Roman Abramovich’s yachts, from Chelsea owner’s new £430m Solaris to one £25m boat he ‘gifted to Vladimir Putin’

ROMAN ABRAMOVICH certainly doesn’t do things in halves.
The Chelsea owner, worth a cool £10bn, is overseeing the development of his latest toy, Solaris – a superyacht that promises to be the most powerful yacht in the world.

The Russian, 54, must love travelling by sea – because he has had a private navy of yachts – with SunSport believing Solaris to be his EIGHTH over the years.
There’s even one £25million vessel he allegedly gifted to Vladimir Putin, after he was elected as Russia’s president in 2002.
    SOLARIS
The latest yacht is nearing completion and has cost £430million to build.
A 460ft beast of the sea, it features eight decks, as well as a helicopter pad.

The yacht is being built at the Lloyd Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany.
The shed it is being constructed in is larger than Buckingham Palace.
Solaris will have 48 cabins, accommodating up to 36 passengers, and a crew of 60.
It’ll boast two advanced engines to be the most powerful yacht in the world.

    ECLIPSE
Roman’s current superyacht, the Eclipse – with all the work that’s been done to it – is said to now be worth £1billion.
Built in 2010, it was completely rebuilt in 2015 to cater for the high-spec needs of a multi-billionaire.
Incredibly, the 553ft Eclipse has its own missile defence system – should it come under attack.
There are 24 guest cabins, two swimming pools, hot tubs, a sauna, and even a nightclub.
It also boasts a cinema, conference room, children’s playroom, hair salon, and a mini-submarine that can dive to 50m. Yes, that’s right. It’s a yacht that boasts its own submarine.

    LE GRAND BLEU
Worth £135million, Le Grand Bleu was the prize of an alleged bet between Roman and oil tycoon, Eugene Schvidler.
Eugene won and was handed the keys to this stunning 370ft vessel that has not one but TWO helipads.
Twenty guests can stay in luxury onboard, and enjoy it’s many amenities.
Astonishingly, as is the theme with these yachts, there are more boats on board.
As well as a 73-foot sailboat, guests can also enjoy taking a 68-foot powerboat for a spin. And there are two more boats in its internal garage on top of that.

    SUSSURRO
Currently available to buy for £16million, the Sussurro is now over 20 years old.
It was built by Feadship, measures over 163 feet long and boasts six luxury cabins that can house 12 guests.
Rarely used, it has been reported that the Sussorro was given to Roman’s ex-wife Irina Malandina, as part of a divorce settlement.
With 15,000 combined horsepower, it is capable of reaching speeds of 46 knots.

    ECSTASEA
Valued at around £110million, the Ecstasea is still one of the fastest superyachts around – boasting 43,000 horsepower and measuring 282-feet.
Abramovich was the original owner from 2004, before it was sold to Pakistani businessman Alshair Fiyaz in 2009.
There’s room for 14 guests, can be staffed by a crew of 25, and can be reached by helicopter, which can park on one of two helipads.
The Ecstasea suffered damage in 2019 when it clipped the Simpson Bay Bridge in the Caribbean island of St Maarten.

    PELORUS
So that’s what £270million gets you.
Built in 2003, the 377-foot long Pelorus was briefly owned by a Saudi Arabian businessman before Abramovich got his hands on it in 2004.
A year later, he lent it to Chelsea legends John Terry and Frank Lampard for two weeks as a bonus for helping the club win Roman’s first Premier League as owner.
Then in 2007 he allowed Terry and his wife Toni to enjoy their honeymoon on board.
However, it was also reportedly handed to Irina in the divorce settlement, who sold it to American film exec David Geffen in 2011.

    LUNA
Currently the second largest expedition yacht in the world, the Luna was delivered to Roman in 2010.
It boats 10 VIP cabins, that are 100 square metres each, as well as a 20-metre outdoor pool.
Like the Eclipse, it also has an anti-missile system, as well as bulletproof windows.
In 2014, it was sold to Azerbaijani billionaire Farkhad Akhmedov for £210 million.

    OLYMPIA
When you have a friend who is president of your country and reckoned to be the richest person on the planet, only a yacht will do as a present.
Which is what Roman allegedly gifted Russian president Vladimir Putin in 2002, when he was elected.
The Olympia, which has room for ten guests and is 187-feet long, is believed to be worth £25million.

