      Roman Abramovich has £5.4bn assets FROZEN in Channel Island of Jersey in latest blow to Russian billionaire

      CHELSEA owner Roman Abramovich has had £5.4billion worth of assets frozen in Jersey.The UK Government sanctioned the 55-year-old last month after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

      The billionaire, who bought Chelsea in 2003, was described by them as a “pro-Kremlin oligarch” and he was also sanctioned by the EU.
      That led to Abramovich putting the Premier League giants up for sale as the Government handed them a special licence to keep operating.
      Now he has been hit by a freezing order in the Channel Islands while local police also searched premises that are “suspected to be connected” to Abramovich on Tuesday.

      The Jersey Law Officers’ Department released a statement today that read: “Search warrants were executed by the States of Jersey Police on Tuesday 12 April 2022 at premises in Jersey suspected to be connected to the business activities of Roman Abramovich.
      “The Royal Court also imposed a formal freezing order on 12 April, known as a saisie judiciaire, over assets understood to be valued in excess of US$7 billion which are suspected to be connected to Mr Abramovich and which are either located in Jersey or owned by Jersey incorporated entities.”
      Raine Group is overseeing the sale of Chelsea.
      They have now shortlisted four bids to try and take over from Abramovich.

      And unfortunately for James and Chelsea the drama was not over as Benzema headed home six minutes into it to win it 5-4 on aggregate.
      England full-back James, despite being booked early, was Chelsea’s star performer throughout the second leg.

      And if we thought that Sunday’s Manchester City versus Liverpool clash was as good as this game could get, well last night we were all forced to think again.
      Because not only did Chelsea overturn that two-goal deficit, with ten minutes to go they were actually leading on aggregate and had one foot in the semi-finals.
      But in the end their Herculean efforts proved just too much to withstand as the runaway LaLiga leaders snatched victory from the jaws of a humiliating defeat.
      Tuchel had complained before this game that his team were at a physical disadvantage as a consequence of playing more games than any other team in Europe and not having the luxury of five subs per game.

      Yet it wasn’t until the 83rd minute of this monumental slog that he made his first change as his players finally ran out of steam.
      And he still hadn’t used his full complement of five when the whistle finally blew after 120 minutes of absolute mayhem.
      After strolling to victory at the Bridge last week, Real were far less comfortable with the concept of an opponent coming to the Bernabeu and not simply rolling over.

      It was the England star’s first Champions League goal since the 2-0 win against these same opponents in last year’s semi-final at the Bridge.
      And it left the Bernabeu stunned into silence, with the only noise coming from the travelling Chelsea fans up in the gods.

      All of a sudden we had a real game on our hands as anxious Madridistas were doubting their team’s prospects for the first time.
      Chelsea were growing in confidence, dominating possession and really starting to believe that it was not mission impossible after all.
      After all, it was only three weeks ago that Barcelona had triumphed here 4-0,  so winning by two certainly wasn’t out of the question for a team of Chelsea’s pedigree.
      And while Tuchel’s men knew exactly how they needed to keep playing, Real were suddenly caught between two stools as they dithered over whether to defend their lead or press forward to put the tie to bed.
      But those doubts were taken out of the equation when Chelsea scored again in the 51st minute to leave the 13-time European Champions reeling.
      Luka Modric was adamant that he had not deflected Reece James’ shot for a corner, but Polish referee Szymon Marciniak was adamant the ball had brushed his studs.
      And when Mount delivered a deep cross into the danger zone, Antonio Rudiger simply barged everyone out of his way to bury a thunderous header beyond Thibaut Courtois.
      Doubting Thomas thought he was in dreamland when Marcos Alonso stuck another absolute rocket into the top corner after 62 minutes.
      Marciniak had no doubts that it was a goal and pointed straight to the centre circle.
      But eagle-eyed David Alaba had spotted that the ball had flicked Alonso’s hand before he struck and after a lengthy VAR check the goal was agonisingly ruled out.

