Thomas Tuchel says new Chelsea contract ‘beginning of a dynasty’ as heroes arrive home with Champions League trophy

THOMAS TUCHEL says a new two-year deal will be just part of a ‘fantastic beginning’ at Chelsea. The Blues’ head coach held talks with Roman Abramovich hours after leaving celebrations to mark winning the Champions League.

But Tuchel wants to make sure the billionaire Russian owner matches his own ambitions to take the club to the highest level possible.
Chelsea are set to announce the extension for Tuchel – who took over from sacked Frank Lampard in January – as a reward for the club’s second European title.
Tuchel said: “If we really want to build something I’m all in, I can tell you. And I’m happy to talk about it and discuss it. If our beliefs match, we go from there.
“We have to check with the owner if this is his plan, I think it’s possible.
“I think I have a clause that makes my contract a bit longer if I win the League or the Champions League.
“I’m not 100 per cent sure but my manager said it weeks ago, I didn’t check. I said, ‘Let’s talk when it’s the case’.
“Even if we have a longer contract, there are no doubts I want to stay and it’s not the most important thing.
“I’m very happy to be here, it’s a fantastic beginning and we go now for the next one.”

Tuchel’s current 18-month deal expires at the end of next season.
But his rapid transformation of the Blues from mid-table in the Prem into European champions has blown away Abramovich.
The Chelsea squad flew back to the UK on Sunday afternoon after partying in Porto until 8.30am, following their 1-0 win over Premier League champions Manchester City.
But Covid restrictions mean there can be no open-top bus parade in West London.
Winning his first Champions League title will not trigger a transfer spree for Tuchel though.
He said: “Two or three could be very good, but we don’t need another seven and another complete turnover.
“We have some ideas, of course.”
Chelsea have been interested in a reunion with their former striker Romelu Lukaku, now at Serie A champions Inter Milan.
Chelsea could be handed a Champions League group of death in next season’s tournament

Winning the top prize in club football though means even a move for superstar Erling Haaland at Tuchel’s old club Borussia Dortmund is no longer beyond them.
One big move Tuchel definitely is planning is to bring his family to England as his wife and daughters stayed in Paris when he arrived in London in January.
Tuchel said: “We will get a house in the middle of July and my family will come over in August and, of course, this is a huge part.”

Chelsea star Jorginho forced to have beard shaved off after agreeing to bet earlier in season if he won Champions League

The terms were that Caldeira would be able to remove most of Jorginho’s facial hair if Chelsea won the European Cup.
And the former Napoli midfielder would be able to shave off the reporter’s moustache.
Both men were left fresh-faced following the Blues’ 1-0 win against Manchester City with an electric shaver pulled out during the pair’s post-match interview.
Jorginho was first up as he had his beard removed, before Caldeira had his moustache taken off by the ex-Hellas Verona ace.
Both men then were left shocked by their new appearance as they looked at themselves in a phone camera.
Social media was loving the incident, as one fan tweeted: “Jorginho looks cold without beard and with a beard.”
Another commented: “Jorginho without the beard looks like Mount.”
A third added: “Most glorious beard shave ever!”

“I think about everything I’ve gone through during my life and my career.

Former Paris Saint-Germain gaffer Tuchel is set to be handed a new Chelsea contract after the 1-0 victory against City.
According to the Guardian, Chelsea plan to give the German a new two-year deal with an option for a further year.
The 47-year-old met his boss Roman Abramovich for the first time yesterday.
He said: “I am not even 100 per cent sure maybe I have already a new contract now.

He had to wait almost a decade to lift the jug-eared trophy himself which he did as skipper on Saturday following a 1-0 win over Manchester City.
Azpilicueta is now off to the Euros with Spain hoping to win his first major international tournament – before returning to Stamford Bridge aiming to build on the triumph in Porto.
The 31-year-old said: “When you play for a club like Chelsea, you always think about the future.
“That’s done, we are very happy, we will celebrate, we are champions of Europe again after nine years, second time in our history.
“But football is like this, the ones who go to the Euros get a new challenge ahead of us, we will come back in the Premier League, we didn’t finish where we wanted to finish and we want to fight for everything.
“At Chelsea, I always learned that we go for every single game, fight for every single trophy and I’m pleased that I could get my hands on the trophy that I missed before.
“We will celebrate this, for a few days, the whole summer for the ones who don’t have the Euros!
“But that’s gone, we are part of the history of Chelsea and then we will go for the next challenge.”

Kai Havertz’ 42nd-minute winner was enough to see off Pep Guardiola’s lacklustre City, who had surprisingly opted not to play a defensive midfielder.
It was the ultimate team performance from Thomas Tuchel’s team who put their bodies on the line, led by their inspirational skipper.
Chelsea’s season looked to be collapsing in January when Frank Lampard was sacked.
But successor Tuchel managed something remarkable with this victory, along with a top-four spot and an FA Cup final appearance.
Azpilicueta added: “It’s been a difficult, tough season, we ended it in the best way possible. It was well deserved.
“I want to make sure the whole group felt involved, there were only a few of us lucky enough to be on the pitch but the preparation from everybody, the staff, was amazing and I think made the difference.
“Everyone left their ego, they helped the team and that’s the biggest thing for me with the guys up front, Timo (Werner), Kai and Christian (Pulisic) and the work they did for the team was incredible.”

