Pizza Hut troll Leeds with iconic Come Dine With Me put down as they continue bizarre feud after promotion

PIZZA HUT have hit back at Leeds with a reference to an iconic Come Dine With Me moment – in what is perhaps the most bizarre Twitter feud of the summer.
The online aggro between the restaurant and newly-promoted football club dates all the back to last January, when the pizza chain make a cheeky jibe about Marcelo Biesla’s Spygate.

    1

Leeds reignited their curious social media feud with Pizza Hut with a picture of their title celebrations

Dear lord, what a sad little life, Leeds. You ruined our tweet completely so you could have the promotion and I hope now you can spend it on lessons in grace and decorum. So Bielsa. Take your binoculars and get off our property. https://t.co/hlGj2WLrwf
    — Pizza Hut Restaurants (@pizzahutuk) July 24, 2020

Pizza Hut’s account tweeted: “Hi @LUFC, we’ve just seen a suspicious looking man peering through our chef’s window. Can you let us know if you’re planning to put Pizza on the menu in the club canteen?”
Leeds’ riposte at the time read: “Prefer @dominos thanks! They don’t take a week to deliver a tweet.”
And Pizza Hut wrote: “Bit rich coming from a club that hasn’t delivered since 1992…”
The dust then settled down and all seemed to be fair in the love and war of corporate Twitter banter.

    However, the Whites hadn’t forgotten.
Fast forward to July 2020 and the club had indeed delivered, their prize being the Championship trophy and a long-awaited return to the Premier League.

Naturally, there were scores to be settled and the club posted a picture of their celebrations to the restaurant’s account, quote tweeting the 17-month old dig.
And so Pizza Hut came back with the social media favourite Come Dine With me quote, once again referencing Spygate.

They posted: “Dear lord, what a sad little life, Leeds. You ruined our tweet completely so you could have the promotion and I hope now you can spend it on lessons in grace and decorum. So Bielsa. Take your binoculars and get off our property.”
For those not fully clued up on the joke, it harked back to one of daytime tele’s greatest strops when the night’s host, Peter, lost the cookery show’s £1,000 prize to rival Jane in 2016.

Pizza Hut then added: “Have to say… Incredible season from a great club. Welcome back to the big one.”
However the damage was done and competitors began gleefully scooping up the discontented Elland Road faithful.
Twitter user Jilly wrote: “Always found @PizzaExpress a much more enjoyable dining experience.”
To which the rival pizza chain replied: “Cheers Jilly. Enjoy our Dough Balls and your team’s Premier League football next season!”

Leeds transfer blow as Edinson Cavani has ‘very good’ meeting with Benfica ahead of free summer move

BENFICA are reportedly closing in on a deal for Leeds target Edinson Cavani.
The newly-promoted Whites have spoken of ambitious moves for the Paris Saint-Germain striker and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, both of which are due to become free agents.

However Cavani’s half-brother and agent Walter Guglielmone is said to have been holding talks with Benfica.
Uruguayan journalist Sebas Giovanelli has described the first meeting as ending very positively with a second round of talks already underway.
Benfica club president Luis Filipe Vieira has reportedly been present at the negotiations with the player’s representative, before the addition of various directors.
The Portuguese capital club missed out on this year’s Primeira Liga trophy to Porto having won five of the previous six titles.

And offering Cavani Champions League football may help Benfica beat Leeds to the 33-year-old.
Since earning promotion earlier in the month, the Yorkshire side are thought to have held their own talks with Guglielmone.

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani admits a deal for Ibrahimovic will be “difficult” but is optimistic that Cavani can be tempted.
The Italian told Sky Sports Italia earlier in the week: “In addition to his quality, Cavani could contribute with his physicality and adapt here, but I’ve never talked about him with the coach.

“Having said that, we’ve certainly thought about him and we’ll see, given he’s still available on a free transfer.”
Cavani has scored 200 goals for PSG in seven seasons at the club, a spell which is expected to come to an end after next month’s Champions League campaign.

Leeds hopeful over incredible Edinson Cavani transfer with Premier League new-boys also set to target Zlatan Ibrahimovic More

Leeds No2 Carlos Corberan quits Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion heroes to take over Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield

HUDDERSFIELD have named Leeds assistant Carlos Corberan as their new manager, following the sacking of Danny Cowley.
The Terriers came through a relegation dogfight in their first year back in the Championship after two years in the Premier League, finishing 18th.

