Chelsea star Reece James joins Marcus Rashford in fight against child poverty by donating £10k to food charity

CHELSEA right-back Reece James has donated £10,000 to a London food charity with the aim of raising £100,000 by December.
The 20-year-old has joined Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford in the fight to end hunger.

Reece James has donated £10,000 to a London food charity in his bid to end hunger

According to the Daily Mail, the England international has been working with the Felix Project – a charity that delivers surplus food to those in need of it in the capital.

He has pledged a five-figure sum to the organisation in his bid to tackle food poverty.
It has also been claimed that James is hoping to raise ten times the amount he has pledged before his 21st birthday on December 8.
The Mail state that the ex-Wigan loanee is launching a fundraising page to help the charity.

They aim to deliver a whopping 19million meals by the end of 2020.
For every £10 that is donated to the Felix Project, 61 meals will be able to be delivered to those in need.
James has enjoyed a fine start to the season with Chelsea, chipping in with one goal and one assist in six games in all competitions.
His Three Lions team-mate Rashford has been influential in his quest to get school kids free meals during the holidays.

His petition has so far reached over one million signatures – leading Gary Lineker to hail the forward as a ‘wonderful example’.
Rashford has also raised £20million for charity FareShare, and volunteered his own time to help staff last week.
Speaking of the player, Lineker told Melissa Reddy on her podcast ‘Between The Lines’: “I think it’s great, and I’m really proud of some of our young footballers for the way they’ve spoken out about certain causes.
“Whether it’s been racism, where, you know, a lot of players have got together and helped things.
“Raheem Sterling, in particular, Wes Morgan, Troy Deeney, and others.
“And then you’ve got what Marcus Rashford has done for example, in terms of feeding our poorest children. What a wonderful example he’s set.”

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard picks his dream seven-a-side team from opponents he’s faced led by Messi and Ronaldo

FRANK LAMPARD has named Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in his dream seven-a-side team made up of stars he played against.
The Chelsea boss has also opted to name two of his former England team-mates in Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard.

This is the dream seven-a-side team that Frank Lampard has chosen out of players he has competed against

Unsurprisingly, the 42-year-old went for an attacking side with just one defender and two midfielders.

Speaking at a virtual Q&A hosted by Hyundai, the former West Ham midfielder was asked a number of questions by kids.
And when asked to create a seven-a-side team out of the best players he has competed against, Lampard went all-out attack.
He said: “It’s Neuer, Rio (Ferdinand), Steven Gerrard, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Messi and Ronaldo.”

To which the young inquisitor remarked: “Yeah, that is a sick team to be fair.”
His squad included 13 Ballon d’Or wins, with Messi and Ronaldo sharing 11 awards between them, while Zidane and Ronaldinho have each won the prestigious trophy once.
Here SunSport runs you down Lampard’s full team.

    Manuel Neuer
The Bayern Munich goalkeeper was the man between the sticks when Lampard helped Chelsea beat the Bavarian outfit in the 2012 Champions League final.
And he was also in goal when Lampard’s looping attempt in the 2010 World Cup Round of 16 clash failed to be given despite the ball being well over the line.
    Rio Ferdinand
Lampard came through the ranks at West Ham with the defender as well as being in the same England team for 12 years.
And he enjoyed a number of battles when Ferdinand was at Manchester United – with the Red Devils beating the Blues in the 2008 European Cup final.
    Steven Gerrard
Lampard and Gerrard spent 14 years playing in the middle of the park together for England.
But just like with Rio at United, Lampard’s Blues side had a fierce rivalry with Liverpool – not least in the Champions League – with Chelsea beating the Reds in the League Cup final in 2005.

    Zinedine Zidane
A Zidane-inspired masterclass helped France beat England 2-1 at Euro 2004.
The Real Madrid legend scored twice in injury time to cancel out Lampard’s early opener.
    Ronaldinho
Few forget THAT Ronaldinho goal at Stamford Bridge in 2005 when he beat Petr Cech from range with the outside of his right boot.
But it was Lampard who had the last laugh as Chelsea beat Barcelona 5-4 on aggregate to advance to the quarter-finals.
    Cristiano Ronaldo
Both Lampard and Ronaldo scored in the 2008 Champions League final, where United beat Chelsea on penalties.
Ronaldo missed his spot-kick in the shoot-out, while Lampard found the back of the net.

