Lampard’s failure over £123million flops Werner and Havertz costs him Chelsea job as Abramovich runs out of patience

FRANK Lampard did such a great job in his first year at Chelsea that his sudden sacking today has come as a shock.
A shock, yes, but perhaps not a surprise.

Frank Lampard has been sacked by Chelsea after a shocking 2020-21

Kai Havertz has failed to live up to his billing since moving to Chelsea
Because Chelsea have gone backwards in recent weeks, and Lampard’s lack of experience as a top-level coach has been horribly exposed.
There was a lot of love for him within the corridors of power at Stamford Bridge, not least from owner Roman Abramovich.
The Russian’s emotional statement shows just how difficult this decision was, compared to all the other managers he has ruthlessly axed.
He said: “I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.”

They all so desperately wanted it to work.
But recent performances, and muddled team selections, have cost him his job as much as the disappointing results.
And nothing has been more symbolic of Lampard’s failure than his handling of his two star signings – Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
The two Germans arrived in the summer, Werner for £53m and Havertz for £70m, with so much promise.

Timo Werner reacts as he misses a penalty against Luton in the FA Cup
But both are now shadows of the men who took the Bundesliga by storm.
And Abramovich is not a man likely to sit back and watch as his £123m investment slowly but surely withers before his eyes.
Werner’s confidence is shot to bits. His reaction to missing a penalty in Sunday’s FA Cup victory over Luton on Sunday was painful to watch.
The German striker started his Chelsea career impressively, but Lampard’s desire to play him on the left wing rather than more centrally has eroded Werner’s confidence, game by game.

And Lampard is still without any idea how to fit Havertz into his side.
The ‘generational talent’ of German football has been a lost soul in West London from day one.
Lampard’s first season in charge was marked out by the confidence he placed in this young charges like Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham, and the confident manner they repaid him.
But he has failed to back the two German stars Havertz and Werner.
And their sorry performances have paid that loss of faith back in spades.

Abramovich has spent over £110m on sacking managers since his 2003 arrival

Lampard has got several things wrong this season. Too many changes in personnel and formation.
Inconsistency in selection. Over-reliance on certain players, and a lack of confidence in others.
However his inability to find a way to incorporate Werner and Havertz, Chelsea’s marquee £123m signings from last summer, have sealed his fate.

How Chelsea could line up under Thomas Tuchel with Haaland and Upamecano as ex-PSG boss is lined up to replace Lampard

THOMAS TUCHEL is the favourite to take over at Chelsea after Frank Lampard was given the boot this morning.
The German boss, 47, led his former side to a 4-0 win over Strasbourg just before Christmas to put the club just one point off the top spot in Ligue 1.

But PSG chiefs still swung the axe, only confirming Tuchel’s departure FIVE DAYS later.
And the former Borussia Dortmund boss looks likely to make a quick return to management.
Frank Lampard was sacked by the Blues despite having won three of his last four games in charge.
The ex-Derby chief oversaw an alarming dip in the Premier League, however, with Chelsea currently sitting ninth.

And Roman Abramovich admitted in a club statement that his club’s ‘mid-table’ standing is what led to him making the decision to axe Lampard.
Should Tuchel take over in West London, he could bring some new faces along with him.
Erling Haaland is one player who could complete a shock move to Chelsea.

And last week The Athletic claimed that Chelsea are ‘determined’ to land Haaland in the summer.
Elsewhere, Tuchel will likely realise the need for some more creative talent in midfield, with Marco Verratti another player long linked with a PSG exit.
In defence, Thiago Silva – formerly of PSG – has formed a superb partnership at the heart of defence with Kurt Zouma.
But Chelsea will soon have to look to the long-term, with Dayot Upamecano a potential target after impressing in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig.

Next Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is fashion model, former barman, has business degree and refused Bayern Munich

THOMAS TUCHEL is a man of many monikers, but you would never have imagined the incoming Chelsea boss would fancy himself as Germany’s next top model.
The ex-PSG manager, who is expected to take over the Stamford Bridge hot seat to replace Frank Lampard who has been sacked, once posed for a fashion shoot in New York for Die Zeit’s men’s magazine.

Tuchel, 47, had a stint as a barman, when he was forced to retire from the game aged just 24 – that he admits helped him become a more confident person.
The German tactician is also one of a rare breed of football managers who hold a degree – he juggled his job at Radio Bar in Stuttgart alongside studying Business Administration at university.
The differing facades of Tuchel paint not just an interesting personality, but one that’s bound to light up the Premier League.
    HE’S IN FASHION
In 2017, few could believe what they were seeing – certainly not German football fans anyway.