The details of the transaction, which was said to have been made through an offshore company, emerged after a US Treasury official accused Putin of corruption, nepotism and embezzlement of state funds.
It was said that yacht’s maintenance and running costs were paid for from the state budget.
Abramovich’s lawyers said the claims were “unsubstantiated”, however, they did not deny that he had given him the Olympia.

Carragher says Chelsea boss Tuchel was wrong to haul Hudson-Odoi off for ‘attitude’ and has stats to prove it

THOMAS TUCHEL was wrong to haul Callum Hudson-Odoi off the pitch against Southampton because of his ‘attitude’, according to Jamie Carragher.
The Blues winger, 20, was humiliated during Saturday’s 1-1 draw after being subbed off just half an hour after being introduced from the bench.

Carragher believes Tuchel made a mistake in subbing off Hudson-Odoi on SaturdayCredit: AFP

After the game, Chelsea boss Tuchel slammed Hudson-Odoi’s attitude.
But – ahead of Brighton’s clash with Crystal Palace – Carragher insisted the German boss was wrong… and had the stats to prove it.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “A manager is paid to make decisions and get results.
“If [Tuchel] felt making that change gave them more chance of winning the game and helping Chelsea get in the Champions League then I have absolutely no problem with it.

“[Hudson-Odoi] lost the ball seven times in the game and had it 18, so that may have been a problem for the manager.
“But the two times he lost it poorly, he was sprinting after the ball.
“When the manager says he’s wasn’t happy with his counter-pressing… I can’t really see too much of a problem.”
Delving into the numbers, Carragher proved Hudson-Odoi was more than active, completing an impressive eight sprints in his 31-minute cameo.

Carra continued: “Timo Werner was the only player who made more sprints than Callum Hudson-Odoi in that period.
“My problem with the manager is not bringing him off and not what he said after the game.
“I think it was not right to bring him off.
“We don’t know exactly why he brought him off, but sometimes a manager sees one thing and wants to make a change.
“I think it was very harsh to bring him off.
“But it will send a message to Callum Hudson-Odoi and it will send a message to anyone who comes off the bench as a sub that they have to impact the game.
“And he never impacted the game enough.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea icon Joe Cole also believed Hudson-Odoi was treated unfairly at the weekend.
Cole called Tuchel’s decision ‘bold’, but claimed the young England winger could have been the man to break the deadlock.

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone could have been ideal for Champions League opponents Chelsea, he’s Premier League ready

WITH his black on black on black look, Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone looks like he has come to the touchline straight after doing a gig with The Stranglers.
But he also disproves the claim that there are no more heroes any more – in the eyes of Atletico supporters, at least.

Diego Simeone has been a revelation as Atletico Madrid for the decade with the LaLiga sideCredit: Reuters

Twenty five years ago he was the midfield lifeblood of an Atletico team that won the league and cup double.
Towards the end of the season there was a chance that Atletico could clinch the league title on a day when they had no game, as long as other results went their way.
Simeone was the only one who did not want results to go their way. He wanted to win the league on the field, in front of the club’s fans. Nothing else would do.
During his long international career with Argentina, Simeone was not the most popular room-mate. Others preferred to switch off from football.

He wanted to watch game after game, refining his knowledge, honing his skills for the coaching career to come. And he has enjoyed an extraordinary decade in charge of Atletico.
His side have consistently punched above their weight, week after week competing with Real Madrid and Barcelona as if there was no financial chasm between them.
His team have won the league – and despite a recent wobble, are well in the race to win it again this time. They have won the cup. They have claimed two Europa League titles.
All that is missing is the Champions League – and they have reached two finals. That dream still remains.

Simeone could have been ideal for a Premier League manager’s roleCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Now they stand between Chelsea and a place in the quarter finals of this year’s Champions League. Perhaps it is a pity that he is not coaching the other side.
The fact that Diego Simeone did not play in the Premier League is surely one of football’s missed opportunities. It would surely have worked.
Simeone was in the great box-to-box tradition of the British midfield. He was versatile, dynamic, skilful and fiercely, fiercely competitive.
He would have been the type of player loved by fans of his own club- and grudgingly respected by supporters of the other teams.
And he would certainly have enjoyed the atmosphere inside English stadiums – which, especially back in the mid 90s, would have reminded him a little of his native Argentina.
And after playing for a club and building a relationship with its fans and its history, he would later be inclined to return as a coach – just as he has done with Atletico Madrid.
It could have happened. He was still only 26 at the time that England hosted the European Championship – a key moment in spreading the word that the Premier League was on the rise as an interesting destination.

