England and Germany set to fight over Bayern Munich prodigy Jamal Musiala who has starred since leaving Chelsea academy

ENGLAND and Germany are set for an international tug-of-war over Bayern Munich’s former Chelsea prospect Jamal Musiala.
The 17-year-old winger is joining up with the Three Lions’ Under-21 squad next week.

But the Daily Mail claims he is also due to be invited to train with Germany.
Musiala is one of the hottest young prospects in the Bundesliga after a major breakthrough at the Champions League holders.
He has scored twice in his seven appearances already this campaign.
The teen was born in Stuttgart to a Nigerian father and a German mother but the family moved to England when he was a child.

That means he is also eligible for the African nation but is likely to opt for either the Three Lions or Germany.
Musiala signed for Chelsea as a schoolboy but left the Blues for Bayern at 16.
He has British citizenship and has played for both Germany and England at age-group levels, and also speaks both languages fluently.
Fifa rules state a player has not committed his international allegiance until he plays in a competitive fixture for the senior team.

England will be boosted by the fact he accepted their U21s call.
But Gareth Southgate and his youth coaches at the FA will be expecting a response from their German counterparts.
And he will reportedly receive a call to their U21s in the next international break in 2021.

Thiago Silva’s English ‘improving’ says Lampard after fears of confusion in Chelsea defence as boss lauds summer signing

CHELSEA boss Frank Lampard has revealed Thiago Silva’s English language skills are improving – and his side are now reaping the rewards.
The Brazil legend, 36, has put in a string of flawless performances since enduring a tricky debut in the 3-3 draw with West Brom.

During the former Paris Saint-Germain’s star Premier League bow, the Blues’ back-line looked all at sea, with Lampard forced to deny the language barrier would be a problem.
Since that day, Silva has played five times – keeping a clean sheet in every one of those games, most-recently in the 3-0 win over Rennes.
And Chelsea chief Lampard has suggested Silva’s improved English language skills have helped both him and the team.

Lampard said: “His English is improving in particular the football side of his English… the important words on or around the pitch.
“His influence has been huge. Without the language, his professionalism has been very clear, it rubs off on the players.
“They respect him and his performances have been very, very good.”
Lampard continued by saying he hopes Silva can have the same impact as the likes of Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk and Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany.

In the past few years, it’s become even more clear how linked Premier League success is to having a dependable defensive unit.

When asked if Silva can be talked about in the same breath as Van Dijk and Kompany. Lampard claimed: “In terms of the career he’s had, of course he’s in that bracket…
“He absolutely walks into that bracket of top centre backs.
“Teams who have achieved in recent times have individuals or pairings that set those kinds of standards.
“It’s imperative and we know the importance of defending well to try to win trophies, particularly Premier League titles.
“But they do also need support behind them, around them, in front of them.
“When you look at the performances of Thiago in his early games, the impact I keep talking about him having, he can be a big deal for us.
“But we need a lot more than that, of course, we need a lot more, so I don’t want to crown him with anything now.”

Five Chelsea transfers likely to go ahead in January with FOUR players leaving and Declan Rice coming in

WE are well aware of what a great summer Chelsea had in the transfer market in terms of player arrivals at the club.
Frank Lampard needed to add a number of quality players to his squad in order to improve and push on from last season, and he has been fully backed by the board with this.

But they have been left with a rather large squad as a result, having failed to oust a number of fringe players.
In January we are very likely to see the departures of the following four players at least.
    Marcos Alonso
Emerson Palmieri appears to be the designated second choice left back for Lampard this season, so it is unlikely that we will see him leave.
But Alonso looks to be well and truly out of favour under Lampard and as a result, he will be out the door come winter as well.

He has been linked with a number of Italian and Spanish sides and will probably go on loan to one of them for the rest of the season having still got a relatively long contract (2023) left with Chelsea.

    Olivier Giroud
I always feared for the French World Cup winner when Timo Werner arrived, and I knew he would have to largely be third choice striker.
He will need more than this with his aims to carry on leading the line for France, so he will surely be asking to leave in January as a result.

His contract runs out in the summer, so it will be a fee of very little to sell him this winter.

    Kepa Arrizabalaga
I don’t entirely buy into the ‘Petr Cech was added to the Chelsea squad due to the uncertainty of Covid-19’ story from the club, especially when they have a number of decent academy goalkeepers who can be drafted in if needed.
No, I believe they know what is coming, and that is a loan move out for Kepa.
A lot like Giroud, the Spanish international will have to get regular game time or risk losing his place in the coming Euros.
With Edouard Mendy nailing down a regular spot at Chelsea, Kepa must leave to get game time.

