Former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel set to complete transfer to Stoke with medical set for Monday

FORMER Chelsea star John Obi Mikel is reportedly set to sign for Stoke on Monday.
The Nigerian midfielder, 33, has been a free agent since leaving Turkish side Trabzonspor in March due to the threat of coronavirus.

John Obi Mikel is on the brink of completing his move to Stoke
Now Mikel is set to sign a one-year deal at Stoke – with his medical pencilled in for Monday.
The Telegraph claim Mikel held talks with boss Michael O’Neill during the week.
In their meeting, the Potters boss convinced the ex-Blues man to spend a season in the Championship as they push for Premier League promotion.
At one stage, Stoke were in a battle to avoid relegation to League One after an abysmal 2019-20 season.

They ultimately finished the season in 15th place, eight points above the drop zone.
But despite their shaky season, O’Neill is working on a monster summer overhaul of his lacklustre squad, with Mikel key to his master plan.
The Northern Irish boss has already brought in three players this summer, having signed Morgan Fox, James Chester and Steven Fletcher.
Now Stoke want Mikel, who enjoyed a trophy-laden 11 years at Stamford Bridge.

He last played in England last year, with a short stint at Middlesbrough.
Mikel played 18 times in the Championship, scoring once, in between spells at Tianjin Teda and Trabzonspor.

After leaving to join Russian joining Zenit St Petersburg in 2017, many Blues supporters thought they had seen the last of the veteran defender in England.
However, according to Serbian newspaper Novosti, Ivanovic could be back playing against Chelsea next season with the Toffees.
Ivanovic is a free agent and also has interest from Red Star Belgrade back in his native Serbian.
But the report states his negotiations with Everton are in the “final phase” as a move to Merseyside edges closer.

Ivanovic played for Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti during his time at Chelsea.
And it looks as if the opportunity of a reunion with a man he won a Prem and FA Cup Double under is too tempting to resist.

Despite his age, the veteran would certainly add some experience to the Goodison Park squad and his versatility across the back would also make him a useful addition.
Ivanovic scored four goals in 25 appearances last term to help Zenit to title glory.

He won the Premier League and FA Cup three times while at Chelsea as well as the Champions League and Europa League during a highly-successful period in the capital. More

The club’s £200million sponsorship deal with Yokohama Tyres ended last month meaning Chelsea stars have already begun wearing their new kit.
Although the strip failed to bring Chelsea much luck on its debut as Frank Lampard’s side fell 3-2 to West Ham.
Nevertheless, the new kit is expected to signal the start of a new era of dominance at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues tipped for a title challenge next season and still within FA Cup glory this term.
But fans hoping to don the exact same fabrics as the players will need to fork out a fortune, with the home shirt selling at £99.95.

The Vapor jersey is said to come with AeroSwift technology, which allows for maximum comfort and offers 20 per cent more stretch.
The official plain blue shorts with a Nike tick will then set supporters back a further £59.95, with socks an extra £15.95.
And overall costs will soar over the £200 mark should fans choose to get a name and number on the back.
One tweeted: “Chelsea are charging £15.99 for some white football socks with a tiny Chelsea lion on them for their new kit. F***ing mental price that!”

Another said: “The new Chelsea home kit is £99.95 without adding any extras…Looks like we’re all investing in the transfer window one way or the other.”

A third added: “Shirts used to last for two years before they changed. Around £50 each time is too much.”
A slightly cheaper Chelsea kit is also available, with the Blues selling a replica home shirt for £69.95 – the same price as the Women’s shirt.
The stadium jersey contains a few minor visual differences to the official strip and is much more loose-fitting.

Shorts for that outfit are also down to £34.95 although there is no cheaper alternative to the club’s white socks.
Meanwhile, parents will need to front £84.95 to dress their kids in the exact same shirt as Mason Mount and co.
But most will be hoping they can purchase the slightly more affordable £54.95 replica jersey for their children.