As a player, Simeone was a combative box-to-box midfielder who starred for clubs including Lazio, Inter Milan, and Atletico MadridCredit: EPA

Simeone’s passion on the touchline will be evident on Tuesday when Atletico Madird take on Chelsea in the Champions LeagueCredit: Reuters

Two years earlier at Tottenham his compatriot Ossie Ardiles had spent a lot of money on glamorous strikers. It might have been better had he used his contacts to make Tottenham a stop off point for Argentine midfielders – like Simeone.
In 1997 Chelsea brought across the Uruguayan midfielder Gus Poyet from Spain. He was a success – and Simeone was cut from a similar mould and was probably an even better player.
But it did not happen. And now, on Tuesday, in his black suit, shirt and tie, Diego Simeone will be Chelsea’s implacable opponent.

Chelsea verdict: Blues lacked imagination in attack and heads dropped quickly again apart from Kante and Mount

THERE is no doubt that since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, we have seen vast tactical improvements and they have looked a different team on occasions.
Tuchel is unbeaten since he arrived six games ago continuing today with a draw at Southampton.

N’Golo Kante tried to drag his side to victoryCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd

He has switched the formation and injected a new tactical approach that has made this Chelsea team look a lot more confident and emphatic, despite still lacking in the final third which has been a problem for the last few years.
But today’s draw with Southampton was a case of taking one leap forward, but about five big leaps backwards and they showed shades of the poorer assets that we have seen from the last two years under Frank Lampard.
They looked lacklustre and unimaginative in attack, and they were very slow on the ball and slow to react to the second balls.
We had grown used to seeing this a lot during Lampard’s reign, players dropping heads and dropping effort when things are not going their way.

And once again it unfortunately shone through at St Mary’s this afternoon.
It frustrates me when we are 1-0 down or 1-1 and I see players jogging around the pitch.
This is something that we have not really seen in the last six games after the introduction of Tuchel, but once again today it was evident to see it.
Only really Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante can say they gave it 100 per cent effort today, not many others can hold their heads high at all.

Thomas Tuchel was raging at times during the draw with SouthamptonCredit: Reuters

The lack of ability to do anything dangerous in the final third is very concerning and you could see the visible frustrations on Tuchel throughout the game.
He cut a very animated and angry figure all afternoon, and that alone says it all.
Chelsea could even have lost the game late on when Southampton put a bit more pressure on attacking.
But this was Chelsea’s game to win all day and they bossed possession, but did nothing at all with it, they even had to rely on a penalty to get the equaliser.
There was a lack of intensity, a lack of creativity, and a lack of anything that resembled a threatening final ball in the attacking third.
Tuchel will be more than concerned as he heads into a tough run of matches, even tougher than he has faced so far in his Chelsea reign.

Chelsea wonderkid Jude Soonsup-Bell, 17, scored four goals in a FA Youth Cup tie and is next academy star set to shine

GOALS haven’t been hard to come by for Chelsea’s impressive U18 team – averaging three a game in the Premier League.
And in November last year they hit a Barnsley side for eight in an FA Youth Cup win – with one boy star of the show.

A cheeky backheel goal was the pick of the bunch in Chelsea’s 8-1 winCredit: Getty Images – Getty

Jude Soonsup-Bell, 17, bagged four goals that day, including an outrageous backheel – scored after racing onto a through ball, cutting inside a Tykes centre half, drawing the goalkeeper and then applying the cheeky finish with his back to goal.
Even more impressive was the fact it was the first time a youngster had managed a four goal haul in an FA Youth Cup tie in 59 years.
And in the Premier League, Soonsup-Bell has been just as prolific netting 11 goals in nine appearances.
Any wonder in January, as soon as he turned 17 and a month after scoring the U23’s in a 6-1 rout of Manchester United, the teen sensation was handed his first pro contract.

    MADE IN SWINDON
Born and raised in Chippenham, Wiltshire – Soonsup-Bell was originally scouted by Swindon Town, who he joined aged nine.
But his development was so rapid that by the age of 12 he was trialling with Chelsea, Southampton and Reading – with Swindon understanding the talent needed to play at a greater level.
Chelsea’s youth coaches needed only a few training sessions to suss out Soonsup-Bell was a rough diamond they would polish for the future.
An undisclosed sum was paid to Swindon, with the boy still under contract, and it was to Cobham where he would continue his football education.

