Frank Lampard hits back at Jurgen Klopp and labels Liverpool boss a ‘hypocrite’ for criticising Chelsea summer spending

FRANK LAMPARD labelled Jurgen Klopp a hypocrite for criticising Chelsea’s summer spending.
Boss Lampard insists his £200m spree is merely playing catch up with Premier League champions Liverpool following a transfer ban.

Reds chief Klopp lost out to Chelsea in the £48m signing of striker Timo Werner and claims his team cannot operate like his Premier League rival.
But Lampard said: “There’s no point doing the maths. We know that Liverpool have spent at a high level
“With Liverpool, it’s a fantastic story of a club over the four and a half or five years that Jurgen Klopp’s been there where they’ve managed to get recruitment right to a really high level.
“The reality is most clubs that win the league in the modern day have recruited well and have recruited at quite a high level money wise.

“You can go through the Liverpool players Virgil Van Dijk, Alisson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Sadio Mane, Mo Salah – incredible players that came at a very high price.
“Liverpool have done it over a period of time. What we have done is come off the back of a ban and tried to address the situation ourselves to help improve us. It’s par for the course. We all know that.”
Werner opted to join Chelsea as one of FIVE major signings since February this year while the world has been in the economic grip of coronavirus.
The club’s Russian owner Roman Abramovich is a multi-billionaire with deep pockets.

Klopp said: ”For some clubs it is less important how uncertain the future is. Owned by oligarchs, owned by countries. We are a different kind of club.
“We cannot change it overnight and say we want to be like Chelsea.”
Chelsea have also had £150m sitting in the bank from the sale of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid last summer.

Liverpool signed centre half van Dijk from Southampton three years ago for a world record £75m. In 2018, keeper Alisson joined for £66.8m.
Lampard insists he finds the cheeky dig amusing rather than annoying but we will soon find out whether it will sour already frosty relations between the clubs.
Normally mild-mannered Lampard lost his cool during Chelsea’s 5-3 defeat at Liverpool last season in a ruck with the opposition bench.
It is something he has been anxious to sort out by saying: “I’ll put that right next time I see Klopp.”
Chelsea face the defending champions in their second game this Sunday.

Lampard said: “I was less annoyed with it. I found it slightly amusing because I think when you talk about the owners of clubs, I don’t think it matters what line of business they come from.
“We know they have an incredible coach. We know they have incredible players. The really smart thing Liverpool have done is believe in their coach and believe in their system for a number of years.
“It’s a great story but it’s a story where they’ve spent money on players. This summer we’ve spent money on players and now the hard work has to come.” More

Chelsea took advantage and ‘made good use’ of Covid-19 pandemic to secure Kai Havertz transfer, claims Leverkusen chief

CHELSEA made good use of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Bayer Leverkusen chief Rudi Voller.
The Blues snapped up Kai Havertz, 21, from the Germans in an £70million deal.

    2

Chelsea used the coronavirus period to their benefit in the transfer market signing Kai Havertz

    2

That is according to Bayer Leverkusen chief Rudi Voller

That came after they had also splashed the cash on Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech.
While Thiago Silva was brought in on a free.
The transfer spree has come at a time when the rest of football is desperately trying to stave off the financial implications of the Covid-19 pandemic.
And German legend Voller thinks the Blues have been shrewd in their business.

He told Bild: “Chelsea simply made good use of the coronavirus period.
“Next year it would have been much harder for Chelsea to get Kai.
“Other interested teams preferred to hold back because of the high transfer fee in this special and uncertain time.
“We also have significant revenue losses in times of the coronavirus.

“And we will, of course, take that into account and certainly not completely reinvest the transfer fee we got for Kai.

“Although we still have to do something to maintain the level or to improve.”
It recently emerged Havertz reportedly allowed Leverkusen to KEEP his £9million transfer bonus to ensure he got his move to Chelsea.
Sport Bild detail how Havertz’s interest in joining Chelsea was based around his love of manager Frank Lampard.
The German is said to have been in contact with the former England star for a number of months.
And the transfer came to a head in late August when Chelsea transfer fixer Marina Granovskaia sat down with Leverkusen bosses in the south of France.

