Chelsea flop Timo Werner ’70 per cent likely’ to complete Bayern Munich transfer next summer amid links with Nagelsmann

TIMO WERNER is reportedly ’70 per cent likely’ to swap Chelsea for Bayern Munich next summer to reunite with Julian Nagelsmann. The 25-year-old only departed the Bundesliga last year to link up with the Blues from RB Leipzig, but he could be set to return to his native Germany.

Werner – without a goal from his three Blues outings this term – mustered just six Premier League strikes from 35 games last campaign.
And with the West Londoners bringing in Romelu Lukaku for £97.5million, Werner’s chances in the first-team could be limited.
According to German news outlet Sport1, all signs point towards a move to Bavaria where he could potentially replace Robert Lewandowski.
The Poland international, 33, is understood to be keen for a fresh challenge away from Bayern after seven trophy-laden years with the Munich outfit.
It has been said that former RB Leipzig boss Nagelsmann, now manager at Bayern, is in regular contact with Werner.
He is claimed to be Bayern’s alternative to Erling Haaland should they fail to prise the £64m striker away from Borussia Dortmund.

Werner’s name has been discussed among the Allianz Arena hierarchy who would welcome him at the club.
Should he join Bayern, Werner would not only be reunited with Nagelsmann, but also former Leipzig team-mates Dayot Upamencano and Marcel Sabitzer.
Despite Werner’s struggles in front of goal for Chelsea, the 2021 Champions League winner has been in inspired form for Germany.
The centre-forward scored in all three of Germany’s World Cup qualifiers during the international break.
Though he was guilty of another horrendous miss from close range in Wednesday’s 4-0 win against Iceland.
Prior to bagging his 19th goal for Germany, the ex-Stuttgart ace failed to tuck away a chance from around seven yards out.

And fans were quick to have their say on social media.
One quipped: “Keeper wasn’t even troubled enough to take a look.”
Another remarked: “Three guarantees in life: Death, taxes and Werner missing open goals.”

Chelsea face fixture congestion as Japan ‘will NOT host Fifa Club World Cup in December but could stage it next year’

CHELSEA could be facing a fixture pile-up after reports claimed the Club World Cup was set to be postponed. The Blues are one of the sides taking part in the competition after their Champions League success over Manchester City in May.

Japan was due to host the tournament but because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, they are set to relinquish the right to host it.
Kyodo News Agency states: “The Japan Football Association has decided to relinquish its right to host this year’s Club World Cup due to the Covid-19 restrictions and is in discussion with Fifa.”
The decision has allegedly been made not to play it out in Japan due to the risk of increasing infections.
And the difficulty of delivering a profit because crowds are expected to be capped is also a major reason behind the nation’s expected official pull-out from hosting duties.
However, no official announcement has yet been made.
The JFA’s talks with Fifa may also see the competition pushed back to early next year.

A Fifa spokesperson told AFP: “Details of the next Fifa Club World Cup will be confirmed in due course.”
But the Mail states Qatar is the ‘obvious alternative venue’ for Fifa.
World football’s governing body wants fans to be able to attend their ‘flagship club competition’.
And after the controversial decision to proceed with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics – and the recent resignation of the nation’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga – his successor is unlikely to give the green light for football supporters to travel to Japan for the showpiece.
The Club World Cup was last held in Japan in 2016.

And the JFA had planned to host the 2021 edition as part of its centenary anniversary celebrations.
It usually takes place in December but last year’s edition was postponed until February due to the pandemic and was held in Qatar and won by Bayern Munich.
But a similar decision could leave Chelsea struggling with a potential congested fixture problem should they still remain in all competitions.
The EFL Cup will be in its final stages by then while the FA Cup will also be underway.
And with the Premier League in full-swing, the Champions League knock-out stages will also be about to begin.

Chelsea duo Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner both score as Thomas Tuchel’s strikers find lethal touch in front of goal

CHELSEA fans will have been buoyed on Thursday to see both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner hit the target for their respective nations. The Blues are currently riding high after an unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign following last season’s Champions League glory.