    Lionel Messi
Chelsea and Barca have had a number of classic matches over the years.
In ten games against the West Londoners, Messi has chipped in with three goals and three assists.
But perhaps his biggest moment against the Blues was his penalty miss in the 2012 semi-final that proved key in Chelsea advancing to the final.

Watch Timo Werner rifle in penalty after Jorginho MISSES as Chelsea fans demand German as regular taker

CHELSEA fans want Timo Werner to become their new penalty taker after Jorginho missed another spot-kick on Wednesday.
The Blues squandered a great chance to take the lead just 15 minutes into their Champions League group stage clash in Russia at FC Krasnodar.

The star’s penalty came back off the post during the first halfCredit: BT Sport

Summer signing Timo Werner was tripped by defender Kaio Fernando da Silva Pantaleao inside the box leaving the ref no option but to blow.
Italian midfielder Jorginho placed down the ball and proceeded with his trademark run and hop technique – only to see his effort cannon back off the post despite sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Late on in the game the Premier League side were awarded another penalty – and this time Werner showed his subbed off team-mate exactly how to do it as he powered to fire his team into a 2-0 lead.

Jorginho has now missed two of his last four – and Chelsea supporters watching the action have taken to Twitter to declare they want Werner to take over spot-kick duties.

The ex-Napoli man, who scored two against Crystal Palace recently despite Tammy Abraham trying to take the second one off him, had one saved by Liverpool stopper Alisson back in September.
Callum Hudson-Odoi did manage to spare some of the midfielder’s blushes as he put the Blues ahead just before the break, with Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic also scoring in a 4-0 win.
BT Sport pundits Jermaine Jenas and Joe Cole still believe Jorginho is the man for duty when they were asked about his penalty capabilities at half time.
Jenas: “I still think he’s the man.

“Yes, he’s missed a couple this season but I think when you take an unorthodox type penalty it makes people more likely to call for a change but the reality is he’s still a very good penalty taker.”

Cole added: “It amazes me every time I see it, I don’t know how he sends the goalkeeper the wrong way.
“He’s seen the keeper go and he’s just scuffed it. It’s unusual for him.”
However, Chelsea fans had a somewhat different view judging by their Twitter comments, and some got their wish towards full-time when Werner converted from 12 yards without any problems.
Here’s what they had to say:

So that’s it. I never want to see Jorginho taking a penalty for us again. Not only is he taking goals away from our attacking players, he’s now not even scoring. Time to give them to Werner. Joke that he was on them to begin with. #KRACHE
    — Jake Heasman (@jakeheasman) October 28, 2020

Is there a way Lamps can sub off Jorginho anytime Chelsea has a penalty so Werner can take it and then sub him on after Werner scores it?#KRACHE
    — P’all Muzik (@olatunjipaul9) October 28, 2020

Lampard defended Jorginho afterwards, but admitted he would talk to his players to see if they wanted to deitch responsibility.
He said: “Jorginho has an incredibly successful rate of scoring penalties in his career, particularly at Chelsea.
“I feel that when you take many penalties as he does there can be periods where you miss one, sometimes miss one or two.
“I experienced that as a player. But I have no problem at all; with his style, because of the success he has had.
“Werner I know is very capable in taking penalties as we saw. We have other players that can.
“So, I will talk to the players afterwards to see how we move forward. But we have good takers at the club.”

Five stars who quit Chelsea and became world class including Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah

EVERY time Kevin De Bruyne or Mohamed Salah puts in a Man of the Match performance, Chelsea fans are hit with a pinch of sadness.
Unfortunately for Blues supporters, those two are now undisputed world superstars.

De Bruyne has evolved into arguably the best midfielder on the planet since leaving ChelseaCredit: AFP – Getty

But, before they reached their current elite level, they were once allowed to leave Stamford Bridge as underplayed, underachieving youngsters.
And they’re not the only two either.
We’ve taken a look at FIVE players who failed to make the grade at Chelsea who are now superstars elsewhere.