And, on Thursday, 37-year-old Corberan was named as Cowley’s successor.
A short playing career led to the Spanish goalkeeper taking up coaching roles with LaLiga sides Valencia and Villarreal.
He then spent time in Asian clubs Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr before his first spells as head coach with Cypriot sides Doxa and Ermis.
Brought in to helm Leeds’ Under-23 side in 2017, Corberan impressed Marcelo Bielsa and was moved into the senior team’s assistant role ahead of their recent promotion to the top-flight.

But he will move back down to the Championship to take charge of Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield.
Former boss Cowley, 41, was sacked after refusing to hand over control on transfers to the club board.

Hailing from Valencia, Spain, he holds a UEFA Pro License and is known for his strength in coaching.
    Huddersfield Town Statement

And Huddersfield head of football operations Leigh Bromby praised Corberan’s coaching abilities and ability to improve players at Thursday’s announcement.
Bromby told the Huddersfield club website: “After two difficult seasons, we have put a lot of thought and work into what we want to be and how we operate moving forward.

“Obviously, we need to return to winning games, and to be successful we must have all areas of the Club aligned in the way we work. We want to return to the ‘No Limits’ mentality that served this Club so well back in 2017.

“We must start believing in ourselves and our people once again; players and staff alike. Carlos was our ideal candidate for our new Head Coach from the outset, as his idea of football is completely aligned with ours.
“He is very strong on the need for a team to have a strength of identity on the pitch; a way of playing that leaves players in no doubt on their roles when they step foot onto the grass. He believes in a high energy, high intensity, attacking style of play.
“He is a coach whose focus is on working to improve players. Like us, he has a real belief in young players too, and desire to work with them to help them thrive.”

Watch Clinton Morrison disappear off-screen as his mic falls off in the madness of Barnsley’s vital survival goal

AN EXHILARATING final night of the Championship season was embodied by Clinton Morrison as he fell off-screen while reporting on Barnsley’s huge late goal.
The Yorkshire side were one of many involved in some very late drama on Wednesday evening.

    3

Clinton Morrison had to dive off-screen to catch his mic

    3

The ex-Crystal Palace man reappeared to confirm Barnsley’s shock escape
Needing a win over promotion-chasing Brentford to have a chance of leapfrogging Wigan in the final survival spot, pending the Latics’ administration points deduction appeal, they duly delivered.
Clarke Oduor popped up at the far-post in the 91st minute to secure a mega three points for Barnsley.
And as they mobbed the goalscorer in an empty Griffin Park, former striker Morrison was following the game for Sky Sports’ Soccer Special.
Host Jeff Stelling gave a trademark cry at the sight of a major goal and threw to Morrison to explain.

Seeming to embody the mayhem, the 41-year-old’s microphone had fallen out and he dived out of shot before confirming the goal.
Morrison called out: “Yeah the thing’s come out Jeff!”
“It’s come out… but yeah Barnsley have scored, Jeff!”
Morrison’s hilarious gaffe was the latest of a Soccer Special’s unique way of reporting on the action with comical errors something of a tradition.

But while Barnsley fans were jumping around their living rooms, Brentford supporters were left ruing a missed opportunity.
A winner of their own would have guaranteed automatic promotion to the Premier League on a night when all three contenders, including Fulham and West Brom, dropped points.
By contrast, Barnsley and Luton both won to avoid the drop with Wigan relegated after a draw with Fulham, ahead of the confirmation of their punishment for administration.
Topping the madness off, Swansea reached the play-offs by beating Reading 4-1, achieving a six-goal swing to nudge past Nottingham Forest after they lost to Stoke by the same scoreline.

Birmingham City retire Jude Bellingham’s No22 shirt despite him playing just 44 games and quitting for Borussia Dortmund

BIRMINGHAM CITY have decided to retire Jude Bellingham’s No22 shirt – even though he only played 44 games for the club.
The midfielder became the world’s most expensive 17-year-old when Borussia Dortmund signed him for £30million on Monday.

Bellingham has progressed through the ranks at Birmingham after joining the club at seven years old.
He became the club’s youngest ever first-team player at the age of 16 years an 38 days last August.
In total, he scored two goals and four assists in 44 appearances for his boyhood club.
And Birmingham have decided to honour his achievements by retiring his shirt number.

A statement on the club website read: “In such a short space of time Jude has become an iconic figure at Blues, showing what can be achieved through talent, hard work and dedication.
“His caring, humble and engaging off-the-field demeanour has also made him such an impressive role model.
“The 22 shirt has become synonymous with Jude, his rise to the first team aged 16 ears and 38 days and these qualities.
“And as such the Club have decided it would be fitting to retire this number, to remember one of our own and inspire others.”