Chelsea are the Champions League winners after beating Manchester City 1-0
Man-of-the-match N’Golo Kante epitomised that selflessness with another omnipresent display.
The quiet Frenchman is now arguably the greatest holding midfielder in Premier League history, having won the competition twice with two different clubs, the FA Cup, the Europa League, the World Cup with France and now the Champions League.
Speaking of his ‘humble’ team-mate, Azpilicueta added: “He does everything with the energy he brings.
“I don’t know how many ball recoveries he had, the way he dragged the ball forward, covered so much ground. It’s special to have him.
“When we didn’t have him, we missed him but of course as well after winning the World Cup, the Champions League, he is still so humble as a person.
“I’m so happy for him because he’s a massive part of this team and after a few years, I’m very happy to have him next to me.”

Chelsea stars pocket whopping £10MILLION bonus as Kai Havertz downs Man City to secure Champions League glory

The Blues’ heroes had already secured a tasty £5m windfall after beating Real Madrid in the semis earlier this month.
But, despite entering Saturday’s showpiece as heavy underdogs, they never looked like losing after Havertz netted two minutes before half time.
And nobody could argue it was fully merited.
Chilwell fed Mount and his diagonal pass embarrassed City, locating the gap between Ruben Dias and Oleksandr Zinchenko, and sending Havertz clean through.

Ederson rushed out of his goal but Havertz rolled it around him, steadied himself and tucked into an empty net.
The bonus package was agreed at the start of the season when nobody gave Chelsea a hope of winning the Champions League for a second time.
And boss Thomas Tuchel praised his stars determination after upsetting the odds one final time in the competition.
The German said: It is unbelievable. What a fight. We made it 1-0.
“You could feel it getting closer. The players were determined to win this.
“We wanted to be a stone in their shoe, the stone in the clock work of Manchester City.
“We encourage everybody to step up and step out, to be more brave and create dangerous counter-attacks.
“It was a tough physical game. We had to help each other out.”
Match-winner Havertz, a £70million summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen, said: “We deserved it – now we celebrate.
“I waited a long time and now I have done it.
“I just want to thank my parents, my sister, my grandmother, and my girlfriend who are in the stadium.”

Asked about the repaying his hefty transfer fee, he added: “To be honest, I don’t give a f*** about that.

Man City 0 Chelsea 1: Havertz earns Tuchel stunning Champions League crown as tinkering Guardiola gets it wrong again

SOMETIMES there is a lot to be said for conventional wisdom – sometimes there is glory to be found in the bleeding obvious.Thomas Tuchel sent out a well-balanced, well-drilled, football team and saw Chelsea deservedly crowned champions of Europe.

Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, crossed that precarious line between genius and insanity and decided that a Champions League Final was the right time to conduct one of his mad-professor experiments.
Manchester City’s great alchemist ended up concocting only a stink-bomb as a City team without a defensive midfielder or a striker was thoroughly out-played.
Tuchel has now defeated City three times in six weeks, in three different competitions.
And this victory – secured by a Kai Havertz strike after a masterful Mason Mount through-ball had exploited the glaring weakness in Guardiola’s – was the most significant of the German’s career.
What an impact Tuchel has had since replacing Frank Lampard in January.
And what a performance this was from Chelsea – there were heroic displays from Havertz, Mount, the hyperactive N’Golo Kante, the granite Toni Rudiger and two outstanding English full-backs, Reece James and Ben Chilwell.
James will have to empty out Raheem Sterling from his pocket before the pair meet up for England duty next week.
But Chelsea’s second European Cup came courtesy of a serious assist from Guardiola.

The Catalan has been accused of over-thinking his line-ups so often in Champions League knock-out matches that there was an element of sheer bloodymindedness in his refusal to start with either Fernandinho or Rodri in midfield.
His ‘false nine’ ploy has often been successful for Guardiola but not here – Kevin De Bruyne looking lost before he was forced off through injury early in the second half.
Guardiola was brought to the Etihad to conquer Europe and despite all his outstanding achievements in other competitions, he has fallen short again.
City failed to ask a serious save of keeper Edouard Mendy.

Perhaps Harry Kane will arrive and prove to be the missing link – but this defeat is going to sting like hell because Guardiola will know how culpable he was.
This was a Champions League Final which seemed inevitable since the Abu Dhabi takeover of 2008, which blew Roman Abramovich out of the water financially – the Chelsea owner having overpowered the rest of English football five years earlier.
Uefa did not want City to be here – they were banned from this year’s competition, and next, for financial chicanery but their punishment was overturned on appeal.
Then came the saga of the breakaway European Super League which threatened to wipe out this grand old competition – Chelsea and City both joining up, attempting to shut out the non-elite clubs just as the old elite once wished to keep them out.
Yet for all the billions and all the politics, this promised to be a football match to savour.
Guardiola had sprung one of his customary big-match surprises – not only was there no specialist centre forward but no genuine holding midfielder either.
The City boss loves little creative players – and so he picked five of them to start here, with his leading scorer, Ilkay Gundogan, employed as anchorman.

