However, now the handover of power is complete Webber can go early.
Leeds and Rangers are keen to sign the 39-year-old with the former looking for a swift return to the Premier League and the latter targeting the top spot in Scottish football.
This comes after the director sparked fury in May when he revealed he plans to train for climbing Mount Everest during the summer transfer window.
Webber confirmed his goal shortly after Norwich were relegated from the Premier League last season.

In fact he wanted to complete two climbs, Cotopaxi and Chimborazo, during the window, as well as Mount Blanc once the Championship season started in August.
Webber recently told The Times: “I said there’s only one thing which matters to me in this negotiation, it’s not about money, titles or kudos.
“The only thing I want is the chance to go and achieve a dream and my dream is climbing Mount Everest.
“Before that I’m going to need some pockets of time off. I’d never do a climb at a time when it’s business critical.

“Some people said: ‘You did Kilimanjaro in January’. Yes, I did, because we had zero funds to sign a player. What am I going to do? Sit in my office for 30 days?
“When I do Ecuador, it’s in June. When I do Mont Blanc it’s the September international break. When I do the Himalayas it’s during the World Cup.
“If 90 per cent of me isn’t enough, it’s fine because I’m already ready to walk out the door. I’m ready for the next stage of my life.”
However, those plans were ultimately aborted and Webber helped Norwich sign Christian Fassnacht, Borja Sainz, Vicente Reyes, Ashley Barnes, Shane Duffy, Jack Stacey, George Long, Adam Forshaw and Pedro Lima. More

DJ’s dad is ex-Wolves and Derby sharp-shooter Dean, while his cousin is former England and Liverpool No 9 Daniel.
Huddersfield are in desperate need of more firepower as they are one of the lowest scorers in the league.
The Terriers have only managed to find the back of the net 14 times, which is the fourth-worst record.
Centre-back Michal Helik is the club’s top scorer so far this season with four goals, while Jack Rudoni is second with three.

Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore was quickly appointed in his place.
DJ Sturridge left Villa in July after his contract expired.
He made 17 appearances for the club at various levels and netted two and assisted three goals.
If he was able to develop to become a similar player to his cousin Daniel, then Huddersfield would have a great player.
The former England international starred for the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Bolton and Manchester City during his playing career.
He finished his career with 77 goals and 29 assists in 218 Premier League appearances. More

GARETH AINSWORTH has been sacked as Queens Park Rangers manager. The R’s fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City earlier today.
Gareth Ainsworth has been sacked as QPR bossCredit: PA
Their latest loss leaves them 23rd in the Championship table with just eight points from 14 games.
QPR already find themselves six points from safety.
Ainsworth, 50, starred for Rangers as a player between 2003 and 2010 – twice acting as caretaker boss during this stint.
He joined as manager in February this year, leaving Wycombe to do so after 11 years in charge.

His assistant Richard Dobson has also been sacked.
Confirming the decision to axe Ainsworth, QPR CEO Lee Hoos said: “Making a call such as this is never easy, and it is even more difficult when you have such respect on both a personal and professional level for the individuals concerned – which we all do for Gareth and Richard.
“Many supporters have told me in recent months that they have never wanted someone to succeed more than Gareth, which is an indication of the fondness everyone associated with QPR has for him.
“Unfortunately, results this season haven’t gone the way we all wanted and we feel a change is necessary.

“Gareth has been a pleasure to work with from the moment he arrived and I am truly sorry this has not worked out as we all had hoped.
“On behalf of the board, I wholeheartedly thank Gareth for his commitment, desire, passion and professionalism. We all have the utmost respect for him, and he will always be welcome here.
“We understand the importance of appointing a new head coach quickly and an announcement on this will follow in the coming days.”
Ainsworth won just five of his 28 games in charge of QPR, drawing four and losing 19.
The R’s finished 20th last season, six points above the drop zone.
Stephy Mavididi gave Leicester a 30th minute lead during today’s clash at Loftus Road.
Andre Dozzell levelled in the 40th minute, only to go from hero to zero by getting sent off on the hour mark.
Leicester’s former Tottenham and England international Harry Winks then curled in a stunning winner ten minutes from time to consign QPR to defeat.
After the game but prior to his sacking, Ainsworth told the BBC: “A crazy, naive moment has cost us.
“We were comfortable against the league leaders. We had a plan and the plan was in place, but you cannot go against a team like this with 10 men – although we almost saw it out.