Skinny Tuchel, who stands at 6ft 2in, was seen in trendy snaps for ZEITmagazin MANN pulling off his best David Gandy impression.
And in fairness to Tuchel, he looked the part wearing stylish clobber while gazing into the distance – and still managing to look his usual pensive self.
At the time, he was in between jobs after he was fired by Borussia Dortmund – just days after they won the German cup.
However, the stylish shoot was clearly the perfect audition for the PSG job he got in 2018, with Paris being the home of fashion.

Tuchel had come a long way from his beginnings as a football manager wannabe.

    EARLY RETIREMENT
In his early years, Tuchel rose through the ranks at Augsburg as a defender.
But at 19 he was released, and he moved to second division Stuttgarter Kickers, playing eight times for the club.
Then, with his career in football stalling, he joined third tier SSV Ulm – where he was forced to hang up his boots aged 24, after suffering a serious knee injury.
Instead of dwelling on his failed ambitions, Tuchel enrolled himself onto a Business Administration course.
He supplemented his income working at a trendy bar in the city called Radio Bar. There, he learned life skills – even if his cocktails weren’t up to scratch.
“I don’t want to have drunk the cocktails that I mixed at the beginning,” he laughed in his chat with ZEITmagazin MANN.
“I slowly developed a new self-confidence in the bar, shift by shift, evening after evening.
“I had overcome the inhibition threshold of asking strangers if they needed me. And suddenly I made the experience: ‘Your colleagues just like you for who you are, they have no idea that you were once a professional footballer'”

    BACK TO THE DREAM
Despite Tuchel’s best efforts of launching himself into academia and being a customer-pleaser in a bar, he still felt he had unfinished business with football.
He contacted then-Stuttgart boss Ralf Rangnick, who was most recently head of sport and development at Red Bull GmbH, for a trial with the club’s reserves – believing he was fit to play after nine months without kicking a ball.
However, chronic cartilage damage saw Tuchel unable to show his true potential.
Seeing a man with a football brain, Rangnick pushed Tuchel towards coaching – he shadowed coaches in the club academy until he took over the U14 team in 2000.
Tuchel now felt he had found his calling.

FROM BARMAN TO MAINZ HEAD COACH IN NINE YEARS
The steep trajectory that took Tuchel from barman to a Bundesliga head coach in just nine years is testament to his drive to succeed.
At Stuttgart, under mentor Hermann Badstuber, he eventually became assistant coach for the U19s – helping the side win the U19 Bundesliga title in 2005.
In 2006, he returned to Augsburg as head coach, where he completed his coaching badges and became reserve team manager.
Ambitious Tuchel was on the move again – this time to Mainz in 2008, who he led to the U19 Bundesliga title the following year with a team that included World Cup winner Andre Schurrle.
The German national team were desperate to appoint Tuchel as their U21 boss, but a better offer came along.
When Mainz boss Jorn Andersen was fired, Tuchel grabbed his first job as a Bundesliga head coach.

    SUCCESS STORY
With Mainz playing in their first season in the Bundesliga after promotion the previous year, Tuchel guided the club to a ninth-placed finish.
The following season, after an incredible seven-game winning run, that included a 2-1 away victory at Bayern Munich, they finished fifth to qualify for the Europa League for the first time in their history.
Tuchel was being talked about as a master tactician by the German press, with his attacking style lauded by football experts.
“There’s definitely a style that’s been attributed to me, that we brought to the table at Mainz: pace going forward and attack-minded football,” he told German newspaper die Zeit.
“I prefer certain qualities, an active playing style, bold defending and pacy play in attack.”
While Tuchel was also willing to think outside the box when it came to rallying his players and preparing them for games.
Once, instead of making his players watch video analysis after a crushing defeat, he motivated them with a powerful speech borrowed from Michael Jordan.

“I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed,” he echoed to his team.
Tuchel also hired Rene Maric, a young football fan who posted his musings on games on a blog, to scout opposition teams and players.
    WELCOME TO THE BIG LEAGUE
After a 12-month sabbatical, Tuchel was named Borussia Dortmund coach – following in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp.
Young stars like Christian Pulisic and Ousmane Dembele were nurtured, thriving under the new boss as the club finished runners-up in the Bundesliga in 2016 in his second season.
However, winning his first trophy as a manager in 2017 was soured just thre days later when he was sacked. A strained relationship with the club’s hierarchy, notably CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, was deemed to be the reason.
That didn’t deter PSG from making a move for Tuchel, who reportedly turned down Bayern Munich’s advances beforehand, in the summer of 2018 and he won Ligue 1 in his first season.
But again, tensions arose when he clashed with senior figures, including sporting director Leonardo.