The German skipped over Ederson to slot Chelsea aheadCredit: The Sun
Porto’s Estadio do Dragao was a late stand-in for Istanbul, allowing 14,100 to attend – including 6,000 fans of each club who had been taking full advantage of the chance to drink in the sunshine.
City’s supporters booed the Champions League anthem – a welcome return to normality.
And before the smog from the pre-match fireworks had fully cleared, Ederson was pinging a 70-yard pass on to the toes of Sterling, who was eventually robbed by James – a theme for the evening.
But City were soon back-pedalling wildly as Chelsea attacked with speed and conviction – there were slips from John Stones and misses from Timo Werner – who then shot straight at Ederson when he might have scored.
Manchester City ace Kevin De Bruyne was in tears after coming off with a head injury
De Bruyne was inconsolable as he made his way down the tunnelCredit: Getty
It felt as if Tuchel’s men had been heartened by Guardiola’s left-field selection and were intent on punishing it.
There was a saving tackle from Rudiger to deny Phil Foden and Thiago Silva limped off before half-time, replaced by Andreas Christensen.
But when Chelsea took the lead two minutes before the break, it was fully merited.
Chilwell fed Mount and his diagonal pass embarrassed City, locating the gap between Ruben Dias and Oleksandr Zinchenko, and sending Havetrtz clean through.
Ederson rushed out of his goal like a man fleeing a chip-pan fire but Havertz rolled it around him, steadied himself and tucked into an empty net.
It has taken time for Havertz to settle but this is a footballer to cherish and that was likely to be the first of many telling contributions to A-list occasions.
De Bruyne limped early in the second half after a heavy challenge from Rudiger – Gabriel Jesus on in his place.
Immediately, City were appealing for a penalty, believing Sterling’s shot had struck James on the arm – but ref Antonio Mateu Lahoz, and his VAR, were having none of it.
Fernandinho then replaced Bernardo Silva as Guardiola reverted to convention – and Jesus was soon causing problems which Chelsea’s three-man central defence had not experienced in the opening hour.
But Havertz soon sprinted clear and fed sub Christian Pulisic, who rolled his effort agonisingly wide, Tuchel performing histrionics on the touchline.
But after Riyad Mahrez went close deep in injury-time, the German was dancing with delight – and Guardiola was left scratching that overactive head of his.

Timo Werner completely misses his kick and wastes golden chance to hand Chelsea the lead as poor form continues

CHELSEA striker Timo Werner’s struggles in front of goal continued when he spurned a glorious chance to put his side into an early lead against Manchester City.Just nine minutes into the Champions League final the German was set up by Kai Havertz just eight yards out.
Timo Werner spurned a glorious early opportunity against Manchester City
The ball ran under the German’s foot and away
But Werner completely missed the ball as he swung a leg forward.
Then just six minutes later the 25-year-old German was teed up by Mason Mount around the same distance out.
But he tamely fired the ball straight at City keeper Ederson.
The forward was also lambasted for blazing an effort over the bar in a warm-up on the pitch on Friday night.
He played a one-two with a member of the Chelsea coaching staff before thumping his wild effort miles over the crossbar.
The footage sparked worry among Chelsea supporters, but they were also able to see the funny side.
One fan said: “We get high bp once a week watching this guy misfiring, What about his fellow teammates they watch him almost every day.”
Another added: “Premier League offside player of de year dat.”

And a third said: “My pain is that he continued looking at the misfired ball like ‘hey!, you are actually going to the right destination, RIDE ON’.”
Big things were expected of Werner when he joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig for £53m in the summer.
But his return of 12 goals in 51 games in all competitions, six in 35 in the Premier League, has failed to justify the price tag.

But it his spate of flops in front of goal that have stuck with those watching his performances.
But Werner is in double figures this season on goals AND assists.
He has contributed to 15 goals for the Londoners during an up-and-down campaign.

Tammy Abraham left out of squad for Chelsea’s Champions League final clash with Man City as Tuchel includes TWO keepers

The German boss has named two GOALKEEPERS on the bench for the game against Manchester City in Porto ahead of Abraham.
The 23-year-old Londoner was pictured walking around on the pitch ahead of the huge game in Porto.
But that’s as much action as the forward will be getting tonight.
Abraham started the season brilliantly for previous boss Frank Lampard and was first-choice striker.
But injury disrupted his momentum, and after Lampard was sacked and replaced by Tuchel, he has barely had a look in.
Abraham was also left out of Chelsea’s FA Cup final squad – with the Blues going on to lose to Leicester.
This prompted the player’s girlfriend Leah Monroe taking to Instagram to complain about Tuchel’s decision.

Abraham is Chelsea’s joint-leading scorer in all competitions this season with 12, despite his lack of game time under Tuchel.
