Chelsea blow as new transfers Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell ‘will MISS start of season with injury’

CHELSEA have been dealt as squad blow with new signings Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell set to miss the start of the season with injury.
Ziyech, signed in February from Ajax, impressed during a pre-season friendly against Brighton, but limped off after 54 minuets.

Ben Chilwell is recovering from a heel injury
Chilwell, who arrived from Leicester for £50m, missed the end of last season with Leicester due to a heel problem.
According to The Athletic, both players have been ruled out for Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Brighton on Monday.
Playmaker Ziyech, 27, is in line to miss a few weeks having been assessed following his injury.
But Chilwell, 23, can be expected to return a little later, despite revealing his heel was ‘healing well’ having undergone training on his own at Cobham.

His last game for the Foxes was a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on July 4, where he was substituted off at half-time.
He was, though, able to pass his medical and seal the switch to Stamford Bridge.
Full-backs Cesar Azpilicueta, 31, and Reece James, 20, are in contention to start having recovered from slight knocks.
Winger Christian Pulisic, 21, who has not played since August’s FA Cup final defeat against Arsenal, could also appear against Brighton.

The American has recovered more quickly than expected from a bad hamstring injury and is expected to join the full training sessions this week.

The winger is also in line to receive the No10 shirt after Willian’s move to Arsenal.
Latest signing Kai Havertz, 21, said to have impressed during his first few training sessions, is expected to make his debut.
Thiago Silva, 35, who joined on a free transfer from PSG, has arrived in London to start training.
He took a holiday in Sardinia, following defeat in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich two months ago.
The centre-half will have to be tested for Covid-19 first before joining his new team-mates.
Should he test negative, will begin his first Chelsea session on Thursday, and is unlikely to feature against Brighton.

Thiago Silva and wife Isabelle toast to Chelsea transfer in swanky hotel after landing in London from Sardinia holiday

The Brazilian and his family landed in the capital on Tuesday after a holiday on the Italian island of Sardinia.

The couple posted their venture to London on their Instagram accounts
Digital influencer Isabelle posted to her Instagram account a snap of her and Thiago, 35, toasting champagne glasses over a Chelsea shirt upon their arrival.
The phrase “Welcome to London” captioned the post with a welcome card also left for the couple.
Silva himself wrote “I arrive!” over a clip he posted of Isabelle pouring the champagne.
A later post from the centre-back’s wife showed sons Isago and Iago, with England’s Nations League game versus Denmark playing in the background.

Ten days previous, the family had left Paris to head for Sardinia after Silva’s season belatedly finished with the Champions League final.
The couple posted numerous snaps from the holiday destination, Isabelle captioning one: “Life is beautiful, and that’s all.”
They also got cosy on the coast and posed for pics on a yacht in the Med.
Silva, who was reportedly urged by Neymar to move to Chelsea, is set to begin training with Frank Lampard this week.

The Blues’ season-opener at Brighton on Monday may come too soon for the defender’s debut, however.

When his transfer to West London was confirmed, Isabelle wrote: “In the life of a professional player, things usually change ‘overnight’, and with us it was no different.
“God prepared everything in the smallest detail, in the best possible way!
“Congratulations Thiago, you are phenomenal, a ‘monster’, literally.
“I wish for you to build a very successful career, as you always have, because you deserve it!! Congratulations.”

Chelsea star Fikayo Tomori ‘nearing Everton transfer on season-long loan’… and could it mean Declan Rice signing?

CHELSEA defender Fikayo Tomori is nearing a season-long loan move to Everton, reports say.
The 22-year-old centre-back enjoyed a breakthrough season under Frank Lampard, making 22 appearances.

    1

Fikayo Tomori is nearing a season long loan move to Everton
But with Thiago Silva, 35, arriving on a free transfer this summer, it has created less space in Chelsea’s backline.
Lampard is also plotting a move for West Ham’s £80million rated midfielder Declan Rice – who the manager is believed to want as a centre-back.
To ensure Tomori has regular football in the upcoming campaign, Lampard is exploring the possibility of him spending a season out on loan.
According to ESPN, Everton are frontrunners to sign the defender with a deal almost in place.

Rennes and Newcastle have also registered an interest.
Tomori has had two consecutive seasons under Lampard, having been loaned out to Derby two years ago.
The Blues boss is a big fan of the England international, who signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea in December.
Lampard wants the centre-half to receive more Premier League football and feels a loan move is the club’s best option.

He was close to joining Everton last summer, until David Luiz left for Arsenal, meaning Tomori was needed in the Chelsea squad.
Michy Batshuayi is also close to sealing a loan move away, joining Crystal Palace for the season.
The Belgian has also signed a new one-year extension a Stamford Bridge, meaning they will not lose him for nothing next summer.
Chelsea hope a successful loan spell could clubs to make a permanent move for Batshuayi.