    KEVIN DE BRUYNE
NOW quite possibly the best midfielder on the planet, it’s barely-believable De Bruyne was once considered a Chelsea misfit.

Having signed from Belgian side Genk in 2011-12, the now-Manchester City star played just two Premier League games for the Blues.
On the periphery of the first-team squad, De Bruyne was loaned to Werder Bremen, before being sold to Wolfsburg for just £16.7m.
There, De Bruyne’s class shone through and his career took off, joining City for £55million in 2015.
The pass-master has won two Premier League trophies at City in easily the club’s greatest era – as part of one of England’s most dominant teams.

    MOHAMED SALAH

Salah has gone from strength to strength since leaving Chelsea, including massive successes at LiverpoolCredit: AFP or licensors
SALAH joined Chelsea from Basel in 2014 – but played just 13 times in the league, scoring twice.
In 2015 and 2016, the Egyptian was loaned out to Fiorentina and Roma – before joining the latter permanently, in a deal worth around £11m.
After just one season in the Italian capital, Liverpool were surprise suitors, bringing Salah back to the Premier League in a deal worth £36.7m.
In his first season at the Reds, Salah broke the Premier League record for most goals in a 38-game season.
In his second season, he won the Champions League.
And in his third – and most-recent – season, Salah inspired Liverpool to Premier League success.
Salah is now easily ranked as one of the world’s best forwards – and will always be the one who got away from Chelsea.
    ROMELU LUKAKU

Romelu Lukaku was barely given a sniff at Chelsea and is now thriving at Inter MilanCredit: AP:Associated Press
AFTER joining Chelsea from Anderlecht as a youngster in 2011, Lukaku was tipped for greatness.
However, he played just ten times in the Premier League, was loaned to West Brom and ultimately sold to Everton.
Lukaku immediately showed his potential and scored 53 Premier League goals in just 110 games.
The Belgian moved to Manchester United in a £75m deal where he maintained a decent scoring record, but generally underwhelmed.
Now, Lukaku is finally living up to his incredible promise, shining at Inter Milan under another ex-Chelsea man, boss Antonio Conte.
Lukaku has scored 41 goals in just 58 games at the Italian giants.
    NATHAN AKE

THE Dutch defender joined Chelsea’s youth ranks from Feyenoord in 2011, before moving to the senior squad a year later.
But Ake made just seven appearances for the Blues in the Premier League and was loaned out to Reading, Watford and Bournemouth.
Ake eventually found a permanent home on the south coast and became a superstar for the Cherries.
Bournemouth fought hard to keep Ake for three years – in which he played over 100 times in the Premier League.
But with Manchester United and City both knocking, the Cherries eventually cashed in to the tune of £40m following their relegation in the summer.
Now at the Etihad, Ake is a star of both Pep Guardiola’s City and European force Holland who seems destined to only shine brighter as time goes on.
    NEMANJA MATIC

SIGNED from now-defunct Slovak side Kosice in 2009, Matic was tipped to become an attacking midfield superstar at the Blues.
The Serbian midfielder had played just twice in the Premier League and was loaned out to Vitesse in Holland.
But after two years – and a switch to a more defensive role – Matic was sold to Benfica as part of the 2011 deal that saw David Luiz arrive at Stamford Bridge.
But after starring at Benfica, Chelsea splashed out £21m – nearly 20 times what they initially bought him for – to re-sign him in 2014.
Matic would later join Man Utd, in 2017 – where he still plays to this day.

Man Utd and Chelsea top league table of youth academy kids currently playing in Premier League as top 20 teams revealed

MANCHESTER UNITED have the best youth system in the world when it comes to youngsters making the grade in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have long been renowned for their incredible academy, churning out a host of future stars, including the Class of 92.

