Watch Clinton Morrison disappear off-screen as his mic falls off in the madness of Barnsley’s vital survival goal

AN EXHILARATING final night of the Championship season was embodied by Clinton Morrison as he fell off-screen while reporting on Barnsley’s huge late goal.
The Yorkshire side were one of many involved in some very late drama on Wednesday evening.

    3

Clinton Morrison had to dive off-screen to catch his mic

    3

The ex-Crystal Palace man reappeared to confirm Barnsley’s shock escape
Needing a win over promotion-chasing Brentford to have a chance of leapfrogging Wigan in the final survival spot, pending the Latics’ administration points deduction appeal, they duly delivered.
Clarke Oduor popped up at the far-post in the 91st minute to secure a mega three points for Barnsley.
And as they mobbed the goalscorer in an empty Griffin Park, former striker Morrison was following the game for Sky Sports’ Soccer Special.
Host Jeff Stelling gave a trademark cry at the sight of a major goal and threw to Morrison to explain.

Seeming to embody the mayhem, the 41-year-old’s microphone had fallen out and he dived out of shot before confirming the goal.
Morrison called out: “Yeah the thing’s come out Jeff!”
“It’s come out… but yeah Barnsley have scored, Jeff!”
Morrison’s hilarious gaffe was the latest of a Soccer Special’s unique way of reporting on the action with comical errors something of a tradition.

But while Barnsley fans were jumping around their living rooms, Brentford supporters were left ruing a missed opportunity.
A winner of their own would have guaranteed automatic promotion to the Premier League on a night when all three contenders, including Fulham and West Brom, dropped points.
By contrast, Barnsley and Luton both won to avoid the drop with Wigan relegated after a draw with Fulham, ahead of the confirmation of their punishment for administration.
Topping the madness off, Swansea reached the play-offs by beating Reading 4-1, achieving a six-goal swing to nudge past Nottingham Forest after they lost to Stoke by the same scoreline.

Birmingham City retire Jude Bellingham’s No22 shirt despite him playing just 44 games and quitting for Borussia Dortmund

BIRMINGHAM CITY have decided to retire Jude Bellingham’s No22 shirt – even though he only played 44 games for the club.
The midfielder became the world’s most expensive 17-year-old when Borussia Dortmund signed him for £30million on Monday.

Bellingham has progressed through the ranks at Birmingham after joining the club at seven years old.
He became the club’s youngest ever first-team player at the age of 16 years an 38 days last August.
In total, he scored two goals and four assists in 44 appearances for his boyhood club.
And Birmingham have decided to honour his achievements by retiring his shirt number.

A statement on the club website read: “In such a short space of time Jude has become an iconic figure at Blues, showing what can be achieved through talent, hard work and dedication.
“His caring, humble and engaging off-the-field demeanour has also made him such an impressive role model.
“The 22 shirt has become synonymous with Jude, his rise to the first team aged 16 ears and 38 days and these qualities.
“And as such the Club have decided it would be fitting to retire this number, to remember one of our own and inspire others.”

But not every fan agreed that Bellingham had done enough for the club to warrant his number being retired.
One Twitter user asked: “How utterly bonkers is this?”
Another added: “Absolutely stupid decision. The reason given to retire the number was the most stupid thing ever.”
And one joked: “Why don’t we just go all out and build a statue too?”

Bellingham will wear Dortmund’s No22 shirt next season after he snubbed interest from Manchester United to join them.
The 17-year-old played for Birmingham for the final time in Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat to Derby.
But the talented youngster was targeted by a sick abuse during his last appearance for the club.

Chris Hughton ‘agrees to become Bristol City boss’ despite Robbie Fowler interest following Steven Gerrard rejection

CHRIS HUGHTON has reportedly agreed to become Bristol City’s new manager.
TalkSPORT claims the ex-Brighton and Newcastle gaffer Hughton met with City chiefs after emerging as their top choice for the role.

And Hughton agreed to take charge from the start of next season.
It’s been nearly three weeks since Lee Johnson was axed after missing out on the play-offs.
And a host of big names had been linked with the job.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was believed to be Bristol’s first choice.

But he snubbed the chance of managing in the Championship.
Chelsea legend and Aston Villa assistant John Terry was also rumoured to be in the running.

And SunSport exclusively revealed Mick McCarthy had put his name forward too.
But Hughton is the man to take charge at Bristol City this summer as they look to reach English football’s top flight.

It’s bad news for Robbie Fowler after he confirmed applying for both the City job AND the vacancy at Birmingham.
The ex-Brisbane Roar boss told Dubai Eye 103.8: “The CV has gone in but I’m not sure what route these clubs are going.

“Conversations can be had but, as of now, I’ve had nothing. It’s just a case of wait and see.
“I’m on the lookout for something else. All the good work I’ve done, I want to continue that so fingers crossed a position will open up pretty soon and I can get back out on this pitch.
“I believe I bring out the best in any team that I’m at.”

Nottingham Forest fan who was ‘not fretting’ about SIX goal swing mercilessly mocked after incredible play-off drama

A Nottingham Forest fan was mercilessly mocked after her pre-match prediction epically backfired.
Forest’s season imploded after a 4-1 defeat to Stoke City cost them a place in the Championship play-offs.

