Chelsea icon Eidur Gudjohnsen’s two sons combine for Iceland goal as Andri, 19, finishes from pass by brother Sveinn, 23

EIDUR GUDJOHNSEN’S sons are keeping the family tradition alive after Andri and Sveinn combined for a late Iceland goal in their win over Liechtenstein.Andri and Sveinn are the third generation of Gudjohnsen’s to feature in the national team as they follow in the footsteps of dad Eidur and grandfather Arnor.

Chelsea icon Eidur, who is Iceland’s top scorer and current assistant manager, even replaced his dad for his international debut in 1996, but the two never played together.
However his boys Andri, 19, and Sveinn, 23, are making their mark playing alongside each other as shown in Monday’s 4-0 World Cup qualifying win.
The pair came off the bench to combine for the 89th minute goal as Elfsborg forward Sveinn found the Real Madrid youngster with a neat header across the box.
And Andri snapped up the chance as his half volley bounced into the bottom left corner to bring up his second goal in his fourth Iceland appearance.
His strike has helped keep Iceland’s faint hopes of World Cup qualification alive.
The Nordic country sit second bottom in Group J, though they could still finish second should they beat North Macedonia and Romania in their final fixtures.

Despite Iceland’s uncertain future, fans were loving their fourth goal at Laugardalsvollur.
Commenting on the strike, one user tweeted: “Eidur’s legacy lives on.”
Another quipped: “Welcome to Chelsea 2028.”

A third added: “Hello world. Do you remember when Iceland had just one Gudjohnsen? Well now we have two. Good luck with that.”
One then remarked: “Sveinn assisting his little brother Andri. I imagine the Gudjohnsen household is very proud right now.”
Meanwhile one simply stated: “Eidur’s boys keeping up the family name!”

Chelsea ace Billy Gilmour reveals he wears a Liverpool shirt when he plays football at home

CHELSEA and Scotland wonderkid Billy Gilmour once revealed he wears a LIVERPOOL shirt at home. The 20-year-old burst on to the Stamford Bridge scene and his form earned him a call-up for his country at Euro 2020.

He was the star man as Scotland held England to a goalless draw at Wembley at the Euros, but was ruled out of the rest of tournament after testing positive for Covid-19.
This season, he is enjoying a loan at Norwich City, where he has already featured six times.
But, during lockdown last year, Chelsea fans were shocked to learn he wore a Reds shirt.
When asked if he wears a jersey of another team, the teenager told the Chelsea website in 2020: “It was probably Andy Robertson’s Liverpool shirt when I swapped with him after the recent FA Cup game.
“I wear that sometimes at the moment, just out in the garden playing football.”
It won’t be the first time the footballer has got stick for his clothing of choice.
SunSport reported how Gilmour revealed he was the butt of jokes after he modelled for Burberry – but he has insisted he saw the funny side after seeing his face on billboards.
Speaking to Jamie Redknapp on the Sky Football Show about how it came about, he said: “My agent phoned and he was just saying, ‘I got a phone call from Burberry and they were asking if you’d like to do modelling?’ So my dad phoned me and asked what I’d think doing modelling. I’m giving it a bit saying ‘of course’ and bantering with him.
“I then got a phone call from my agent saying, ‘we’re meeting up tomorrow with Burberry’. I said, ‘Why’s that?’ and he said ‘You’re modelling for them, did your dad not say?’

“I said, ‘I thought he was kidding on! I ended up doing a couple of modelling shoots for Burberry! It was good, something different, but I got a bit of stick.
“It’s funny, I was going home one of the times in Heathrow or Gatwick airport and the Burberry shop is there. I was walking to my flight and I come up on the billboard!
“I just took a picture of it and sent it to my dad and started laughing. It was brilliant.”

Chelsea must win their own mental battle after successive losses ahead of international break, insists Loftus-Cheek

RUBEN LOFTUS-CHEEK admits Chelsea must win the battle in their heads in order to turn around a dip in form.Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat at Juventus came just four days after an identical result against Man City and normally prolific Chelsea have also hit a dry patch in front of goal.

They play winless Southampton on Saturday and need to get confidence back on a high before the squad splits up for a two-week international break.
Midfielder Loftus-Cheek said: “Now it’s about the mental game and we need to win in the Premier League on Saturday.”
“We need to reflect on this game, see where we can get better, regroup and bounce back.
“With the ball possession we had, we should be making more chances and being more dangerous.”
Chelsea have managed only one shot on target in 180 minutes of football although losing in Italy dented morale it is not a disaster for the Champions League title holders.
Loftus-Cheek remarked: “Anyone can win this competition. You want to be peaking when you get to the business end.

