Bournemouth confirm Jason Tindall as Eddie Howe’s successor as former assistant takes over relegated Cherries

Tindall was Howe’s No 2 throughout both his reigns in the Bournemouth dugout and was part of the latter’s background staff at Burnley.
He made 199 appearances for the Cherries as a player between 1998 and 2011.
Tindall was a key part of the club’s coaching staff as they rose from League Two to the Premier League while his son, Levi, also plays for the academy.
He told afcbTV: “It’s an honour and a privilege to be the manager of such a great football club.

    Jason Tindall

“Given the success of the club over the last 12 years, with Eddie in charge and me by his side, I’m not going to come in and rip everything up and start again. I would be a fool to do that.
“But I’m my own person with my own ideas and I will be looking to implement them as soon as we get back on the training ground.
“I know the Championship is a very tough league but my aim is to get this club back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
“This is a challenge that I feel I’m ready for and one I’m looking forward to.”

Tindall was previously named as interim boss following Howe’s exit and this will be his first significant managerial role.
The 42-year-old will be without Nathan Ake after the centre-back sealed a £40million move to Manchester City on Thursday.
He also faces a fight to keep hold of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after rejecting a £12m bid from Sheffield United.

Newcastle looking to raid relegated Bournemouth in double transfer swoop for Josh King and David Brooks this summer

NEWCASTLE are reportedly plotting a double swoop for Josh King and David Brooks.
Steve Bruce is on a mission to bolster his attacking options during this summer’s transfer window.

Dreams of signing global superstars such as Kylian Mbappe are now dead following the collapse of their £300million Saudi takeover.
Now, according to The Telegraph, the two Bournemouth stars on Bruce’s wish list.
King, 28, has been tipped to leave the Cherries following their relegation from the top-flight.
The striker managed just six goals in 26 Premier League appearances this season.

But Bruce is keen to reunite with him after he signed him while in charge of Hull in 2012.
Newcastle will be up against the likes of Everton, Brighton and Burnley in the race for his signature.
Wales midfielder Brooks, who joined the Cherries in 2018, is another name on Newcastle’s radar.

He proved his potential with seven goals from midfield during his first season with Bournemouth.

But the 23-year-old was limited to just nine appearances during the 2019/20 campaign due to injuries.
The source claims Bruce will take a chance on him if Bournemouth are willing to sell him for the price they paid for him – which was £11.5million.

David Raya hilariously trolled for diving AFTER ball hit back of net in Fulham goal that cost Brentford £170m

FANS have taken to social media to mock poor Brentford goalkeeper David Raya after he was caught out by Joe Bryan’s free-kick from range in the Championship play-off final.
The Spaniard has been excellent for the Bees this season, but endured a moment to forget as he saw the ball fly past him at the near post.

Anticipating a cross into the box from Bryan, Raya positioned himself ready to come and claim a delivery.
But to his horror, the ball instead was sent towards goal, leading him to scramble back towards his near post in order to try and recover the situation.
But having been caught out, the Spaniard bizarrely dived beyond his post AFTER the ball had already gone in.
The incident happened in the 105th minute with the sides having been approaching half-time of extra-time still locked at 0-0.

Bryan went on to score again, and a late Henrik Dalsgaard consolation wasn’t enough as the Bees surrendered promotion to their local rivals.
And as if that wasn’t bad enough Raya, 24, has been trolled on social media following his moment to forget.
One wrote: “David Raya’s positioning was like your mate on clubs who usually plays up front but fancies himself between the sticks for a game.”
While another likened it to a different computer game: “That David Raya dive is the most Football Manager Match Engine thing I’ve ever seen happen in a real-life football match.”

A third joyful rival fan wrote: “Bottleford at it again, you love to see it”.
While another joked: “I suppose David Raya does sound like David de Gea!”
A West Ham compared Raya to the Hammers’ calamity keeper from earlier this season: “Roberto signed for Brentford?”