Boss Thomas Tuchel is hoping to build on that success after the addition of Belgian hitman Lukaku to his frontline.
The £97.5million striker hit the ground running back at Stamford Bridge with a debut goal against Arsenal.
Lukaku, 28, followed that up with an impressive display to help his side grind out a draw at Liverpool last weekend after Reece James’ sending-off.
And now his fine form has continued on the international stage as he got himself on the scoresheet not once but twice for his nation in their World Cup qualifier away to Estonia.
The former Manchester United and Inter Milan man and his team-mates found themselves behind after just two minutes in Tallinn before Hans Vanaken drew them level.
Then order was restored thanks to Lukaku’s brace either side of the half time interval before the Belgians went on to win 5-2.

And there was even more good news for the Chelsea faithful as news filtered through to West London and their fans around the world that much-maligned hitman Werner had also found the target.
The forward only got 12 for the Blues last term and he has been restricted to just one substitute appearance since Lukaku arrived.
But he shrugged off that to break the deadlock for Germany in their qualifier away to Liechtenstein just four minutes before the break.
His team then went on to add a second through Leroy Sane to record a 2-0 victory.

Jules Kounde ‘fuming with Sevilla’ after club rejected transfer offer from Chelsea and summer move collapsed

JULES KOUNDE is allegedly fuming Sevilla blocked his transfer move to Chelsea. The 22-year-old emerged as the No1 defensive target for Thomas Tuchel as the Champions League holders lodged an offer for the French international.

The star made it clear that he wanted to leave Sevilla but the LaLiga side refused to let him go on the cheap.
The Blues had an offer of £42.8m rejected as the Spanish club slapped an £68.5m asking price on his head.
Chelsea were expected to make another move for him on deadline day but that failed to materialise on Tuesday.
Kounde has reportedly not taken Sevilla’s reluctance to let him go well, with the Spanish Football Podcast reporting that he is ‘furious’ over the situation.
And he is believed to be that angry that he is even ignoring calls from Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui and director of football Monchi while on international duty this week with Les Bleus.
Monchi has spoken openly about the speculation, claiming earlier this week: “Most of [the approaches were] rejected by the player himself but there was a club that he liked, which was Chelsea.

“The first and only formal offer was last Wednesday, around five in the afternoon, with an amount that did not satisfy our desires and conditional on Chelsea selling a player.
“It was an important offer, considering the current world where there are so many hardships, but it did not meet our demands, conditions, or quantities.
“I spoke to the player’s agent some time ago because the more time that passed, the more difficult it would be for him to leave. We put as a deadline the 20th, and we extended that to the 25th.
“We responded with a counter-offer with a deadline of last Friday night and they have not responded.
“Since then there has been no contact. Chelsea’s formal offer, Sevilla’s formal response, but nothing else.”
Perhaps it was Kounde’s frustration over the failed Chelsea move that led to him being sent-off for his country last night.
The centre-half was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Sead Kolasinac in the World Cup qualification clash with Bosnia-Herzegovina that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Drinkwater, 31, joined Chelsea a year after helping Leicester to win the Premier League title in 2016 but the £35million switch has not gone to plan.
He last played competitively for the Blues in the 2018 Community Shield and spent last term in Turkey with Kasimpasa.
That came after previous loan spells at Burnley and Aston Villa.
Now he is heading out again after agreeing to spend the campaign in the Championship with Reading.
Drinkwater becomes the second Chelsea player to move to the Royals after left-back Baba Rahman also joined them on loan.
Meanwhile Bakayoko is also heading back to Italy and AC Milan, where he will be a team-mate of former Blues Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud.

The 27-year-old Frenchman was a regular in his last loan stint at the San Siro and helped them reach the Coppa Italia semi-finals in 2019.
He then re-joined former club Monaco for a year before he spent last term in Serie A with Napoli.
Bakayoko, who joined Chelsea in 2017 for £40million, has made 43 appearances for the Blues in total.

Callum Hudson-Odoi told by Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to seize opportunity after rejecting England U21 call-up

Hudson-Odoi, 20, is battling to get into the Chelsea first team but with three full caps he sees the England senior team as his rightful place.
Tuchel said: “It’s his personal decision and nothing to do with my opinion or the club’s.
“It’s about disappointment he is not nominated for the first team, but at the same time maybe did not have enough minutes to be nominated for it.
“He waits for a regular chance but he fights against Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic.
“We don’t have to feel sorry for him. Once the door is a little bit open we demand he puts his feet in between it and he makes his mark.”
Lee Carsley’s England Under-21s play Romania in a friendly in Bucharest on Friday before a Euro qualifier against Kosovo.

