Chelsea and France talisman N’Golo Kante deserves Ballon d’Or, claims ex-Man Utd star Louis Saha

N’GOLO KANTE deserves to win the Ballon d’Or, according to former France star Louis Saha. The Chelsea superstar, 30, has been in dominant form all year for club and country.

Ex-Man Utd striker Saha believes Kante deserves to win the Ballon d’Or over the likes of Cristiano RonaldoCredit: Getty – Contributor
Kante was the Blues’ most-important player as they went on to win the Champions League.
The Frenchman put in Man of the Match displays in both legs of the semi-final and the final itself.
And Kante’s red-hot form continued into Euro 2020 as the tireless midfielder put in a dominant display as France beat Germany 1-0.
Paul Pogba had already called for his international team-mate to win the Ballon d’Or – which famously favours forwards, such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
When asked if Kante deserved to win the Ballon d’Or, Saha told GamblingDeals: “If he did, I believe he would deserve it.
“There is no player, not even Ronaldo or Messi, that has been Man of the Match in both legs of the Champions League semi-final and final.
“Dominating the midfield alone whilst at the same time helping players moving forward. Going forward he was just a force.
“I haven’t seen anyone do anything like that.”

EURO 2020 FREE BETS: GET OVER £2,000 IN NEW CUSTOMER DEALS

Saha continued: “I do remember some other winners of the Ballon d’Or, no disrespect to them, earning this amazing prize without those types of performances.
“So it would not be a scandal at all if Kante gets his hands on the trophy, he’s been unreal.
“He plays as two players, playing outside of his role, moving forward and doing things that he’s not supposed to do.
“Those aren’t the characteristics of Messi or Ronaldo, where they stick to their job, scoring goals and amazing individual things…
“But it’s also about being able to do both. He’s unbelievable.”

Ten players who returned to former clubs and how it worked out with Chelsea to miss second transfer for Romelu Lukaku

CHELSEA are desperate to sign a new striker this summer – and are now looking to the past to solve their problems.Timo Werner has failed to find his top form at the Blues following his big-money move from RB Leipzig last summer.
Chelsea are set to offer Inter Milan £90million to re-sign Romelu Lukaku this summerCredit: Reuters

Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud could well be sold this summer too.
And Thomas Tuchel is desperate to add a star name to lead his front-line, with Erling Haaland everyone’s No1 choice.
However, such is the demand for the Borussia Dortmund wonderkid, the German manager is preparing alternative targets.
And he was looking to a former Chelsea man to take on the role: Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian striker, 27, has been sensational in Italy for Inter Milan since joining in a £73million move from Manchester United in 2019.
Chelsea were believed to be lining up a £90m swoop to bring Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge.
But he has since ruled out a return by committing his future to Inter – despite the dream homecoming proposal.
With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at TEN players who’ve quit clubs with legendary status, only to return later in their careers.
But how did they all get on in their second stints?
    DIDIER DROGBA – Chelsea
Didier Drogba only furthered his incredible reputation at Chelsea with his 2014-15 returnCredit: AP:Associated Press
    First spell: 2004-2012
    Second spell: 2014-2015
QUITE possibly Chelsea best striker in the Premier League era, Drogba won TEN trophies during his first spell at Stamford Bridge.
The Ivorian won three Premier League crowns and the Champions League in those eight years – winning the European Cup with his last kick for the club.
After two years away – at Shanghai Shenhua and Galatasaray – Drogba returned under Jose Mourinho in 2014 and helped the club win yet another league title to further cement his status as a Chelsea legend.

