Chelsea legend Ashley Cole reveals Ben Chilwell sought him out for advice ahead of £50million move from Leicester

CHELSEA legend Ashley Cole has revealed that Ben Chilwell spoke to him and asked for advice before his big-money move from Leicester City.
Chilwell joined the Blues last summer for £50million – as the West London side splashed around £230million on new talent.

And appearing on Sky Sports as a pundit for England’s Nations League match against Belgium on Sunday, Cole revealed he told the left-back to continue to work hard and to maintain a winning mentality.

Cole said: “I think coming into a young team probably helped him, but from minute one, he was hungry to prove that he was good enough.
“That’s what he said to me, that he wants to come here, hit the ground running, ‘what do I have to do?’

“I said: ‘Listen, just keep working hard and want to play for the club, want to win,’ and straight away, he’s come in and done that.
“I think Chelsea look defensively better with him. Again, they have that better balance.
“I think he can handle the ball in every area – defensively, in the middle-third, he can deal with it and of course, attacking-wise, he can cross, he can shoot, he can combine. He’s got it all.”

Chilwell started for the Three Lions against Belgium on Sunday night.

However, he was forced off through injury after just 38 minutes and was seen holding his back as he limped off the pitch.
The injury will leave Chelsea boss Frank Lampard sweating over his defender’s fitness with the Blues facing Newcastle at St James’s Park in their next game.

Emerson Palmieri drops Chelsea transfer hint by revealing Serie A return hope as he targets spot in Italy’s Euro squad

CHELSEA left back Emerson Palmieri has dropped a transfer hint of a return to Serie A.
The Italian international, 26, is aware that a move away from Stamford Bridge – where he has dropped down the pecking order – will boost his chances of selection for Italy’s Euro 2020 squad.

Palmieri signed for the West London side from Roma in 2018, but has failed to nail down a first team spot.
Since then, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has brought in Ben Chilwell from Leicester City for £50million.
And despite starting for Italy on Wednesday in their 4-0 defeat of Estonia, manager Roberto Mancini has stressed he needs to play if he wants to continue to be selected.

“Here at the national team I play, I have fun and I’m fine”, Emerson told CalcioMercato.
“The coach told me that the best solution for me is to play, at Chelsea or in another team, let’s wait for the next two months and see what will happen.
“Unfortunately I’m not playing at Chelsea, but I’m calm, I think things can improve in London or in another place.

“There was some interest in me but not concrete things. I’d like to return to play in Italy but I can’t say if it will happen in January or in five years.”

The Brazilian-born defender has appeared 59 times for the Blues since arriving at the club for £18million.
Palmieri has also earned 10 caps for his country, and has been linked with a move to Juventus.

Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner can make Frank Lampard’s Chelsea a ‘powerful’ force this season, claims Cesc Fabregas

CESC FABREGAS believes Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner can make Frank Lampard’s Chelsea a ‘powerful’ force this season.
The pair were both signed during the last campaign, but have hit the ground running this term.

Ex-Blue Fabregas – who joined in 2014 and left last year – hailed playmaker Ziyech for his creativity which Chelsea were desperately lacking last season.
He told 90Min: “He has this vision that you need in a top team like Chelsea who wants to win and be champions.
“It’s true that they were a team a little bit lacking ideas in the last season and maybe at the beginning of this season.
“But yeah, with Ziyech, you can see that he has this last pass and it’s not only that he sees it, it’s that he makes it right and at the right time.

“This is the decision-making we talk about nowadays. Why are coaches so tactical?
“Because they see that the decision-making of the players is not that good so they need to teach them always what to do.
“You know, before, I believe coaches were not so much on top of the player because they felt maybe that there wasn’t so much need because they felt maybe that there wasn’t so much need because already the players sort it by themselves.”

Ziyech has made seven appearances this season since missing the start with a knee injury.

The 27-year-old, signed from Ajax, has two goal and three assists.
And he has made a formidable partnership with Werner, who arrived from RB Leipzig, and has since scored eight in 12 matches.
Fabregas explained Ziyech’s ability to pick a pass for the pacey German striker will be a key to Chelsea’s success.
He said: “I think he’s one of these players that makes things happen.
“Things that, when the defenders or the centre-backs don’t expect you to make that pass and you catch them sleeping.
“And you have someone like Timo Werner making great runs in behind and I think this is where Chelsea could be so powerful this year.”

Chelsea new boy Timo Werner is ‘already up there’ with Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane, claims team-mate Ben Chilwell

TIMO WERNER is on a par with Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy, according to Ben Chilwell.
The English duo have been among the Premier League’s top strikers for almost half a decade, both surpassing a century of goals.