The Bundesliga side were adamant they would only sell their prize asset for £90m.
But the Blues managed to cut a whopping £20m off that asking price, with reports in Germany insisting they are due to make bonus payments on top.
Havertz is certainly getting a fair deal with his weekly wage purported to be £310,000-a-week, on a five-year contract.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard ‘tells winger Callum Hudson-Odoi’ he may be loaned out after transfer arrival of Kai Havertz

CHELSEA have told winger Callum Hudson-Odoi that he could be loaned out this season after the signing of Kai Havertz, according to reports.
The England winger could struggle for game-time after the Blues brought in a number of new players this summer.

Chelsea’s £72million signing Havertz has joined Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner this summer in an exciting attacking trio that could keep Hudson-Odoi struggling for first-team action.
And according to 90min, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has told the wide man that he could be sent out on loan.
Hudson-Odoi started just seven Premier League games last season, after recovering from an achilles injury.
But his manager is said to have questioned his attitude and performances in training this summer.

The report continues that Lampard had already had concerns that Hudson-Odoi’s lack of form was down to a poor attitude.
Hudson-Odoi earned rave reviews from his manager after signing a lucrative long-term contract, after Bayern Munich had made a bid to sign him.
However, it is believed to realise his potential he may have to go on loan for more game-time experience, especially given he’s struggling to convince Lampard in training.

Hudson-Odoi managed 33 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring three goals and assisting six.

Most of those came during the opening few weeks of the season.
However, he could be included in the opener against Brighton on Monday with Ziyech ruled out with a knee injury.

Chelsea boss Lampard rules out N’Golo Kante transfer amid Inter Milan links as star is ‘fundamental’ to his plans

Inter Milan have failed with two bids for the World Cup winning midfielder.

Antonio Conte is desperately trying to raise some cash to make a third offer in excess of £50million for the Frenchman.
But Lampard maintains the 29-year-old is going nowhere.
He said: “I think pretty much every club in the world would want N’Golo Kante.
“I see those reports as well – he’s an incredible player.

“I certainly don’t want to lose him, no.
“He’s fundamental to what I’m trying to do.
“We can talk about the attacking players that we have but someone like N’Golo and the work he does in midfield.”
Lampard added: “It was a difficult year for him last year because of the injuries and he came into the season with an injury and it was a domino effect through the year, and it was probably a culmination of four or five years of game, game, game for himself.

“I’m really excited to have him fit.

“He looks fresh, he looks really fit and fresh at the moment, so no he’s a big deal for me.
“Of course I want to keep N’Golo Kante.”

Chelsea ‘have transfer bid for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy accepted’ with deal to be completed in ‘next few days’

CHELSEA have reportedly had a transfer bid accepted by Rennes for goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Frank Lampard has been desperate to bring in a new shot-stopper having grown impatient with Kepa Arrizabalaga, 25, following a number of mistakes.

Senegal international Mendy has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this month.
And now according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Blues moved a step closer to signing of the 28-year-old after improving their latest offer.
He tweeted: “The new bid from Chelsea for Edouard Mendy has been accepted by Rennes: here we go!
“Deal to be completed on next days, the goalkeeper is ready to fly to London and he’ll have medicals soon.

“Personal terms agreed days ago. Lampard will have his new GK.
“Personal terms already agreed. He’s pushing to leave and join #CFC… and he’s getting closer.”
Romano previously stated that once Chelsea secure Mendy’s services, they will turn their attention to West Ham’s Declan Rice.
Rennes president Nicolas Holveck revealed earlier this week that Mendy wants to join Chelsea.

    ED TURNER
He admitted: “We’ve started official negotiations with Chelsea to sell Edouard Mendy.
“We know the player wants to leave.
“But the agreement at the moment is not 100 per cent completed between the three parts.”

Chelsea ‘reject stunning N’Golo Kante for Christian Eriksen and Marcelo Brozovic swap transfer offer by Inter Milan’

CHELSEA have reportedly rejected a swap offer for Inter Milan involving Christian Eriksen and Marcelo Brozovic for N’Golo Kante.

And the Serie A side are willing to offload two of their own players in order to bring the ex-Leicester ace to Italy.
According to the Daily Mail, they have had their bid for Kante knocked back, with the Blues having no interest in either Eriksen or Brozovic.
It has been claimed that Frank Lampard would rather sell Jorginho ahead of the World Cup winner.
They add that Chelsea would consider cash bids for Kante, as they look to raise funds in order to prise Declan Rice away from West Ham.

Despite only joining from Tottenham in January, Inter are said to be already looking to cut their losses on Eriksen.
The Danish international scored just once and provided two assists in 17 Serie A games during the 2019-20 season.
He was limited to just eight league starts, and also started from the bench in the Europa League final defeat against Sevilla.