The Championship play-off final, dubbed the “richest game in football”, is said to be worth around £170million to the winner.
But while club chiefs will be hurt in the pocket, fans will be most devastated by having lost out on a golden opportunity to make their Premier League debut.
And having done so at the hands of nearby Fulham will rankle even more.

Chelsea transfer boost in Said Benrahma hunt with Lampard looking to grab Brentford star on cheap after failed promotion

CHELSEA have been handed a summer transfer boost, with Said Benrahma’s Brentford having failed to earn promotion to the Premier League.
The Algerian winger was a catalyst for the West Londoners’ superb season, scoring 17 goals and assisting a further ten for Thomas Frank’s side.

    2

But with the Bees having failed to wrap up automatic promotion during the regular season, followed by last night’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham under the Wembley arch, they have been left vulnerable to losing their star creator.
And according to football.london, Benrahma is still “destined” to play Premier League football next season, albeit not with Brentford.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a host of top-flight clubs – most notably Chelsea and Leeds United.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is set to target a winger this summer, having lost veterans Willian and Pedro on free transfers.

And asked about links to Stamford Bridge last month, Benrahma admitted that he was “flattered” by the talk.
He said: “I was really flattered, but, at the same time, I am so focused about getting out of the Championship with Brentford that I do not pay too much attention.
“Of course, it is giving me confidence, but, at the same time, everyone has their own destiny so I’m just focused on myself and I don’t want to compare myself with other players.

“I always watched the Premier League, especially Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

“I used to watch when Cristiano [Ronaldo], Thierry Henry and Hatem Ben Arfa at Newcastle were playing.
“Samir Nasri at Arsenal, too. Since I was a kid, I always wanted to play in England.”

Brentford 1 Fulham 2: Watch Bryan bamboozle Bees with 40-yard free-kick as his double seals £135m Premier League bonanza

JOE BRYAN scored the two goals of his life to send Fulham back into the Premier League big-time.
The left-back had only netted once in the league for Fulham before his Wembley heroics

The left-back was the hero with both goals for Fulham to secure their spot back in the Premier LeagueCredit: Reuters
But when the game moved into extra-time he came up with extra-special goals that any world-class striker, let alone a defender, would be proud of.
After 105-minutes of cagey football that did not live up to expectations, the Cottagers won a free-kick 35 yards out to the left of goal.
Bryan looked up towards the likes of star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic – who had only come on at the end of normal time – and everyone was waiting for him to swing the ball in.
Brentford keeper David Raya was anticipating the cross – but, as he ran up to take, he completely deceived him by firing straight towards goal.

The Spaniard desperately tried to recover by diving backwards – but it was too late. The ball nestled into the net and boss Scott Parker punched the air and celebrated as though he had scored the goal himself.
Then, with two minutes left, you would never have thought Bryan had played 118 minutes as he sprinted up field to play a quick one-two with Mitrovic before slotting past Raya with a classy finish.

He will probably never score twice again in a match – let alone net goals as valuable with Fulham set to pocket at least £135million for regaining their place in the Premier League.
Henrik Dalsgaard pulled one back with seconds left – but it was not going to dampen Fulham’s night.

The only thing that was going to do that was the champagne itself, which was spraying freely in all directions.
Parker – who has won a promotion in his first full season as a manager – was lifted and thrown up and down by the team.
“We’re going up, Fulham are going up,” they chanted.
Parker deserved this night. Never once did he panic or flinch when the going got tough in the Championship. But that is just typical of the man we have all known from his playing career.

It is rare for a team to bounce back straight away after relegation yet he has turned a team of losers into winners in just 12 months.
And in the showpiece he tactically got it spot on.
He sat Harrison Reed and Tom Cairney in front of the back four and completely suffocated the life out of Brentford.
Much has been made – and rightly so – of the Bees’ frontline of Said Benrahama, Bryan Mbeumo and Ollie Watkins.
But so good were the Cottagers, they made them look more like an old banger. They spluttered and stalled their way through the match.
You now have to wonder if Brentford will be able to hang on to their star assets, who between them scored 59 goals.