    2

Are people really worried that we will blow a six-goal difference in one match? Even I’m not fretting. And that’s a good sign. Believe me. #nffc
    — Hannah Forest 🔴⚪️⚽️ (@hannahforest) July 22, 2020

Ahead of the final round of fixtures, Sabri Lamouchi’s side needed at least a draw against the Potters to guarantee a top-six finish.
Yet Forest extended their winless run to six games with a humiliating 4-1 humbling at home to Michael O’Neill’s men.
The club’s misery was compounded by Swansea’s win by the same scoreline against 10-man Reading which saw the Welsh club usurp them on goal difference.
And for one fan, the embarrassment was all too much after her pre-match prediction came back to haunt her.

Before kick-off, Forest fan Hannah tweeted: “Are people really worried that we will blow a six-goal difference in one match?
“Even I’m not fretting. And that’s a good sign. Believe me.”
She later added: “I give you permission to laugh at us if it does happen…”
Unfortunately for Hannah, it did happen as Swansea actually needed a five-goal swing for a play-off place only for six to ultimately fly in as per her prediction.

One fan replied: “Hannah , I would file this under “Tweets that precede unfortunate events”, enjoy the championship again!”
Another said: “The perils of twitter. I congratulate you for not deleting this tweet.”
A third added: “I’m pretty sure most derby fans are gonna have this framed on their wall Hannah.”
Forest’s dramatic capitulation followed a wretched end to their season, which saw the Reds collect just three points from a possible 18 since the start of July.
Speculation has already started over Lamouchi’s future in the dugout after he attempted to shed some light on his side’s collapse.
He told BBC Radio Nottingham: “It’s difficult to react. I’m here just because it’s obligatory to be here. I don’t have words. Disaster.

“It is a disaster to lose everything in the last game at home, of course.
“But to believe all the season about the play-offs and to lose and put away the play-offs like that, it’s just our fault. I don’t have more words. I’m so sorry. I’m sorry to the fans, sorry for the last few games.
“One point was enough tonight, it was enough a few days ago and was enough last week and we were so close, but it was a disaster.”

Leeds claim open-top bus celebrations were to help fans stay AWAY from Elland Road after ploy totally backfires

LEEDS bizarrely claim their open top bus celebration last night was supposed to keep fans AWAY from Elland Road.
Instead thousands of supporters flocked to the stadium to celebrate their side’s Championship title as Marcelo Bielsa and his players partied outside the ground.

    3

Thousands of fans flocked to the stadium to see their heroes
Club officials had previously urged fans to stay away because of coronavirus concerns ahead of their 4-0 thrashing of Charlton yesterday.
Chief executive Angus Kinnear had said: “We must consider the health of people in our community before we celebrate.”
But before kick-off, pictures emerged online showing the open top bus parked behind the centenary pavillion.
It was used at the end of the game as the playing squad and management staff climbed aboard with some addressing the masses through the PA system.

Four people were arrested at Elland Road as missiles were thrown and one police officer got a minor injury.
Liverpool also lifted the Premier League trophy last night but did not celebrate outside Anfield – instead promising supporters a party at a later date.
And after widespread condemnation, Leeds have tried to explain away the decision which clearly backfired.
A club spokesman told Leeds Live: “Following consultation with the Supporter Advisory Group and [Leeds City] Council, Leeds United arranged for a bus to be parked outside the East Stand reception as a contingency to assist dispersal should a crowd congregate at Elland Road despite a month-long campaign from the club and supporter groups to encourage supporters to stay at home.

“The safety group believed was that a brief appearance from the players with the Championship trophy, would help to signal an end to proceedings, encouraging fans to head home safely.”
Jubilant fans were on the streets for hours celebrating their Premier League return after 16 years.
And Leeds Wags celebrated the promotion with a rooftop party.

Leeds target Eberechi Eze transfer following promotion after QPR youngster starred in Championship

CHAMPIONSHIP winners Leeds want QPR playmaker Eberechi Eze to lead their return to the Premier League.
Marcelo Bielsa has identified the exciting England Under-21 international as the creative spark his team will need next season.

    2

Leeds want QPR playmaker Eberechi Eze to lead their return to the Premier League
And he is ready to outbid Spurs, West Ham and Crystal Palace for the 22-year-old Londoner who has been earning rave reviews this season.
Sunsport understands that Leeds first declared their interest in Eze in January and told QPR that they would come in with a firm bid if they were promoted.
Now they are preparing to fulfil that promise when the transfer window officially opens next Monday.
Eze, who has scored 13 goals and provided eight assists this season, is valued at £20million by QPR.

The West London club feared that price would drop as a result of the pandemic which has restricted the spending ability of every club.
But with so much competition for the attacking midfielder QPR are still hoping to get close to the full asking price for their star player.

