Chelsea have instant transfer replacement for Jorginho in Billy Gilmour who is already ‘mature’ – says Glenn Hoddle

BILLY GILMOUR can be Chelsea’s midfield general for years to come, according to former Blues hero Glenn Hoddle. The 63-year-old believes the young Scot has already made a great case to replace Jorginho in Thomas Tuchel’s line-up.

The Italian, along with Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante, starred in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph with Gilmour making a handful of appearances in the latter weeks of the season.
But the Scotland star’s performance against England at Euro 2020 showed that he is ready for more Blues action, in the eyes of Hoddle.
The former Chelsea player-manager told Betfair: “Billy Gilmour had a good game, and there’s still more to come, but it was his first game and he was excellent.
“He can only grow and get better. He’s not really match fit, so he’s going to get better.
“He keeps the ball well and he’s such a young player. He showed a lot of maturity.
“He’s instantly the replacement for Jorginho at Chelsea, they won’t have to look in the market for someone because he is already there, learning and developing into a great player.”

Jorginho has also enjoyed a strong start to the Euros, starting all three of Italy’s wins in Group A.
And the midfielder, 29, is intent on remaining in Chelsea next season despite a number of previous links with a Serie A return.
Meanwhile, Gilmour has been ruled out of Scotland’s Group D decider with coronavirus.
The 0-0 draw with England led to much of the Wembley faithful unhappy but Hoddle has called for calm.
The manager of the Three Lions’ 1998 World Cup campaign insisted that the knockouts are all that matters and could also suit this team’s style more.
He noted: “We’ve got four points and we’re in a good position to qualify.
We still look vulnerable to the top teams defensively but playing them might be our strength as well. Glenn Hoddle

“No one remembers the group stages when you get to the quarters and semi-finals.
“We still look vulnerable to the top teams defensively but playing them might be our strength as well.
“They’ll open up and attack us and this England team might cause people problems with time and space to use the ball.
“Both teams they’ve played against have dropped back and England found it hard to break through.”

Chelsea confirm Fikayo Tomori permanent transfer exit for £25m to AC Milan after his impressive loan spell

FIKAYO TOMORI has joined AC Milan on a permanent transfer after the Italian side enacted a clause to sign the centre-back.Chelsea loaned the defender to the San Siro giants in January and he impressed in the club’s run to second place in Serie A.
Fikayo Tomori hailed his move to AC Milan with this Instagram post

In 22 appearances, Tomori won over many fans, some of whom called for Gareth Southgate to include him in England’s Euro 2020 squad.
The loan deal contained a £25million option to permanently sign the player, which was taken up by Milan.
Tomori signs on a four-year contract in a move confirmed on Thursday.
Coming through the Chelsea ranks, he won the FA Youth Cup on two occasions before a debut in 2016.
Loan spells at Brighton, Hull and Derby followed and then-Rams boss Frank Lampard handed him a year in the Blues first-team after taking over in West London.
But Tomori play just 45 minutes in the league last season amid the arrival of Thiago Silva, and was allowed to leave midway through the campaign.
A statement from the Premier League club read: “Chelsea is grateful to Fikayo for his contributions at the club, from youth level to men’s first-team squad, and wishes him the very best in his future career.”
It had been suggested that Milan wanted to negotiate down the pre-agreed fee with Chelsea.

The defender thanked Chelsea after over a decade on the club’s books

But the Rossoneri have shown how highly they value the 23-year-old, who ousted club captain Alessio Romagnoli from his spot in the defence.
The fee makes Tomori the second most expensive purchase for the club since Elliott Management Corporation took over in 2018.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan plan on going back to Chelsea and accelerating their bid for Olivier Giroud now the Tomori deal is done.

FIKAYO TOMORI has joined AC Milan permanently after they triggered his £24million transfer clause following a successful loan spell. Tomori joined the Italians in January as he looked for more regular football having been frozen out by Chelsea.

And the centre-back impressed heavily in his five months in Milan, where he made 22 appearances, even scoring a goal.
His form convinced manager Stefano Pioli to make a move to sign Tomori on a permanent deal.
And Pioli had the backing to do so from legendary defender Paulo Maldini, the club’s current technical director.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tomori will join on a five-year deal after his transfer clause was triggered.
Maldini has been a big part in the 23-year-old’s development in Serie A and spoke to him before and after every match.
Tomori told The Times in March: “You feel [Maldini’s] presence.
“As much as I’m playing for myself and for the team and the manager, I want to impress him.
“It’s like if you were an attacker and one day Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi was your sporting director and saying these words for you. It’s crazy.

“Before every game, he talks and says come on and says well done after. If I haven’t played well he’s still there saying well done.”
Tomori made 22 appearances in Frank Lampard’s first season at Chelsea after returning to the club as manager in 2019.
But a year later, Lampard signed Brazilian veteran Thiago Silva, 36, on a free transfer from PSG.
It saw Tomori fall further down the defensive pecking order and following just four appearances last term, he moved to Milan.
During that time, Lampard was replaced by German Thomas Tuchel, who reverted to a back three and later won the Champions League.
But it appears Tuchel had no plans to bring Tomori back, allowing Milan to make a move for their man.

Chelsea keen on Jude Bellingham and ‘hope Erling Haaland pursuit will help them pull off transfer’

DEALS for Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland could intertwine in a busy summer for Chelsea, according to reports. The Blues are long-term admirers of the Borussia Dortmund pair and tried to sign Bellingham, 17, before he moved to Germany.

