Chelsea plot two more transfers after Kai Havertz signing as Lampard targets new keeper and defensive midfielder

FRANK LAMPARD is set to keep his summer spending going as he targets a new keeper and defensive midfielder.
The Blues boss has already welcomed Hakim Ziyech, 27, Timo Werner, 24, Ben Chilwell, 23, Thiago Silva, 35, and Malang Sarr, 21, into his squad.

    2

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is a target for Chelsea
But he is due to take his transfer business past £200million as he closes in on a club record deal for 21-year-old Kai Havertz.
The playmaker left Germany’s Nations League squad to allow him to finish off the final stages of his £90m move.
But according to The Telegraph, Lampard is still in the market for a stopper and defence-minded midfielder.
SunSport revealed under-fire Kepa Arrizabalaga will fight for his place at Stamford Bridge, but it will not stop the club from bringing in competition.

It is believed they have already had a £15million bid turned down for Rennes’ Edouard Mendy.
And Lampard is also a fan of Ajax keeper Andre Onana, having been in contact with his representatives throughout last season.
The Chelsea head coach has several options in midfield, helped by the fact N’Golo Kante appears ready to remain a Blue.
But Declan Rice, 21, remains a top target for the club.

Lampard sees the England international as a potential solution for his defensive problems.
But having played in front of the backline most of his senior career, opposed to centre-back, Rice could be contender for Chelsea’s packed midfield.
The Blues are yet to bid for the West Ham favourite, but it is understood the Hammers rate him as high as £80m.

Inter’s transfer ‘assault’ for Chelsea star Kante can only begin after offloading flops with Eriksen’s future in doubt

INTER MILAN are reportedly planning a transfer ‘assault’ on Chelsea for star midfielder N’Golo Kante.
But Antonio Conte will have to flog some of his squad first if he is to be reunited with the French midfielder.

CalcioMercato reports that Joao Mario, Dalbert Henrique and Ivan Perisic are the three most at risk of being shown the exit.
But former Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen, Milan Skriniar and Marcelo Brozovic are all fighting for their Inter futures.
Kante reportedly wants to fight for his spot at Chelsea despite interest elsewhere.

Frank Lampard’s side are reportedly prepared to sell the midfielder for £80million this summer.

But Kante has no intention to leave Chelsea as he is settled at the club, according to Goal.
The 29-year-old wants to cement his spot in the squad after an injury-hit 2019/20 campaign.
He scored three goals in 22 league appearances last term, but failed to make a single assist.
Lampard has not instructed the club to sell Kante despite his huge summer spending spree.

And he showed faith in the Frenchman as he handed him the captain’s armband for the game against Brighton.
Conte signed Kante from Leicester in 2016 while he was in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Serie A boss has already snapped up Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Eriksen, Ashley Young and Victor Moses from the Premier League.

Chelsea ‘told they must shell out £30m’ for potential Kepa Arrizabalaga transfer replacement Edouard Mendy

CHELSEA target Edouard Mendy is valued at more than £30million by Rennes, according to reports.
Frank Lampard has been keen to add competition to the goalkeeper’s position amid Kepa’s underwhelming form.

Kepa Arrizabalaga could be about to get some competition at Stamford BridgeCredit: PA:Press Association
A world record fee for a shot-stopper, topping £71m, was forked out for the Spaniard in 2018.
Yet the 25-year-old was dropped for Willy Caballero twice last season, sparking a transfer hunt in the summer.
That has led Chelsea to Rennes star and Senegal international Mendy, 28.
According to the Telegraph, the Ligue 1 club want at least £30m for their No1.

Mendy was in goal for Rennes’ 1-1 draw with Lille on the opening weekend of their season, before missing the win over Montpellier due to personal reasons.
He only joined the club last year after working his way up through the French divisions, including spells with Cherbourg and Stade de Reims.
Kepa started Chelsea’s pre-season draw with Brighton on Saturday with Caballero coming off the bench, after signing a new contract in May.
Given the funds already invested in Kepa, coupled with the player’s desire to stay and prove himself, a departure appears unlikely.

Indeed, Petr Cech expects the keeper to stay even though the club are “perhaps” set to sign competition.

Speaking to Sport.cz, Chelsea’s technical and performance adviser said: “Kepa struggled last season, that is unquestionable.
“But the club invested in him and gave him a long-term contract because they believe he has the qualities and attributes to be successful.”
He added: “Additions will be made to the squad, perhaps even in goal, and this is what is being discussed now.
“But nobody is giving up on Kepa and we all hope he has a great future.”