Clubs with the most youth products currently playing in the Premier League, either with them or elsewhere

Just last season, the club brought-up an incredible milestone, as they played their 4,000th consecutive game with an academy product in the match-day squad.
But even in the present day, United have the most-prolific youth ranks.
Incredibly, there are currently 18 Old Trafford kids starring in the Premier League – either with them or at rival clubs, according to bettingodds.
That’s four more than the next-best club, Chelsea, with 14.

United have eight players in their current squad who made it through the youth ranks with ten more playing elsewhere.
Marcus Rashford is the headline act, but Brandon Williams, Dean Henderson, Jesse Lingard, Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay and Teden Mengi are all in the first-team squad this season.
The only other club with eight academy products in their current senior squad are West Ham, including the likes of Mark Noble and Declan Rice.
The Hammers sit joint-fourth in the overall standings, with 11 academy products spread across the Premier League.

Each PL team’s most-valuable academy product

    Arsenal – Bukayo Saka (£36m)
Aston Villa – Jack Grealish (£40.5m)
    Brighton – Lewis Dunk (£24.3m)
    Burnley – Dwight McNeil (£22.5m)
    Chelsea – Mason Mount (£40.5m)
Crystal Palace – Wilfried Zaha (£45m)
    Everton – Tom Davies (£14.4m)

    Tottenham – Harry Kane (£108m)
West Brom – Romaine Sawyer (£2.88m)
West Ham – Declan Rice (£49.5m)
    Wolves – N/A

Southampton (13) sit ahead of the Irons, with Arsenal level on 11 and Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham all on 10.
Leeds’ academy has churned out nine top-flight stars, with Benfica and Ajax the first foreign clubs on the list, both turning out EIGHT Premier League stars apiece.
Benfica have churned out the likes of Man City duo Ederson and Bernardo Silva, while Ajax have given the league Donny van de Beek and Steven Bergwijn amongst others.
Other non-Premier League sides to have players from their academies currently starring in the top-flight include Nottingham Forest (7), Sporting Lisbon (7), Barcelona (6) and Charlton (6).
At the other end of the spectrum, Wolves and Fulham both have ZERO academy products in their current first-team squad.
In terms of nations, England understandably lead the way in terms of academy products in the Premier League.
No fewer than 251 top-flight players graduated from English clubs.
France come second on 44, with Spain (31), Brazil (25), Portugal (23) and Holland (19) completing the top five.

PL clubs with own youth products in current senior squad

No boss is immune from criticism, not even Frank Lampard – but fans calling for his head already is just ludicrous

IN football, it is normal for fans to offer criticism to players and managers – it’s all part of the game whatever level you are involved with.
It is a fan’s right to voice their opinions on any matter involving the club they spend their hard-earned money and time supporting.

Fans calling for Frank Lampard’s head is just ludicrousCredit: Reuters

No player or manager should be immune to criticism and every one of them should be judged in the same way, regardless of whether they are a club legend or not.
Frank Lampard has had an inconsistent start to his career as Chelsea manager, that much is undeniable.
His biggest problem has been the defence and how easily they leak goals, so right now Lampard is working on finding that balance.
You can rightly criticise some of his tactics and his in-game management, as that has been questionable at times.

Whether it is switching formations too often and not building a consistent starting XI or making the wrong substitutions too late in the game, there are a number of things fans are rightly questioning.
Lampard doesn’t seem to know his best formation or how to use his shiny new signings yet, but this can be quite normal when you add SEVEN new players to your starting XI from last season.
It is important Lampard gets it right, but it must not be rushed.
He has some world-class talent at his disposal and he needs to get them playing their best football as soon as possible.

But this cannot be at the expense of the defence, or the attack.
If you are calling for Lampard to be sacked already, or are giving up on him now, then I must question your lack of patience.
All of Chelsea’s top-class new signings have stated that Lampard is partly the reason they joined this club.
They have a firm belief in him, so why shouldn’t we?
He clearly needs some help coaching and organising the defensive side of his management, and all the top managers have a top group of coaches to help with this.
Lampard knew this, which is why he bought in highly regarded coach Anthony Barry, and why he got Petr Cech more hands on in training.
You have seen the signs of improving defensive stability already this season.
Chelsea have kept three clean sheets out of their last four matches; this is a huge step forward.