      No matter, though, because 13 minutes later Werner twisted his way past Casemiro and Alaba to beat Courtois again. And this time no one was going to deny Chelsea.
      Now all they needed to do was to see out the final 15 minutes and they were through to the semi-finals.
      But the proud Spanish giants were not going out without a fight and ten minutes from time Modric’s exquisite ball with the outside of his boot was volleyed home by substitute Rodrygo.
      It was an absolute body blow for the flagging Blues who were now faced with the prospect of a further 30 minutes of extra-time to stretch them to their mental and physical limits.
      And inevitably it was Benzema, the scorer of a Stamford Bridge hat-trick last week, who finally delivered the coup de grace when he took advantage of Rudiger’s slip to head home Vinicius’ 95th minute cross.
      It was a brilliant end to a magnificent match. And no matter what happens in the remaining games of this competition, nothing is going to top this one.

      But Pagliuca and a group of co-investors only recently bought a controlling stake in Serie A side Atalanta.
      The shareholding could cause complications if Atalanta and Chelsea ever appear in the same European club competition amid Uefa rules.
      If two clubs majority-owned by the same entity face each other in competitions, one would have to agree to forfeit the tie.
      In his statement to Sky News, Pagliuca said his bid for Chelsea would be “substantial and credible – one that we expect will meet the respective requirements and regulations of the Premier League, UK Government and UEFA – and we pledge to honor our commitment to credibility and good guardianship of Chelsea Football Club from day one”.

      Remaining contenders to buy Chelsea must submit final offers for the Stamford Bridge club on April 14.
      According to the PA news agency, New York merchant bank the Raine Group will then hope to present a preferred bidder to Downing Street in the week of April 18.

      And sources close to the Government have revealed Downing Street’s satisfaction in principle with all remaining parties in the battle to buy the club from Abramovich.
      Chicago Cubs owners the Ricketts family and Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly, in partnership with US magnate Mark Walter and British businessman Jonathan Goldstein, have both pushed hard in their bids.
      Boehly’s consortium took a tour of Chelsea’s training ground as they looked to complete an historic takeover.
      The Ricketts family’s bid has drawn criticism among Chelsea supporters in West London.
      A small protest was also staged at Stamford Bridge before Chelsea’s shock 4-1 defeat at the hands of Brentford.
      Blues supporters have objected to controversies around the family including patriarch Joe Ricketts’ Islamophobic statements in leaked emails from 2019.
      Siblings Tom and Laura Ricketts are thought to be considered suitable bid leaders however, owing to their Cubs stewardship and efforts towards community relations and diversity and inclusion in Chicago.
      The bid also boasts major financial backing from two of America’s richest men in Ken Griffin and Dan Gilbert.
      Roman Abramovich has won the lot at Chelsea
      Sir Martin Broughton and Lord Sebastien Coe have teamed up on another bid, while Boston Celtics’ Pagliuca remains in the running.
      Broughton and Coe’s consortium’s bid for Chelsea would find favour in Government, given the duo’s clear establishment links and track record in sporting administration.
      Boston Celtics chief Pagliuca’s track record in the NBA is not thought to generate any concerns in Downing Street either.
      Both the Broughton and Pagliuca consortium offers would likely require divesting of other football club shares, but Government chiefs are understood to expect Raine Group to have already accounted for such detail in whittling down their shortlist.
      Josh Harris and David Blitzer would have to offload their shareholding in Crystal Palace if they are named in the Broughton bid as expected, while Pagliuca would need to reduce his 55 per cent share in Italian club Atalanta.
      The Boehly-Goldstein bid appears to have precious few sticking points from a Government perspective.
      The heads of the four consortiums met with Chelsea’s board executives last week, aiming to gather as much information as possible amid the fine-tuning of their bids.
      Billionaire Abramovich put Chelsea up for sale in March amid Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine.
      The 55-year-old was then sanctioned by the UK Government on March 10, with Downing Street claiming to have proven his links to Russian pal, president Vladimir Putin.

      MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea are favourites to sign Benfica hot shot Darwin Nunez, according to reports.Nunez, 22, has the Premier League big boys on high alert, with Benfica open to selling the Uruguay international.