After signing for Chelsea in the summer for £53million, German forward Werner is still finding his feet in the division.
But the 24-year-old has smashed seven goals in his last six games, having failed to score in his opening four league appearances.
And Chilwell, who has played with Kane and Vardy for England and Leicester, believes Werner is of a similar ilk.

He told Soccer AM: “He’s up there with [Kane and Vardy] and he can go on to be absolutely world class for a long time, the next ten years or so.
“I think when you look at his age and how prolific he is in front of goal, even now his stats at Chelsea he’s scored a lot of goals already.”
Werner impressed his new team-mates when scoring penalties against Rennes and Krasnodar in the Champions League.

How the PL’s best transfer XI for this summer line up
Following Jorginho’s misses from the spot, the German has taken over Chelsea’s 12-yard responsibility and hasn’t looked back.

He added: “We were talking on the bench after I’d come off [against Rennes] how good his penalties are.
“In front of goal he is so good.
“He has similar characteristics to both Vardy and Kane.

“In terms of running the channels and how quick he is, he’s similar to Vardy.
“With Harry, his link-up play and finishing is similar so he’s definitely in a category with those two.
“At Chelsea, we’re very lucky to have him.”

Chelsea star Thiago Silva suffering from ‘terrible headache’ due to Prem’s ‘non-stop aerial duels and very high pace’

CHELSEA star Thiago Silva revealed he is suffering from a ‘terrible headache’ thanks to the Premier League’s ‘non-stop aerial duels and very high pace’.
The veteran Brazilian defender, 36, arrived at Stamford Bridge for free from Paris Saint-Germain over the summer and signed a one-year deal.

As reported by The Athletic, Silva said: “After my last two games, I’ve had a terrible headache because there are non-stop aerial duels and a very high pace of play.”
Chelsea’s last two Premier League matches have seen Frank Lampard’s side beat Sheffield United 4-1 and Burnley 3-0.
Silva headed home Chelsea’s third goal in a convincing rout of the Blades at home on Saturday that Lampard labelled his side’s best performance of the season so far.

It was his first goal for the Blues and marked a solid start to his first few months in West London.
Silva captained the side on his Prem debut against promoted West Brom in September but began terribly.
The Baggies incredibly scored three goals in just 30 first-half minutes to shock Silva and Co.
And the skipper on the day had a personal nightmare when his calamitous slip allowed Callum Robinson to fire West Brom’s second past Willy Caballero.

But experienced Silva bounced back with three consecutive clean sheets in his next three Prem appearances with wins over Crystal Palace and Burnley plus a draw at Old Trafford.

Silva has conceded four goals in five league games, with three clean sheets and one goal.
He was rested for Chelsea’s Champions League game away at Krasnodar but started at home against Sevilla and Rennes – helping his side to another two clean sheets.
The addition of former AC Milan star Silva and ex-Rennes shot-stopper Edouard Mendy has helped Lampard fix his leaky defence after his side conceded the most goals in the top half of the Premier League last season.
And boss Lampard also revealed Silva is improving off the pitch after making positive strides forward in his effort to learn English.

Five Chelsea transfers likely to go ahead in January with FOUR players leaving and Declan Rice coming in

WE are well aware of what a great summer Chelsea had in the transfer market in terms of player arrivals at the club.
Frank Lampard needed to add a number of quality players to his squad in order to improve and push on from last season, and he has been fully backed by the board with this.

Frank Lampard will be looking to shift some dead wood in JanuaryCredit: Reuters

But they have been left with a rather large squad as a result, having failed to oust a number of fringe players.
In January we are very likely to see the departures of the following four players at least.
    Marcos Alonso
Emerson Palmieri appears to be the designated second choice left back for Lampard this season, so it is unlikely that we will see him leave.
But Alonso looks to be well and truly out of favour under Lampard and as a result, he will be out the door come winter as well.

He has been linked with a number of Italian and Spanish sides and will probably go on loan to one of them for the rest of the season having still got a relatively long contract (2023) left with Chelsea.

    Olivier Giroud
I always feared for the French World Cup winner when Timo Werner arrived, and I knew he would have to largely be third choice striker.
He will need more than this with his aims to carry on leading the line for France, so he will surely be asking to leave in January as a result.

His contract runs out in the summer, so it will be a fee of very little to sell him this winter.

    Kepa Arrizabalaga
I don’t entirely buy into the ‘Petr Cech was added to the Chelsea squad due to the uncertainty of Covid-19’ story from the club, especially when they have a number of decent academy goalkeepers who can be drafted in if needed.
No, I believe they know what is coming, and that is a loan move out for Kepa.
A lot like Giroud, the Spanish international will have to get regular game time or risk losing his place in the coming Euros.
With Edouard Mendy nailing down a regular spot at Chelsea, Kepa must leave to get game time.