Chelsea struggling to offload flop Tiemoue Bakayoko with Blues’ £31.7m transfer valuation putting off AC Milan

CHELSEA’S attempts to bring in cash to offset their summer spending spree are being hampered by AC Milan refusing to meet their asking price for Tiemoue Bakayoko.
The Blues have splashed out in excess of £230million on signings ahead of the new season and are looking to recoup some cash by offloading their unwanted stars.

    1

Bakayoko, 26, is one they are desperate to flog with Milan willing buyers – but the club are stalling over meeting their £31.6m valuation.
Chelsea want a £4.5m loan fee to cover this season with an option to buy next summer inserted for a further £27m.
But Milan are working to a tight budget following the Covid-19 pandemic and say they will only go to £22.6m as the option price, bringing the total value of the deal just over £27m.
French club Lyon had been interested but it is believed Bakayoko prefers a return to Milan, where he spent the 2018/19 season on loan.

Chelsea believe they can reach an agreement with Milan over the coming weeks but the deadlock is delaying their plans to start bringing in money with player sales.
Having wrapped up the signings of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz, Frank Lampard still has his eyes on two more players before the window closes.
The club is close to reaching an agreement with Rennes for the £18m capture of Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
That would see him rival Kepa Arrizabalaga for the position as first choice with the Blues so far unable to find anyone prepared to pay up to £50m for the Spanish stopper.

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is another in Lampard’s sights but Chelsea may need to sell more stars to finance a deal with their London rivals valuing the England star at £80m.

Chelsea legend Nicolas Anelka claims Blues have a ‘great chance’ of winning Premier League after ‘quality’ signings

NICOLAS ANELKA says Chelsea have a great chance of winning the Premier League this season after an impressive transfer window.
The Blues have spent around £200million this summer on the signings of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr and Kai Havertz.

    1

Former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka believes Frank Lampard’s side can challenge for the Premier League title this season
Chelsea finished 33 points behind champions Liverpool last season, but Anelka believes the new faces in Frank Lampard’s squad can help his former club challenge for top spot this term.
Anelka told Stadium Astro: “I think they have a great chance to win the title.
“It depends on what Liverpool and Manchester City will do as well.
“But he’s got the quality to finish fourth in the league last season and, with the signings, he’s got the quality to win it.

“It depends after in terms of the experience of the players whether they are strong enough to race until the end but the quality is in Chelsea as well.
“So I believe first, second or third. We will see a great Chelsea at the end.

“You need something more to win the title.
“If you look Liverpool and you look at City, they have young and experienced players.

“I think Frank is clever, he knew what he needed to be able to win and compete against big teams and you need experience.
“When I was playing for Chelsea and Arsenal, we had a young team but also experienced players.
“You still have space for the youngsters to play, they just have to be strong mentally to compete every week.
“This is football, you always have to compete to be able to play. When you’re at a big club, it’s like that.”

Anelka scored 59 goals in 184 appearances for Chelsea after joining the club from Bolton in January 2008.
The Frenchman won the Premier League and two FA Cups during his time at Stamford Bridge, as well as the 2008-09 Golden Boot.
Chelsea start their 2020-21 Premier League campaign away at Brighton on September 14.

Man Utd boss Solskjaer ‘held talks with Timo Werner in Berlin’ before striker snubbed him to make Chelsea transfer

MANCHESTER UNITED manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held talks with Timo Werner – before the striker joined Chelsea.
Werner, 24, was subject to interest from a host of Premier League clubs – including champions Liverpool – who wanted to meet his £47.5million release clause.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer travelled to Berlin to try and convince Werner to join Man Utd
According to Bild, United boss Solskjaer travelled to Berlin to try and convince the forward to join Old Trafford.
City manager Pep Guardiola is also said to have contacted Werner personally in an attempt to prize him over to the blue half of Manchester.
Ultimately Werner signed for Chelsea in June after Liverpool opted against making a move for the German.
The player admitted Chelsea boss Frank Lampard played a major role in his choice to pen a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Werner said: “He [Lampard] was the main point.
“We talked a lot about things like the system, how he wants to play and sees me playing, and how the system fits me.
“He is a really nice guy who not only told me what he wants from me as a player because he wants to help me as a guy.
“He knows me now a little bit better and it fits very well between us and now I am happy to be here.”

Werner has now been joined by international team-mate Kai Havertz, who joined in a £70m deal.
The 21-year-old too revealed Lampard convinced him to join Chelsea.
Havertz said: “Of course he had a big impact on my decision because I loved him as a player and watched him very often, and I think I can learn from him now he is a manager as well.
“I think he is a very humble person and a great guy and I can’t wait to play with him and learn from him.
“He was very offensive like me and he loves to score goals, and I love to score goals as well so I think he will help me a lot in my position.
“Also maybe on the things that I can improve and I can’t wait to work with him.”