Timo Werner reveals Lampard told him Chelsea plan to challenge for Premier League title and opens up on life in London

NEW Chelsea signing Timo Werner has revealed Frank Lampard wants to mount a title challenge next season.
Werner, 24, made the move the Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig this summer in a £53million deal.

Chelsea finished fourth last season, but Lampard has shown he wants more this season with a host of new signings.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Werner said: “The work with the manager recently has been really good.
“He’s been showing and explaining to the whole team, not just me, what we can do on the pitch and how to improve on last season.
“He’s been great to work with and he’s been discussing his plans for the future, and how we want to battle with teams like Man City and Liverpool.

“I think Chelsea is a big club and with this team that we have, I think we can reach a new level.
“We have some very good players here and the manager is there to show us the way, and help us improve.
“We’ve worked a lot on tactical things, as well as our strength and fitness, to make sure we are ready for the start of the season.”
With the move to Chelsea being Werner’s first venture away from German football, he has said help of two new team-mates has been key.

German speakers Antonio Rudiger and Matteo Kovacic have been helping the striker bed in his new country.
Stuttgart-born Werner noted: “Having someone who can speak German always helps, and also Kova can speak German too, so he’s helped me settle in.
“They have helped me around the training ground but also in explaining to me where is good to go for dinner, where is good to live, things like this.
“I didn’t know London very well, I’d only visited a few times, so it was really important to have two guys like this helping me settle in.”

And German team-mate Rudigier – who helped get Timo Werner over to Stamford Bridge – has done his best to talk Havertz into making the same switch.
He said: “I made my contribution to Timo. I hope that it will happen with Kai too.”
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard srcured deals for Werner and Hakim Ziyech last season and has added Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell to his squad this window.
Havertz has remained his No1 target throughout the summer, and Bild say the player completed a medical for the Blues on Sunday.

It is set to become a British transfer record deal, after the Blues agreed an initial £72m fee to sign the starlet after months of haggling.
Leverkusen can then recoup an extra £9m if certain performance-related bonuses are fulfilled, including Chelsea winning the Champions League.
And the Blues will hand over a further £9m as an installment at a later date.
It’s understood he will be on a staggering £310,000-a-week.

Havertz would join Werner and Rudiger as Chelsea’s third Germany international.

    3

Rudiger opened up on speaking to Werner prior to the striker signing from RB Leipzig, leading to the “Agent Rudiger” nickname bestowed upon him by some fans.
He told Chelsea TV: “Like everyone, I’m very excited that he’s chosen Chelsea and I’m looking forward to working with him.
“I did speak to him before because we have known each other for a long time.
“We spoke a lot during the lockdown and he told me he was interested in coming to England. Of course then I did my bit, what I had to do.
“I would say he’s a quiet, humble guy, always ready to do better.
“I hope he adapts very quickly when he comes because as we all know this competition is different than others.”

Chelsea to seal Edouard Mendy transfer to challenge under-fire Kepa as Rennes target Areola as new keeper

CHELSEA have moved a step closer to signing Edouard Mendy after Rennes made contact to replace him with Alphonse Areola.
Blues boss Frank Lampard wants Senegal international Mendy to provide competition for the inconsistent Kepa Arrizabalaga.

    3

Chelsea have moved a step closer to signing Edouard Mendy
And according to Lequipe, Rennes have already targeted PSG stopper Areola as their prime target to replace the Chelsea transfer target.
The Frenchman, who is under contract until 2023, spent last season at Real Madrid providing back up for Thibaut Courtois.
But he has been sent back to the French champions, who already have Keylor Navas as their No1.
Areola is keen to move on as he bids to keep his place as France’s third-choice stopper for the European Championships next summer.

The 27-year-old favours a move to the Premier League, having brought a house in London, but PSG are understood to be in talks with Rennes.
A loan move is an option, which would allow Mendy to make the move to Chelsea.
Lampard was said to be looking to replace Kepa with a mega-money moves with the likes of Jan Oblak and Marc-Andre ter Stegen initially reported.
But as he prepares to make his sixth signing this year, with the impending arrival of Kai Havertz for £90million from Bayer Leverkusen, cheaper alternatives in goal are now being discussed.

Kepa has had a change of heart and will now fight for his place at Chelsea

And SunSport revealed Kepa has had a change of heart and will now fight for his place between the posts at Stamford Bridge.
Mendy was identified as a more affordable option for Chelsea, and will go head to head with Kepa, instead of instantly replacing the 25-year-old.
He helped Rennes qualify for the Champions League for the first time, with the modest French club finishing third in Ligue 1.
Mendy kept 13 clean sheets, and conceded just 31 goals in 33 games last season.
Chelsea’s French head of goalkeeping Christophe Lollichon recommended Normandy-born Mendy to Lampard.
And the Blues are believed to have had an opening bid of £15m turned down by Rennes – with an improved offer due to be returned.