“I’m proud of that performance – it sounds crazy for a sixth defeat on the spin. But I look at the statistics, the closing down, the fight, the desire, the belief in the players.

Today they travelled to Southampton looking to grab Rooney’s first points at the helm.
They fell into a two-goal deficit in the opening 22 minutes courtesy of goals by Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Carlos Alcaraz.
At 2-0, Rooney was convinced his side should have had a penalty.
Krystian Bielik chipped a forward pass in the direction of forward Oliver Burke.

After the Scotland international headed the ball on, he was wiped out by Saints goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.
Referee David Webb waved away Birmingham’s appeals, much to the fury of Rooney.
Immediately after the incident Rooney could be seen venting his frustration towards the fourth official.
The 38-year-old threw on Jay Stansfield in the 57th minute, and the Fulham loanee finished smartly just a minute later to halve Blues’ arrears.

It would be temporary respite, however, with Adam Armstrong’s 86th minute effort sealing victory for Russell Martin’s Saints.
After the game, Rooney fumed to the BBC: “The [lack of a] penalty is an absolute disgrace.
“I have no other words to use on that because everyone in the stadium can see the keeper’s running out, he’s reckless, and if he comes out that quick he has to get the ball. Ollie [Burke] flicks it on, and he wipes him out.
“I spoke to the fourth official and he said the referee was clear there was minimum contact and he was unwilling to take advice from his linesman or the fourth official.
“That’s a big disappointment because sometimes referees do need help and I’d like to know how he was so clear that wasn’t a penalty.”
It’s such a bad, bad decisionMike Dean
Former Premier League referee Mike Dean agreed with Rooney’s assessment.
He said on Sky Sports: “It’s again, embarrassing to be fair. It’s just such a bad, bad decision.
“The Birmingham player has won the ball, the assistant’s got the best view… the keeper’s just smashed him in the back.”
Dean then added: “It’s not a hard decision. As much as I don’t like hammering and officials, it’s just such a poor decision.”
Rooney’s latest loss comes off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough and 2-0 home collapse against Hull.
The former Derby and DC United boss took over from Eustace with Blues sixth and having won two games on the bounce.
Three games later, the St Andrew’s side sit 14th in the table.
Next up, Birmingham host second-placed Ipswich Town.

My dad is a Premier League cult hero and joined Chelsea for a record fee – now I’m making my own way in the Championship

THIS footballer’s dad is a Premier League cult hero who once starred at Chelsea. But he’s now making his own way in the Championship after stepping out of his father’s shadow.

Darnell Furlong, 27, has been a key player for West Brom ever since joining them in 2019.
The ex-QPR youngster has played 161 times for the Baggies, including 35 times in the Premier League.
But early in his career, Furlong was simply seen as the son of former top flight star Paul Furlong.
The ex-striker, 55, was Chelsea’s record signing at £2.3million when he joined from Watford in 1994.

Furlong netted 18 goals in 85 games during a two-year spell before he was ousted by the arrivals of Ruud Gullit, Mark Hughes and Gianluca Vialli.
Furlong went on to enjoy a six-year spell with Birmingham before spending a further five years at QPR.
He ended his career in 2012 with St Albans City, and is currently back at QPR with their academy.
However, his son Darnell is now the star of the show at West Brom.

He’s helped the Midlands side to fifth in the Championship.
And speaking to Sky Sports, Furlong revealed he was proud to be following in his dad’s footsteps.
He said: “People used to ask me what it was like having a dad who played football. ‘Does he do this? Does he do that?’ But I didn’t know any different.
“It was just a case of Dad going to work, me going to school, and then coming home. It was definitely a massive privilege – I don’t take it for granted – but it was something that was normal to me.
“I had a passion for it from a very young age, but I grew up knowing that it was entirely up to me what I wanted to do.
“My dad used to say to me that if I didn’t want to play football, it wasn’t for everyone. He was very, very hands-off and I think that helped me.
“He was relaxed about it all and there wasn’t any pressure for me to do well for him or anything. It was all about myself and what I wanted to do.
“He helps me out with little things and talks to me about my games when he manages to watch them.
“But it’s never a case of putting me under too much scrutiny or doing analysis. It’s more of a general chat over the dinner table, which is a nice way of having things.” More

Sunderland star Jack Clarke was rushed to hospital after collapsing in dugout… now he’s dreaming of Premier League

JACK CLARKE has come a long way since collapsing and being rushed to hospital following a seizure when he was 18.The Sunderland winger had made his fourth Championship start for Leeds at Middlesbrough in February 2019 but, after being substituted at half-time, lost consciousness on the sidelines.