Soon, coaches there saw attributes that would have him better suited to playing as a centre forward, rather than central midfield, where he originally played. He has prospered upfront ever since.

His impressive form has seen him called up to Chelsea’s Premier League 2 team, where he plays for the U23 side tooCredit: Getty Images – Getty
    SETTING TARGETS
A striker is measured by how many goals he scored, and ambitious Soonsup-Bell buries strikes for fun.
Last season he scored 26 goals in just 17 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea’s various youth teams.
He uses previous youth striker’s records as his motivation – vowing to shatter them.
First team striker Tammy Abraham scored 72 goals from 2013-16 for the U18, U19, U21 and U23 teams – and that’s the yardstick Soonsup-Bell is measuring himself on.
And he’s reportedly confident he can beat that total.
    LION IN WAITING
With Asian heritiage, his mum Hannah is from Thailand and he lists his favourite dish as her green curry, Soonsup-Bell might not representing England at full level.

This year, as soon as he turned 17, Soonsup-Bell inked a pro contract with the Blues that’ll keep him at Stamford Bridge till 2023Credit: Instagram @judebell_

High-flying Soonsup-Bell is set for a big future in the gameCredit: Getty Images – Getty
But the Three Lions have already made sure he’s felt a part of their youth set-up and he has been capped at U15 and U16 level.
Spectacularly, he introduced himself on the international stage in a friendly against Spain – scoring a hat-trick in a 3-1 win.

That made him England’s second highest ever scorer at that level – alongside Jadon Sancho, who managed six goals in seven games.
Had the coronavirus pandemic not interrupted proceedings and cancelled a year of the footballing calendar at U16 level internationally, he could have beaten Louie Barry’s record of seven strikes.
You get the feeling, despite missing out on that record, he will surely break more in the future.

Chelsea icon John Terry building swimming pool and tennis court outside house as he shows property under construction

JOHN TERRY watched on as the garden at his £4.35million Surrey mansion was turned into a mud-bowl as diggers tore it apart.
But fortunately for the 40-year-old Chelsea legend it was all by design as workmen laid the groundwork for his brand-new swimming pool and tennis court.

Terry posted a series of videos to his Insta story, captioning them with tennis ball and swimming emojis.
In the impressive overhaul, the Aston Villa assistant manager panned the camera across his sprawling grounds to reveal where the tennis court and swimming pool would sit.
Throwing himself well into the site visit, Terry even threw on a high-vis jacket with the No26 on the back – the shirt he wore throughout his illustrious career.
However, the installation of the swimming pool and extensive new garage complex has not been without its drama.

Last summer, it was revealed John and wife Toni were eyeing up an outdoor party space complete with covered seating and a poolside bar, and to replace the current triple garage to house his flash cars.
The couple even wanted to add staff quarters to the seven-bedroom 18th century house he moved into in July 2019.
But disgruntled neighbours were quick to oppose the plans.
One even accused Terry of ‘inappropriate and excessive development particularly with the additional proposed outdoor seating area.’

The fuming neighbour added: “The nature of swimming pool activity with a covered outdoor seating with a bar means there are likely to be noise nuisance issues preventing residents from having peaceful enjoyment of their properties.
“The provision of a heating source also enables this space to be used year round which would provide the neighbours with no respite from noise nuisance throughout the year.
“Additionally, the size of this structure leads to further concerns of development creep.”
The neighbour added the couple have already ‘significantly altered and increased’ their house.
Terry wants to replace the current garage with a larger one to house his car collection, which includes a Ferrari 275 GTB and a £2m Enzo.
The garage will be 111 metres squared with 460 metres of volume.
He has also been spotted cycling recently, and the plans say it would also be home to bikes.
In February 2020, Terry was given the green light to replace his conservatory with a gym and a lounge.