Carsley said: “He’s stayed at Chelsea to work on his development there. I respected that decision.”
Hudson-Odoi put his problems to one side and rented Thorpe Park in the summer as a thank you for NHS and key workers.
Tuchel said: “I am not surprised he does things like this.
“He is not happy with his situation but he never ever brings his frustration to work.”

Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi rejected England U21 call-up to stay training with Thomas Tuchel, reveals Lee Carsley

LEE CARSLEY revealed Callum Hudson-Odoi turned down the chance of a call-up to his maiden England Under-21s squad. While Mason Greenwood is deemed a senior player – despite not being in Gareth Southgate’s latest camp – and so not considered for Under-21 selection.

Carsley, who succeeded Aidy Boothroyd earlier this summer, named a number of teenagers in his first squad who will play Romania in a friendly in Bucharest on Friday before a Euro qualifier against Kosovo at MK Dons a week on Tuesday.
They included Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, 18, Manchester City midfielder Cole Palmer, 19, and Southampton full-back Tino Livramento, 18.
But there was no inclusion of Chelsea ace Hudson-Odoi, who opted to stay with his club during the upcoming international window as he bids to impress Thomas Tuchel.
Carsley, 47, said: “Callum is a player we really like. I’ve had some really good conversations with him and his advisor and Callum felt that it wasn’t the right time for him at the minute to come with England.
“He’s stayed back at Chelsea to work on his development there. I respected that decision.”
Manchester United flyer Mason Greenwood, 19, was eligible for the Under-21s after his surprise omission from Southgate’s latest squad.

But Carsley explained: “I’ve got brilliant communication with Gareth and he made it clear in the press conference Mason is probably on a different journey to the one the Under-21s are on so he is seen now as a senior player and he is doing really well.”
Saint Etienne goalkeeper Etienne Green was also handed his first call-up after it was discovered he was eligible for England, having been born here before moving to France aged four.
Boothroyd labelled the England Under-21s manager role as “the utterly impossible job” for how hard it is to square being successful at major tournaments with producing players for the senior team.
The ex-Watford chief brought through plenty of starlets like Phil Foden and Jack Grealish but exited two consecutive Under-21s Euros at the group stage.
Carsley said the priority remains developing talent for Southgate’s side but is eyeing tournament glory at the same time.
The ex-Republic of Ireland international added: “Our main target will always be to support the seniors but if you’re asking… ultimately I want the players to win something with the 21s.”

Mount insists Chelsea’s record transfer buy Lukaku is already part of the family & shares insatiable hunger for success

ROMELU LUKAKU has slotted in quickly at Chelsea because he shares his new team-mates’ insatiable hunger for success.Mason Mount is already forging an understanding with the £97.5million Belgian centre-forward.

Chelsea head up to Liverpool for a pop at one of their main Premier League title rivals this evening.
And midfielder Mount says the club’s record buy is like one of the family after just two league games — both victories.
Mount said: “We are all on the same path. He never stops working hard in  training, or in the gym.
“With his vision, his goals, it doesn’t take long to understand each other’s game. It doesn’t feel like a new guy’s come in.
“We know he has been here before but that was a long time ago. Even so, like us, he wants to win big things with Chelsea.
“It doesn’t just happen. We have been working on drills around the box, trying to understand each other’s movement. It hasn’t taken long.

“When you have a top player like that and understand each other, we have that link straightaway.”
Lukaku, 28, first joined the Blues from Anderlecht back in 2011 and returns after stops at Everton, Manchester United and Inter Milan.
And he described one cross from Mount in the 2-0 victory at Arsenal last week as ‘brilliant’.
There is hope that the pair can forge a similar relationship on the pitch to that of their respective heroes Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba during a period of domination for Chelsea in the noughties.
Mount said: “We want to create our own history at the club.
“With Rom, we know how much he idolises Didier and that is special. The same with me and Frank.
“They’re massive idols at the club and we want to walk in their footsteps and achieve massive things.”

The next step is at Anfield today, when Mount will break new ground in his blossoming career.
Last season, he scored the winner in a 1-0 Chelsea victory.
The year before, his team went down 5-3 at the height of the raging Covid-19 pandemic.
Mount said: “We won — but at an empty Anfield. I’ve never played there when it has been full.
“When the game kicks off and you can’t hear a thing for the first five minutes it might be  different.
“I spoke to a couple of the boys about  playing there and they say it is unbelievable.”