Dropping Hudson-Odoi for Mount was an odd decision from LampardCredit: EPA
Lampard is a highly-intelligent man, he knows that he must win games now and to do this he needs to get that balance between the defence and the attack.
I too have disagreed with many of Lampard’s decisions, and I will continue to voice my concerns.
I believe he should have kept playing Callum Hudson-Odoi on the wing after his run of good form, rather than selecting central midfielder Mason Mount out wide instead.
And I also question his treatment of Fikayo Tomori, who has disappeared from the squad once again.
But for me to lose patience and give up on Lampard right now would just be ludicrous.
He is on the brink of building something special at this club, and I firmly believe the results will soon come.
If they don’t, then yes, the pressure will rightly ramp up on Lampard, because this is a results-based business and victories earn profits.

How Chelsea could line-up at FK Krasnodar with Kepa out injured, Marcos Alonso suspended and changes in attack

CHELSEA take on Krasnodar on Wednesday evening in the second match of their Champions League campaign.
And Frank Lampard has a selection conundrum on his hands.

How Chelsea could line-up for their game vs Krasnodar

Having only managed a draw at home to Sevilla in the opener, the Blues will desperately want a win in Russia.
However, with a congested fixture schedule and a nightmare journey to Russia and back, Lampard could opt to rotate his stars.
Should Lampard pick his strongest XI, he only has Kepa Arrizabalaga (injury) and Marcos Alonso (suspension) missing from his potential starters.
That means Edouard Mendy, almost certainly now his first choice anyway, will likely start ahead of Willy Caballero.

In defence, Reece James, Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma and Ben Chilwell comprise Lampard’s strongest back-four.
Jorginho and N’Golo Kante would likely continue their midfield pivot in the 4-2-3-1 system.
Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner would complete the team in a dangerous-looking front-four.
However, Chelsea could opt to play the 3-4-3 / 5-2-3 formation they rolled out for the 0-0 draw with Manchester United at the weekend.

Another way Lampard could send out his team vs Krasnodar

In that scenario, Silva would likely be joined by Cesar Azpilicueta and one of Zouma, Andreas Christensen or forgotten-man Fikayo Tomori.
In midfield Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic could push Kante or Jorginho for a start with plenty of defensive cover behind them.
Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Olivier Giroud will also be battling it out for a spot in the team in a new-look attack.
Chelsea take on Krasnodar on Wednesday October 28, with kick-off at 5.55pm.

How Chelsea could line-up at Man Utd with Mendy to start in goal, Thiago Silva fit and firing and Hakim Ziyech in attack

CHELSEA travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Saturday desperate to get back on track.
The Blues slipped to a frustrating draw against Sevilla midweek – with Frank Lampard likely to be buoyed by the rare clean sheet.

How Chelsea could line-up for their game at Man Utd

Last week, his side let-in three goals in the 3-3 draw with Southampton.
But, in a major boost, Edouard Mendy is fit to return, meaning £71.6million stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga has likely played his last game for Chelsea.
Thiago Silva played against Sevilla and will likely keep his place in the heart of defence against Man Utd.
The Brazilian could even go head-to-head with former Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Edinson Cavani – with the latter tipped to replace suspended Anthony Martial.

Silva will likely be joined in the heart of defence by Kurt Zouma – with Reece James and Ben Chilwell completing the flat-back-four.
Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen will be hoping to play having missed out midweek.
Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are near-certainties to continue in the two deep midfield roles.
Kai Havertz will continue in front of them, in the roaming No10 position.

Another way Lampard could send out his troops at Old Trafford

Timo Werner is set to continue leading the line as he looks to add to his Premier League tally after getting off the mark against Saints.
Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud are likely to start on the bench.
It’s in the wide areas where Lampard will have a decision or two to make.
Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic have started in those roles of late.
But with Hakim Ziyech seemingly fully-fit and desperate for his first start, one of those two could be sacrificed.
Ziyech would likely start on the right, with Pulisic on the left – meaning Lampard could leave his star pupil out of the XI.
