      REAL Madrid star Antonio Rudiger named his best XI of stars he has faced during his career – reserving special praise for the ‘best ever’, Lionel Messi.The German defender, now 29, revealed all in an interview with Sky Sports in 2020.

      And he named a host of Premier League stars, including two current Liverpool players.
      But when asked who he believed to be the greatest player of all-time, Rudiger aimed to settle the debate by claiming it would be Messi for him.
      The Blues defender – who left the Blues this summer for LaLiga- said: “If I had to pick one it would be Messi.
      “Is he the best ever? I didn’t see Pele or Diego Maradona playing because that was not my time, so it’s Messi.”

      Sky Italia journalist Fabio Caressa said: “Ancelotti told me that Abramovich also texted him, always the same, especially in times when things were not going well.
      “He only sent him a question mark.
      “Instead he, the genius that is Carlo, answered him only with an exclamation mark.”

      It appears the 63-year-old was in no mood to give his former club any of his wisdom at the time of the messages.

      Perhaps the Russian sent him yet another exclamation mark on that occasion.
      Ancelotti departed Merseyside last summer, returning to another of his former clubs – Real Madrid.

      JOHN TERRY has revealed he told former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte to leave him out of the squad for the entirety of his final season – in order to give Nathan Ake a chance.JT was itching to see the Dutch youngster, 21 at the start of the 2016-17 campaign, given a chance at Stamford Bridge, even if it meant sacrificing his own minutes.

      Ake left Chelsea for Bournemouth and then secured a 2020 transfer to Man City, where he has won two Prem titles
      Speaking with snooker legend Stephen Hendry on an Instagram Live Q&A, Terry revealed he told Conte, who returned to Stamford Bridge on Sunday with Tottenham and was involved in a bust up with Thomas Tuchel, to give Ake the senior match-day experience, even if it was watching from the bench.
      But Ake only played four times all season and was sold to Bournemouth in the summer after Terry’s retirement, having spent the first half of the season on loan on the South Coast.
      Chelsea did go on to win the Premier League that season, with a back-three of Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill.
      Looking back at his final season in West London, Terry said: “I went to see [Conte] around Christmas time.
      “I was like ‘gaffer, listen you’re putting me on the bench and we’ve got Nathan Ake’, who for me was an unbelievably talented young player.
      “I said ‘put him on the bench because the chances of him coming on are really slim, it’s going to be great experience for him’.
      “‘He was on the bench for about seven, eight or ten games, and he ended up playing against Spurs in the [FA Cup] semi-final that year.
      “And it was just little stuff like that. I’m not sure players would have done what I did.”

      Ake ultimately played just four times for Chelsea in 2016-17 before he was sold to Bournemouth for £20million.
      Terry quit the club to join Aston Villa, where he was assistant manager, but recently returned to Chelsea to join their academy staff.
      Ake, now 27, has gone on to receive international recognition with Holland and signed for Manchester City in a £40m deal in 2020, winning the Premier League in his first season at the Etihad.
      He also helped the club secure back-to-back Prem titles last season and also has an EFL Cup to his name.
      The Dutchman has started both of City’s opening Prem games this term, keeping two clean sheets in the process. More

      And Chelsea have continued to have impressed ever since – now under the leadership of Thomas Tuchel – with academy graduates Mason Mount, Reece James, Andreas Christensen and Callum Hudson-Odoi, to name a few, all shining.
      But things could have turned out differently had a former boss succeeded in persuading Roman Abramovich to pull the plug on his youth funding.
      Emenalo, who served as Chelsea’s technical director between 2011 and 2017 after spending the previous four years as chief scout and assistant first team coach, worked above the likes of Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Roberto Di Matteo.
      He claims former supremo Abramovich was urged to ditch his academy and focus instead on pouring money into the first team.
      But the Russian did not listen to his manager, and Emenalo reckons the decision is proving to be one of his best ever.

      The former Monaco chief told the Telegraph: “I defended the academy when there was pressure and doubt and pessimism.
      “There was a time when there was a clamour to do more and a manager came in to make a presentation to say the academy was not necessary.
      “The argument was it takes too long, we don’t have time, we should use it to make some money here and there, and that the owner should stop pumping money into it because it seemed like a waste.
      “But that wasn’t my idea and I had to fight against it.
      “This is where I am very, very proud of the owner Roman Abramovich because of the trust he had in me and the willingness to listen to me and give the academy time.
      “He would not abandon it. He believed in it and in me, and I can’t thank him enough for that.” More

      He was the star man as Scotland held England to a goalless draw at Wembley at the Euros, but was ruled out of the rest of tournament after testing positive for Covid-19.
      Last season he was on loan at Norwich City, but was unable to help Dean Smith’s side stay in the Premier League.
      But, during lockdown, Chelsea fans were shocked to learn he wore a Reds shirt.
      When asked if he wears a jersey of another team, the teenager told the Chelsea website in 2020: “It was probably Andy Robertson’s Liverpool shirt when I swapped with him after the recent FA Cup game.
      “I wear that sometimes at the moment, just out in the garden playing football.”
      It won’t be the first time the footballer has got stick for his clothing of choice.
      SunSport reported how Gilmour revealed he was the butt of jokes after he modelled for Burberry – but he has insisted he saw the funny side after seeing his face on billboards.
      Speaking to Jamie Redknapp on the Sky Football Show about how it came about, he said: “My agent phoned and he was just saying, ‘I got a phone call from Burberry and they were asking if you’d like to do modelling?’ So my dad phoned me and asked what I’d think doing modelling. I’m giving it a bit saying ‘of course’ and bantering with him.
      “I then got a phone call from my agent saying, ‘we’re meeting up tomorrow with Burberry’. I said, ‘Why’s that?’ and he said ‘You’re modelling for them, did your dad not say?’

      THOMAS TUCHEL has taken a swipe at Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund by revealing his unique bond with Chelsea supporters.The Stamford Bridge faithful displayed their support for Tuchel this week by unveiling a banner dedicated to the Champions League winner.

      Reports claim the German faces an uncertain future with Chelsea’s takeover by Todd Boehly yet to be rubberstamped.
      But Blues fans are desperate for Tuchel to stay, with many feeling the tactician needs several transfer windows to build a squad in his own image.
      Tuchel himself is eager to remain at the London club after taking to English football like a duck to water.

      But Tuchel admits he struggled to forge a real bond with supporters at either club.
      And he is delighted to have made a real connection with Chelsea’s backers, despite their topsy-turvy season.
      Tuchel beamed: “It’s so nice to have this bond with the fans. I was not famous for that in my last clubs. I don’t know why it’s suddenly like this, but I’m very happy about it.
