signing to take the armband.

Silva has captained PSG, AC Milan and his country during an illustrious career but such a move would be a surprise.

Cesar Azpilicueta has held the job at Chelsea since last summer and the 30-year-old does not appear to be leaving the club any time soon.
Reece James, Marcos Alonso and incoming full-back Ben Chilwell may well be ahead of the Spaniard in the pecking order next season, however.
Therefore Lampard may see Silva as a regular at centre-back, allowing a more consistent leading voice on the pitch.
Last season, the Blues boss gave the armband to N’Golo Kante, Willian and Jorginho in Azpilicueta’s absence.

    2

Officially, the Italian midfielder is the club’s vice-captain with Lampard praising him last year as “a big character and a driver for us”.
Silva is expected to be Chelsea’s third signing of the summer after Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
Yet they will not be done there with Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell set to arrive – with plenty of cash in the Stamford Bridge bank.

Chelsea star Marc Guehi to spend all of next season on loan transfer at Swansea City

CHELSEA defender Marc Guehi will spend another season on loan with Swansea City.
The 19-year-old joined the Welsh club in January, having made two senior Chelsea appearances in the League Cup earlier in the campaign.

    1

Chelsea defender Marc Guehi will spend another season on loan with Swansea
He went on to play 14 times for Swansea and has earned himself another spell to gain experience throughout the upcoming term.
It comes as Chelsea close in on free transfers for Thiago Silva, 35, and  Malang Sarr, 21.
Guehi will return to the Liberty Stadium having been called up to England’s Under-21 side.
The defender will also be joined in Aidy Boothroyd’s side by fellow Chelsea players Callum Hudson Odoi, 19, Reece James, 20, and Conor Gallagher, 20.

England U21s play Kosovo and Austria in European Championship qualifiers next month.
The Blues are set for a massive summer overhaul this season, after a major spending spree.

They are on the verge of sealing a £90million deal for 21-year-old Kai Havertz, having already signed Hakim Ziyech, 27, and Timo Werner, 24, last season.
Unwanted midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, 26, is a target for AC Milan while left-back Emerson, also 26, is wanted by rivals Inter.

Michy Batshuayi is also set to depart with Leeds, Atalanta and West Ham all interested in the 26-year-old striker.

Chelsea complete signing of Barcelona wonderkid Xavier Mbuyamba, compared to Virgil Van Dijk, on three-year deal

CHELSEA have completed the signing of high-touted centre-back Xavier Mbuyamba.
The Blues have agreed a three-year deal with the 18-year-old – who left Barcelona after just a year due to a lack of game time.

    1

Chelsea have completed the signing of highly-rated centre-back Xavier Mbuyamba
He penned a professional contract with Chelsea earlier this week and will now join the development squad ahead of the new season.
Mbuyama – likened to Virgil van Dijk – had a trial with Chelsea in the 2018/19 season but was unable to sign at the time due to the their transfer ban.
He instead spent the majority of his youth career with Dutch side MVV Maastricht.
But Mbuyamba then joined Barcelona last summer and played for their Under-19 side, making three Uefa Youth League appearances.

SunSport reported in May how Chelsea were in pole position to land Mbuyamba.
Commenting on his future earlier this year, Mbuyamba’s agent Carlos Barros told VI how the Blues are desperate to land his client.
He said: “Chelsea have the best credentials. Of course, we discussed this extensively last year.
“They gave a fantastic presentation. There is a unique football atmosphere there.

“During lunch you are immediately with the first-team players and the club has outlined a very ambitious plan for Xavier.”

“They really think that in one to two years, he can be a starter in the first team.
“Frank Lampard has of course already proven that he is not afraid to start young players.
“Being in the starting line-up at Chelsea at the age of 20 would of course be great.”