But the Blues do not want him or Brozovic in their squad as they feel they have too many midfielders in their ranks.
The futures of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are already in question, while Danny Drinkwater still has two years left on his contract.
Chelsea are also looking to part ways with Tiemoue Bakayoko, with AC Milan looking to bring him back to the club.

Chelsea reject N’Golo Kante bid from Inter Milan with Antonio Conte set to launch another transfer raid

CHELSEA have reportedly rejected a player-plus-cash offer from Inter Milan for N’Golo Kante.
The Serie A club’s boss Antonio Conte wants to reunite with the midfielder he had at Stamford Bridge this season in Italy.

    1

Antonio Conte has suffered a setback in his pursuit of N’Golo KanteCredit: AFP
His team allegedly tabled an offer that included Marcelo Brozovic as part of the package, but it was knocked back by the Blues.
And The Telegraph claims Chelsea also told Inter they have no interest in ex-Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen being part of the package either.
Conte has not been put off in his pursuit of Kante as he attempts to offload some of his squad to raise further transfer funds to make another offer.
With his club struggling for money, he hoped the inclusion of Croatian midfielder Brozovic may have enticed Chelsea into doing business.

Frank Lampard was then made aware that Eriksen could also be available, but unfortunately for Inter the Premier League outfit had no interest in the Dane.
Kante starred for Conte as the Blues romped to the title in 2017.

However, reports in the 29-year-old’s homeland state he wants to stay in West London.
Lampard has already indicated he wants to keep hold of the 2018 World Cup winner.

But he continues to be linked with West Ham’s Declan Rice, who would add further competition for Kante. More

Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater reveals he is seeing psychologist and £110k-a-week ‘doesn’t solve anything’

DANNY DRINKWATER has revealed he is seeing a sports psychologist following a number of off-the-field incidents that have halted his career.
The 30-year-old – who has stated he is on the lookout for a new club – has played just 28 games in the last three seasons.

    2

Danny Drinkwater was sent off on two different loan spells by Chelsea last seasonCredit: PA
He has failed to make a name for himself at Chelsea following his £34million switch from Leicester in 2017, and endured two miserable loan spells at Burnley and Aston Villa.
In recent times the England international has been charged with drink driving, been beaten up outside a nightclub last September and headbutted former Villans team-mate Jota.
Drinkwater has opened up on how he has fallen out of love with football, but is looking forward to rebuilding his career.
Speaking to the Telegraph, he said: “I know my Chelsea move hasn’t worked out how anybody would have wanted and I’ve made mistakes, but it’s not as simple as me just not playing football or picking up a wage.

“Money doesn’t solve anything. The pay cheque doesn’t really help at all, you don’t even think about money.
“There have been things that come above football that have not been as simple as I’d like.
“I’m not looking for sympathy, f*** me I don’t want that, but I suppose I’d just like people to understand it’s not all gravy when you earn so much money and that I do care.”

    2

Drinkwater after nightclub attack last September
Reflecting on being banned for drink driving whilst not in the plans of Maurizio Sarri, he commented: “I won’t use Chelsea as an excuse for the drink driving.

“Obviously, my mental state wasn’t the best, but it was ridiculous and it should never have happened.”
He then lifted the lid on what happened outside of the nightclub during his loan at Turf Moor, with it initially claimed he was attacked after flirting with another man’s girlfriend.
Drinkwater said: “I was pinching around the team then. Someone said I had tried to chat up some footballer’s girlfriend, but that just wasn’t the case.
“I got jumped and beaten up. It was an international break, so I wasn’t breaking any rules by going out and having a drink. But the timing was awful and the fact I twisted my ankle was the worst thing.
“I went in for a scan the next day and found out it was to do with the bone and I couldn’t believe it. It was just like, ‘Could this get any worse?’.”
After failing to make an impact at Burnley he was sent off on loan to Villa, but once again he hit the headlines following his confrontation with Jota.

After failing to feature against the Foxes, he said: “I got some stick from the fans and I woke up and I was raging. After training I planned to go and speak to Dean Smith about things, but then I went and headbutted Jota.
“We were on the same team, that’s how stupid it was. I’ve never done that, I’ve never laid someone out before. It was ridiculous. I apologised straight away and I had to go home.
“I texted him straight after to apologise and take full responsibility. I Google translated it into Spanish as well to make sure he’d understand.”