“Sometimes you can afford a loss in the group stage. We need to get through this, work at it.
“It will come, and hopefully we will look back and see this as a hurdle.
“The way Juventus play, and how good they are defending in that tight, compact block, if you’re not at the quality you should be it’s going to be hard to break them down.
“We’re the champions and they respect us as a team. You could see that’s why they camped behind the ball. It worked for them so well done to Juventus.

‘We had a few chances at the end, but if you’re not at your top quality in the Champions League sometimes you get a defeat.”
Boss Thomas Tuchel will be hoping to have key midfielder Mason Mount fit again after missing the last two games.
Mount was called up for the latest England squad despite his injury and joins team-mate Reece James for the games against Andorra and Hungary.

Brittle Juventus barely recognisable from Serie A kings as Chelsea head to Turin looking for more Champions League joy

JUVENTUS are a club back in crisis. The team is barely recognisable from one that dominated Serie A with NINE straight titles.

And now they find themselves under investigation again, this time over a £37million tax probe.
The Old Lady confirmed its books are being scrutinised by the Italian stock exchange in an inspection that has already lasted two months.
Juve posted an Italian record losses of £181m in their accounts for last season, published this week.
But the smallprint revealed that the club is also subject to the ongoing probe into image rights deals worth £37m.
They were forced to sell Cristiano Ronaldo at a significant loss and were hit by their key role in the failed Super League breakaway.
And that’s just off the pitch.

On it, life after Ronaldo is far from a bed of roses.
They go into Wednesday’s huge clash with Chelsea languishing ninth in Serie A.
Juve started the season with two points from four games, including the season-opening 2-2 draw at Udinese which Ronaldo played in before his shock switch to Manchester United.
They have won their last two games but now have both Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata injured leaving Moise Kean as their only recognised striker for the visit of the European champions.
Max Allegri returned to the club in the summer for £8m-a-season to take over from Andrea Pirlo but finds himself in a bit of a mess.
Allegri, 54, won five successive titles with Juventus between 2014 and 2019, following Antonio Conte’s hat-trick from 2011-14.
Conte’s wins came, of course, after the club bounced back from the match-fixing debacle which saw them relegated from Serie A in 2006.
Allegri was replaced by Maurizio Sarri, who lasted only a year despite guiding the club to a NINTH successive title.

Pirlo proved to be a massive disappointment and the club finished fourth last season, only qualifying for the Champions League thanks to a final-day implosion by Napoli.
Right now, Juve can look miles off Inter Milan and there is no way they will win the Champions League.
Before leaving, Ronaldo scored 101 goals in 134 games at Juventus. He led the way with 29 in Serie A last season.
As well as losing Ronaldo for economic reasons, Juve failed to sign goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from AC Milan due to wage demands  and instead, he moved to PSG.
Former Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny has been in terrible form and he finally paid the price ahead of Sunday’s 3-2 win over Sampdoria and was dropped for Mattia Perin.
Juve have been playing in a 4-4-2 system but the injuries to their two forwards is likely to spark a change against Chelsea.
Despite forming the bedrock of Italy’s defence at Euro 2020, 37-year-old skipper Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonnuci, 34, are coming to the end of their careers.
In the summer, Juve’s only arrival was Manuel Locatelli from Sassuolo who is an all-action midfielder.
But it is that departure of Ronaldo that has now left this team looking low-key and without an attacking A-lister.
Juventus legend Marco Tardelli, speaking to SunSport, said: “Juve need to start defending better and there is nothing wrong with winning 1-0.
“But I am not optimistic about the match against Chelsea. I like how Chelsea play overall because they can put Romelu Lukaku in the middle of their attack.”
Italian goalkeeper legend Dino Zoff, 79, played for Juve between 1972 to 1983 including 330 matches in a row. He captained Italy to the World Cup in 1982.
He said: “Juventus-Chelsea is a high level game with two very strong teams but at the moment I can’t say who will win in Turin. Without Dybala and Morata, who scores against Chelsea?”

The Blues opened talks with the Serie A club and were even prepared to make wing-back Marcos Alonso part of the package.
However, Hakimi opted for the French capital instead as he felt PSG’s project was more appealing than Thomas Tuchel’s at Stamford Bridge.
He told L’Equipe, via Football Italia: “I had two offers, one from Chelsea and one from Paris Saint-Germain.
“But I felt I had to come to Paris, that I would have been happy there.
“PSG is a great club, I really appreciate the support the fans gave me straight away.
“I was lucky because so many other champions joined me. I feel good at PSG, we have a dream team and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

The defender was the first of several high-profile arrivals at Parc des Princes during the summer window.
He was soon joined by Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma and, of course, Lionel Messi at PSG.
Hakimi also admitted that he has been surprised by how ‘simple’ and ‘quiet’ the Argentine is.
He added: “For Messi to leave Barca, like everyone else, I didn’t expect it.
“And when I heard you were coming here, what can I say? A dream for me!
“I played with many great players and the only one I missed was Messi! I am proud to evolve with such a good footballer.
“To progress, I will pay attention to how he trains, how he plays. It will grow the team and each of the players that make it up.
“We speak the same language, in addition, little by little we are getting to know each other.
“Building a technical relationship with him is easy! I give him the ball, I run and he will put it where it belongs! I was surprised by the way he behaved, he is simple, quiet.”