Thiago Silva’s greatness can rub off on Chelsea starlet Ethan Ampadu, claims Wales boss Ryan Giggs

ETHAN AMPADU has been urged to stay at Chelsea and learn the art of defending from Thiago Silva.
Brazilian Thiago, 35, joined Frank Lampard’s side last month on a free from Paris Saint-Germain.

Ryan Giggs hopes Thiago Silva can help the Welshman achieve success in West London
Teen star Ampadu is back at Stamford Bridge following a season-long loan in Germany with RB Leipzig.
And the Wales ace, who starred in the 1-0 Nations League victory over Finland on Thursday in his first international game at centre-back, has been tipped by national boss Ryan Giggs to develop under Thiago’s knowledge and experience.
Giggs’ side face Bulgaria in Cardiff on Sunday. And when asked if Ampadu can learn from his new club-mate, he said: “Oh yeah. He’s been a quality centre-back for the last 15 years.
“When you see a player like that in training and games, you can only learn from it.

“Ethan definitely will, along with the other talented players at Chelsea.”
Following his stint in the Bundesliga versatile Ampadu — who can also play in midfield — is willing to fight for his Chelsea place despite interest from numerous clubs to go out on loan again.
The 19-year-old has been plagued by a back injury, linked to growing pains, which meant he only played seven times for the Germans.
But the former Exeter man’s last appearance made an impression on Giggs.

I want all the players to be playing regularly but that sometimes isn’t the case.
    Ryan Giggson Ethan Ampadu

He lined up in a back three for Leipzig in February’s 1-0 Champions League last-16 first-leg win over Tottenham.
Giggs said: “I want all the players to be playing regularly but that sometimes isn’t the case.
“It’s that balance over whether they’re at a top club and surrounded by top players and improving every day but ultimately you need minutes on the pitch.
“That’s a decision for Ethan. I’ve talked to him about it a lot. Last year was maybe a little bit different as he had injuries.
“You could see from the game against Tottenham he was outstanding.
“Nothing fazes him, he’s a quality player and he just needs to keep fit now and he will get minutes wherever he is.
“I wanted to try Ethan at centre-back because he does give you a different option with how comfortable he is on the ball.
“He has played more in midfield, which he can do as well. I was really impressed. He brings that calmness, he gets us up the pitch and he’s got composure on the ball.

Wayne Hennessey believes the former Manchester United star is the ideal coach for AmpaduCredit: Reuters
“I haven’t really pigeonholed a position for him — he can play in defence or midfield.”
Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey said: “With the style of play that Ryan has got us playing Ethan is fantastic to have at the back.
“He’s comfortable on the ball, a good talker and he leads well from the defence.
“He is the kind of player who you can give the ball to in any circumstance. He plays really well with the players around him.
“From a goalkeeper’s perspective he is fantastic to have around.”
Ampadu could be joined in Giggs’ side by David Brooks after the Bournemouth winger recovered from an ankle injury to link up with the Wales squad in Cardiff on Friday.
Giggs added: “It’s great news and a bonus.
“He had a slight injury last weekend training with Bournemouth so we were just monitoring him with the hope he would be able to join up.

“The scan came back clear and he’s fine.
“You could see in training in a small-sided game the way he glides past players, he’s a delight to work with.
“He gives us a different option and hopefully he can get back to the form where he was player of the season for us two years ago.”

Chelsea flop Tiemoue Bakayoko close to £2.6m loan to AC Milan with Blues including £27m option to buy in transfer deal

AC MILAN ‘are now close’ to agreeing a £2.6million loan move to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko from Chelsea with a £27m option to make the deal permanent.
The 26-year-old impressed in Italy two seasons ago during a year-long loan at the San Siro.

And after he made 23 appearances on loan at Monaco last term, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen to shift the midfielder.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Milan are in the final stages of sealing a deal to sign Bakayoko which gives them the option to buy him for £27m after an initial loan fee.
The Blues have already added Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz to their squad this year.
It leaves Lampard is need of a summer clear out and Bakayoko is among those unwanted.

The Frenchman was part of Chelsea’s pre-season squad last term with plans to allow the Frenchman the chance to fight for his place.
But after a disappointing summer he was loaned back to Monaco, the club he was signed from for £40m in 2017.
Having had two consecutive loan spells, Chelsea are now keen to sell him permanently.

But Milan are reluctant to strike a deal to pay out for him immediately, and will have the upcoming campaign to decide whether they will sign Bakayoko permanently.

They are also closing in on agreeing a deal to extend Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s San Siro stay by a year – having joined the Italian’s on a one-year deal last summer.
It comes after Milan announced the loan signing of Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid.