David Alaba would become Premier League’s best-paid player if Chelsea pull off transfer as top 10 earners revealed

DAVID ALABA will become the best-paid player in the Premier League should he join Chelsea this summer.
The Austrian star, 28, has confirmed he will quit Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Alaba will become the highest-paid PL player if he joins Chelsea on a free this summer

David Alaba will quit Bayern in the summer, with Chelsea in line to make him the PL’s top earner on £400,000 per weekCredit: AFP or licensors

Alaba is out of contract at the Allianz Arena and has turned down a number of extension offers, believing the club to be undervaluing him.
It’s claimed the versatile defender is chasing wages of £400,000 a week – with Bayern unwilling to go that high.
Chelsea and Real Madrid appear to be locked in a straight shootout to sign Alaba.
And while £400,000 a week would be an astronomical pay-packet, signing him for absolutely nothing would take the edge off.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to add Alaba to his defence to play on the left of his back-three.
But, in order to bring him to England, Chelsea will have to pay him more than ANY other player in the Premier League.
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea currently leads the league in wages, raking in £375,000 per week.
The Spaniard signed a new deal with vastly improved terms in September 2019.

More-recently, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put pen to paper on a new deal last summer, pledging his commitment to Arsenal for £350,000 a week.
Gareth Bale currently sits third, with Tottenham paying half of his £650,000 Real Madrid wages for his season-long loan.
However, it seems unlikely Spurs will make the Welshman’s loan deal permanent in the summer, with he and Alaba unlikely to cross paths in England.
Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne (£320,000) and Raheem Sterling (£300,000) are both also earning £300,000 a week or more.
And Chelsea summer signing Kai Havertz (£310,000) is the only other star to rake in that much or more.
Havertz will no longer be the Blues’ top-earner should Alaba sign though.
However, Alaba won’t be the highest-paid player in Premier League history.
Alexis Sanchez infamously commanded £505,000 per week for his ill-fated stint at Manchester United following his move from Arsenal.
United were desperate to offload the flop and his wages – eventually managing to sell him permanently to Inter Milan last year.

Roman Abramovich has pumped £2BILLION into Chelsea transfers alone from £34m Drogba masterstroke to £72m Kepa flop

CHELSEA brought up an outrageous milestone in the 2020 summer transfer window – taking their transfer spending under Roman Abramovich to over £2BILLION.
The Russian billionaire bought the Blues in the summer of 2003 and quickly transformed their fortunes.

Didier Drogba turned out to be a bargain at just £34.7m in 2004Credit: PA:Press Association

Abramovich has never been shy in splashing the cash on big-name transfers.
After all, in his first season at Stamford Bridge, he oversaw 16 new signings, from mega-bucks Hernan Crespo, Damien Duff and Claude Makelele to freebies Craig Rocastle, Neil Sullivan and Marco Ambrosio.
In the 2003-04 season, Chelsea splashed out to the tune of £153m, according to Transfermarkt.
And it was a similar story a year later as the arrivals of Didier Drogba, Arjen Robben and Co saw the Blues spend £149.9m.

Those first two years really set the tone, with Chelsea’s gross transfer spend since the summer of 2003 now sitting at £2,002,000,000 – or £2m over £2bn.
Most-recently, the Blues shelled out £222.5m on the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell last summer.
And that, incredibly, pushed the club’s spending in the last 19 years to a smidge over the £2bn barrier.
Of course, Chelsea have recouped a huge chunk of that figure in player sales.

Selling big names such as Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata in recent years has seen them recoup over £200m – including add-ons – alone.
Down the years, Abramovich has helped bankroll some real hits.
The signing of Drogba for just £34.7m in 2004-05 proved to be a masterstroke as the Ivorian helped guide the club to an incredible period of success.
The 2012 arrival of Hazard and the signing of N’Golo Kante in 2016 are just two other iconic transfers, as well as bargain Ashley Cole from Arsenal for just £6.7m, and William Gallas, in 2006.
However, for every big hit, there’s been a major blunder.
Andriy Shevchenko and Fernando Torres are just two names that constantly pop up on ‘worst transfers ever’ lists.
The pair cost a over £92m combined and never came close to repaying their monster fees.

More recently, Kepa Arrizabalaga – the club’s record buy at £72m – has done little to prove he won’t be popping up on those ‘top ten’ lists in years to come.
The Spanish stopper made blunder after blunder and was eventually replaced by free signing Willy Caballero for a huge chunk of last season.
And he’s since been replaced full-time by £21.6m Edouard Mendy – who looks far more reliable at a little over a quarter of the price.
Nevertheless, since Abramovich has taken over, Chelsea have won their first FIVE Premier League titles – having previously only won the top-flight once in their history, way back in 1954-55.
The West Londoners have also earned their debut Champions League crown in 2011-12.
On top of those, the Blues have won two Europa League titles since 2003 to go with five FA Cup crowns and three League Cup gongs.
    So, £2bn well spent?