Tuchel didn’t help his cause when he said he felt “[more like] a politician in sport” than a coach. Leonardo bit back that Tuchel “[must] respect the people above [him]” and said the comments were damaging for the club.
Despite recording a domestic treble in his final season in Paris, as well as being a Champions League runner-up, he was fired again.
One to speak his mind, it begs the question if Stamford Bridge is the right setting for Thomas Tuchel. Time will tell if Abramovich has made the right decision.

Frank Lampard SACKED by Chelsea after miserable 18-month spell with Thomas Tuchel lined up as replacement

FRANK LAMPARD has been SACKED by Chelsea.

Chelsea sit way down in ninth place at the midway point in the 2020-21 campaign, despite a £228.7million summer splurge.
And the shocking run has seen Lampard, 42, given the boot – with assistant manager Jody Morris also leaving the club.
Blues stars were ordered to NOT report for training on Monday morning.
They were instead told to arrive this afternoon, with Lampard and club bosses locked in talks.

On Lampard’s sacking, a club statement read: “Chelsea Football Club have today parted company with Head Coach Frank Lampard.
“This has been a very difficult decision, and not one that the owner and the Board have taken lightly.
“We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as Head Coach of the Club.

“However, recent results and performances have not met the Club’s expectations, leaving the Club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement.

“There can never be a good time to part ways with a club legend such as Frank.
“But after lengthy deliberation and consideration it was decided a change is needed now to give the Club time to improve performances and results this season.
“The Club will be making no further comment until such time as a new Head Coach is appointed.”
Owner Roman Abramovich added: “This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.
“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics.
“However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.
“On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future.
“He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished.
“He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”

Thomas Tuchel is set to take over from Lampard, according to Sky SportsCredit: PA:Press Association
Sky Sports claim Tuchel is set to be the man to take over from Lampard with a deal ‘almost done’.
The German is even set to be on the bench for Wednesday’s clash against Wolves with the ‘paperwork being sorted’.
Tuchel is fluent in English, loves the UK and will be fulfilling a lifelong dream of managing in the Premier League, according to Sky Sports’ Max Bielefeld.
The incoming boss is currently still in Germany, but will arrive in the next 48 hours subject to a coronavirus test, say reports.
Chelsea most-recently beat Championship side Luton 3-1 in the FA Cup less than 24 hours before the revelation.
Tammy Abraham scored a hat-trick to drag his side into the fifth-round of the competition.
But the club’s appalling Premier League form has seen the ex-Derby chief and Chelsea legend sacked.
The Blues lost their last league game 2-0 at Leicester on January 19.
Prior to that, Chelsea had edged a nervy win over West London rivals Fulham having been thumped by Manchester City before that.
In fact, the Stamford Bridge strugglers have lost FIVE of their last eight league games and now sit 11 points of league leaders Manchester United.

Lampard led his side to just eight wins in 19 matches in the Premier League this term.
The former midfielder – Chelsea’s all-time leading Premier League scorer with 147 goals – signed a three-year contract after replacing Maurizio Sarri in the summer of 2019.
But now, just 18 months into his time at the club, has become the latest in a long line of bosses to be sacked.
Roman Abramovich has already paid £110million in compensation for sacked bosses since taking over in 2003.
Lampard overachieved in his debut season, leading the Blues to a Champions League spot after finishing fourth in 2019-20.
Julian Nagelsmann and Tuchel have both been linked with the Chelsea job.
Tuchel, sacked by Paris Saint-Germain in December, has even admitted he would be keen on the Stamford Bridge job.

Ex-Juventus chief Massimiliano Allegri has also been linked with the Chelsea role.
But reports appear to point to Tuchel taking the reins.
Earlier this month, Lampard’s wife and Loose Women star Christine revealed she was pregnant with their second child.
The couple are already proud parents to daughter Patricia, two, while Lampard has two other children – Luna, 14, and Isla, 13 – with ex Elen Rivas.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea flop Danny Drinkwater has been forced to deny celebrating Lampard’s exit on Instagram.
The now-Kasimpasa star had shared a picture of himself celebrating at his old club, Leicester, only to later say he uploaded it as he was ‘missing playing’ and had nothing to do with Lampard.

Man Utd and Chelsea in blow with Moises Caicedo, 19, ‘set to fly to UK to seal Brighton transfer in £4.5m deal’

The 19-year-old box-to-box midfielder has also featured for Ecuador’s national side making four appearances.
Sky Sports reports that Caicedo is flying in to the UK to finalise a £4.5m move to the Seagulls.
According to his club’s general manager Santiago Morales, a work permit has already been arranged.
There is also a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the transfer.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that there has never been a ‘done deal’ with Manchester United, as some outlets had reported.
This is despite the teenager admitting he is a United supporter.
In a recent television interview Caicedo said: “Manchester United are my favourite club.
“I really like the game of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, I learn a lot from them every time I see them.