Kepa could be loaned out by the Blues in JanuaryCredit: PA:Press Association
    Fikayo Tomori
The curious case of Fikayo Tomori. For the second season running, he started as a potential regular, but since then he has become fourth or fifth choice centre-back.
Is there something we do not know about behind the scenes?
Perhaps, but I believe he will absolutely go on loan this January i order to get first team football.
Everton have been strongly linked and could enter the fray once again.

Fikayo Tomori coiuld be heading out on loan – with Everton interestedCredit: Reuters
    Arrival – Declan Rice
There might be more than one arrival at Chelsea in January, but that will depend on circumstances with the current climate, and if Chelsea can sell any players.
But one thing for sure is, expect another move from Chelsea to try and sign Declan Rice.
He is firmly wanted by Lampard, and the board is prepared to sanction the move.
They face a battle to sign him though, with West Ham obviously not interested in selling at all, but the player is keen on the move and could be tempted to try and force it this time around.

Moment Chelsea star Jorginho hands Werner ball to take penalty as Lampard confirms German is new spot-kick taker

THIS is the moment that signalled a changing of the guard at Stamford Bridge.
Regular penalty-taker and vice-captain Jorginho, 28, handed the ball to star summer signing Timo Werner on boss Frank Lampard’s orders.

⚠️ Read our Chelsea live blog for the very latest news from the Bridge

Chelsea’s Jorginho hands the ball to Timo Werner after the Blues were awarded a penalty
It could not have been a smoother passing of the baton as German ace Werner, 24, bagged TWO pens in the 3-0 Champions League win over Rennes.
Both spot-kicks came in the first-half as the Blues continued their unbeaten run in Europe and kept their fifth consecutive clean sheet with Edouard Mendy in goal against his old side.
Ex-RB Leipzig forward Werner smashed his first into the bottom left corner before sending his second the same way but high into the top corner of the net.

Former Napoli midfielder Jorginho has long been the No1 man from 12 yards and netted his first eight pens for the Blues.
But the Italian international has missed two in less than a month – against Liverpool and Krasnodar.
And after Chelsea won another pen out in Russia, Werner stepped up and buried his strike against Krasnodar.
Lampard had previously revealed he was toying with the idea of changing his penalty-taker.

And following Wednesday night’s win over Champions League debutants Rennes, he confirmed he had wielded the axe.

Lampard said: “I spoke with Jorginho first because he’s been brilliant taking penalties in his career and for us.
“And it has more been missing a couple recently that I felt it was time to have a change.
“And Jorgi’s answer was as professional as I would expect in terms of he only wants us to score.”
Chelsea’s second penalty was controversially awarded after Dalbert Henrique was shown a second yellow card for handball.
Despite profiting, Lampard admitted he wasn’t too happy about the application of the laws in Europe.

He added: “It probably goes along with the rules in the Champions League that the decision gets given today.
“I’m not sure… they are not the rules now that we are going by in the Premier League and I’m not completely happy with them.
“And if I was the manager of Rennes today then I wouldn’t have been happy with them either.
“It was one that worked in our favour today but I’m not mad on the rule itself.”

Frank Lampard says he will have a nice little talk with Jorginho but he still has confidence in him More

Chelsea keep fifth clean sheet in a row – their best record since 2010 as Lampard fixes defensive woes

CHELSEA kept their fifth consecutive clean sheet for the first time since 2010.
The Blues thumped Rennes 3-0 in the Champions League last night meaning they have not conceded since drawing 3-3 against Southampton three weeks ago.

That day calamity keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was between the posts, but summer signing Edouard Mendy – bought from Rennes – has turned around Chelsea’s fortunes.
So too has Thiago Silva, who arrived on a free transfer from PSG, with the Brazilian helping shape Lampard’s backline.
Mendy has kept six out of seven clean sheets so far, with only Erik Lamela’s league cup goal on his debut getting past the Senegal international.
He became the first Chelsea keeper since Petr Cech in 2004 to not concede in his opening three Premier League matches.

The Blues five successive clean sheets is their best record since September-October 2010 under Carlo Ancelotti.
Current technical and performance advisor Cech and manager Lampard both featured in that season ten years ago.
Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Paulo Ferreira, Alex, and Jose Bosingwa also made up a rotating defence.

Cech – who has been named as an emergency player this season – helped recruit Mendy during the window.

And boss Lampard praised his ‘low maintenance’ personality, a stark contrast to blundering Kepa.
He said: “I think what he’s shown so far has been very complete.
“Those clean sheets have shown big parts of his game.
“He’s made saves in moments in games that have certainly helped us, where if the goal had gone in the games could have gone another way.
“He’s very low maintenance, he works hard, wants to work more, and he’s eager to engage with team-mates and myself — he has a smile on his face and has played well.” More