    Fikayo Tomori
The curious case of Fikayo Tomori. For the second season running, he started as a potential regular, but since then he has become fourth or fifth choice centre-back.
Is there something we do not know about behind the scenes?
Perhaps, but I believe he will absolutely go on loan this January i order to get first team football.
Everton have been strongly linked and could enter the fray once again.

    Arrival – Declan Rice
There might be more than one arrival at Chelsea in January, but that will depend on circumstances with the current climate, and if Chelsea can sell any players.
But one thing for sure is, expect another move from Chelsea to try and sign Declan Rice.
He is firmly wanted by Lampard, and the board is prepared to sanction the move.
They face a battle to sign him though, with West Ham obviously not interested in selling at all, but the player is keen on the move and could be tempted to try and force it this time around.

Billy Gilmour targets Chelsea return after international break following devastating knee injury and surgery

CHELSEA starlet Billy Gilmour is targeting a return to first team action after the international break as he recovers from a knee injury.
The 19-year-old has been out since July after he was diagnosed with a torn meniscus following the 3-2 win against Crystal Palace.

Chelsea midfielder Gilmour featured 11 times for the club during the 2019-20 season

Speaking on the Four Lads Had a Dream Podcast, the teenager revealed he is hoping to be back in contention by the end of the month.

He said: “Hopefully when I come back after the international break I can start to kick on again, get over my injury and start playing games for the team. I can’t wait.”
The Scottish youth international also declared that he has likely been carrying the injury since 2016.

Gilmour claimed: “Ever since the [2016] Victory Shield days, I had to wear tape round my knee.
“And I always felt that something was wrong. Since I came to Chelsea, I have had a problem with my knee at the end of the season.
“When it came to Crystal Palace, I felt something go in my knee in the first half. The adrenaline was helping me kick through it but you don’t think straight away ‘this is a bad injury’.
“You think ‘I have had a knock, I will be fine next week’. From that, I got told I had to go and have surgery on my meniscus.

“Coping was fine and obviously I had family around me. I was in crutches for four or five weeks so my family were helping me about the house.

“Going into training, everyone in the team was keeping my mind off the injury and talking about other stuff.
“I was always happy, the boys were very good with me when they saw me and talked about football and other stuff.
“That was good mentally. I was thinking about the injury all the time and that wasn’t a good thing, but I coped well.”
Gilmour featured 11 times for Chelsea in all competitions, earning widespread praise for his performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup.
Reports last month claimed that the ex-Rangers youth star could be loaned out in January along with Fikayo Tomori.

Chelsea player ratings: Thiago Silva puts in another flawless performance as Hakim Ziyech fails to replicate top form

CHELSEA stormed to a 3-0 win over Rennes in their Champions League group game on Wednesday.
Timo Werner scored two penalties before Tammy Abraham added a third on a comfortable night at Stamford Bridge.

But how did the players get on? SunSport’s Simon Phillips takes a look…
    EDOUARD MENDY – 7/10
Very much a spectator tonight for Chelsea, save for dealing with a few crosses.
The keeper, playing against his former club, was calm on the ball and good at organising his defence once again.

    REECE JAMES – 8
He just gets better game after game.
James was up and down the right-hand flank once again, delivering dangerous crosses in attack like the one setting up Tammy Abraham to score, while remaining solid at the back.
    KURT ZOUMA – 8
Another solid defensive performance from Zouma.
He didn’t have a lot to do, but he swept up anything dangerous that came his way.

    THIAGO SILVA – 9
The veteran defender, 36, was pinging passes around in his sleep and played some excellent long-range balls.
Silva brings so much calmness and security to the Chelsea backline it’s no wonder he started again.
A flawless performance from Silva and he got his deserved rest on 68 minutes. Man of the Match.
    BEN CHILWELL – 8
His energy is unreal, playing as a left winger one minute, then a left back the next.
Chilwell had another classy game for Chelsea tonight and he was great at bolstering the numbers in attack in the hour that he played.

    N’GOLO KANTE – 8
Kante played a more box-to-box role and enjoyed that freedom to roam.
He got in some good advanced positions and was a nuisance for Rennes.
Booked in the first half for kicking the ball away, which was rather silly and was wisely removed for Kovacic on 61 minutes.
    JORGINHO – 7
Jorginho did his job in midfield but was under no pressure at all after Rennes had a player sent-off.
He showed off his range of passing while helping control the play in the second half for Chelsea.
    MASON MOUNT – 7
Mount was being relied on as Chelsea’s creator in the middle tonight in the absence of Kai Havertz and he did show signs of threatening.
But it is Mount’s pressing, energy, and organisation of the press that makes him stand out for Lampard.