As well as United and Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton were in the hunt for the exciting talent.
And in-form West Ham were the latest Premier League side to register an interest.
But Hammers boss David Moyes has recently stated that due to the club’s financial situation, the club would only look to do a deal if the price is right.
Moyes said: “If we can and we think there is something available the owner would try and do it, but obviously like everybody else we’re in a difficult situation financially. We won’t be daft.”
But it appears Brighton boss Graham Potter have won the transfer race.

Mason Mount gives blood, sweat and tears for Chelsea while team-mates go missing and should be named next captain

CURRENT Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta is getting quite used to warming the bench thanks to Reece James’ meteoric rise into the first-team.
And it’s getting to a point now where the club might want to consider giving the armband to someone else… but who?

Mason Mount has got ‘next Chelsea captain’ written all over himCredit: AP:Associated Press

James is one of the names that comes to mind, along with Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva.
But for me, it’s got to be Mason Mount – with his performances in the last few matches only furthering my belief he is the only man for the job.
While the rest of the Chelsea players have folded, hidden and dropped heads under pressure, Mount has stood tall.
The England star, 22, has often been the only player putting every ounce of effort in for the cause, leaving absolutely everything out on that pitch – blood, sweat, tears, the lot.

⚽ Read our Chelsea live blog for the very latest news from the Bridge
Mount is a great player, and he is the one doing the dirty work, the jobs that you don’t often see.
But as he grows as a player and develops even more, he is starting to bring more goals and more creativity to his game.
The point of making someone club captain is to ensure they lead by example, which Mount does immensely.

If you watch him, he is everywhere on the pitch, fighting for every second ball, making every tackle, showing physical pain when we lose… a lot like us fans.
CASINO DEALS: BEST SIGN UP OFFERS TO CLAIM OVER £700

That is what you need from a club captain.
He’s been supporting the club since before he could walk, so his desire to win matches and the passion he has for this club is just like us as diehard supporters.
But Mount isn’t just going to be a passionate player. He organises the press, he directs other players where to be and he getting more and more vocal by the game.
This is what makes a great captain.
I don’t want to see my club captain aimlessly and aggressively shouting at players on the pitch.
I need to see them constructively talking to the rest of the players, organising them and giving them the motivation required – something a manager on the side lines can’t always do.

I am seeing all of this from Mount the more he plays. And this guy cares, oh man does he care.
Just watch his reaction to scoring a goal or the deflation he shows when we lose. This is all real, it can’t be acted.
I think to begin with he needs to be made vice-captain and work his way to the full-time job.
Mount will get better and better as a player in that time, too – and hopefully become Chelsea’s perfect captain.

One to speak his mind, it begs the question if Stamford Bridge is the right setting for Thomas Tuchel under the watchful gaze of Chelsea owner Abramovich.

Chelsea want German-speaking manager like Tuchel to get best out of Havertz and Werner if Lampard is sacked

CHELSEA are reportedly compiling a shortlist of German-speaking managers should Frank Lampard leave Stamford Bridge.

It was their fifth defeat in eight games and leaves them down in eight spot, nine points off table-toppers Leicester.
And while Chelsea aren’t believed to be looking to sack Lampard, they appear to have planned for a worst-case scenario.
According to The Athletic, the Blues hierarchy believe a German-speaking boss could be the future.

Former Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel, RB Leipzig chief Julien Nagelsmann and legendary German coach Ralf Rangnick could all come into consideration.
And the execs’ thinking could be surrounding the dismal form of German summer signings Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
Werner’s confidence looks shot and he has been dropped to the bench in recent games.
He joined from RB Leipzig for £47.5m and was one of the Bundesliga’s most-exciting forwards.

Havertz, signed for £70m from Bayer Leverkusen, started well but has seen his form similarly slide.

And he is usually spotted watching on from the dugout too.
The Athletic adds that Chelsea have seen the stunning success that Jurgen Klopp has had at Liverpool and want to adopt a similar structure.
That would mean ‘the coach’s job is merely to work with what he is given’ and they could ‘avoid power struggles behind the scenes’ as they are not ‘political animals’.
There is also a growing clamour to adopt the style of play and tactics developed from the Bundesliga.
Chelsea would be looking at ‘experienced options’ if they chose to replace Lampard.
The 42-year-old is now heavy favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

A dismal defeat at Leicester leaves the club legend under serious pressure, and just 8/11 to go.
Lampard will know all too well how notoriously ruthless Roman Abramovich is as an owner.
The Russian has shown no hesitation in swinging the axe to numerous managers during Lampard’s playing days.
And the bookies believe Lampard’s fate could be inevitable if he doesn’t turn around their form quickly.