Chelsea on verge of £90m Kai Havertz transfer with deal sealed this week as Leverkusen ‘snap up Schick as replacement’

CHELSEA are nearing the signing of Kai Havertz with Bayer Leverkusen reportedly agreeing a deal for his replacement.

The Czech Republic international spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig and Leverkusen were set to do battle with their divisional rivals for his permanent signature.
But Bayer have now agreed on a £24million transfer with Roma, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
The deal will allow Havertz to head to West London with Schick taking his place in Peter Bosz’s team.
The Guardian report on a £90m deal being reached to bring the German to Chelsea.

Initially costing £72m, the attacking midfielder will earn Leverkusen an extra £9m if certain performance-related bonuses are fulfilled.
That is believed to include Chelsea winning the Champions League.
And the Blues will hand over a further £9m as an installment at a later date.
The deal should be completed this week with Bayer admitting they “don’t expect” to see Havetrz again, after waving him off to Germany duty.

Kai Havertz has agreed a mind-blowing deal with Chelsea

Havertz, 21, has been a star at BayArena since he became the club’s youngest-ever Bundesliga player in October 2016.
A tally of 18 goals and nine assists in all competitions last season was not enough to secure the club Champions League football, pushing him towards a move.
And he will join countryman Timo Werner in the capital next season, along with fellow summer buys Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell.

How Chelsea could line up with Lampard having to fit Havertz up top with Werner, Ziyech, Abraham and Giroud

FRANK LAMPARD is facing a managerial headache once his summer spending spree is over.
The Chelsea boss has already brought in FIVE additions for the upcoming season.

    3

Kai Havertz is close to joining Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr as a new Blue.
It leaves Lampard with plenty of options on how his new look side will shape up.
The manager’s preferred formation last season was 4-3-3 and his new additions point to that remaining throughout the campaign.
Kepa Arrizabalaga looks set to fight for his position in the starting 11 next season, but could go up against a new signing.

At the back Silva is expected to slot straight in, and will be partnered with either Antonio Rudigier, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen or Fikayo Tomori.
At left-back Chilwell was signed from Leicester for £50million and will walk into the team, barring any injuries.
At right-back Lampard has to decide whether skipper Cesar Azpilicueta keeps his place over promising defender Reece James.
N’Golo Kante was shifted back into his more preferred defensive role after the Premier League restart.

    3

And with Lampard favouring attacking midfielders either side of the Frenchman, Mason Mount and Havertz are tipped to make up a fearsome trio.
But Chelsea’s player of the season Mateo Kovacic is sure to rival them for the right to start from the off.
If Lampard was to switch to a 4-2-3-1, it could see Kante paired with Kovacic or Jorginho in a deep-lying pair, with Havertz pushed into a No10 role.
Going forward Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech are expected to occupy the flanks with Werner leading the line.
Havertz is also capable of playing out on the right, with Ziyech comfortable in an advanced midfield role too.

Similarly, speedy German Werner played five times on the left wing for RB Leipzig last season.
That means he could go out wide should Tammy Abraham or Olivier Giroud be preferred to start in the middle, adding more physicality.
Lampard also dabbled with three centre-backs last season with two attacking full-backs.
Azpilicueta could shift over to the centre to provide added experience next to Silva leaving one more space for Lampard’s four other options.

    3

Chilwell, capable of going forward and tracking back, would be pushed on to a more advanced role on the left, much like Marcos Alonso enjoyed at Stamford Bridge.
James would be a prime contender to occupy the right wing back position.
But having splashed the cash on Ziyech – who is renowned for his delivery – the Moroccan could be handed the unusual job of playing RWB.
Kante, Havertz, Kovacic, Jorginho and Mount are then in line to challenge for the two midfield spaces.
Pulisic, Werner and also Havertz and Ziyech – depending on where they are played – are options to play as inverted wingers.
If Werner was overlooked as a striker to instead play out wide, again Abraham and Giroud would compete to play through the middle.
Playing a 3-5-2 formation could now be unlikely for Lampard as it throws up too many problems for the Blues boss.
It would force him to either play Ziyech, Havertz, Chilwell and Werner out of position – or bench them to accommodate more conventional options.
Having focussed on attacking midfielders, wingers and a striker early on in the window, it points to Lampard building on a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 set up.
