Cole, speaking on talkSPORT, said: “I almost joined Spurs. I went and did my medical and everything.
“Roman Abramovich found out and he said ‘you’ve got to come back, you’re not joining them’.
“He said ‘you can’t go to Spurs, I don’t do business with them’.”
The only Chelsea player in the Abramovich era to join Tottenham is Carlo Cudicini, with the reserve keeper allowed to leave on a free transfer in 2009.

CHELSEA will today beg the Government to ease sanctions on them amid fears the club could go bust in just SEVENTEEN DAYS.The Blues’ billionaire owner Roman Abramovich was hit with several punishing financial measures on Thursday and had all of his UK-based assets – including Chelsea – frozen due to his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Abramovich is currently barred from selling the club, although the Blues brass will reportedly ask the Government for a special licence to sell up.
That’s according to The Daily Mail, who claim the club’s current cash reserves will burn out in a mere 17 days due to the sanctions imposed on them.
March 28 is currently the date the Blues are set to run out of dosh – which has prompted Chelsea chiefs to beg the Government to allow them to sell the club in a desperate bid to avoid going out of business.
Chelsea currently pay out a whopping £28million a month on wages for their star players.

Abramovich – who looks to have made his last signing at Stamford Bridge – was never shy in splashing the cash on big-name transfers.
After all, in his first season at Stamford Bridge, he oversaw 16 new signings, from mega-bucks Hernan Crespo, Damien Duff and Claude Makelele to freebies Craig Rocastle, Neil Sullivan and Marco Ambrosio.

The Blues have been blocked from selling home and away match tickets and merchandise sales have also been halted as a result of the sanctions.
The club lost their £40million-a-year sponsorship deal with telecommunications company Three.
Official Chelsea partners Zapp are also reviewing their partnership with the club.

The club’s deal with Hyundai is worth £50m whereas the arrangement with Three comes up to £120m in total, which means the west Londoners are facing a loss worth up to £170m.
Chelsea could also face a nine-point penalty IF the club end up in administration as a result of a lack of income.

The Blues can, however, sell food and drink on matchdays.
Sponsors are also considering their commercial ties to Chelsea, which could see the club lose tens of millions in sponsorship.
And ex-Liverpool defender Carragher believes Man Utd should capitalise on Chelsea’s off-pitch issues by pinching their Champions League-winning manager, Tuchel.
The Red Devils are trailing behind Arsenal in the race for Champions League football and are yet to announce their next permanent manager.
Interim boss Ralf Rangnick has struggled to make a big impact, but is expected to take up an advisory role in the summer when a new manager is brought in.
Writing on the Telegraph, Carragher said: “United can offer him the security and backing every top coach craves.

“Every chief executive in the world looking for a new coach will be – or at least should be – monitoring Tuchel’s mood and public comments between now and the end of the season.
“Only clubs of a certain calibre could attract him. It would be negligent of United to fail to sound him out.
“As a coach, he is exactly what they need.”
Mauricio Pochettino, who could be sacked by Paris Saint-Germain after his side capitulated in their Champions League second leg against Real Madrid, is also a managerial target for the Red Devils.
But with the Argentine struggling to get the best of out some of football’s biggest stars, Carragher would back Tuchel to do a better job at United.
On Poch’s failures since taking over from Tuchel at PSG, Carragher said: “Whoever takes over at Old Trafford will have a clean slate, empowered to clear out the toxic influences at the training ground. They need a big personality to do that.
“With respect to Pochettino – who I have always rated very highly – Tuchel got more out of the PSG squad than his successor. In fairness to both, the PSG squad is unmanageable.
“Privately, I am sure both have been exhausted feeling they were managing egos more than footballers.
“That is not an excuse for the failure to lead the French side to Champions League success. It is, however, a mitigating factor as to why so many excellent coaches have fallen short in Paris.
“There will not be much sympathy for Pochettino. He should have led PSG much deeper in the competition given the talent and resources at his disposal.
“His difficulty is even the most basic tactical decisions can be like treading through a political minefield when the superstar players run the club.”