    2

Marcelo Bielsa has identified Eze as the creative spark his team will need next seasonCredit: Alamy Live News
West Ham boss David Moyes was at Loftus Road last Saturday to see Eze’s Man of the Match performance in QPR’s 4-3 win against Millwall.
And after paying £22m to sign Jarrod Bowen from Hull in January, Moyes has no concerns about paying big money for a player with no Premier League experience.

But master tactician Bielsa has made it clear to Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani that Eze is exactly the kind of prospect his team should be looking to sign.
Radrizzani this week has been speaking about the possibility of bringing veteran superstars Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani to Elland Road as free agents.

But the £200,000-a-week wage demands of both players would be way beyond Leeds’ reach and Eze would be a much more realistic long-term investment.
QPR boss Mark Warburton is resigned to losing Eze this summer as his club struggle to make ends meet as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
He has already agreed a £4.75m fee with Bruge for winger Bright Osayi-Samuel but has been allowed to spend £2.1m of that money to sign striker Kieffer Moore from hard-up Wigan.

West Brom seal Premier League promotion as Brentford and Fulham suffer final day agony as Barnsley survive at the death

WEST BROM clinched promotion to the Premier League as Brentford and Fulham suffered a final day heartbreak.
Callum Robinson grabbed the all-important goal as Barnsley clinched survival with a last-ditch win against the Bees.

The tense shoot-out for a place in the top-flight produced plenty of twists and turns on a dramatic climax to the Championship.
Fulham, who needed both Brentford and West Brom to lose, were the first to show their nerves as they fell behind to Kieffer Moore’s header on 32 minutes.
The advantage then went to the Bees as QPR took a shock lead at the Hawthorns against the Baggies, who knew prior a win would guarantee top-flight football next season.
It was Ryan Manning that set the cat amongst the pigeons to put the Rs up and Brentford into second – but that would change within a matter of seconds.

Callum Styles deservedly put relegation-battling Barnsley ahead at Griffin Park and within moments West Brom were level through Grady Diangana to go back second.
That put them back second with just 45 minutes to go on the campaign.

Clarke Oduor is mobbed by his team-mates after firing Barnsley to survival
Fulham got themselves back into the running courtesy of a Neeskens Kebano but the wind was quickly taken out of their sails as news filtered through that Callum Robinson had put West Brom into a 2-1 lead.
That Kebano stunner was also a bitter blow to Wigan as it placed them into the relegation zone, albeit only if that 12-point deduction still stands after their appeal.

Barnsley, who were still hanging on at Brentford, looked like their efforts were going to be in vain as they remained a point adrift of safety as Luton led Blackburn 3-1 in their fight to avoid the drop.

But the Bees were given another chance as Eberechi Eze set-up a tense finish at West Brom by putting QPR level at 2-2.
Meanwhile, at the bottom, Charlton Athletic were on their way down as they went four down away to champions Leeds United.
And Hull were cementing their place at the foot of the table as they trailed by two at Cardiff, who eventually won 3-0, to seal their play-off spot.
Back at the top, the tension increased as Josh Da Silva struck an equaliser for Brentford, who knew a winner would take them up if the scores remained the same.
But it was Clarke Oduor who would have the final say as he struck an injury-time winner for Barnsley to end Brentford’s dream and keep his side in the Champonship.
Fulham’s 1-1 draw at Wigan condemned the Latics to the drop – unless they win their points deduction appeal.
Those results also condemned Hull, beaten 3-0 at Cardiff, and Charlton to League One.
Meanwhile, Swansea crept into the play-offs in the final seconds of the season as Wayne Routledge’s added time goal for his brace sealed a 4-1 win at Reading.
That meant they overtook Nottingham Forest, who were thrashed by the same score at home by Stoke, who slipped into secenth.
That leaves Brentford, Fulham, Cardiff and Steve Cooper’s men to battle it out for the final promotion place.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic admits new AC Milan deal is unlikely as promoted Leeds target veteran superstar

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC has fuelled speculation he could join Leeds United by admitting he looks unlikely to stay at AC MIlan.
Multi-millionaire Andrea Radrizzani, who owns the Championship top dogs, has revealed he had transfer talks with the 38-year-old earlier this year.

The Swede, who spent 18 months with the Elland Road side’s bitter rivals Manchester United from 2016, instead opted to head back to the San Siro.
His deal expires at the end of the month, and after Leeds sealed a Premier League return, supporters are dreaming of them making another move for the striker.
And speaking to Sky Sports Italy, Ibrahimovic says he is not anticipating a new contract offer from Milan.
He said: “I still have three games, still 10 days, nobody said anything to me and I don’t expect anything else.

“There are things that we cannot control, but that seems strange to me, but we are doing great things.
“We play with great confidence and we believe in what we do.
“I’m working, I’m fine, the team is fine and doing good things.

“When I arrived we are second or third in the standings, it means it is not bad.”
The highly-experienced frontman has scored five times 14 appearances at Milan since his January arrival.

Despite five goals in 14 Serie A appearances, Ibrahimovic is yet to be offered an extension on the six-month deal he signed.
While making his revelation, Radrizzani also questioned whether Ibra could handle the physical toll of English football now at his age.
But he did manage 17 in 33 Premier League appearances during his time at Old Trafford.