But not every fan agreed that Bellingham had done enough for the club to warrant his number being retired.
One Twitter user asked: “How utterly bonkers is this?”
Another added: “Absolutely stupid decision. The reason given to retire the number was the most stupid thing ever.”
And one joked: “Why don’t we just go all out and build a statue too?”

Bellingham will wear Dortmund’s No22 shirt next season after he snubbed interest from Manchester United to join them.
The 17-year-old played for Birmingham for the final time in Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat to Derby.
But the talented youngster was targeted by a sick abuse during his last appearance for the club.

Forever our #22.Good luck at @BVB, Jude! 👊

Chris Hughton ‘agrees to become Bristol City boss’ despite Robbie Fowler interest following Steven Gerrard rejection

CHRIS HUGHTON has reportedly agreed to become Bristol City’s new manager.
TalkSPORT claims the ex-Brighton and Newcastle gaffer Hughton met with City chiefs after emerging as their top choice for the role.

And Hughton agreed to take charge from the start of next season.
It’s been nearly three weeks since Lee Johnson was axed after missing out on the play-offs.
And a host of big names had been linked with the job.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was believed to be Bristol’s first choice.

But he snubbed the chance of managing in the Championship.
Chelsea legend and Aston Villa assistant John Terry was also rumoured to be in the running.

And SunSport exclusively revealed Mick McCarthy had put his name forward too.
But Hughton is the man to take charge at Bristol City this summer as they look to reach English football’s top flight.

It’s bad news for Robbie Fowler after he confirmed applying for both the City job AND the vacancy at Birmingham.
The ex-Brisbane Roar boss told Dubai Eye 103.8: “The CV has gone in but I’m not sure what route these clubs are going.

“Conversations can be had but, as of now, I’ve had nothing. It’s just a case of wait and see.
“I’m on the lookout for something else. All the good work I’ve done, I want to continue that so fingers crossed a position will open up pretty soon and I can get back out on this pitch.
“I believe I bring out the best in any team that I’m at.”

Nottingham Forest fan who was ‘not fretting’ about SIX goal swing mercilessly mocked after incredible play-off drama

A Nottingham Forest fan was mercilessly mocked after her pre-match prediction epically backfired.
Forest’s season imploded after a 4-1 defeat to Stoke City cost them a place in the Championship play-offs.

Are people really worried that we will blow a six-goal difference in one match? Even I’m not fretting. And that’s a good sign. Believe me. #nffc
    — Hannah Forest 🔴⚪️⚽️ (@hannahforest) July 22, 2020

Ahead of the final round of fixtures, Sabri Lamouchi’s side needed at least a draw against the Potters to guarantee a top-six finish.
Yet Forest extended their winless run to six games with a humiliating 4-1 humbling at home to Michael O’Neill’s men.
The club’s misery was compounded by Swansea’s win by the same scoreline against 10-man Reading which saw the Welsh club usurp them on goal difference.
And for one fan, the embarrassment was all too much after her pre-match prediction came back to haunt her.

Before kick-off, Forest fan Hannah tweeted: “Are people really worried that we will blow a six-goal difference in one match?
“Even I’m not fretting. And that’s a good sign. Believe me.”
She later added: “I give you permission to laugh at us if it does happen…”
Unfortunately for Hannah, it did happen as Swansea actually needed a five-goal swing for a play-off place only for six to ultimately fly in as per her prediction.

One fan replied: “Hannah , I would file this under “Tweets that precede unfortunate events”, enjoy the championship again!”
Another said: “The perils of twitter. I congratulate you for not deleting this tweet.”
A third added: “I’m pretty sure most derby fans are gonna have this framed on their wall Hannah.”
Forest’s dramatic capitulation followed a wretched end to their season, which saw the Reds collect just three points from a possible 18 since the start of July.
Speculation has already started over Lamouchi’s future in the dugout after he attempted to shed some light on his side’s collapse.
He told BBC Radio Nottingham: “It’s difficult to react. I’m here just because it’s obligatory to be here. I don’t have words. Disaster.

“It is a disaster to lose everything in the last game at home, of course.
“But to believe all the season about the play-offs and to lose and put away the play-offs like that, it’s just our fault. I don’t have more words. I’m so sorry. I’m sorry to the fans, sorry for the last few games.
“One point was enough tonight, it was enough a few days ago and was enough last week and we were so close, but it was a disaster.”