    THIERRY HENRY – Arsenal

    First spell: 1999-2007
    Second spell: 2012 (loan)
ANOTHER star who is quite possibly his old club’s greatest ever striker, Henry left Arsenal after eight years and two Premier League titles, including the 2003-04 ‘Invincibles’ campaign.
Henry had his head turned by Barcelona in 2007 and would later move to New York Red Bulls, seemingly to wind down his career, in 2010.
In 2012, he stunned Gooners by returning to the Emirates on a two-month loan deal as cover for Marouane Chamackh and Gervinho – who were both injured.
Henry scored the winner against Leeds in his second debut in the FA Cup, before also scoring the winning goal in the dying moments of a 2-1 league victory over Sunderland.
    ROBBIE FOWLER – Liverpool
Robbie Fowler scored 12 goals after re-signing for Liverpool five years after initially leavingCredit: PA:Press Association
    First spell: 1993-2001
    Second spell: 2006-2007
KNOWN as ‘God’ by Liverpool fans, it’s fair to say Fowler was adored by the red half of Merseyside.
He broke fans’ hearts by leaving for Leeds in 2001, where he would spend two years before joining Manchester City.
After being released by City in 2006 following a spate of injuries and a worrying lack of form, Fowler would go on to score another 12 goals for the Reds, including eight in the Premier League.
    GARETH BALE – Tottenham
Gareth Bale is currently back at Tottenham on a season-long loan from Real MadridCredit: AFP
    First spell: 2007-2013
    Second spell: 2020-2021
BALE lit up the footballing world at White Hart Lane before becoming the most-expensive player in the world at the time of signing for Real Madrid.
After huge success early in his Los Blancos career, the Welshman was frozen out under Zinedine Zidane.
Spurs brought Bale back on loan for the current campaign, but his future in England and Spain remains undetermined with him no focussing on the Euros.
    WAYNE ROONEY – Everton
Wayne Rooney was Everton’s top scorer during his one season back at the club in 2017-18Credit: Getty
    First spell: 2002-2004
    Second spell: 2017-18
ROONEY burst onto the scene with a screamer of a goal against Arsenal in 2002 before being snapped up by Man Utd.
England’s all-time leading scorer enjoyed a glittering 13 years at Old Trafford – including five Premier League titles and one Champions League – before rejoining his boyhood club.
Rooney was Everton’s top scorer in his sole season back at Goodison Park, but opted to quit to crack America with MLS side DC United in 2018.
    SOL CAMPBELL – Arsenal
Sol Campbell stunned Arsenal fans by returning to the club following a failed stint at Notts County in 2010Credit: AP:Associated Press
    First spell: 2001-2006
    Second spell: 2010
CAMPBELL sent shockwaves through North London in 2001 by signing for Arsenal on a free transfer from bitter rivals Tottenham.
After five years at the club, the ex-England defender spent three years at Portsmouth before moving to Notts County – seemingly in the twilight of his career.
But Campbell bizarrely quit the Midlands side days after his debut and decided to keep his fitness levels up as he hunted for a new club by training with Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger saw enough to sign him up, with Campbell playing 14 times during the remainder of the 2009-10 season, before joining Newcastle – where he later retired.
    PAUL POGBA – Man Utd
Paul Pogba has endured an up and down spell back at Old Trafford since returning from JuventusCredit: AP
    First spell: 2009-2012
    Second spell: 2016-present
POGBA made just seven first-team appearances for Man Utd having worked his way through the youth ranks.
Then aged 19, the French ace joined Juventus where he would forge a reputation for being one of the best midfielders on the planet.
In 2016, United splashed a then-world-record £89m to bring him back to Old Trafford.
And while his form has been up-and-down ever since, with his stint littered with speculation of a move elsewhere, Pogba has proven that on his day he is unstoppable.

    JERMAIN DEFOE – Tottenham
Jermain Defoe spent a decade at Tottenham save for one season at Portsmouth in the middleCredit: AP:Associated Press
    First spell: 2004-2008
    Second spell: 2009-2014
DURING his first spell at Spurs – having signed from West Ham – Defoe became an England regular as he blossomed into a star striker.
But in 2008, Tottenham sold him to Harry Redknapp’s Portsmouth.
After just one season, Redknapp was now in charge of Spurs – and he paid double what Pompey had done just 12 months earlier to bring him back to North London in a bizarre transfer swoop.
Defoe would go on to spend another five years at White Hart Lane, scoring a further 79 goals to end his Spurs career as the club’s sixth-top-scorer ever.
    JUNINHO – Middlesbrough
Juninho played for Middlesbrough three times, ultimately helping them win the League Cup in 2004Credit: Getty
    First spell: 1995-1997
    Second spell: 1999-2000 (loan)
    Third spell: 2002-2004
THE Brazilian magician loved Boro so much he played for them across THREE separate stints in his incredible career.
Juninho helped Middlesbrough reach the FA Cup AND League Cup final in 1997, but would leave to join Atletico Madrid after they were relegated that same season.
He briefly rejoined on loan in 1999-2000, but was hit by a frustrating injury.
But Juninho came back fighting fit in 2002, helping the Riverside club win the League Cup in 2004, while also leading them to European football.
    NEMANJA MATIC – Chelsea
Nemanja Matic returned to Chelsea in 2014 and helped them win two league titles in three seasonsCredit: PA:Press Association
    First spell: 2009-2011
    Second spell: 2014-2017
CHELSEA signed the Serbian Premier League icon for just £1.5m in 2009.
But Matic played just three times for the first-team before being loaned to Vitesse Arnhem and then sold to Benfica.
After three incredible years in Portugal, Chelsea swallowed their pride and splashed out to the tune of £21m to bring him back to West London.
Matic would go on to help the Blues win two Premier League titles, before the club made a near-£20m profit in selling him to Man Utd in 2017, where he remains to this day.