Paramedics and club medical staff tended to him before he was taken to hospital where he later came round.
It thankfully proved to be a freak incident and fast forward four years Clarke, now 22, is one of the hottest talents outside the Premier League, already netting eight goals this season.
His form won him the Sky Bet Championship player of the month for September.
Reflecting on that scary day at the Riverside, Clarke said: “Everything was normal leading into the game.

“I didn’t think anything like that was going to happen, neither did any of the staff or medical team, because they wouldn’t have put me at risk.
“I played the first half then came off at half-time because we were losing.
“As I was coming back out for the second half, the incident happened.“I don’t remember too much after that until a couple of hours later that evening when I woke up in hospital.
“I was told I had suffered a seizure due to a combination of things.

“You never know what’s going on inside  because I felt fine and there was nothing unusual happening on game-day.
“I’ve since been thoroughly checked and it’s gone down as a one-off.
“Touch wood, something like that hasn’t happened again to me or  anybody else.”
Clarke was back in action just a month later.
He went on to make a further eight sub appearances in a season that saw Leeds lose in the play-off semi-finals  to Derby before making an  £8.5million switch to Tottenham.
The winger never got a serious look-in during his three years at Spurs — making only four sub outings in cup competitions.
He was loaned out initially to Leeds then QPR, Stoke and Sunderland before making his Black Cats move permanent in July 2022.
Yet despite being fortunate to work under legendary bosses Marcelo Bielsa and Jose Mourinho, Clarke admits playing for current Sunderland chief Tony Mowbray has been the most enjoyable time of his career.
And the Black Cats are reaping the rewards of that relationship with the young ace on fire as they chase a play-off spot for a second successive year.
Clarke and Co succumbed 1-0 to leaders Leicester on TuesdayCredit: Getty
Although the Wearsiders suffered their third straight Championship defeat on Tuesday, going down 1-0 at Leicester, they produced an excellent performance against the runaway leaders that deserved a point.
Mowbray took over last August from Alex Neil, who walked out six games into the season to join Stoke.
But Clarke says his arrival proved a release.
He said: “A lot of the other boys will echo me but I’ve loved working with him.
“Ever since the gaffer came in, he’s been a breath of fresh air for us attackers especially and the young lads.
“We’ve been given freedom to play and express ourselves and, when things don’t work, he wants us to try it again.
“As long as we’re working hard and trying to do the right thing, he’s a top man to work under.
“I can’t thank him enough for what he’s done for me during the past year.
“You can never pick who you’re going to work for but, thankfully, I’ve had some brilliant managers at the start of my career that have helped me in terms of what I’ve learned and the player I’ve so far become.
“It’s hard to compare different managers but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working under them all for different reasons. But playing under Tony is the most enjoyment I’ve had in my career and that’s due to him and the environment he’s created here.
“When I was working under Bielsa and Mourinho, I was younger and naive. I just wanted to learn.
“Playing was obviously what I wanted but the situation I was in and the age I was at, I couldn’t be expecting to play every week or, when I wasn’t playing, knocking on the door and asking, ‘why am I not playing?’
“It was more about being there, learning, being the best version of myself and, if I got the chance to  contribute, just trying to contribute what I could.”
It was a surprise Sunderland reached the play-offs last season following promotion from League One.
But their chances of emulating that again are not helped by the summer departures of star attackers Ross Stewart to Southampton and Amad Diallo, who returned to Manchester United after a successful loan stint.
Added to that, defenders Danny Batth and Lynden Gooch left for Norwich — who Sunderland host today — and Stoke respectively.
But midfielder Jobe Bellingham has proved to be a good buy from Birmingham while the emergence of youngsters such as Abdoullah Ba and Adil Aouchiche  has been crucial.
Clarke said: “It’s hard to replace the players we lost last year like Amad, who scored 14 goals, and Ross Stewart who got 11 in just 12 games.
“Even when we brought Joe Gelhardt in on loan from Leeds at the back of last season, he played a big role, so it’s hard to replace these types of players, but the club’s done well in its recruitment.
“The likes of Jobe, Abdoullah and Adil might not be the  finished article yet and we’re not expecting them to be.
“But they all offer us something different and there’s a reason why players get signed here for different things. I think the club’s got that balance right.
    Read More on The Sun
“We’d like to replicate what we did last season, if not go all the way.“That’s our ambition — we’re not saying it’s going to happen but we know how good we are as a team, how good we can be on our day and feel we can beat anybody.
“So we’re not going to limit ourselves to what we can do this season.” More

