Petr Cech was behind Chelsea signing new goalkeeper after working with flop Kepa in training as Mendy nears transfer

Senegal international Mendy is expected to join on a five-year deal, where he will challenge Kepa Arrizabalaga for the No1 spot at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking ahead of Mendy’s imminent arrival prior to the Carabao Cup clash against Barnsley, Lampard stated he leans on former team-mate Cech for advice.
He said: “Petr was important in that because goalkeeper is a very particular position.
“Petr Cech was the best in the world in that position for a long time so he’s obviously had a big say in this situation.

“From my point of view, I lean heavily on him when it comes to goalkeeping today and in the future.
“So yes, he was very influential.”
Chelsea legend Cech – who is now the club’s technical and performance adviser – has admitted that Kepa under-performed for the club last season.
He told Sport.CZ: “Kepa struggled last season, that is unquestionable.

“But the club invested in him and gave him a long-term contract because they believe he has the qualities and attributes to be successful.”
And prior to Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat against Liverpool, he was seen lending a helping hand to the Spanish shot-stopper in training.
Former Blues defender Frank Leboeuf has hailed the signing of Mendy, as he claimed he is “far better” than the ex-Athletic Bilbao ace.

Chelsea new boy Thiago Silva opens up on ‘unusual situation’ of meeting Alex Mann – who rapped his name at Glastonbury

CHELSEA new-boy Thiago Silva has opened up on the “unusual situation” of meeting Alex Mann – the teenager who rapped his name at Glastonbury.
Teenager Mann, then 15-years-old, went viral last summer after he rapped every word of Dave song ‘Thiago Silva’ – named after the-then Paris Saint-Germain star.

Two months later, Mann was invited to meet the Brazilian in Paris.
And the youngster posted a photo of the Brazilian signing the PSG shirt he wore for his famous performance performed for millions – both in attendance and on TV.
And now, the Blues new-boy – who completed his free transfer to Stamford Bridge this summer – has opened up about the day.
Silva said: “It was a very unusual situation because I had never heard of the song before.

“This video of the lad Alex coming out of the crowd wearing my shirt, he got on stage and sang the song with all the other artists and it went viral.
“Of course, it arrived to me in Paris and I then got the opportunity to meet Alex and thank him…
“Sometimes us footballers lose the idea of the influence and reach that we have.

“So I was really happy, it was pleasing that there’s a song with my name. I remember that day well.”

After his flawless rendition, Mann revealed he was offered his own gigs and even a contract with BooHooMan.
He later revealed: “Thiago Silva asked for my phone number – he wants to have a chat with me but he’s busy with the Copa America.”

Two Kop stars are worth more than £100m each – with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both rated at £108m.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is worth £99m, with FIVE further players worth £50m or more.

Meanwhile, the Man City squad is worth £933m – putting them above Barcelona at £910m, in third.

The Blues’ squad is now worth a sky-high £826m after bringing in seven new faces this summer, including Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.

Manchester United are only at seventh in the table at £719.5m – nearly £300m behind Liverpool.

Mendy undergoing Chelsea medical to complete £22m transfer from Rennes as Lampard confirms he can start vs West Brom

FRANK LAMPARD has confirmed Edouard Mendy is undergoing his medical following a £22million move to Chelsea and will be available for the West Brom game on Saturday.
The 6ft 6in Senegalese stopper, 28, is set to sign a five-year contract at the Blues.

And Lampard confirmed Mendy could play as early as Saturday in the Premier League trip to West Brom.
The goalkeeper must first pass his medical and return a negative test for coronavirus.
Lampard said that all being well, they would be able to welcome Mendy by Thursday – just in time for Saturday’s league game.
The Chelsea chief revealed the news while insisting under-fire Kepa Arrizabalaga still has a role in the team and “wants to improve”.