Abramovich hasn’t watched his side live in the UK since 2018 due to visa issues, but was caught on cameras revelling in the celebrations from the Blues’ second European Cup.
The Russian billionaire also gave club captain Cesar Azpilicueta a big hug, with the Spaniard telling him: “I don’t know where the trophy is.
“But we’re giving it to you because it yours.”
To which a gleeful Abramovich simply said: “Thank you.”
The 54-year-old is then seen shaking hands with German gaffer Tuchel in what was the their first meeting since his appointment in January.
Commenting after the victory over the Citizens, Tuchel remarked: “I think I have a new contract already.
“My manager said something to me about it – but I don’t know for sure. It was a special moment to meet the owner for the first time on the pitch.
“It was the best time for that – or maybe the worst because it can only get worse after this.”

But Real Madrid have confirmed the Spanish forward has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at the Bernabeu.
A club statement read: “Real Madrid CF and Lucas Vázquez have agreed to extend the player’s contract.
“He will remain linked to the club for the next three seasons, until June 30, 2024.”
Real Madrid were determined not to lose Vazquez and offered him improved terms following his recent injury – with Leeds, Tottenham and AC Milan also prowling.
Vazquez impressed this season, mainly featuring at right-back before rupturing his cruciate ligament against Barcelona in April.
He will become the second Los Blancos player to sign on the dotted line in recent days after Luka Modric agreed to a one-year extension.
Real Madrid players have all been asked to take pay-cuts on signing new deals to help them amid the financial crisis sparked by the coronavirus lockdown.
Vazquez will now look forward to a fresh start at the Bernabeu with Carlo Ancelotti confirmed as the club’s new boss earlier this week, replacing Zinedine Zidane.

The Italian – who took charge of the club between 2013 and 2015 – said: “I have a lot of love still for Gareth Bale, Isco, Marcelo…
“They will have motivation to show they can still play for Real Madrid.

Chelsea ‘could enter Achraf Hakimi bidding war’ as they join Arsenal and PSG in transfer for £70m Inter star

CHELSEA have entered the race to sign £70million-rated Inter Milan star Achraf Hakimi, according to reports. The Serie A champions are actively looking to sell one of their big-name stars this summer to raise some much-needed money.

The decision played a pivotal role in Antonio Conte quitting the San Siro – with the Italian now linked with the top job at Tottenham.
Hakimi, 22, appears to be the man on the way out, with Paris Saint-Germain having already launched a £52m bid.
The Ligue 1 giants’ first attempt was swiftly knocked back by Inter, with the Italian champions holding out for bids of around £70m.
Arsenal have already expressed an interest as they hunt for a new right-back, with Hector Bellerin – the club’s longest-serving player – expected to leave this summer.
And now Chelsea have joined the hunt for Hakimi, according to Sky Italia.
The 34-cap Morocco international only joined Inter Milan from Real Madrid last summer in a deal worth up to £40.5m having spent the two previous seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
But the Blues are impressed with Hakimi’s versatility, able to play at right-back, right-wing-back and a more attacking role.
The ex-Los Blancos ace scored seven times and added a further ten assists in 37 Serie A games as Inter stormed to the title.

However, Inter’s desire to sell Hakimi is bad news for Chelsea, with Romelu Lukaku now likely to stay.
The Belgian, 28, spearheaded Conte’s attack in their title-winning 2020-21, but the financial concerns surrounding the club led to rumours of a return to Stamford Bridge for the striker.
With the Milan giants now seemingly looking to sell Hakimi in order to keep Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez together, Chelsea could be forced to look elsewhere for a new centre-forward.
The Blues are in the running to sign Harry Kane, but face competition from Manchester City and United.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan are set to appoint ex-Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi as their new manager to replace Conte.

It had been claimed that the Champions League winners were even prepared to sell six players in order to fund a move for the Belgium international.
There were fears that he could follow Antonio Conte out the door at the San Siro with Inter in serious financial trouble.
But Lukaku has insisted that his future lies in Italy as he vowed to help the Nerazzurri win another Serie A title.
The former Everton ace spearheaded Inter to their first Scudetto since 2010 after chipping in with 24 goals and ten assists in 36 games.
Speaking on VTM’s ‘Devil Time’ show, he said: “I am staying at Inter.
“I’ve already had contact with new manager [Simone] Inzaghi.
“Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet… but it was a very positive conversation.”
Before adding: “There’s also the challenge of doing it again (winning the league with Inter). I feel good at Inter.”