That interest has not gone away following his quick adaptation to playing for one of the Bundesliga’s top clubs.
But the Blues will have to tread carefully in dealing with Dortmund, in the knowledge that they also hold the key to the future of Haaland.
As reported by Goal, Chelsea hope a good relationship can be struck up with the German team.
If they can find a mutually-beneficial route to signing Haaland, there is said to be optimism that Borussia will be more open to doing a deal for Bellingham further down the road.
In the past, the clubs have not seen eye to eye after Chelsea turned down bids for Kevin De Bruyne and Michy Batshuayi.
And managing relationships will certainly be key to bringing a new striker to Stamford Bridge with agent Mino Raiola such a big figure in Haaland’s camp.

A move for the Norwegian this summer will be expensive but the Blues are aware that he can be signed for a reduced release clause in 2022.
Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City are all in the running for what could be a £65million deal next year.
Chelsea also have Harry Kane on their radar but do not hold the best of relationships with Tottenham, reinforcing Daniel Levy’s desire not to sell the England forward.

Meanwhile, Bellingham is reportedly in talks to sign a new contract in Germany.
Dortmund are preparing to double the midfielder’s wages while extending his stay to 2025.

And that would then put Gallagher on the spot as he wants to stay at Chelsea and try to impress boss Thomas Tuchel so he can be part of his long-term plans.
If Blues’ money men are willing to sell Gallagher that will mark his card and could push him towards his fan club at Palace.
Gallagher showed he could handle the Prem in a loan season at West Brom.
They won the chase for him when Palace took Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi instead and were unable to buy or loan him at the time.
The Eagles have cash for new faces and need more legs in midfield.
Gallagher is seen as a player who can be pivotal for years to come.

Cesc Fabregas reveals he left Chelsea because of ‘smart and intelligent’ Jorginho after pulling strings for Italy

CESC FABREGAS revealed he left Chelsea in 2019 after being driven out of the side by Jorginho – who he hailed as ‘very smart’ and ‘intelligent’. Italian Jorginho was brought to Stamford Bridge by Maurizio Sarri in 2018 after they both joined from Napoli.

But it saw him replace Spaniard Fabregas, who had already won two Premier League titles and one FA Cup with Chelsea.
As a result, the former Arsenal skipper was sold that January, joining Monaco, where he remains today.
But he was on pundit duty for the BBC as Italy opened the delayed European Championship with a 3-0 win over Turkey.
His former team-mate Jorginho was at the heart of midfield, and won the praise of Fabregas as he opened up on his Stamford Bridge departure.
He said: “One of the biggest reasons I left Chelsea is because of him. He’s a very smart player, intelligent, a very good passer of the ball.
“The only thing I can say about him sometimes is he releases the ball too quickly when he can play forward. He makes the team tick.
“At Chelsea, he has N’Golo Kante protecting him all the time, and I know that’s a big thing, I don’t know here how he will cope at a big, big game at the Euros.
“He’s a really good player and tactically, he knows what to do because of the coach’s methodology, it helps him a lot.”

Since Fabregas’ transfer, Jorginho, 29, has helped Chelsea to a Europa League and Champions League trophy.
Fabregas, 34, meanwhile was in and out of Monaco’s side last season having battled injuries, making 26 appearances in total.
When he signed for the French side, he appeared to take a parting shot at manager Sarri for his preferential treatment of Jorginho.
Fabregas said at the time: “I was at Chelsea and I could have renewed my contract to stay there.
“A new coach came and he came with a player that, for him, was like his son.
“For me it was difficult to play every single game – this is what I want to do. I love football. When I played for Chelsea, I’m happy.
“[But] it was impossible to play every match – for whatever reason it was.”

The star striker’s impressive performances has led to interest from some of Europe’s top hitters.
Among those keeping tabs on the Belgium international are Chelsea, with the Blues on the lookout for a centre-forward as Timo Werner failed to convince in his maiden season at Stamford Bridge.
However, the 28-year-old downplayed a potential comeback as he admitted he had a hard time in west London.
The Belgian star has also expressed his desire to stay at Inter despite their financial difficulties.

Lukaku told HLN when asked to choose between his current employers and the Blues: “Inter. Inter. I have won a title with Inter.
“That was a childhood dream too. At one team I had success, at the other one it was a failure.”
Lukaku joined Chelsea from Anderlecht in 2011 and spent three years in the Blues’ books, two of which saw him getting loaned out to West Brom and Everton who signed him on a permanent deal in 2014.

Rudiger ‘considering quitting Chelsea in free transfer next summer as he pushes to be one of top 10 earners at club’

CHELSEA ace Antonio Rudiger is considering leaving next year as a free agent unless he is offered a better deal.Rudiger joined the Blues from Roma in 2017 and quickly turned into one of the team’s key figures in defence but his current contract runs out on June 2022.

According to The Athletic, the star centre-back is in no rush to discuss his future at Stamford Bridge because he wishes to focus on Euro 2020 where he represents Germany.
But the 28-year-old also understands that whatever contract he signs next will probably be his career’s last big one.
Therefore, the Germany international wants a four-year deal that would make him one of Chelsea’s top 10 earners.
Rudiger is currently outside the top 10 even though he has played a major role in the Blues’ recent success.

The German was part of the team that won the FA Cup in 2018, the Europa League a year later and the Champions League in May.

This doesn’t seem to be sitting well with the former Stuttgart ace, who is also among Chelsea’s leaders in the dressing room.