Benrahma has attracted interest from Chelsea while Watkins is said to be wanted by West Ham and Leeds.
Most neutrals would have loved to have seen Brentford go up – but, just like they did against Stoke and Barnsley in the final two games of the season, they could not come up with the performance to get them over the line.
They will move to their new Kew Bridge home next month playing Championship football – and no doubt will look to continue their fine wheeling and dealing in the transfer market.
Mitrovic only played a cameo role for Fulham – coming on at the death in normal time after not fully recovering from a hamstring injury to play a full part.
But, in Josh Onomah, they have found a fine player who is a real handful.
The striker– who has been outstanding for Fulham in recent weeks – started superbly and got the better of Ethan Pinnock early on before forcing David Raya into a good early save.

Then after picking up a pass from Neeskens Kebano, Onomah turned Pinnock and his angled shot forced another top save from Raya.
Frank complained the EFL did not have VAR in Championship play-offs after Rico Henry was wrongly sent-off at Swansea in their first-leg before it was rescinded.
Well, this would have only strengthened his view when Harrison Reed was lucky to escape with a yellow card after a thunderous late tackle on Norgaard.
And, later, Cairney was fortunate to only be booked after an equally poor tackle on Benrahma.

    Both were studs-up challenges.
Kebano came so close to scoring from a free-kick 25 yards out that missed by inches while Bobby Decordova-Reed scuffed an effort when well placed.
Watkins finally had a look when he fired a powerful shot from just inside the box that was pushed over by Marek Rodak.
But then came the thrilling extra-time finale and Fulham are back.

Ban of alcohol at football ‘could be LIFTED after 35 years to entice fans back and stop huge pile-ups in concourse’

FOOTBALL fans may be allowed to watch the match from the stands with a beer in hand again after a 35-year ban, according to reports.
The Mail claim that football’s drinks ruling – that booze cannot be taken within sight of the pitch – may be ditched as part of the UK Government’s plans for sport post-coronavirus.

Critics of the current legislation point to other sports, such as cricket, where attendees can drink and watch the action from their seatsCredit: Reuters
The Conservatives hope fans will start returning to stadiums by the end of October, and they are considering whether to let supporters take alcoholic drinks to their seats.
The Premier League is pulling together medical experts, Government figures and the Sports Grounds Safety Authority to discuss its options.
Boris Johnson has been keen to allow people back into pubs and bars as part of his earliest measures to re-open the UK economy.
And any change must be made via a vote in the House of Commons, as the ban in England and Wales was implemented by law in the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol, etc) Act 1985.

Scotland’s own booze ban was introduced in 1980.
Hooliganism in grounds was a bigger problem in English football in the Eighties – now it is far less prevalent inside stadiums.

To have a blanket ban on alcohol in view of the playing area remaining is, in our view, disproportionate to today’s level of risk.
    Shaun Harvey, 2018

It is hoped that it would lead to more sensible drinking if it can be spaced out throughout the match and fans aren’t just loading up before the match and at half-time.
Football’s senior figures have also pointed out the difference in attitudes to other live sporting events.

In 2018, then-EFL chairman Shaun Harvey led calls for the ban to be ended.
Harvey said: “There is no doubt football has changed dramatically in the 30-plus years since the introduction of the act and to have a blanket ban on alcohol in view of the playing area remaining in 2018 is, in our view, disproportionate to today’s level of risk.
“Alongside the potential increase in disorder considerations, one of the key issues that requires further examination is the fact football is being treated inconsistently with other sports – some that occur in the same venue.

“The EFL would always request football is treated consistently and given the same opportunities as other sports, so the many law-abiding citizens attending matches who wish to be able to drink while posing no threat to public order are able to do so.”
Earlier that year, Uefa ended their alcohol ban at Champions League and Europa League matches with Fifa also allowing booze at seats at the Russia World Cup.
A similar move here could benefit clubs in the lower divisions, who need to entice fans back into the ground.
Spreading out drinking time could also mean fewer queues and crushes, which means social distancing is more likely to be adhered to.
That said, some potential match-going supporters may be put off by the prospect of more boozing in the stands and the possible safety implications.