Lampard said: “I think competition is a regular thing at a club like Chelsea.
“The goalkeeper situation isn’t always as clear cut as that… Kepa himself wants to improve his own performances.
“It’s in everyone’s hands to push and develop to try and get in the team.
“I am not making any final statements at all in this minute.

“It is the hardest position because of the individual nature of it and mistakes get punished with goals.
“I understand that and as a manager I have to be sympathetic to that point. I am very aware of that.
“As far as I’m aware, as long as [Mendy] passes his test with us on Thursday and if that is negative then he should be OK to play.”
Mendy becomes Chelsea’s SEVENTH signing of the summer in a monster £222m splurge.
Centre-backs Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr were snapped up on frees.
Hakim Ziyech cost £36m to sign from Ajax, with £45m spent on Leicester’s Ben Chilwell.
Meanwhile, Chelsea paid £47m to release Timo Werner from his RB Leipzig contract.
They then matched their club transfer record by shelling out £72m on Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.

Atletico Madrid ‘listening to transfer offers’ for Diego Costa with Luis Suarez unlikely to link up with ex-Chelsea star

ATLETICO MADRID are reportedly listening to offers for Diego Costa – but the ex-Chelsea star is unlikely to link up Luis Suarez.
The LaLiga giants have been put on red alert after Juventus revealed they would NOT be signing the Barcelona outcast.

Earlier this month, Ronald Koeman revealed Suarez was not in his plans.
Juve quickly made their move, with Suarez even passing the mandatory Italian exam.
But director Fabio Paratici revealed it would take too long to sort his passport and will look elsewhere.
Soon after, Suarez, 33, is claimed to have terminated his contract at the Nou Camp a year early.

Atletico Madrid now look to be the favourites to sign Suarez, beating the Uruguayan’s former club, Ajax to a £13.5million deal.
However, it’s believed Los Rojiblancos will be forced to sell before they can buy.
Reports in Europe claim Juventus are hoping to take advantage of the situation with a move for Alvaro Morata.

The Spaniard, 27, only made his loan move to the Wanda Metropolitano permanent this summer, from Chelsea.

But Juve are willing to offer a £9m loan fee for the season, with a view to a £42m permanent deal next summer.
Now, AS claim Atleti could actively pursue a move away for 31-year-old Costa.
No club has yet made an offer, but the Spaniards believe he could find a new home in Turkey.

Frank Lampard to install CCTV at Chelsea training ground to stop ‘Spygate 2.0’ with fears rivals could steal tactics

CHELSEA are set to install CCTV at their training ground in a bid to avoid any Spygate-style drama.
Leeds were infamously fined £200,000 in 2019 after admitting to spying on Derby training ahead of a crunch Championship play-offs clash during Frank Lampard’s time at the Rams.

In a bid to avoid any more of his tactics being leaked, the now-Stamford Bridge chief is hoping to have cameras installed at the club’s Cobham base.
Chelsea have already applied for planning permission to add the CCTV system to their training facilities.
The Premier League club’s architects claimed they would use “leading camera and software technology to ensure any attempts to breach the perimeter are identified in real time and appropriately responded to”.
They added they hope to provide a “proportionate and unobtrusive scheme to suitably protect the site from identified risks or security breaches”.

It’s claimed Chelsea will use state-of-the-art technology which can make out images in poor light, as well thermal and infra-red cameras.
The Blues have endured a mixed start to the season.
Lampard and Co got off to a flyer with their army of new stars in the 3-1 win over Brighton on the opening weekend.
However, they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at home to a ruthless Liverpool – with Andreas Christensen sent-off on the stroke of half-time for a rugby-style tackle on Sadio Mane.

Next up, the Blues take on Barnsley in their Carabao Cup third-round clash, before travelling to basement-boys West Brom in the league.
The big decision for Lampard revolves around the future of Kepa Arrizabalaga – who endured another horrid afternoon against the Reds.
Lampard has vowed to support Kepa, but is thought to be close to securing the £22million signing of Rennes stopper Edouard Mendy.