Wayne Rooney knew how a player was feeling by how he ate breakfast.. he’s so intelligent, reveals ex-Premier League star

After keeping the Rams up in his first season, a huge points deduction proved too much to overcome as they suffered relegation to League One in 2022.
That November Rosenoir was appointed manager of Hull City after an interim spell as replacement for Rooney, who departed Derby to become head coach of MLS outfit DC United.
But the ex-England striker, 38, returned to the Championship with Birmingham City three weeks ago, despite two underwhelming campaigns in the US, after John Eustace’s controversial departure.
Eustace, 43, was sacked despite back-to-back wins, which had seen Birmingham climb to sixth, but Rooney has since overseen two losses out of two, with Blues falling to 12th.

The second of those setbacks came at St Andrew’s on Wednesday against his old assistant’s Hull.
A Birmingham fan told Rooney to “f*** off back to America” as Brum’s players were booed off at full time.
But ahead of their upcoming trip to Southampton tomorrow, Rosenior is backing his friend to succeed despite his tricky start in his new job.
And he revealed some of the amazing reasons why he feels Rooney will make a great manager.

Rosenoir told The Times: “Wayne’s one of the most emotionally intelligent people I’ve ever met.
“We were sat in the canteen at Derby and he always used to eat his lunch or breakfast sitting watching the players.
“There was a certain player who was eating breakfast and Wayne looks across and said, ‘He’s not eating his breakfast the same as he normally does, he’s having a different breakfast and he’s eating a different way, I need to speak to him.’
“Wayne pulled him aside, speaks to him and something really bad happened in his family the day before.”
Rosenior added: “People don’t give Wayne the credit that he deserves for his intelligence.
“He’s so street-smart, he understands people straight away.
“Wayne saw that I was outstanding at what I did in certain areas of football and he allowed me to do that, and that is top management.
“We created a trust that still goes on to this day. He knows if he ever needed anything from me I’d be there for him and I know the same the other way around. He will prove himself as a manager over time.” More

A 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough was followed by a 2-0 loss to Hull City, with a section of fans booing Rooney and the team as they trudged down the St Andrews tunnel.
According to ESPN’s Mark Ogden, one fan told Rooney to “f*** off back to America” as he headed for the exit.
Eustace, 43, was sacked despite back-to-back wins, which had seen Birmingham climb to sixth in the Championship table.
That’s led to particular anger from the St Andrews fans at Rooney’s poor start.

While Rooney accepted that fans are unhappy, he pleaded for time as he aims to get his philosophy across to the Birmingham players.
Rooney told Sky Sports: “Be patient. I get it, I understand.
“They parted ways with a very popular manager who did a good job in stabilising the club, so I understand a bit of frustration, of course I do.

“That’s our aim, that’s our ambition and that’s what we’re hoping to achieve.
“My first line to the players is that we’re going to try and play in a different way, which might be a bit uncomfortable for some of you.
“If you’re not comfortable with it, please tell me.
“What you don’t want to do… Of course you want to change how we want to play, I’m very open and clear on what I’m saying on that.
“What I don’t want to do is put someone completely out of their comfort zone, which I probably think the last two games, in terms of building out from the back, we have been. So that’s something for me to adjust.
“Then obviously throughout January, throughout the summer you start building your squad for what you want.
“But that’s not saying that the players now don’t have an opportunity to show me what they can do and that they’re on board with that. The players have been great from that point of view.’
Rooney explained that the Birmingham City job is a chance for him to prove himself as a manager that plays attractive football.
He continued: “We need to get better on game management, on decision-making, that needs to improve a lot.
“For me now this is an opportunity for me to prove myself as a coach here at Birmingham, to get Birmingham out of the Championship.”