Chelsea targeting £103m Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt transfer after failing to land Jules Kounde in summer window

CHELSEA are reportedly plotting a £103million transfer swoop for Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt.Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is looking for defensive reinforcements despite enjoying Champions League glory in May.

His top target was Jules Kounde but Sevilla held firm and eventually priced the French international out of a move to Stamford Bridge.
That left Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger as first-choice centre-backs at Chelsea this term and all three have shone.
Tuchel’s men have conceded just once – a penalty against Liverpool – and have kept five clean sheets out of their six games.
However, the German coach still looks set to push ahead with his pursuit of a new defender with all three of the above becoming free agents in June.
According to Calciomercato, Chelsea are ‘very interested’ in former Ajax ace De Ligt as a potential replacement.
And the report states that they have put him at the top of their transfer wishlist for next season.

The Netherlands international, 22, moved to Turin in 2019 but he has a release clause of £103m included in his package.
That becomes active at the end of the current campaign and could ignite the Blues into action.

Although the Bianconeri are hoping to secure De Ligt’s long-term future by offering him a new contract to fend off interest from Chelsea.
The star does not seem to be too deterred by the speculation as he scored the crucial goal to seal a 3-2 win for Juventus at Spezia last night in Serie A.

Chelsea star Marcos Alonso will no longer take knee before matches and claims anti-racism gesture is ‘losing strength’

MARCUS ALONSO has decided he will no longer take a knee before games alongside his Chelsea team-mates. And the Blues left-back reckons the strength of the symbolic anti-racism gesture is fading.

Sky reports the Spain international, 30, whose team play Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup next, has chosen to point to the Prem’s ‘No Room for Racism’ emblem on his shirt.
Speaking after Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat of Tottenham, Alonso said: “I prefer to do it this way and, of course, to say very clearly that I am against racism and I respect everybody.
“I am fully against racism and I’m against every type of discrimination, and I just prefer to put my finger to the badge where it says no to racism as they do in some other sports and football in other countries.
When questioned as to whether his choice concerned political reasons, the Spain full-back added: “I don’t know, I just prefer to do it this way.
“It’s my way to do it, I think it’s another way.
“And maybe I think it’s losing a bit of strength the other way, so I just prefer to do it this way and to show I am fully supportive of fighting against racism.”

Earlier this year Crystal Palace striker Wilfried Zaha became the first Premier League player to stop taking the knee after stating he believed it was ‘degrading’.
And in August Brentford confirmed Ivan Toney’s decision to make his own personal gesture before games as opposed to kneeling with other Bees players
Alonso, who has made seven Chelsea appearances this term, says he has not conversed with his Blues team-mates on the issue, some of whom have been on the receiving end of racist abuse.
For now I prefer to point to the sleeve and that’s what I will doMarcus Alonso
Players include Reece James, Antonio Rudiger, N’Golo Kante and Romelu Lukaku who have all been subjected to racially derogatory abuse online.
And the bigoted online barrage led James to momentarily take down his Instagram page.
Alonso added: “We are in the changing room and we are like a family.

“I have a very good relationship with everyone, I love everyone and up to now we haven’t talked about it.
“I don’t think there is a need to, but, of course, if I have to speak to anyone, I will say the same thing I just told you and I don’t think there will be any problems.
“Yeah, for now, I prefer to point to the sleeve and that’s what I will do.”

Thomas Tuchel’s side were linked with a move for the ex-Bordeaux man in the summer, but were claimed to be reluctant to meet his £34million asking price.
It has since been stated how the Blues will press ahead with a move to sign the youngster in 2022 following the loan arrival of Saul Niguez.
And according to Tuttomercatoweb, Chelsea will offer Tchouameni an ‘attractive’ proposal in order to convince him to link up with the club.
The Italian news outlet have declared that the Champions League holders are in competition with Juventus to secure his services.
They add that the Old Lady have made prising Tchouameni away from Monaco their No1 midfield target.
Though it has been said how the Serie A giants may have to offload either Aaron Ramsey or Weston McKennie in order to land him.

Should Juve fail in their quest to sign Tchouameni, they could turn their attention to Leicester ace Youri Tielemans.
Manchester United star Paul Pogba hailed the 2021 Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year following his impressive displays during the recent international break.
Speaking of his compatriot, he told Ouest-France: “Very very good. He’s not a boy, he’s a man.
“It was a pleasure to play next to him. He brings a lot of energy.
“A lot of energy, extraordinary technical and physical quality.
“We wish him to play lots of matches. And that I am always at his side.”