    HAKIM ZIYECH – 6
His touch was sublime, but he didn’t really find his passing and didn’t quite look as lively as he did at the weekend.
Had a good chance to score in the second half, but missed it.
    TAMMY ABRAHAM – 7
He was rather missing up top for Chelsea in the first half and failed to win much in the air.
He came alive a bit more in the second half and got on the end of a James cross to score Chelsea’s third goal. Subbed off shortly after.
    TIMO WERNER – 8
He did well to score two penalties – even winning the first one – and he looked very lively on the wing all night.
Rennes did well to double up on him but Werner was a real threat in attack for Chelsea.

    SUBS
Emerson for Chilwell (61 mins) – 7: Lively when he came on and did a job at the back.
Mateo Kovacic for Kante (61 mins) – 6: Bought some calmness to Chelsea in the centre.
Olivier Giroud for Abraham (61 mins) – 5: Should have scored in a one on one with the keeper but missed.
Antonio Rudiger for Silva (68 mins) – 6: Had a bit of defending to do, did his job OK.
    Callum Hudson-Odoi for Ziyech (74 mins) – N/A

Timo Werner scores TWO penalties for Chelsea in Champions League clash after replacing out-of-form Jorginho

TIMO WERNER scored TWO first-half penalties in Chelsea’s Champions League thrashing of Rennes after taking over spot-kick duties from Jorginho.
With both penalty experts on the pitch, it was the German striker who stepped up to fire the Blues into the lead at Stamford Bridge.

Jorginho has long been Chelsea’s designated spot-kick taker, netting his first eight penalties for the West Londoners.
However, the Italian midfielder has missed two penalties in less a month – against Liverpool and then Krasnodar.
Following his miss in Russia, Werner took – and scored – one later in the win over Krasnodar.

And after Frank Lampard revealed he would speak to Jorginho and Werner about penalty-taking duties, it seems Werner is the new king in town.
The former RB Leipzig striker confidently strode up and lashed the ball into the bottom left corner to give his side the lead.
He then thrashed another penalty into the top-left corner after Dalbert Henrique was controversially shown a second yellow card for handball.
The strikes were Werner’s ninth and tenth career Champions League goals – and first two at home – as Tammy Abraham sealed a 3-0 win in the second-half.

Having looked so in form from 12 yards, it seems unlikely Jorginho will be given the chance to get back on track any time soon.

Ahead of the win over Burnley last weekend, Lampard promised to have a chat with his spot-kick kings.
Lampard said: “I’ve got no problem with either in terms of the penalty taking and not just Timo and Jorginho.
“We have other possibilities at the club.
“So it will be something I will broach because it’s important as we’ve seen with history that we need it to be very clear going into the game who are the designated penalty-takers.
“But I have confidence in both of them. I’ll have a nice little open chat with both of them, and others, if needs be.”
Lampard added: “With Jorginho, if you’re going to take penalties as regularly as he does – and I did – you’re going to miss some.
“You might actually miss a couple because of the level of goalkeeper and the pressured situation.
“It was not normal that he had such a great record – it was unique and stood out.
“I’ve got no worries with his confidence and he shouldn’t have.
“I’m not concerned about that at all but I’ll speak to him about it myself.”

Frank Lampard will talk to his players before deciding whether Jorginho continues as Chelsea’s penalty taker More

How Chelsea could line up at Burnley with Hakim Ziyech, Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic all eyeing spot in attack

CHELSEA take on Burnley on Saturday afternoon full of confidence after their crushing win over Krasnodar in the Champions League.
The Blues stormed past the Russian side on Wednesday as four of their attacking stars all netted in the 4-0 drubbing.

How Chelsea could line up for their game against Burnley

Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic all got themselves on the score-sheet.
But Frank Lampard will find it difficult to start them all for the Premier League clash at Turf Moor.
Likely to field a 4-2-3-1, Edouard Mendy will retain his place in goal.
Reece James is set to start at right-back, with Ben Chilwell on the left.

Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma will likely continue their partnership in the heart of defence – keeping the likes of Fikayo Tomori and Andreas Christensen out of the XI.
In midfield N’Golo Kante and Jorginho will carry on in their deep, double-pivot, with Mateo Kovacic on the bench.
Kai Havertz is set to start in the No10 role, flanked by Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic, keeping Mason Mount out of the starting XI.
Timo Werner is expected start as the sole centre-forward, with Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud warming the bench.

Another way Lampard could set up his Chelsea team vs Burnley

However, for a bit of extra width, Lampard could play a 3-4-3, with Silva and Zouma joined by Cesar Azpilicueta in the heart of defence.
Chilwell and James would then push further up in the wing-back roles – with Kante and Jorginho still in the middle.
Hudson-Odoi will hope to get a look in on one of the flanks in this set-up.
Chelsea travel to Burnley on Saturday October 31 with kick-off at 3pm.
